Girls basketball teams hit the court Monday after learning WIAA fate

The area's girls basketball teams learned their WIAA placement on Sunday, but they have more immediate business to tend to on Monday night.

The WIAA released their brackets on Sunday afternoon with Kewaunee the top seeded local team with a #2 seed in Division 4. Sevastopol and Luxemburg each earned three-seeds and Algoma a #6 seed. The matchups shake out like this:

DIVISION 2

#3 Luxemburg vs. #6 Pulaski on 2/28

DIVISION 3

#11 Sturgeon Bay at #6 Tomahawk on 2/25

DIVISION 4

#12 Southern Door at #5 Brillion on 2/25

#6 Algoma vs. #11 Mishicot on 2/25

#2 Kewaunee vs. #7 Cedar Grove-Belgium OR #10 Roncalli on 2/28

DIVISION 5

#12 Gibraltar at #5 Niagara on 2/25

#3 Sevastopol vs. #14 Wausaukee on 2/25

There is still a relatively full slate of action on Monday to worry about before next week's tournament begins. They include Sturgeon Bay hosting Kewaunee (7 p.m.), Southern Door welcoming NEW Lutheran (7 p.m.), Sevastopol playing at home against Oconto (6:30 p.m.), and Gibraltar traveling to Algoma (6 p.m.).
