An old UWGB rivalry could be reignited as soon as the 2026-2027 season.

First reported by Action Network's Brett McMurphy and collaborated by other sources, Northern Illinois will begin play in the Horizon League in most sports beginning with the 2026-2027 season. The Huskies previously announced they would move from the Mid-American Conference to the Mountain West Conference for football. They still need a home for their gymnastics and wrestling programs because they are not offered in the Horizon League.

Green Bay and Northern Illinois were longtime rivals in the Midwest Conference before the Huskies bolted for the MAC. The men have a record of 24-6 against the Huskies while the women have a tighter record at 13-13.
