Baseball/softball round-up: Luxemburg-Casco, Algoma play games in Green Bay

Playing on turf fields may help at least two teams get some of their first swings of the season on Saturday.

 

Luxemburg-Casco baseball plays Freedom at 9 a.m. during a daylong showcase of NEC Baseball at Capital Credit Union Park.

 

Gibraltar baseball continues its tournament at Adams-Friendship High School beginning at 10 a.m., while the softball team, weather permitting, picks up action again in Mauston at 2 p.m.

 

Sevastopol baseball travels to Roncalli for an 11 a.m. first pitch, while the softball team visits Assumption for a noon doubleheader, weather permitting.

 

Algoma baseball takes advantage of the turf field at Green Bay Southwest for a 1 p.m. first pitch against Green Bay Preble. 

 

THURSDAY'S ACTION

The Luxemburg-Casco softball team won its second game in as many days on Friday, demolishing New Holstein 11-1 in five innings.

 

The Columbus Catholic Dons batted around and then some in the bottom of the third to beat Gibraltar/Washington Island in the Vikings' season opener 16-6.

 

The Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings baseball team opened its season with a win Friday morning, beating Marathon 6-3 at Adams-Friendship High School.

 

The Algoma softball tied the game late but was walked off by the Chilton Tigers in a 3-2 defeat.
