Softball round-up: Zephyrs speed past Vikings on 105.1 The GOAT

The area is down two teams in the WIAA Softball Tournament after Gibraltar/Washington Island and Sturgeon Bay lost their openers on Thursday.

Two big innings by St. Mary Catholic led to the season-ending loss for Gibraltar/Washington Island softball on Thursday, losing the game 12-2 in five innings.

Sturgeon Bay also saw their season end in five innings on Thursday, losing their matchup to Kiel 14-0.

Several other teams took advantage of the break between the regular season and the tournament to get some extra at-bats in.

The Kewaunee softball team scored at least two runs in each of the final four innings played en route to a six-inning, 11-1 win over Crivitz on Thursday.

Despite outhitting their opponents 7-3, the Algoma softball team was walked off by Peshtigo 3-2 Thursday night.

The Sevastopol softball team clubbed three homers, but it was not enough to beat Southern Door as they lost 10-6 on Thursday.
