The area's golfers are hanging around the top of the leaderboard as the WIAA State Golf Championships got underway at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison on Monday.

In Division 2, Luxemburg-Casco's Josh Parins is tied for 12th place with a score of 80 (+8), six strokes behind two golfers from Cambridge High School. Three strokes behind him and tied for 23rd place is Sturgeon Bay's Tre Wienke (83, +11). 

In Division 3, Gibraltar's Finn Salm matched Wienke's effort, which placed him tied for 16th overall and 11 strokes behind Troy Pudenz of Durand-Arkansaw, who shot a 72 (+0).

The state tournament's second day begins on Tuesday at 7 a.m.
