Kyle Lohse pitched well enough to win, but the offense did not give him much support. The Atlanta Braves edged the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 last night at Miller Park.
The Brewers bats were held in check by Braves rookie left hander Alex Wood. Wood allowed one run over seven innings of work for his first win of the season. After a lead-off home run by Carlos Gomez in the bottom of the first, Wood settled down and didn’t allow much after that.
That would be the only offense Milwaukee scored until the eighth inning when Aramis Ramirez singled home Gomez, but the game seemed out of reach.
Gomez recorded his first home run of the year and Ramirez and Jonathan Lucroy each recorded two hits in the loss.
Lohse pitched efficiently in his season debut, but giving up three runs on two home runs spoiled the great outing. Lohse gave up home runs in the fifth and sixth inning. Lohse finished with seven strong innings, giving up five hits and struck out eight.
The rubber match of the three game series is this afternoon, when the Brewers will send Matt Garza to the hill to face Braves right hander Aaron Harang. First Pitch is scheduled for 12:10PM.
