The Bullfrogs are happy to announce the arrival of two Redbirds, INF Dennis Colon and LHP Kendall Lindley, out of Illinois State to their 2014 squad. The pair have donated their talents to an Illinois State team (17-8, 4-2 MVC) who have outscored their opponents 36-10 in their first six conference games. Look for big things to come from this duo as the season revs on.
INF-Dennis Colon, 6’1”, 190 lbs (R/R), Junior
Colon’s been a quick study in his first season at the Division 1 level, starting all 24 games he’s played while putting up some healthy numbers. The transfer out of Kirkwood Community College (Iowa) is posting a .295/.387/.420 line to go along with five doubles, a team-leading three triples, and one stolen base. His offensive production for the Redbirds is no surprise after hitting .288/.356/.407, slamming three home runs, and bringing home three RBIs at Kirkwood. The year before (freshman season) he honed his skills at Southern University, appearing in 15 games. He’s got the genes to get the job done after his father played in the big leagues for nine years with the Astros and Mets. The Puerto Rico native is currently majoring in exercise science.
LHP-Kendall Lindley, 5’8”, 165 lbs (L/L), RS Sophomore
A former transfer out of Grossmont Community College, near San Diego, California, Lindley looks to make an impact on the Division 1 level. It will take time as he continues to pile on the experience, one mound trip at a time. Thus far he has compiled 3.1 innings pitched over three appearances and has surrendered five hits and two earned runs. He’ll build on his freshman season at Grossmont where he posted a 7-2 record, 2.62 ERA, and 70-19 K/BB ratio over 79.1 innings as a starter. The team captain earned second-team All-Conference honors and collected a conference pitcher of the week award as well. Lindley redshirted his first season at San Diego State University after receiving All-Conference accolades three times in high school. As a youth, he played baseball in Japan as part of the San Diego – Yokohama Youth Baseball Exchange in 2007. The San Diego native and former starter on his high school’s ultimate frisbee club is currently an English major.
