The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and South Bend Cubs have records at the opposite ends of the Midwest League standings.  That doesn’t matter when the teams have met this season.  Both teams have won ten games out of the twenty that have been played in the season series after South Bend beat the Rattlers 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field

The starting pitchers traded zeroes for five innings.  South Bend starter Drew Gray allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out four.  Wisconsin starter Patricio Aquino scattered three hits and struck out one without walking a batter.

Then, the teams traded runs in the sixth inning.

Wisconsin Reliever Stiven Cruz walked Brett Bateman with one out.  Pedro Ramirez followed with a single to put runners on the corners.  Jefferson Rojas got Bateman home with a sacrifice fly to left.

The Rattlers (62-35 overall, 20-11 second half) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth.  South Bend reliever Nick Hull retired the first two batters he faced.  Then, Luke Adams drove a homer to left to tie the game.  Adams has homered in two straight games and has eleven home runs on the season.

South Bend (39-59, 12-20) took the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning.  Ed Howard hit a solo homer with one out for the 2-1 lead.  A collision between second baseman Jheremy Vargas and right fielder Eduarqui Fernandez jarred the ball loose from Vargas’s glove for a two-out, double.  Jordan Nwogu followed with an RBI double to left and the Cubs were up by two runs.

Cooper Pratt and Adams tried to rally Wisconsin in the eighth inning.  Pratt singled with one out and Adams was hit by a pitch for the 31st time this season.  Hull struck out the next batter before leaving in favor of Mitchell Tyranski.

Tyranski walked Felix Valerio to load the bases.  But he would retire the next batter on a popup to end the threat.

Yerlin Rodriguez was called on to keep the game close in the top of the ninth.  He would walk the lead-off batter, hit Kalmer with a pitch, walk Nwogu, and walk David Avita to force in a run.  A wild pitch allowed another run to score and the Rattlers were down 5-1.  Rodriguez struck out two batters in the inning, but the second reached on a wild pitch.  Aaron Rund had to come into the game with the bases loaded and one out.  He would not allow any of the runners he inherited to score as he struck out the next two hitters.

Wisconsin went down in order in the bottom of the ninth as they dropped their second straight game to the Cubs.
 

Game three of the series is Thursday night.  K.C. Hunt (3-1, 2.18) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Cubs have named Will Sanders (1-5, 4.78) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers first game at Neuroscience Group Field since July 14 didn’t go as planned despite a season-high crowd of 5,678 fans in attendance.  The South Bend Cubs grabbed an early 10-1 lead and never let the home team, or the big crowd get back into the game on the way to a 14-9 victory over the Rattlers.

South Bend (38-59 overall, 11-20 second half) jumped to a 1-0 lead two batters into the game.  Brett Bateman tripled to start the top of the first.  Rafael Morel drove in Bateman with a single.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Alexander Cornielle got the next batter to ground into a 4-6-3 double play.  However, the third out was elusive.

Jefferson Rojas hit the first pitch of his at bat for a home run.  Ethan Hearn singled to left and an error allowed him to take third base.  Ed Howard singled to knock in Hearn.  Brian Kalmer capped the inning with a two-run home run for a 5-0 lead.

Luke Adams got the Timber Rattlers (62-34, 20-10) on the scoreboard with a two-out, solo home run to left in the bottom of the first inning.  The homer was the tenth of the season for Adams.

The Cubs added to their lead in the second.  There were two on with two outs when Cornielle got Rojas to send a high popup to shallow right.  However, the ball dropped in for a hit to score a run.  Hearn followed with a three-run homer to right for a 9-1 lead.

South Bend added another run in the top of the third.  Kalmer doubled, moved to third on a flyout, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Reivaj Garcia.

The Rattlers chipped away at their deficit with three runs in the bottom of the third.  Eduarqui Fernández started the inning with a single.  An error on a potential double play let Fernández take third base.  Cooper Pratt drove in Fernández with a sacrifice fly.  Adams started a two-out rally from there with a walk.  Matt Wood double to right on a 3-2 pitch to score Adams all the way from first.

South Bend starting pitcher Nick Dean left the game after the double by Wood with an apparent injury.  Eduardo Garcia welcomed reliever Nico Zeglin to the game with an RBI single to score Wood and the Rattlers were down 10-4.

The Cubs added two runs in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Jordan Nwogu and another sacrifice fly by Reivaj Garcia for a 12-4 lead.

Pratt, the #4 prospect of the Milwaukee Brewers who has making his Timber Rattlers debut on Tuesday night, gave the fans in attendance something to remember when he launched a home run to start the Wisconsin fifth inning for his first Midwest League hit.

Wisconsin pulled back to within six runs in the sixth inning when Jesús Chirinos doubled and Fernández singled him home.

The onslaught from the Cubs continued with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.  Pedro Ramirez had a sacrifice fly in the eighth and Bateman capped the South Bend scoring with a two-out RBI single in the ninth.  The Cubs scored fourteen runs on thirteen hits.

The Rattlers put three runs on the board in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Felix Valerio had a two-out, two-run double.  He scored later in the inning on a wild pitch to get the Rattlers to within five runs.  That would be as close as they would get.

Adams was 1-for-2, walked three times, and scored three runs for the Rattlers.  Garcia was 2-for-5 and extended his hitting streak to twelve games for Wisconsin.

Tuesday night was only the fourth time this season Wisconsin has allowed ten or more runs in a game.  It was the first time since a 10-1 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits at home on June 7.  South Bend has been the opponent three times the Rattlers have allowed double digits in runs in a game.  The Cubs scored eleven runs off Wisconsin pitching on April 13 and thirteen runs against the Rattlers on May 25 before scoring fourteen on Tuesday night.

Game two of the series is set for Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Patricio Aquino (3-3, 3.76) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  South Bend has named Drew Gray (0-4, 5.19) as their starter.  Game time is 12:10pm CDT.

The Milwaukee Brewers dropped the second game of their series with the Atlanta Braves 5-1 at American Family Field Tuesday night.

The Braves jumped on Brewer starter Joe Ross, who was making his first start in over two months, with four runs in the third inning and never looked back.

Adding one more run in the fifth inning, Atlanta cruised to the win behind the strong pitching of Bryce Elder, who allowed only one run on five hits while striking out seven in 6.1 innings.

The Brewers’ only run came in the seventh inning on an RBI single by pinch-hitter Gary Sanchez.

Ross (2-5) took the loss, allowing all five runs on eight hits in five innings. The Brewers did not add any additional pitchers to the staff before Tuesday’s trade deadline other than picking up starting pitcher Frankie Montas from the Cincinnati Reds on Monday.

Milwaukee and Atlanta will face off in the rubber game of the series this afternoon starting at 1:10 p.m., with Freddy Peralta (6-6) taking the mound for the Brewers and Chris Sale (13-3) starting for the Braves. 

On Tuesday, Green Bay Packer General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the signing of three new players to the roster and the cutting of three others.

Long snapper Peter Bowden, and cornerbacks Don Callis and LJ Davis were signed with cornerback Zyon Gilbert, fullback Henry Pearson and kicker James Turner being released.

Bowden (6-2, 239), a rookie out of Wisconsin who was signed earlier this year and released, will wear No. 49 for the Packers.

Callis (5-10, 174), a rookie who spent four years at East Central University and one season at Troy University (2023), had an earlier tryout with the Packers in May and will wear No. 30.

Davis (6-1, 203), a first-year player out of Northern Arizona University, started his college career at Southern Utah (2017-21) and finished at NAU (2022).  He signed originally with the Tennessee Titans before being cut earlier this year.  He will wear No. 40 for the Packers.

The Green Bay Rockers could not overcome an early 3-0 deficit in the first inning, falling to the Wausau Woodchucks 8-1 at Capital Credit Union Park Tuesday.

Rockers starter Henry Chabot (1-6) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in three innings, although he recorded six strikeouts and only one walk.

Kelly Cooper had the Rockers’ only RBI on a single in the second inning, scoring Sam Miller.

The Woodchucks outhit the Rockers 10 to 7, with Max Galvin and Bryce Hubbard going deep for Wausau.  Hubbard ended up with a game-high three RBIs, and starting pitcher Grant Siegel (2-1) picked up the win, going seven innings and allowing only one run on five hits. 

The Rockers now play the Lakeshore Chinooks in Mequon at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday.  

The Algoma Penguins enter the Shoreland League playoffs on a heater after they beat the Denmark Devilbears 12-8 in 10 innings on Monday night.

Cam Dupont got things going in the first inning, following an RBI double from Austen Dart with a two-run homer to make it 3-0. Jack Peterson hit the first of his two home runs in the second inning with a man on to make it 5-0, before a Dupont double and an error made it 7-0.

The Penguins' bats fell silent after that as the Devilbears chipped away at the advantage with one run in the second, one in the sixth, and four more in the seventh to make it 7-6. After the Penguins scratched across one run in the eighth, the Devilbears took advantage of some miscues with the bases loaded to tie the game.  In the 10th inning, the Penguins drove in four runs with a three-run homer by Peterson as the frame's biggest blow. Charlie Prokash pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 10th to secure the Penguins' eighth win. 

Peterson finished the game going 4-6 with five RBI, and Dupont went 2-5 with three RBI.

Denmark will play at Algoma to kickoff a playoff series on August 5th. in a best-of-three, with games two and three taking place at Denmark.

The Green Bay Packers will return to the practice field on Tuesday to begin their second week of training camp.

The Saturday and Sunday practices not only marked Jordan Love's return to the practice field after his hold-in netted him a new contract but also the first sessions of training camp, during which players had to wear pads. The two padded practices have been the longest of the training camp thus far, checking in at approximately two hours a piece. 

The team will have practices on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday before they take the proceedings inside Lambeau Field on Saturday for Family Night. in front of an expected sold-out crowd.

The Green Bay Blizzard will try to keep their magic rolling when they host the IFL Eastern Conference Finals on Friday night.

The Blizzard clinched the home playoff game with a 34-23 win over the Quad City Steamwheelers last Friday. Max Meylor threw for two touchdowns, while EJ Burgess rushed for two more in the win. Two fourth-quarter touchdowns helped keep the Steamwheelers at bay despite a late score by the visitors.

Tickets are on sale for the Blizzard's matchup against the Massachusetts Pirates, a team they split games with this season. The Blizzard and the Pirates each won their respective games on the road by less than a touchdown.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Calendar and Contact Ad Hoc Committee, which was approved by the Board of Control last December, conducted its sixth meeting Monday at the WIAA executive office.

After initial discussions, the ad hoc committee affirmed summer coaching contact days as the focal point of the upcoming survey and its first priority among the assigned topics to study. In addition, the committee split into small and large groups and spent much of the meeting discussing a draft of a survey that will be distributed to multiple, statewide stakeholder groups this fall. In addition, after reviewing a summary of survey data from the National Federation of State High School Associations, the committee reviewed a draft of the communications plan and approved revisions.

The established purpose of the Calendar and Contact Ad Hoc Committee is to represent the diverse voices of the membership in evaluating season lengths, game maximums, and coaching contact with the primary goal to promote a balanced, education-based athletic experience for student-athletes.  The committee is committed to studying the topics comprehensively to formulate and propose viable solutions to best serve the membership and their respective communities.

The recommendations of the Calendar and Contact Ad Hoc Committee may result in implementation with action by the Board of Control or advancement to the Annual Meeting for a membership vote with amendments to the membership’s Constitution, Bylaws or Rules of Eligibility.

The committee’s next in-person meeting will take place at the WIAA office Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024. 

The WIAA, as defined by its Constitution, is a voluntary, unincorporated, and nonprofit organization. The membership oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 513 senior high schools and 43 junior high/middle-level schools in its membership.

The picture for the fourth seed in the Door County League remains muddled after three games occurred Sunday afternoon.

The Maplewood Mets shut down the Egg Harbor Indians with great pitching on Sunday afternoon, winning 6-1 at Egg Harbor Park.

The Kolberg Braves did not need a full nine innings to dispatch the Baileys Harbor A's, outhitting them 11-2 in eight innings to win 16-0.

West Jacksonport earned a crucial victory in their march toward a possible playoff berth, defeating Washington Island 9-6.

A memorable inaugural campaign for the Green Bay Glory ended with two straight losses over the weekend, including a 4-2 defeat to table-leading AFC Roscoe on Sunday.

The Glory found themselves down 3-0 at halftime before finding some life early in the second half with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Ozzie and Junior Ramirez tallied their goals within three minutes of each other, but an own goal ruined the Glory's chances of overtaking their Chicago rivals. 

While AFC Roscoe took the Heartland Division with the win, both teams will go up a division next season. 

On Sunday, the Green Bay Rockers put up crooked numbers three times in their 11-8 win over the Wausau Woodchucks.

With a 1-0 lead after one, the Rockers scored three times playing small ball, with doubles by Seth Farni and Lane Allen serving as the catalyst. The Rockers put up a five-spot in the fourth inning with doubles by Allen and Mateo Matthews driving in runs.

The Woodchucks would make their move in the middle innings, scoring once in the fifth and six times in the sixth inning to make it 9-7 in the final innings. The Rockers added important insurance in the ninth, with Matthews and Allen again making run-producing contact in the frame. The Woodchucks would get one run back in their half of the ninth but would get no closer as Steve Marhefke nailed down the three-inning save.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers didn’t let an early start, or a late deficit bother them on Sunday afternoon at ABC Supply Stadium.  Wisconsin rallied from a 2-0 deficit with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings and three runs in the tenth to defeat the Beloit Sky Carp 5-3.

The game started thirty minutes earlier than scheduled due to a forecast that called for thunderstorms in the early afternoon.  It did rain lightly a few times during the game, but the storms never rolled through the area leading to a pleasant afternoon at the stadium.

It was not a pleasant start for the Timber Rattlers.  Lead-off batter Mark Coley tripled to start the bottom of the first inning.  Johnny Olmstead had a sacrifice fly to score Coley and the Sky Carp (45-48 overall, 15-15 second half) had a 1-0 lead.

Olmstead doubled the lead for Beloit with a solo homer in the third inning.  The home run was Olmstead’s eleventh of the season.

Those were the only two runs allowed by Wisconsin starter Will Rudy.  The right-hander allowed three hits, walked three, and struck out seven over five innings.  Rudy matched his professional single-game high for strikeouts with his performance on Sunday.

The Rattlers (62-33, 20-9) scuffled for the first seven innings against the bullpen relay of Alex Williams, Josh Ekness, and Nigel Belgrave.  Wisconsin managed two hits and had just one runner reach second over the first seven innings.  Cade Gibson had been the scheduled starting pitcher for the Sky Carp, but he was scratched earlier on Sunday.

Eduarqui Fernández changed the momentum with a lead-off single in the eighth off Evan Taylor.  Eduardo Garcia extended his hitting streak to eleven games with a one-out single and Luke Adams was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Matt Wood hit a grounder to first, but Beloit could only get the out at second for an RBI fielder’s choice.

The Rattlers rallied in the top of the ninth to tie the game.  Ram?n Rodríguez singled and Tayden Hall walked to start the inning against Evan Taylor.  A wild pitch with one out moved both runners into scoring position.  Fernández delivered a single to right to score Rodríguez with the tying run, but Hall was thrown out at the plate as he tried to score.

Bayden Root, who came on for the Rattlers in the eighth, worked a scoreless ninth inning to send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the tenth, Garcia gave Wisconsin the lead on the second pitch from Ignacio Feliz.  Garcia ripped a double down the line in left to score Luis Lara from second base for the Rattlers first lead of the day.  Later in the tenth, Felix Valerio singled to right to score two insurance runs for a 5-2 lead.

Root went back out for the bottom of the tenth and got the first out.  Then, Josh Zamora, who had been 0-for-22 with ten strikeouts in the series, singled to left to score Coley.  Root walked Brock Vradenburg to put the tying runs on base and bring the winning run to the plate.

The call went to the bullpen for Chase Costello to try to close out the game.  Costello had already pitched twice in the series.  On Tuesday night, he gave up three runs in the seventh inning for a blown save in a 3-2 loss.  On Saturday night, Costello worked a perfect fifth inning in a 3-2 win.

Costello had to face Jorge Caballero first.  Caballero had singled to start the rally against Costello in game one on Tuesday.  On Sunday, Costello got the strikeout for the second out of the inning.

That brought Carlos Santiago to the plate.  Santiago hit a game-tying homer off Costello on Tuesday.  On Sunday, Santiago grounded the first pitch he saw from Costello to second base for a routine 4-3 putout to end the game.

Wisconsin won the series 4-2 from the Sky Carp.  The Timber Rattlers finished the season series with their in-state rivals on Sunday with a 13-5 record in eighteen games.

The Timber Rattlers return home to start a series with the South Bend Cubs on Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

The Green Bay Glory close their inaugural season against the team they have been battling for the top spot Sunday afternoon.

The Glory have battled AFC Roscoe for the top spot in the lower Heartland Division for much of the season. AFC Roscoe held an edge on points until recently, but the Glory had a decided advantage in goal differential. 

The Green Bay Glory saw their winning streak come to end on Friday night as they lost to Rockford FC 3-2 in Loves Park, Ill. Ripon College's Trent Kazlauskas and Kevin Ramirez tallied the goals in the loss for the Glory.

The two sides play each other at the Banta Bowl in Appleton at 3 p.m.

The Green Bay Rockers out hit the Wausau Woodchucks 7-5, but their three errors loomed larger in a 6-1 loss.

A game-tying solo home run in third inning by Lane Allen was the only run the Rockers scored in the game. The Woodchucks scored five unanswered after that, including two in the fourth and sixth innings.

The two teams tangle again today at 1:05 p.m.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers held off a pair of late-game rallies from the Beloit Sky Carp to pick up a 3-2 victory Saturday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  The Sky Carp outhit Wisconsin 10-5 in the game, but Beloit was just 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Tayden Hall gave the Timber Rattlers (61-33, 19-9) the lead with a no-doubt home run to right-center with one out in the top of the third.  The solo shot was Hall’s second home run of the season.

Beloit (45-47, 15-14) tied the game in the bottom of the third.  Mark Coley reached on an infield single and went to third on a single by Johnny Olmstead.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Tate Kuehner got Josh Zamora to ground into a 5-4-3 double play for two outs with Coley scoring on the play to even the score.

The Sky Carp had runners at first and second with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Kuehner escaped with back-to-back strikeouts.  Kuehner struck out eight to match his single-game high as a professional.  He would also leave after four innings with 72 pitches under his belt.

Wisconsin went back in front in the top of the fifth inning with a two-out rally against Beloit starter Emmett Olson, who had retired fourteen of the first fifteen batters he faced.  Jesús Chirinos drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch to extend the inning.  Hall followed with a single to left.  Then, Eduarqui Fernández doubled to left to score both runners for a 3-1 lead.  Fernández was 1-for-11 in the series prior two his two-run double.

Chase Costello relieved Kuehner and tossed a perfect fifth inning before turning the game over to Brian Fitzpatrick.

The left-handed Fitzpatrick, who was pitching for the first time since July 10, worked a scoreless sixth and a scoreless seventh.  In the eighth, he would give up a double and a walk to the first two batters.  Fitzpatrick left the game after getting the first out of the inning on a flyball to right.

Aaron Rund took over on the mound and shattered Jorge Caballero’s bat into several pieces.  However, Caballero reached on an infield single to load the bases.  Rund got the next batter, Torin Montgomery, to hit a tailor-made double play ball to Eduardo Garcia at short.  However, a bobble by Garcia led to only getting the force out at second base as Montgomery beat the throw to first for a run-scoring fielder’s choice to cut Wisconsin’s lead to one and put the tying run at third base.

Rund responded by striking out Jake DeLeo to end the eighth.

In the bottom of the ninth, Rund retired the first two batters.  Coley, who had a walkoff, solo homer to beat Wisconsin on Friday night, gave the 3,150 in attendance hope with a triple to the gap in left-center.  Rund took that hope away as he got Olmstead to send a routine grounder to short.  Garcia handled this one easily and threw on target to first to get Olmstead and end the game.

Wisconsin holds a 3-2 edge in this series and are 12-5 against the Sky Carp on the season heading into the final meeting of the regular season between the teams on Sunday at ABC Supply Stadium

First pitch on Sunday is set for 1:05pm CDT with Will Rudy (3-6, 4.91) set as the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Cade Gibson (2-2, 2.77) has been named as the starter for Beloit.

I feel many kayakers and kayak anglers typically look for some sort of formal boat launch or kayak launch. Don’t overlook all the roads in Door County that dead end at the water.  If you can park your vehicle off the road, you can launch your kayak at these dead ends. Beaches can also be good places to launch, like Otumba Park, Sunset Park, Murphy Park, Pilgrim Park and a few others.  The beaches can get busy on the weekends, so these may be a better choice during the week.

The Indians (5-6) are in fourth place, tied with Washington Island for the final playoff spot with three games remaining in the regular season.

The Mets (8-3) are firmly in third place. They are currently two games behind the leader, the Sister Bay Bays (10-1), and one game behind the second-place Kolberg Braves (9-2).

Egg Harbor lost to Sister Bay 13-1 last week, while Maplewood held off the Institute Cubs 6-3.

The pregame from Egg Harbor Park will start at 1:15 p.m. with first pitch at 1:30 p.m.  Paul Schmitt and Henry Annen will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT, 1051TheGOAT.com, and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com. 

The Sister Bay Bays scored eight runs in the first three innings en route to a 12-2, eight-inning win over the Institute Cubs Friday night.

The Bays jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Matt Hecht knocked in two runs on a single. The Cubs would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Robbie Pollman grounded into a double play, forcing the Bays to trade two outs for a run scored by Brent Haberli. Haberli would struggle in the next inning, allowing two hits and three walks in a three-run second inning that saw Alex Laughlin, Tom Sawyer, and Spencer Krause drive in runs.

Josh Pflieger could not tighten things up when he entered the game with three hits, compounded by three errors, which led to three more runs to score in the third inning to make it 8-2. Pfleiger would calm down after that, allowing no hits or runs in his final two innings of relief.

The Cubs would take a small bite out of the Bays' lead in the sixth inning when a Kyle Ploor double drove in Jaeger Brusky to make it 8-2. The Bays would bite back in the seventh, registering another three runs to put the Cubs on the brink before bringing it to a mercy rule in the eighth inning when Sawyer's second RBI flyout drove in Rylan Caldecott. 

The Cubs would threaten to force a ninth inning by loading the bags against Matt Hecht in the seventh and the eighth against Brandon Krause. Both pitchers were able to wiggle off the hook to force an early exit and help keep the Bays in first place.

Sawyer led the way with three RBI on a 2-4 night, while Laughlin and Krause each posted multi-hit games and drove in runs. For the Cubs, Frankie Ash posted three hits, while Pollman and Brusky each had two hits in the loss.

The GOAT's next broadcast will be Sunday when Maplewood travels to Egg Harbor for a 1:30 p.m. first pitch. The other Sunday games include Baileys Harbor visiting Kolberg and Washington Island hosting West Jacksonport.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love could suit for a training camp practice for the first time this season after signing a record-setting extension on Friday.

Multiple NFL insiders are reporting that Love has signed a four-year, $220 million extension, making him the highest-paid quarterback in the league after just one full season. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the deal also includes a record $75 million signing bonus plus $155 million in new full guarantees.

Love has been attending practices this week, but has not participated while his contract situation remained in flux.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers fought back to tie the Beloit Sky Carp every time they fell behind on Friday Night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Wisconsin rallied from deficits of 2-0, 3-2, and 4-3 to even the score.  However, there was no fighting back after Mark Coley cracked a lead-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to give Beloit a 5-4 victory.

The Sky Carp (45-46 overall, 15-13 second half) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Patricio Aquino retired the first two batters of the inning but walked Jorge Caballero at the end of a ten-pitch at bat.  Carlos Santiago followed with a double to put runners on second and third.  Aquino got ahead of Jake DeLeo 1-2 before DeLeo laced a triple to right to score both runners for a 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin (60-33, 18-9) responded in the top of the fifth.  Felix Valerio and Tayden Hall starting the inning with singles to put runners at the corners.  Ram?n Rodríguez drove in Valerio and moved Hall to second with a grounder to third.  Jheremy Vargas singled to put runners on the corners with one out.  There were two outs with runners still at the corners when Vargas broke for second.  He drew a throw and Hall broke for the plate.  Shortstop Johnny Olmstead cut off the throw to second in front of the bag and fired home wildly.  Hall scored the tying run.

Reliever Tyler Wehrle retired the first two Beloit batters he faced in the fifth inning.  Then, he hit Olmstead and walked the next two batters to load the bases.  An error by Eduardo Garcia on a grounder to short allowed a run to score and the Sky Carp to retake the lead.

Garcia singled and stole second in the top of the fifth.  He moved to third on a flyball to center with the tying run.  Jesús Chirinos drove in Garcia with a grounder to even the score 3-3.

The Rattlers had a good chance to take the lead in the seventh inning.  Rodríguez walked and Vargas singled with one out against Yeuris Jimenez.  A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position.  Jimenez escaped the jam with consecutive strikeouts to keep the game tied.

Beloit went back in front in the eighth inning and walks played a part again.  Adian Maldonado walked the first two batters.  DeLeo sent a fly ball to center to move the lead run to third.  Cam Barstad got the go-ahead run home with a sacrifice fly to left for the 4-3 lead.

Wisconsin did not go quietly.  Valerio started the ninth inning with a single.  Xavier Meachem hit Hall to put two runners on with no outs.  Rodríguez blooped a single to right the caromed off DeLeo to foul territory.  Valerio scored the tying run, but Hall was out at third with Rodríguez taking second base.  Meachem got the second out before issuing a walk.  He would get the final out to keep the game tied as it went to the bottom of the ninth inning.

Yerlin Rodriguez, who struck out the side in order on Wednesday night, took the mound for the bottom of the ninth to try and send the teams to extra innings for the second night in a row.  Coley spoiled that plan with a lead-off homer on a 3-2 pitch to send the Sky Carp to the 5-4 victory.

Friday night was just the second walkoff loss of the season for the Timber Rattlers.  The only other walkoff loss they have suffered in 2024 was when Josh Mears hit a two-run homer for the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Parkview Field on June 21.

The Timber Rattlers had ten hits but were just 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.  The Sky Carp had five hits but were able to take advantage of seven walks and a hit batsman.  Both teams have two wins in the series.
 

Game five of the series is Saturday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Tate Kuehner (5-2, 2.78) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Beloit has named Emmett Olson (4-3, 3.19) as their starter.  Game time is 6:35pm.

The Green Bay Glory saw their winning streak come to end on Friday night as they lost to Rockford FC 3-2 in Loves Park, Ill. Ripon College's Trent Kazlauskas and Kevin Ramirez tallied the goals in the loss for the Glory.

The Glory are back in action on Sunday at the Banta Bowl when they host AFC Roscoe.

The two ends of the Door County League standings meet Friday night when Sister Bay travels south to play the Institute Cubs.

Thanks to Washington Island's win over Kolberg, the Bays took sole possession of first place in the DCL following its 13-1 dismantling of Egg Harbor last weekend. An 8-6 loss to the Braves to kick off July remains the Bays' lone blemish of the season, winning its last three games.

The Cubs remain winless on the season after dropping Sunday's game to Maplewood 6-3. They had been down 6-1 heading into the final innings before registering single runs in the eighth and ninth to make the game closer.

In their previous matchup, the Bays scored in each of the first three innings en route to an 8-1 win over the Cubs. Sam Lindenberg had three hits in four at-bats, while Alex Laughlin went 2-4 with three RBI in the win. Lindenberg picked up the win by allowing just one run on one hit across seven innings of work. Jaeger Brusky's RBI fielder's choice was the only run for the Cubs on the day, with Frankie Ash, Kyle Ploor, and Josh Pflieger picking up the lone hits.

The Green Bay Blizzard start their playoff march on Friday night when they host the Quad Cities Steamwheelers at the Resch Center.

The Blizzard overcame a slow start to score at least two touchdowns in each of the final three quarters to beat the Sioux Falls Storm 51-30. Max Meylor scored seven total touchdowns, including five through the air as he went 23-28 for 265 yards. While the Storm bottled up the Blizzard's rushing game, EJ Burgess and Jalyn Cagle broke out with two receiving touchdowns a piece.

The Blizzard went 2-0 against the Steamwheelers during the season, squeaking past them on the road before commanding 64-36 win at home on May 31st.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

Luis Lara drove in two runs with a double in the top of the tenth inning to give the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers a 3-1 lead against the Beloit Sky Carp on Thursday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  That hit, Lara’s third of the game, was enough to push Wisconsin to a 3-2 victory over the Sky Carp.

Beloit (44-46 overall, 14-13 second half) took the lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning.  Jake DeLeo singled and stole second with one out.  Cam Barstad followed with an RBI single to put the Sky Carp in front.
 

Wisconsin (60-32, 18-8) tied the game in the fourth inning.  Jadher Areinamo reached on a fielder’s choice with one out and stole second.  Luke Adams smacked a single up the middle for an RBI single to even the score.

Both starting pitchers – Thomas White for Beloit and K.C. Hunt – allowed one run over five innings.  Hunt scattered six hits and struck out three.  White struck out four and walked one.  Neither starter was involved in the decision.

The Timber Rattlers had good opportunities to take the lead as they had runners at first and second with one out in the fifth and sixth innings and runners at the corners with one out in the eighth.  However, the Rattlers could not push across the go-ahead run in regulation.

The Sky Carp struggled to get anything going after they had two singles with one out against Hunt in the fourth inning.  Hunt retired the final five batters he faced.  Reliever Stiven Cruz allowed one hit but faced the minimum over his three scoreless innings thanks to a double play.  Then, Bayden Root tossed a perfect ninth to send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the tenth, Jesús Chirinos started the inning at second as the placed runner and Jheremy Vargas drew a walk with one out.  Lara worked the count to 3-2 against Evan Taylor before lacing the payoff pitch to the gap in right-center to score both runners for a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the tenth, Root allowed the placed runner to score on a single Barstad on the second pitch of the inning.  Jorge Caballero singled off Root’s leg with one out in the tenth to put the tying and winning runs on base for the Sky Carp.  Root shut down the storybook finish with a strikeout and a weak liner to Eduardo Garcia at short to close out the game.

Wisconsin is 13-4 in seventeen games in July.  The pitchers allowed one earned run over ten innings on Thursday night to lower their ERA for the month to 2.09.  Wisconsin has also reached 28 games over .500 for the first time since they were 77-49 on August 24, 2001.

Game four of the series is Friday night.  Patricio Aquino (3-3, 3.82) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Jacob Miller (5-4, 4.04) is set to go for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 6:35pm at ABC Supply Stadium. 

The Green Bay Glory will play their final road fixture of the season on Friday night when they travel south of the border to play Rockford FC.

The Glory secured promotion and moved up to first place in the division with their latest effort against Berber City. Tim Geocaris scored both goals in the 2-0 win over the Chicago-based side, burying passes from Tom Geocaris and Edgar Heredia.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Wedgbury Stadium. The Glory will play again on Sunday at the Banta Bowl in Appleton.

The Green Bay Rockers began a critical four-game set against the Wausau Woodchucks with a thud, losing the opening matchup in Wausau 9-4.

The Rockers were down 3-0 in the sixth inning when Jake Bold tied the game up on a three-run homer as they collected five of their 11 hits in the frame. That happiness would be short-lived as they gave the lead back to Wausau in the bottom half of the inning when Max Galvin socked a two-run homer. The Rockers would get one of those runs back in the eighth thanks to Bold's second home run of the game, but the Woodchucks would put up a four spot in their half of the inning to thwart any hopes of a Rockers comeback..

Mikel Howell took the loss for the Rockers, allowing three runs on four hits in less than two innings of work. 

A wild pitch in the 10th inning helped the Algoma Penguins secure the 8-7 extra-inning win over the Ashwaubenon Lookouts Thursday night.

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, Austen Dart's double brought in the Guins' first run of the game, but four straight hits helped the Lookouts get the run back and then some as they expanded the lead to 4-1. The Guins would rally in the fifth inning, starting the frame with three straight singles and ending it with six runs on the scoreboard.

The Lookouts scored once in the fifth and two more times in the eighth to set up the 10th-inning heroics. Spencer Krause went 4-5 with two RBI, matching Dart's total. Charlie Prokash earned the win on the mound with two innings of one-hit, shutout ball. 

With the win, the Penguins improved to 7-4 on the season.

It is all downhill now for 2024 Run the Door Series participants.

Races thin out from here with Algoma Shanty Days Run in August, the Hey Hey 5K in Baileys Harbor in September, the Run Wild Quarter Marathon and 5K in Sturgeon Bay and Fall 50 in October, Pen Park Trail Fest 14K and 30K inside Peninsula State Park and One Barrel 2.62 (Miles) Run in Egg Harbor in November, and the Northern Door YMCA Ugly Sweater 5K Fun Run/Walk in Fish Creek in December.

The Algoma Penguins got triples from Jack Peterson and Will Jandrin, along with a strong pitching performance from Aaron Brey, as they shut down and blew out the Branch Blaze 13-0 Wednesday night.

After a scoreless first inning, the Guins put up five runs in the second inning with Peterson's two-run single serving as the inning's biggest blow.  The Guins would go on to score in three of the next four innings, including another five-run frame in the sixth. In that inning, Jandrin cleared the bases with a triple, leading the Guins to end the game after only seven innings. 

The Guins posted seven hits, though Drew Price did it with his body as he was hit by three pitches. Both teams were victimized by four errors. The Blaze's Justin Bonin and Brent Robinson each had two hits, but they were stifled by Brey and two relievers, who struck out seven and allowed seven hits during the game.

Algoma's Crescent Beach will be the site of two separate volleyball tournaments next month as a part of the community's Shanty Days Celebration.

On August 10th, the 1th Annual Shanty Days "Battle on the Beach" Volleyball Tournament will take place with up to 16 teams participating. The Pool Play Round-Robin style tournament sets up the bracket-style playoff tournament, guranteeing each team at least seven matches. On August 11th, the kids will take over the courts for a juniors' version of the Battle on the Beach. The Green Bay Rockers will take the field again for their final three weeks of the season after taking a few days off for the All-Star festivities.

Henry Chabot was the Rockers' lone representative in Tuesday's All-Star Game in Mankato. He was perfect in his lone inning of work, allowing no runs or hits while striking out one.

Boasting a 10-8 record in the second half, they play the next two games in Wausau before hosting the Woodchucks for another two games in Ashwaubenon.

 Eduarqui Fernández was the pacesetter for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wednesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Fernández stole five of Wisconsin’s ten bases and scored three runs as he walked four times in the Rattlers 7-3 win over the Beloit Sky Carp.  Wisconsin had four hits but took advantage of ten walks by Beloit pitchers and a strong start from Yujanyer Herrera, who moved his record to 6-1 on the season with the win on Wednesday.

The Sky Carp (44-45 overall, 14-12 second half) took the lead in the first inning.  Mark Coley reached on an infield single, stole second and went to third on an infield grounder.  Brock Vradenburg drove in Coley with a single for the 1-0 advantage.

Wisconsin (59-32, 17-8) evened the score in the top of the third inning thanks to four walks by Beloit starting pitcher Noble Meyer.  Fernández and Jheremy Vargas walked to start the inning.  Luke Adams drew a walk with two outs to load the bases.  Then, Matt Wood walked to drive in Fernández with the tying run.

Adams started a rally for the Rattlers in the fifth inning against Caleb Wurster.  The Sky Carp reliever retired the first two batters he faced before hitting Adams with a pitch.  Wurster threw wildly to first to allow Adams to take third.  Wood drew another walk to put runners on the corners, and Eduardo Garcia cashed in the chance with a two-out single to score Adams for the 2-1 lead.
 

The Rattlers added four runs in the top of the sixth inning for some breathing room.  Tayden Hall started the inning with a triple.  Fernández walked for the third time in the game and was running on a pitch to Vargas, who grounded out to short.  Instead of turning two, the Sky Carp had to get the out at first and Hall scored for a 3-1 lead.

Luis Lara was next, and he sent a grounder behind second base.  Carlos Santiago tried to get Fernández at third but threw wildly.  Fernández scored and Lara took second on the play for a 4-1 lead and that was all for Wurster.

Alex Williams entered the game and got the first out on a grounder that got Lara to third base before hitting Adams to extend the inning.  Adams stole second to get into scoring position and Wood smacked a 3-0 pitch from Williams for a two-run single and a 6-1 lead.

Herrera allowed one run on three hits over five innings with Mark Manfredi entering the game in the sixth.  Manfredi retired the first five batters he faced.  Then, Torin Montgomery hit a solo homer with two outs in the seventh.  Brett Roberts singled and took second on an error with Carlos Santiago collecting an RBI with a double to chase Manfredi from the game.

Aaron Rund took over and got the final out after a walk to the first batter he faced to send the game to the eighth.

Fernández started the eighth with his fourth walk of the game, stole second, and stole third.  Lara drove in Fernández with a sacrifice fly for the insurance run.

Rund worked around the first Sky Carp of the eighth reaching on an error with a double play, Wisconsin’s third twin killing of the night, and a groundout.

Yerlin Rodriguez struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to close out the contest and even the series at one win for each team through the first two games.

Five stolen bases by Fernández were the most by a Rattler since David Hamilton had six in a game against the Peoria Chiefs on June 2, 2021.  Vargas had three steals and Adams had two to account for the ten stolen bases for Wisconsin.

The previous known high for stolen bases in a game by the Timber Rattlers is from a game at West Michigan on May 30, 2001 when Wisconsin had nine steals.

Game three of the series is at Thursday night.  K.C. Hunt (3-1, 2.45) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Beloit will go with Thomas White (1-2, 3.00) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 6:35pm at ABC Supply Stadium. 

Congratulations goes out to Sturgeon Bay’s Lorrie Combs-Schmidt for her first place catch — a 33.97-pound Chinook — in the 2024 Kewaunee/Door County Salmon Tournament. Lorrie’s trophy was the 10th heaviest in the K/D’s 42-season history.
With record participation of 3,891 men, women and youth anglers, this year's payout surpassed $100,000 in cash and prizes! In addition to the bonus prizes and K/D cash listed here, there were 50 daily port prize packages and eight early-bird cash awards.
Fourteen Chinooks larger than 30 pounds were brought in, and the top 100 were all 25.85 pounds and up. A total of 164 25-pound-plus salmon were weighed, along with 300+ between 20 and 25 pounds.

As we close the books on the 2024 contest in the coming weeks, the K/D committee would like to give a special shout-out to one of its founders, outgoing president Jerry MacMillin. This will be Jerry’s last year writing checks, as he’s retiring from the tournament after 42 years. Anglers who won cash or prizes of $600 or more will need to return a 1099 form (will be mailed) before he can send a check.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had a 2-0 lead late in the game against the Beloit Sky Carp on Tuesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  However, some missed opportunities early in the game for Wisconsin allowed a hot Beloit team to rally with the bottom third of their order to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Rattlers 3-2 in game one of the six-game series between the in-state rivals.

Eduardo Garcia tripled to start the Wisconsin second inning.  Felix Valerio gave the Timber Rattlers the lead with an RBI grounder to short.

Beloit (44-44 overall, 14-11 second half) loaded the bases with three straight one-out singles in the bottom of the third inning.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Alexander Cornielle got out of the frame with a strikeout and a popup.

Wisconsin (58-32, 16-8) missed on good scoring chances in the fourth and fifth innings.  In the fourth, Luke Adams walked, and Matt Wood singled to start the inning, but they were left stranded.  In the fifth, Jesús Chirinos doubled to start the frame with Jadher Areinamo and Adams drawing walks with two outs to load the bases.  In each inning, Karson Milbrandt, the Beloit starter, worked through the situation without allowing a run.
 

Both starting pitchers were out after five innings.  Milbrandt allowed one run on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts.  Cornielle allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out four.

Cornielle has pitched twelve scoreless innings with thirteen strikeouts over three games – two starts – in July.  He put himself in line for his seventh win of the season and third win of the month.  It looked like he had a pretty good chance of that happening, too.

Especially after the Timber Rattlers cashed in an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning.  Eduarqui Fernández walked and stole second.  Lara sent Fernández home with a double for a 2-0 lead.  However, the Rattlers couldn’t cash in Lara and led 2-0 heading to the seventh inning stretch.  That would cost them.

Chase Costello, who had worked a scoreless sixth inning, gave up a lead-off single to Jorge Caballero, the number seven hitter in the Beloit lineup, in the bottom of the seventh.  Carlos Santiago followed with a two-run home run to right to tie the game.  Chase Luttrell was next, and he singled.  Then, Mark Coley put the Sky Carp up with a double to left to score Luttrell from first.

Wisconsin went down in order in the eighth against Edgar Sanchez.  In the ninth, Fernández singled with one out against Xavier Meachem.  However, Meachem got Lara to ground into a game-ending double play for his seventh save and Beloit’s fifth straight win.

The Timber Rattlers were 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position in the game.
 

Game two of the series is Wednesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Yujanyer Herrera (5-1, 3.33) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Noble Meyer (0-2, 4.41) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 6:35pm at ABC Supply Stadium. 

After an 85-minute rain delay, the Milwaukee Brewers shut out the Chicago Cubs in a 1-0 pitcher’s duel at Wrigley Field.  Brewer Bryce Turange’s RBI single in the eighth inning was the difference and the only run scored in the game.

Five Milwaukee pitchers teamed up for the shutout, with Colin Rea going the first five innings and allowing only four hits while striking out eight.  Elvis Peguero (6-3) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to get the win, and Trevor Megill closed out the game in the ninth to pick up his 20th save for the season.

Jackson Chourio continued his hot hitting, going two-for-four for the Brewers.

Milwaukee (58-43) and Chicago (49-54) will play the rubber game of the series Wednesday afternoon. Justin Steele will pitch for the Cubs, and the Brewers are still determining a starter.

With area schools having athletic code meetings in the coming days, it is a sure fire sign that classes are around the corner and so are the practices and games.

The Green Bay Packers opened the 2024 Training Camp on Monday under sunny skies and in front of reportedly 4,000 fans but without their most important player under center.

Quarterback Jordan Love did not practice on Monday as he waits for a new contract. General manager Brian Gutekunst told media members that Love's representation notified the team that their star client would not practice until a new deal was done. Gutekunst added that progress is being made and that a deal will be announced in the coming days. 

The Packers are expected to hit the practice field again on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., though weather will likely force the proceedings to take place inside the Don Hutson Center.

Details are limited, but several local athletes donned their high school colors one last time over the weekend as area all-star games were held.

Luxemburg-Casco alum Braeden Schley donned a Spartans cap one last time on Sunday as a part of the Fox Valley All-Star games.

Algoma's Grant Vandervest was the only local athlete to pick up statistics in Friday's WFCA 8-Man All-Star Game. Gibraltar's Braden Sitte and Marshall Maltby also played.

Southern Door's Will Jandrin made sure he didn't leave his high school career empty-handed. Kewaunee's Demardo Echols, Owen Carlson, and Braxton Riha also played in the game.

After playing in a state championship game last November, Saturday's WFCA Large School All-Star game was just icing on the cake for Luxemburg-Casco's Ezra Waege and Trace Schoenebeck.

The Door County League played under clear blue skies on Sunday as the race for the playoffs heats up in the season's final month.

Washington Island's Jon Kordon ensured the Islanders stayed in the playoff mix with a complete-game 5-2 win over Kolberg on Sunday.

Maplewood withstood a late charge by Institute to win their game by a 6-3 margin.

In other Door County League action, Sister Bay trounced Egg Harbor 13-1, and Baileys Harbor beat West Jacksonport 7-6.

Monday's practice will be followed by the shareholders meeting inside Lambeau Field at 3 p.m.

Over the weekend, the Packers made a significant roster move, signing defensive lineman Kenny Clark to a new deal. He reportedly signed a three-year, $64 million deal to stay in the green and gold. CBS Sports is reporting that the Packers' other target for an extension, quarterback Jordan Love, is making progress but likely won't be done for Monday.

It was a busy day for big fish at the scales Saturday, Day 9 of the 42nd annual K/D Salmon Tournament. Thirteen trophy kings cracked the top 50, including an amazing four at 30-plus that moved into the top 10.

A full moon Saturday night could produce more giants that we’ll see at the scales tomorrow morning. Today, the dawn bite was the sweet spot for many fourth-summer fish, most of which came 50-70 feet down in 100 to 130 feet of water. Glow spoons, flasher/fly combos and a J-Plug were the baits most reported. The shallowest came in 80 feet of water; the deepest, 190. Often, the baits were set about halfway down. One of the midday trophies came about 10 feet off bottom.

The five ports have weighed nearly 450 20-pound-plus Chinooks, including 14 larger than 30 pounds; 22 over 29 pounds; 35 over 28 pounds; 56 over 27 pounds; and 80 over 26 pounds. The 100th place fish is sitting at 25.72 pounds, and there are 145 over 25.

Last year's record field shared in more than $80,000 in cash and prizes. First place is $15,000 cash and a silver Great Lakes Trophy salmon ring. Second place is $8,000 and a Howie's Tackle $200 shopping spree, and third place is $5,000 and a customized Yeti Cooler from Yacht Works Kewaunee.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated the Cedar Rapids Kernels 5-3 on Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Rise 2 Greatness Field.  The Rattlers scored three times in the top of the sixth inning to take a lead they refused to relinquish on the way to another series victory.

Cedar Rapids (51-37 overall, 14-10 second half) grabbed the lead in the third inning.  Rubel Cespedes hit a two-out, solo home run to right for the 1-0 advantage.  The homer was the ninth of the season for Cespedes.

Wisconsin (58-31, 16-7) answered in the top of the fourth with a two-out run of their own.  Luke Adams started the rally when he was hit by a pitch with one out.  Eduardo Garcia cracked a two-out double off the wall in left to score Adams with the tying run.  The double by Garcia was Wisconsin’s only hit off Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Jordan Carr in his five innings of work.

Cespedes struck again with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning with another two-out, solo homer to almost the same spot as his home run in the third inning.

The Timber Rattlers took advantage of some shoddy defense by the Kernels in the top of the sixth to rally with three runs against reliever Jarrett Whorff.  Luis Lara started the inning with a single and he went to second on a passed ball.  Jadher Areinamo followed with a hard grounder to third that got by Cespedes for an RBI single to drive in Lara with the tying run.

Adams was hit by another pitch to get on base after Lara’s single.  Whorff got the first out of the inning on a fly ball to center to bring Garcia back to the plate.

Garcia hit a hard grounder to third and Cespedes had it get under his glove for an error to allow Lara and Adams to score for a 4-2 lead.
 

The Kernels loaded the bases against reliever Yerlin Rodriguez with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to bring Cespedes back to the plate.  Rodriguez hit Cespedes with a pitch to force in a run and cut Wisconsin’s lead to a single run.  Rodriguez got the final out to keep the Rattlers in front.

Patricio Aquino worked two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to maintain the 4-3 lead into the ninth.  Then, Ram?n Rodríguez cranked a one-out, solo homer for Wisconsin for a little insurance.

Bayden Root gave up a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth to Cespedes before getting the final two outs to close out the game for his second save of the season.
 

The Timber Rattlers won the final two games of the series to take the set 2-1 from the Kernels.  Wisconsin is 14-2 with one split in seventeen series so far this season.

Adams now holds the Timber Rattlers franchise record for times being hit by a pitch.  The old record of 24 was set by Darrien Miller in 2022.  Adams has been hit by 26 pitches this season.  He had four plate appearances on Sunday with two walks, two hit by pitches, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
 

The Timber Rattler are off on Monday.  They return to action on Tuesday with the first game of a six-game series with the Beloit Sky Carp in Beloit, Wisconsin.  Alexander Cornielle (6-3, 2.78) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  The Sky Carp are going with Karson Milbrandt (1-4, 4.26) as their scheduled starter.  Game time is 6:35pm at ABC Supply Stadium.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were cruising with a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Rise 2 Greatness Field on Saturday night.  The cruise turned into a sudden trip through whitewater as the Kernels were inches away from a game-tying, three-run homer before the rally fell short and the Rattlers won 4-3.

The Timber Rattlers (57-31 overall, 15-7 second half) jumped to the early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning.  Luis Lara started the game with a single and a stolen base. A wild pitch moved Lara to third with one out.  Luke Adams drove Lara home with a sacrifice fly for the 1-0 advantage.

Unlike Friday night when the Rattlers could not add to a 1-0 lead in a 2-1 loss, Wisconsin tacked on two more runs on Saturday.  Matt Wood and Eduardo Garcia both singled with two outs.  Ram?n Rodríguez drove in both runners with a double for the 3-0 cushion.

Tate Kuehner dealt with a few bumps in the road over his five scoreless innings.  He walked a pair of Kernels in the second inning but closed out the inning with a pair of strikeouts.  In the fourth, Cedar Rapids again had two on with one out before Kuehner escaped on a pair of flyouts to center.  He would strike out five with two walks.

Reliever Mark Manfredi did his job with 2-1/3 scoreless innings.  He allowed one hit and struck out five.  Aaron Rund got the final two outs of the eighth inning to send the game to the ninth.

Wood set up an insurance run for the Timber Rattlers in the ninth with his third hit of the game.  The Wisconsin designated hitter doubled, his second double of the game, and left the game in favor of pinch-runner Felix Valerio.  A flyout to center was deep enough to get Valerio to third, but he was still there with two outs.

Tayden Hall got the big hit for a 4-0 lead when he pulled a 2-2 pitch through the right side of the infield to score Valerio.

Cedar Rapids (51-36, 14-9), a team that has made the Midwest League postseason every season since 2013, wasn’t going anywhere though.

Rund got the first out of the ninth before the game took a turn in front of the 4,710 fans in attendance.  Rubel Cespedes singled and Kevin Maitan doubled.  The throw into second got away from Eduardo Garcia to allow Cespedes to score and spoil Wisconsin’s shot at its tenth shutout of the season.  That would be the least of Wisconsin’s worries in a few moments.

Jay Harry was hit by a pitch to bring the tying run to the plate.  Rund struck out Nate Baez for the second out.  Then, Misael Urbina lined a 1-0 pitch off the very top of the wall in left field with left fielder Jheremy Vargas crashing into the wall going after the ball.  The crowd and Urbina thought the game was tied.  However, the ball stayed in play.  Vargas struggled to his feet and got the ball in to keep Urbina at second base before falling back to the ground.  Vargas would need assistance to get off the field.

Play resumed after the delay and Rund wasted no time in getting the final out with no more drama.  He struck out Kyle Hess on three pitches to close out the contest and even the series at one win for each team.

The rubber game – and the series finale – is Sunday afternoon at Rise 2 Greatness Field.  The Timber Rattlers have Will Rudy (3-6, 4.98) as their scheduled starting pitcher.  The Kernels are going with Jordan Carr (2-3, 5.43) as their starter.  Game time is 1:05pm. 

Saturday's 2-0 win over Berber City meant a lot more than that for the Green Bay Glory.

Tom Geocaris and Tim Geocaris registered the two goals for the Glory to help them not just climb to the top of the table but earn promotion to the top tier of the Midwest Premier League.

The Glory return to action next weekend with games in Rockford and Appleton.

A four-run fifth inning catapulted the Green Bay Rockers to an 8-0 win over the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders Saturday afternoon.

The Rockers put up single tallies in the third and fourth innings before their big frame. The fifth inning was highlighted by a three-run homer by Mulivai Levu. Nick Harms and Sam Miller collected RBI in the seventh inning. 

Three pitchers combined for the shutout, with Trevon Paschal earning the win. 

The Washington Island Islanders need a win to keep pace for the last spot in the Door County League playoffs but face a tough test Sunday at home against the Kolberg Braves.

The Islanders held off the Indians 10-8 in Egg Harbor last Sunday afternoon thanks to Bennett Isaacson, who struck out the final two batters with the bases loaded in the ninth to preserve the win for Washington Island. Luke Gieger had five hits and Foss finished with three RBIs to pace the Islanders.

Kolberg scored nine runs in the final three innings to beat Institute 12-5 for their second win of the weekend. Down 3-2 late against the Cubs, a Dart single turned into three runs thanks to an error. Thanks to another error by the Cubs defense, Dart would score later in the inning. The Braves would put the game away in the ninth inning with five runs in the frame, capitalized by extra-base hits by Devin Schinktgen and Jack Peterson.

The Green Bay Glory will hit the road again on Saturday against Berber City in their efforts to win a trophy in their first year of existence.

Aidan Greer, Tim Geocaris, and Edgar Heredia scored in their 3-2 win over Edgewater Castle last week, with Heredia's header serving as the match-winner. 

The first touch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Dunbar Park in Chicago. 

With one home playoff game locked up, the Green Bay Blizzard are hoping to earn more dates on the calendar when they play the Sioux Falls Storm on Saturday. 

In their 45-42 win over Jacksonville last week, Max Meylor was an efficient 15-for-18 for 138 yards and four scores while running for the other two touchdowns. A touchdown pass with just over five minutes remaining proved to be the insurance score they needed.

If the Blizzard can win the 7:05 p.m. showdown with the Storm, they will clinch the number one seed in the playoffs.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers tried to hold off the Cedar Rapids Kernels all night Friday at Rise 2 Greatness Field.  The Rattlers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Kernels kept the pressure on and eventually broke through with two runs in the seventh inning.  Cedar Rapids had to escape a late jam of their own in the eighth before they eventually posted a 2-1 victory over the Rattlers in both team’s first action since Sunday.

Wisconsin (56-31 overall, 14-7 second half) rallied with two outs in the top of the second inning to take the lead.  Tayden Hall and Jesús Chirinos both singled with two away to put runners on the corners.  Eduarqui Fernández followed with an infield single to drive in Hall for the 1-0 lead.

Cedar Rapids (51-35, 14-8) put their first two runners on base with a hit and a hit batsman in the bottom of the second against emergency starter Stiven Cruz.  The Kernels did not take advantage as Cruz got the first out on a force play at second before escaping the jam with an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play.  Cruz was forced into action when scheduled starting pitcher Brian Fitzpatrick was scratched due to illness earlier in the day.

Cruz and reliever Tyler Wehrle pitched in and out of trouble several times through the first six innings.  The duo maintained the 1-0 lead with help from three double plays by the defense and making some good pitches when they needed them.

The Kernels rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning against Aidan Maldonado, who had just joined the Timber Rattlers from Carolina earlier in the day.  A single and a hit batsman started the inning.  Maldonado got a strikeout before a walk loaded the bases.  Kyle Hess, who had grounded into a double play in the fifth inning, hit a ball deep to right center for a sacrifice fly to score the tying run and move the other runners up a base.

The was key because Maldonado would throw a wild pitch to allow the go-ahead run to score.

The Rattlers had a chance in the top of the eighth inning.  Luke Adams was hit by a pitch to start the inning.  An errant throw on a potential double play ball off the bat of Matt Wood wound up in left field to give the Rattlers runners at the corners with no outs.  However, the next two batters struck out against Kyle Bischoff.  Gabriel Yanez was called into the game and got the final out of the inning.  Yanez would work a perfect ninth inning to close out the game and Wisconsin’s six-game winning streak.

Adams has tied the Timber Rattlers franchise record for times being hit by a pitch in a season.  He has matched Darrien Miller, who was hit by 24 pitches in 2022.

Wisconsin’s defense turned four double plays while Rattler pitchers hit five Cedar Rapids batters in the game.

All seven of the Timber Rattlers hits were after they had two outs in an inning.  The Kernels had the lead-off batter reach base in six of the eight innings in which they batted.  However, Wisconsin was 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position while the Kernels were 0-for-11 in the same situation.

Game two of the series at Rise 2 Greatness Field is Saturday night.  Tate Kuehner (4-2, 3.02) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Darren Bowen (2-4, 6.23) is set to start for the Kernels.  Game time is 6:35pm.

For three local athletes, this weekend is the end of the road for their high school football careers.

Southern Door’s Will Jandrin will play for the North squad in the Small Schools game, while Gibraltar's Braden Sitte and Marshall Maltby will play for the South squad in the 8-man game. Jandrin's Small School All-Star game is scheduled for July 20 at noon while Maltby and Sitte will suit up for the Eight-Player All-Star game that is scheduled for July 19 at 6 p.m.

We're down to the final three mornings — and just two more evenings — to fish in this year's K/D. The 42nd annual tournament ends at noon Sunday. There's still time to get in on the action! Tickets will be available until the early-morning hours Sunday.

Nine Chinooks larger than 30 pounds were on the leaderboard through Thursday, and the top 38 were all at least 27 pounds. More than 330 20-pound-plus salmon have been brought to the weigh-ins, a third of them larger than 25 pounds.

Baileys 57 weighed two 28-plus whoppers Thursday, including Stan Novak's 28.73 — the 16th heaviest of the event so far. Brian Havelka Jr. of Wallace, Michigan, and friend Chad Albert, weighed a 27.91 at Howie's Tackle (pictured), good for 25th currently.

The culmination of 24 runs and 29 hits went the way of the Algoma Guins Thursday night as they defeated the Ashwaubenon Lookouts 15-9.

The Lookouts jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Guins would take control as they scored 10 of the next 11 runs in the game to take a 10-4 lead. Both teams would bring the lumber in the fifth inning, with the Lookouts plating four runs and the Guins answering with three of their own. The Guins tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth inning before the Lookouts ended the contest with one more of their own.

Ben Skenadore led the way offensively as he drove in five runs and went 2-4 with a home run. Spencer Krause (Sister Bay) was a perfect 5-5 with three RBI, and Brady Kita (Egg Harbor) drove in a pair. Door County League players Austen Dart (Kolberg) and  Jaden Dillar (Maplewood) also drove in runs, while Jack Peterson (Kolberg) posted three hits. 

The Green Bay Rockers answer every challenge from the Lakeshore Chinooks late to salvage a 5-4 win Thursday night.

A RBI groundout and two-run homer from Sam Miller made it 3-0 only to have the Chinooks tie it up in the top of the second inning. It would stay that way until the seventh inning when Jake Bold singled in Lukas Torres to make it 4-3. Once again, the Chinooks would tie the game in the top of the next inning when a double brought home the son of Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell Brady Counsell to make it 4-4. An RBI groundout in the bottom of the eighth would give the Rockers their third straight win.

The Rockers are back in action Friday when they make a return visit to the Lakeshore Chinooks.

Activity around Lambeau Field will intensify starting next week.  The Green Bay Packers will start the first of 16 public practices this preseason on Monday, starting with a 10:30 a.m. practice set.

According to Discover Green Bay, the economic impact of the training camp is more than $9 million, and over 80,000 fans will attend training camp.

Family night is scheduled for Saturday, August 3. Family Fest will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. and will feature activities for kids and adults.

The Green Bay Packers Shareholders meeting will take place inside Lambeau Field at 3:00 p.m. on Monday with the Atrium and Hall of Fame open to the public all day.  

The Green Bay Rockers hung on to defeat the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders at Capital Credit Union Field Wednesday night 7-6.  

The Rockers scored three runs in the eighth inning to take a 7-5 lead and were able to overcome a Spider’s rally in the ninth inning.

Nick Harms collected three hits and Lukas Torres went two-for-four to lead the Rockers’ offensive attack. 

Michael Riley (1-3) pitched two innings in relief to pick up the win and Charlie Adamson preserved the win with a save, his first of the year, even though he was touched up with two hits and one run.

Veteran forward Khris Middleton of the Milwaukee Bucks reportedly had arthroscopic surgeries on his left and right ankles this offseason.  According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, coach Doc Rivers announced this week that the three-time all-star underwent surgeries this summer.  Rivers was confident that Middleton would be fine by the start of training camp this fall.

“He was injured, you know, through the playoffs,” Rivers said. “And just played because, you know, no one else was playing. He played terrific. He had surgery in the summer, but he’ll be fine by the beginning of camp, which is good for us.”

Middleton injured his left ankle severely in February against the Phoenix Suns and missed 16 games at that time before coming back strong late in the season.

The 32-year-old Middleton was reportedly back on the court this summer and “doing great” according to a NBA source.

A seven-run seventh inning ended Algoma's night against Branch early with a 13-1 win.

The Blaze scored the game's first run, but the Guins tallied three in the next frame thanks in part to RBI from Jack Peterson (Kolberg) and Austen Dart (Kolberg). It would stay that way until the sixth inning when the Guins doubled their advantage with three more runs. Jaden Dillar (Maplewood) delivered the frame's biggest blow with a two-run single that was made worse thanks to an error.

Dillar would drive in two more in the fatal seventh inning for the Guins when he hit a bases-loaded single. After the Guins drew a bases-loaded walk, Dart came through again with his own two-run single before Cam DuPont and Brody Kollath finished the rally with RBI. 

The Green Bay Packers put the "green" in "green and gold" this past fiscal year, according to their annual report released on Tuesday.

The Packers posted an operating profit of $60.1 million, which, according to Packers.com, represents a double-digit percentage drop from last year due to the depreciation of capital investments in Lambeau Field and football facilities. The Packers raked in $654 in revenue last year, which was up over $44 million compared to last year. Expenses went up over $50 million from the previous year because of contractual obligations and investments in the stadium. Amid their lease spat with the City of Green Bay, the Packers pointed out that they have invested approximately $600 million into Lambeau Field without relying on public funds. 

The Packers will dive deeper into the organization's finances as a part of its stockholders' meeting, which will be held at 3 p.m. inside Lambeau Field, hours after the team holds its first practice.

The Green Bay Rockers scored at least two runs in five different innings, including a six-run sixth inning in a 19-7 rout of the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders Tuesday night.

The Rockers held a 4-0 lead by the second inning before the Dock Spiders scratched across their first run. In addition to their six-run sixth inning, they put up four runs in the previous frame to put the game away well before the final out of the game was recorded. Those innings were highlighted by home runs by Jake Bold and two-run hits by Seth Farni and Sam Miller.

The Rockers recorded 20 hits on the evening, including seven players with multi-hit efforts. Mateo Matthews and Nick Harms each had three hits in the win.

We've reached the midway point of the 42nd annual K/D Salmon Tournament. After a north blow tomorrow afternoon, the long-term forecast heading into a full moon weekend is lighter offshore winds on the lake side of the K/D peninsula. That and some very good fishing will lure a lot of anglers hoping to cash in on some prize money, or tasty fillets (how about both?).

More than 250 20-pound-plus Chinooks have been brought to the five tournament scales, including nearly 100 weighing between 25 and 33.97 pounds.

The Kewaunee Chiefs earned their third win of the season on Monday night, beating Branch 7-2.

Lincoln Barta got things off on the right with foot with his feet, stretching a base hit into an inside-the-park homer to make it 1-0.  With the game tied, Alex Rohr doubled home a run to make it 2-1 in the sixth. The Chiefs would score five runs over the next two innings, outhitting the Blaze 11-4 for the night.

Wyatt Kruse led the way as he went 3-5 with a RBI. Barta and Cal Ihlenfeldt each added two hits a piece in the win that went to pitcher Joe Anderson, who allowed two runs (1ER) on four hits in a complete-game effort. 

No score could be found for Monday's Casco/Manitowoc game.

Christian Miller of Racine used a spoon Monday morning to haul in a 39.5-inch, 30.90-pounder (photo 1). It was weighed at Howie’s Tackle. Also at Sturgeon Bay, Eric Fritsche of Franksville used a flasher/fly combo to land a 38.5-inch, 29.23-pounder.

We’ll blame sketchy Northern Door internet for the lack of the end-of-day report from Baileys Harbor, but we do know Jeremy Ostrowski brought in a 29.49 Monday afternoon, caught late Sunday night. We’ll put an * by that one for a port prize winner, pending the report, which we’ll look at in the morning.

At Kewaunee, Brooke Gerondale of Luxemburg captured a 38.5-inch, 29.36-pounder. It hit a flasher/fly combo Sunday night.

A seven-run sixth inning for the Wausau Woodchucks was more than enough to beat the Green Bay Rockers in a 12-4 affair.

The two sides traded blows up to that point, with the Rockers only down by one run before the fatal bottom of the sixth that saw 10 Woodchucks come up to bat and Colin Bruggemann hitting a three-run homer to put an exclamation point on the frame.

The Rockers only registered five hits in the game with Nick Harms coming through with two of them. Harms, Mulivai Levu, and Jake Bold registered RBI for the Rockers in the loss.  

The first season for the men's side of the Green Bay Glory has been success before the team has even completed its slate of fixtures.

At 8-2-0, the Glory are in first place in the Heartland Division 2 standings, just a point above AFC Roscoe. Their goal differential of +18 is also tops in the division. They most recently defeated Edgewater Castle 3-2. 

The Glory will try to extend their lead in the standings on Saturday when they play at Berber City FC. 

Four teams are now within two games of each other for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Door County League standings after an exciting Sunday of action.

Coming down to the final pitch, the Washington Island Islanders were able to hold off the Egg harbor Indians 10-8 in Egg Harbor Sunday afternoon.

Kolberg scored nine runs in the final three innings to beat Institute 12-5 for the second win of the weekend.

Maplewood avenged their Saturday afternoon loss to Kolberg with an 8-4 victory against West Jacksonport.

Sister Bay held on in a Northern Door grudge match, beating Baileys Harbor 7-6.

The Wausau Woodchucks made things interesting, but the Green Bay Rockers were able to hold on for an 8-6 win Sunday afternoon. 

The Rockers jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first three innings with Blade Carver's two-run blast in the second inning serving as the biggest blow. Carver's RBI single in the fifth proved to be an important insurance run as the Woodchucks began their charge after that with two runs in the sixth inning and four in the seventh. The Rockers would give themselves a little breathing room in the seventh when Jake Bold slugged a solo shot to make it 8-6. The Woodchucks would threaten in the eighth before leaving the frame with two men aboard, but went 1-2-3 in the ninth to give the Rockers their fourth win of the second half.

Sam Miller went 4-5 with two doubles, while Bold went 3-4 with two extra-base hits, including the homer. 

The first signs of the 2024 season will rear their heads on Wednesday when the first Green Bay Packers players report to Lambeau Field this week.

Quarterbacks, rookies, and injured players report to camp ahead of the rest of the roster on July 22nd. The Packers will host 16 open-to-the-public practices, all of which begin at 10:30 a.m. One of those practices will be a joint effort with the Baltimore Ravens on August 22nd, ahead of their preseason game at the end of the month.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers have their first six-game winning streak of the season after Sunday’s 5-3 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps at Neuroscience Group Field.  Felix Valerio had a two-run single as part of a four-run fifth inning that was the difference in the game.

The game was started on Saturday night before a sudden downpour hit the area to halt the game after one inning and a thirty minute delay.  The game was resumed on Sunday afternoon and the Whitecaps (41-45 overall, 10-10 second half) took the lead.

Patrick Lee doubled and took third on an error as the first batter of the top of the second.  Danny Serretti drove in Lee with a single for the 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin (56-30, 14-6) tied the game in the bottom of the third.  Luis Lara singled and stole second.  Luke Adams drove in Lara with a single to even the score.

Jheremy Vargas and Lara started the rally in the bottom of the fifth with consecutive singles.  Then, Eduardo Garcia singled to send Vargas across the plate with the go-ahead run.  Valerio stepped in with one out and found himself down 0-2 before he lined a one-hop double off the wall in left to drive in both runners.  Tayden Hall capped the inning with an RBI single for a 5-1 lead.

Devin Williams, who was with the Timber Rattlers on a Major League rehab assignment from the Milwaukee Brewers, took the mound for the top of the sixth.  Williams struck out all three batters he faced with fourteen pitches – nine strikes – before leaving as scheduled.

The Whitecaps got close in the seventh inning with solo homers from Serretti and Dom Johnson off Tyler Wehrle.

Stiven Cruz, Wisconsin’s sixth pitcher of the game, hit the first batter he faced in the eighth.  He retired the next three hitters to maintain the lead.

Chase Costello struck out the first two batters in the ninth.  However, a single, a walk, and a single loaded the bases for West Michigan.  Costello got the final out on a force out at third for his third save of the season.

Wisconsin is 26 games over .500 for the first time since July 30, 2001 when they were 65-39.

The Timber Rattlers and the rest of the Midwest League are off for the next four days.  Wisconsin returns to action on Friday, July 19 with the first game of a three-game series against the Cedar Rapids Kernel at Rise 2 Greatness Field in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Game time is 6:35pm.

The Force was not with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Star Wars Night. A downpour hit Neuroscience Group Field in the bottom of the first inning of the game between the Rattlers and West Michigan Whitecaps and forced a suspension of play at the end of the frame. The game will be resumed in the top of the second inning on Sunday at 1:10pm. There will not be a second game played on Sunday. The second game will not be rescheduled. A softball game between local Fire and Police sponsored by Capital Credit Union will take place thirty minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game.

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Devin Williams, who was scheduled to make a rehabilitation appearance as a reliever for the Timber Rattlers on Saturday night, is now scheduled to make his rehab assignment for Sunday. Williams will pitch in relief at some point on Sunday.

Maplewood and Kolberg combined for 22 hits, but five Mets errors loomed large in a 12-7 win for the Braves.

The Mets opened the scoring with an Adam Gutschow RBI groundout before the Braves piled up three runs in the bottom of the first thanks to RBIs by Trevor Reinhardt and Christian Counard. A Tyler Neinas single in the fourth inning made it 4-1 Braves, but Jaden Diller's two-RBI single in the fifth inning got the Mets within one run halfway through the game.

Reinhardt and Austen Dart got those runs back in the bottom of the fifth with run scoring hits before Counard's double an inning later made it 8-3. The Mets would get another two runs in the seventh inning, but give them right back thanks to an error on a bunt and a single by Nick LeCaptain. It was 12-3 in the top of the ninth when the Mets staged a mini-comeback with Kordell Draves a pair, but they would leave two on when Charlie Neinas shut the door for the Braves with a strikeout.

Jake Schneider earned the win, allowing five runs on five hits while striking out 10 across seven innings.

The Washington Island Islanders will pay a visit on the mainland to the Egg Harbor Indians on Sunday in Door County League baseball.

The Islanders (3-6) are coming off a loss to Maplewood last Sunday as Ben Geiger and Alex Johnson led Washington Island with two hits each.  Caleb Cornell leads the DCL in hitting at a .520 clip.

Egg Harbor (5-4) lost a heartbreaker to West Jacksonport 4-3 last Sunday, managing only four hits against the Ports.  Cory Fuller leads the Indians in hitting with a .382 average, the sixth-best in the league.

The Pregame show starts at 1:15 p.m. with the first pitch at 1:30 p.m. from Egg Harbor Park on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.  Paul Schmitt and Shelly Lau will have the call of the game.

Elsewhere, the Kohlberg Braves (7-1)  take on the Institute Cubs (0-9), West Jacksonport (3-6) travels to Maplewood to face the Mets (6-2), and Baileys Harbor (3-6) is at Sister Bay (8-1). 

Mother Nature will allow Kolberg and Maplewood to fit in a second crack at their rainout from last month on Saturday.

The game was moved to July 13th after torrential downpours earlier in that week produced poor field conditions. The old-timers game scheduled to take place before the matchup has since been canceled.

Maplewood scored the game's first six runs in a 10-5 win over Washington Island on the road last Sunday afternoon. The Mets scored four runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Adam Gutschow, a two-run homer from Kordell Draves, and the first of six Islanders errors. After chasing pitcher Ryan Jorgenson from the game after just over an inning of work, Tory Jandrin made it 6-0 with a two-run single in the second inning. Jeremiah Jahnke earned the win for the Mets, allowing four runs (3 ER) on six hits while striking out seven.

Kolberg survived a late scare to hand Sister Bay its first loss of the season, 8-6, last Sunday. The Braves struck first with two runs in the fourth inning when Austin Rohe singled off Sam Forkert to bring home, Trevor Reinhardt and Jack Peterson. Kyle Routhieaux's bases-clearing triple and Rohe's second RBI single gave the Braves the lead back before Tyler Neinas made it a two-run lead. The Braves would add important insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning when Jack Peterson hit his second homer in as many weeks.

The two teams will face each other at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday before the Mets host Jacksonport and the Braves visit the Institute on Sunday.

Algoma Penguins fell to Kewaunee 5-1 on Friday at Kewaunee.

A wild pitch put Kewaunee on the board in the bottom of the first.

Kewaunee added one run in the third. Joe Anderson hit a sacrifice fly, making the score 3-0.

Bryce Henninger earned the win for Kewaunee. They surrendered five hits and one run over nine innings, striking out eight and walking one. Carson Leist took the loss for Algoma Penguins. The righty went six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out six and walking three.

Evan Monfre led Algoma Penguins with one run batted in.  Will Jandrin led Algoma Penguins with two hits in four at bats.

Anderson went 2-for-3 at the plate as the left-handed hitter led the team with one run batted in. Nathan Halvitz stole two bases. Kewaunee stole five bases in the game.

Next up for Algoma Penguins is a game at Branch on Tuesday.

A quartet of Wisconsin Timber Rattlers pitchers were in perfect harmony as they twirled a three-hit shutout over the West Michigan Whitecaps on Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Will Rudy, Bayden Root, Yerlin Rodriguez, and Aaron Rund combined for ten strikeouts as they continued an incredible run of pitching for the Timber Rattlers.

Wisconsin (55-30 overall, 13-6 second half) broke out on top in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Luis Lara hit lead-off home run to right, his second home run of the season, to put the Rattlers up 1-0.  Jadher Areinamo followed with a single.  Then, Luke Adams hit his ninth home run of the season and the Rattlers were up 3-0.

Lara added to the lead with a sacrifice fly to score Jesús Chirinos in the bottom of the fifth.

West Michigan (41-44, 10-9) had two hits and three walks in the first five innings against Rudy, the Rattlers starting pitcher, who turned the game over to the bullpen for the sixth.  Rudy had five strikeouts in the scoreless outing.

The Timber Rattlers scored twice more in the sixth inning.  Eduardo Garcia tripled, and Tayden Hall walked with two outs.  Jesús Chirinos drove in Garcia with a single to knock West Michigan starting pitcher Colin Fields out of the game. 

Three Wisconsin relievers closed out the game with four scoreless innings.  Root allowed a hit and struck out two over two shutout innings.  Rodriguez tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning with a strikeout.  Rund struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to close out Wisconsin’s third shutout of the Whitecaps in the series.

Bennett Lee had all three of West Michigan’s hits on Friday night.  Felix Valerio had three hits for the Timber Rattlers.

In the first four games of this series, Wisconsin pitchers have allowed two runs – one earned – and struck out 41 over 37 innings.

The Timber Rattlers have won five games in a row.  This is the fourth time they have won five in a row.  The Timber Rattlers are also 25 games over .500 for the first time since 2001.  Plus, Friday’s shutout was their ninth of the season, which ties the Dayton Dragons for the Midwest League lead in that category.

Game five of the series is Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Yujanyer Herrera (5-1, 3.40) is set to start with Devin Williams scheduled to pitch in relief for the Timber Rattlers.  West Michigan will counter with Joe Miller (4-1, 2.53) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

After having the holiday weekend off, the Green Bay Blizzard are back in action on Saturday with a road contest against the Jacksonville Sharks.

In their last game, the Blizzard scored 23 unanswered points and never looked back in a 54-20 win over the Tulsa Oilers on June 29th. The win helped secure a home playoff game scheduled for June 26th.

Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m.

The Shoreland League threatened late but could never push the tying or winning runs across as the Door County League escaped Joannes Park with a 5-4 All-Star Game victory Thursday night.

After a scoreless first inning, Door County struck first when Jack Peterson (Kolberg) drove in Trevor Reinhardt (Kolberg) and Cody Giesseman (Egg Harbor) to make 2-0. Shoreland would cut the lead in half in the third inning when Cal Ihlenfeldt (Kewaunee) singled in Noah Lindsley (Casco). Peterson would strike again in the fourth inning with an RBI single that saw Riley Spetz (Egg Harbor) come around to score. 

Stew Larsen (Sister Bay) would come through in the fifth with a single that saw Troy Jorgenson (Washington Island) and Spencer Krause (Sister Bay) come around to score to make 5-1. Shoreland would start chipping away at the advantage from there. Trevor Cornell's RBI single brought home a pair in the sixth and Chris Kopic (Branch) singled in another to make it 5-4. Door County's pitchers would come through in the clutch, stranding at least one Shoreland player in scoring position in the final four innings. Door County last great chance came in the eighth inning, but Shoreland doubled up their guests as they threw out Tom Sawyer trying to steal a run to prevent the lead from getting widened.

The game-clinching play came in the bottom of the ninth, with the Shoreland League threatening with men on second and third. A slow bouncer to Krause sealed the game late to preserve the victory.

Door County League action resumes on Saturday when Kolberg hosts Maplewood in a makeup contest.

New Green Bay men's basketball coach Doug Gottlieb wants to take his team on the road this summer but needs the NCAA to give its blessing first.

In a video posted on X on Thursday, Gottlieb revealed that his team was asked to play in The Basketball Tournament, a 64-team tournament that culminates with $1 million winner-take-all championship. The organizers also put on The Soccer Tournament, which has welcomed Wrexham the last two years to capitalize on their international following. 

Gottlieb says participating in the tournament would violate at least three NCAA rules about collegiate teams participating in a non-sanctioned event during the summer. He says the program would be willing to forgo an international tour to participate, which allows the program to do something similar to the TBT, albeit in a different country. He adds that they would also be willing to donate the winnings if they captured the tournament title. Gottlieb says the department has filed an appeal in order to participate. 

Green Bay does have a tie to the TBT already in its program history. Alum Keifer Sykes sank a game-winning three to capture the 2021 title and the $1

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers trailed the West Michigan 2-1 heading into the bottom of the tenth inning on Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Rattlers were not bothered by this deficit.  Luke Adams tied the game with an RBI double and Matt Wood delivered the game-winning hit with a double that scored Adams for a 3-2 victory.

West Michigan (41-43 overall, 10-8 second half) took the lead with their first run of the series.  Jim Jarvis hit a 1-2 pitch from K.C. Hunt to left field for his fourth home run of the season and a 1-0 advantage.

Hunt would not give up another hit.  He worked six innings, allowed one run on three hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Wisconsin (54-30, 12-6) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Luis Lara and Joey Ortiz walked to start the inning.  Jadher Areinamo singled to center to score Lara with the tying run.

Ortiz went 0-for-2 with a walk in three plate appearances for the Timber Rattlers on his rehab assignment from the Milwaukee Brewers.  Adams would replace Ortiz at third base for the top of the eighth inning.

Both teams had chances to take the lead late in regulation.  The Rattlers had two on with one out in the seventh and loaded the bases in the eight.  The Whitecaps had second and third with no outs and the bases loaded with one out against Chase Costello in the ninth.  Neither team would score to send the game went to extra innings.

In the tenth, West Michigan scored when Costello uncorked a wild pitch with one out to let the go-ahead run score for a 2-1 lead.

The Timber Rattlers responded in the bottom of the tenth.  Luis Lara was placed at second base as the automatic runner for extra innings.  Luke Adams drilled a 3-1 pitch from Yosber Sanchez down the line in left field for an RBI double to tie the game. West Michigan elected to walk Areinamo to pitch to Wood.

Wood spoiled the strategy by lining a double to right-center to score Adams with the winning run.

Wisconsin has six walkoff wins this season.  They have also reached 24 games over .500, a height not reached by a Timber Rattlers club since the 2001 season.

Adams, who was hit by a pitch in his first plate appearance on Thursday night, has now reached base in seven straight plate appearances dating back his final plate appearance of the game on Tuesday night.  He has three hits, two hit batsmen, and two walks.

In 28 innings during this series with West Michigan, Wisconsin pitchers have allowed one earned run.  In July, the team is now 7-2 with a team ERA of 1.91.  Opposing hitters are batting just .167 and have struck out 102 times in 80 innings against Rattlers pitchers in July.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Will Rudy (2-6, 5.37) is set to be the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Colin Fields (2-3, 3.36) is the announced starter for the Whitecaps.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Thirty-seven teams will find themselves in a different division next year thanks to the WIAA's performance factor rules, including some that have close ties to local schools.

Luxemburg-Casco's NEC rivals Freedom in softball and Denmark in baseball will both find themselves in different divisions next year thanks to their recent success. It's the same reason why the Spartans' wrestling team will elevate to Division 1 last year after two straight titles in the team state tournament. You can read the full WIAA release below:

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association performance factor initiative has advanced through the process for the third time with a review of the spring sports for implementation in 2024-25.

An ad hoc committee consisting of 11 superintendents/district administrators, six athletic directors, one principal and one principal/athletic director proposed the performance factor process, which was approved by a 265-115 membership vote at the 2023 Annual Meeting for implementation in 2024-25. The initiative promotes school programs that reach a threshold of tournament success based on a performance point system allocated over a three-year period. 

School programs reaching the six-point performance factor threshold during the past three seasons are placed in the division containing the next largest set of enrollments from where the schools’ enrollments would place them for each respective sport other than track & field and swimming &?diving–which do not have a team component to advancement in the Tournament Series–and sports with only one division. Schools are restricted to moving up a maximum of one division from the previous year’s placement. 

This new initiative affords schools the opportunity to request to move down a division with lower enrollments. The Classification Committee reviewed seven such requests for spring sports, including three for baseball, two for softball, and one each in girls soccer and boys tennis. Two of those requests were approved in baseball, and one softball, girls soccer and boys tennis. 

The spring school sports programs that have accumulated at least six points to engage a promotion to a division with higher enrollments–if their 2024-25 tournament placement enrollment doesn’t initially move them up a division–are listed below.

Please note that programs reaching the performance points threshold to be promoted and are initially assigned to a lower enrollment division–based on their 2024-25 tournament assignment enrollments–will be promoted back into the division they competed in during the most recent season’s Tournament Series. 

The performance factor process affords schools the opportunity to appeal their promotion to the division with the next largest enrollments based on performance points. Of the 37 programs listed above that compiled the threshold of points to engage in a promotion,10 appeals were submitted. The Classification Committee reviewed and evaluated these with one approval. It is also noteworthy that 10 of the 37 programs that achieved the six-point threshold competed in Division 1 in 2024 and will be promoted only if their enrollment places them in a division with lower enrollments.

The WIAA will release the Tournament Series assignments for all 2024-25 spring sports later this summer.

The best of the best in two northeast Wisconsin wood bat leagues will meet under the lights of Green Bay's Joannes Park Thursday night when the Door County League All-Stars meets the Shoreland League All-Stars.

Last year, the Shoreland League held onto beat the Door County League 6-4. Door County kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the first when Egg Harbor's Cody Giesseman doubled home Kolberg's Nick LeCaptain to make it 1-0. Trouble struck in the second inning when the Shoreland League sent 11 batters up against Maplewood's Jeremiah Jahnke, scoring five of their six runs in the frame. Door County cut into the lead in the fifth inning thanks to a double steal that brought home Egg Harbor's Corey Fuller and West Jacksonport's Kyle Volkmann singling home Nick Kita to make it 5-3. They would get it to a one-run game in the eighth inning when Washington Island's Ben Geiger drove in his teammate Luke Geiger, only to see Algoma's Austen Dart hurt his DCL counterparts with an RBI single to give the game its final margin.

Since returning to this All-Star format, the two leagues have split their matchups. The Door County League announced their lineup earlier this month while the Shoreland League has not released theirs as of Thursday morning.

The Green Bay athletics department is helping you plan out your fall and winter by announcing some of their fall and winter schedules.

In the past few weeks, the Phoenix soccer teams announced their upcoming schedules, with exhibitions starting in late August before the regular season begins in September.

On the women's basketball front, the team announced a home-and-home matchup with Big 12 power Kansas State. The Phoenix will travel to Manhattan, Kan. on November 4th, 2024, before hosting the Wildcats in 2025. 

For the men's team, head coach Doug Gottlieb discussed their schedule with Fox 11 during the team's annual golf outing. He mentioned road games with Oklahoma State on November 4th, Providence, Ohio State, and Drake while hosting UC Santa Barbara and St. Thomas. He calls it a challenging schedule but told Fox 11 that it is about a process, with beating Milwaukee and Oakland and winning the Horizon League Tournament being the chief goals. Their schedule is expected to be released in the coming days.

The Green Bay Rockers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but could not muster much else in an 8-3 loss to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 8-3 on Wednesday.

Lane Allen opened the game with a solo shot, and Mulivai Levu added his own home run to put the Rockers ahead. The Rafters would scratch across three runs in the bottom half of the inning before putting up five runs in the sixth inning thanks to a two-run double by Chris Arroyo and a two-run homer from Aidan Teel. A fourth-inning RBI sacrifice fly was the only other run the Rockers would score in the contest.

The Rockers will have the day off with the Beach Boys in town at Capital Credit Union Park. They will be back in action on Friday at Kenosha before hosting the Kingfish on Saturday.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers followed up Tuesday’s 4-0 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps with a 7-0, one-hit shutout of the Whitecaps at Neuroscience Group Field on Wednesday afternoon.  Tate Kuehner and Brian Fitzpatrick combined on a one-hit shutout with Felix Valerio hitting a grand slam in the third inning to provide a big boost to the offense.

Wisconsin (53-30 overall, 11-6 second half) had the first threat of the game loaded the bases in the bottom of the third inning against West Michigan starting pitcher Joey Adametz. Jheremy Vargas singled with one out.  Then, Jadher Areinamo doubled, and Luke Adams walked with two outs.  Eduardo Garcia reached on an infield single to score Vargas with the first run of the inning.

Valerio was next, and he launched a 1-2 pitch to the roof of the Left Field Lofts for a grand slam and a 5-0 lead.  The homer was the second of the season for Valerio.
 

That was more than enough for Kuehner.  The Wisconsin starting pitcher allowed one hit over six scoreless innings.  The only jam Kuehner found himself in on the afternoon was after he walked two batters with two outs in the top of the sixth.  He got out of the situation on hard hit ball to short that Garcia corralled and fired to second for the inning ending force out.  He walked three, hit one, and struck out two on just 74 pitches over his six innings.  Kuehner matched his single-game high for innings pitched as a pro with his performance on Wednesday.

The Rattlers offense added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh.  Vargas hit a lead-off homer, his fifth home run of the season, for the first run.  Luis Lara followed with a double.  Luke Adams doubled with one out to score Lara for the 7-0 lead.

Brian Fitzpatrick, who relieved Kuehner to start the top of the seventh, earned his first professional save by working three perfect innings.  Fitzpatrick struck out four as he closed out the game.

The lone hit for West Michigan (41-42, 10-7) came in the first inning against Kuehner.  Seth Stephenson hit a little dribbler that made the grass in front of home plate.  Kuehner tried to pick up the ball with his barehand but could not field the ball to get the speedy Stephenson at first base.  However, Stephenson was picked off first by Kuehner a few moments later.  The Whitecaps had one at bat with a runner in scoring position on Wednesday.

Valerio’s grand slam was the third of the season for the Timber Rattlers.  It was also the second by a Rattler against the Whitecaps this season.

Wisconsin pitchers have recorded eight shutouts this season, including four in July.  Wednesday marked the second time in the last week Wisconsin had pitched two consecutive shutouts.  Wisconsin also shutout Beloit in games on July 3 and July 4.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  K.C. Hunt (3-1, 2.62) is set to start for the Timber Rattlers.  The Whitecaps have named Colin Fields (2-3, 3.36) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

Algoma Penguins broke open a 1-1 game in the seventh inning, scoring five runs en route to a 6-1 win over the Casco A's in Shoreland Leagure baseball Tuesday night.

The Penguins struck early in the first inning with Jack Peterson hitting a solo home run 

Trevor Reinhardt singled in a run in the sixth inning for the A's to tie the game up before the Penguins exploded in the seventh


Aaron Brey picked up the win for the Penguins, giving up just three hits and no runs over three and one-third innings.  He had three strikeouts and no walks. Cole Bzwadka took the loss for Casco. 

Peterson went 2-for-3  with two RBIs for the Penguins, while Bzwadka went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Casco's offense.

Algoma Penguins will travel to Kewaunee to face the Chiefs on Friday.

The Green Bay Rockers could not overcome a three-run first inning by the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in dropping Tuesday’s game 10-4 at Capital Credit Union Field.

Wisconsin Rapids jumped on starting pitcher Mikel Howell for three runs as the Rockers had to use four pitchers in the game.

The Rockers battled back from a 5-0 deficit to cut the lead to 5-4 in the sixth inning, but the Rafters exploded for five runs in the seventh to seal the victory.

The Rockers managed ten hits in the game but could only muster four runs.  Luke Moeller led the way with two hits and an RBI, with every player in the lineup getting one hit each.  Taylor Schultz scored two runs for Green Bay, but it was not enough to overcome the Rafters big hitting night.

Chris Arroyo went 3-4 with one RBI and two runs scored for Wisconsin Rapids, hitting a solo home run in the game.

Cannon Restine (1-0) pickup up the win in relief, going two scoreless innings and striking out three.   Howell (2-1) took the loss for Green Bay.

The Rockers and Rafters will play again Wednesday night in Wisconsin Rapids, with the first pitch set for 6:35 p.m.

Jadher Areinamo’s eighteen game hitting streak ended on Saturday night.  The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers infielder started a new streak on Tuesday as he went 3-for-4 with three doubles and drove in all four runs in Wisconsin’s 4-0 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps at Neuroscience Group Field.

The Timber Rattlers (52-30 overall, 10-6 second half) took the lead in the bottom of the third.  Jheremy Vargas doubled to start the inning.  Areinamo, who had a double in the first inning, doubled with one out in the third to score Vargas for the 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Felix Valerio reached on a single.  Whitecaps starting pitcher Jaden Hamm walked the next two batters to load the bases for Areinamo.

Areinamo, who had been 0-for-7 with the bases loaded prior to Tuesday night, worked the count full and ripped another double to left.  This one scored all three runners to put the Rattlers up 4-0.  Areinamo became the first Wisconsin hitter to collect three doubles in a game since Joantgel Segovia on May 3, 2018 at Lake County.

West Michigan (41-41, 10-6) struggled all night against two Wisconsin pitchers.  Alexander Cornielle allowed two hits, hit two batters, and walked two while striking out six over five scoreless innings.  Patricio Aquino allowed three hits with no walks and five strikeouts over four innings to complete Wisconsin’s seventh shutout of the season.

The Whitecaps stranded eight runners but were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.

Cornielle earned his fifth win of the season and Aquino picked up his second save of the season.

The Timber Rattlers are a season-high 22 games over .500.

Game two of the series is Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Tate Kuehner (3-2, 3.35) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Joe Adametz (0-1, 4.82) is set to start for the Whitecaps.  Game time is 12:10pm CDT.

The Pittsburg Pirates treated the Milwaukee Brewers rudely Tuesday night with a 12-2 thrashing behind five home runs.

After the two teams exchanged two runs in the second inning, the Pirates exploded for six runs in the sixth inning.  Pirates catcher Joey Bart blasted a grand slam to break the game open.

The Brewer's pitching staff took a pounding as losing starter Colin Rea (8-3) gave up seven runs on six hits in five-plus innings of work.  Bryce Wilson and Hoby Milner each gave up solo home runs in their respective innings of pitching, and then Joel Payamps gave up three runs in the seventh inning.

The only Brewer “pitcher” not to give up any runs was infielder Jake Bauers, who came on in the ninth to save the bullpen arms.

William Contreras and Blake Perkins had the Brewers' only RBIs, as Milwaukee could only muster six hits against the Pirates' pitching staff.

Milwaukee (53-39) and Pittsburg (44-47) play game two of the series Wednesday night at 7:10 p.m. with Tobias Myers (5-3) taking the mound for the Brewers and Martin Perez (1-4) for the Pirates.

Three local alums are approaching the final week of fundraising for the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star games at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh next week.

Southern Door’s Will Jandrin will play for the North squad in the Small Schools game, while Gibraltar's Braden Sitte and Marshall Maltby will play for the South squad in the 8-man game. The games annually raise thousands of dollars for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, with each athlete required to raise $750. 

The Eight-Player All-Star game is scheduled for July 19 at 6 p.m., and the Small School All-Star game is scheduled for July 20 at noon.

The Green Bay Rockers had a slim lead wiped away by a three-run fifth inning in their 6-4 loss to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders Monday night in Ashwaubenon.

The Rockers scratched across runs in the first two innings thanks to a RBI single from Daalen Adderley in the first and a run-scoring single by Logan Gregorio in the second. It was 3-2 Dock Spiders when the Rockers retook the lead in the fourth with a pair of fielders' choice plays. The Dock Spiders would take the lead once more in the fifth inning, capping off a three-run frame with back-to-back homers from Preston Knott and Parker Knoll. The Rockers would leave five runners on the basepaths along the way to their fifth loss of the second half. Colton Sylvester took the loss for the Rockers, allowing three runs on three hits with a strikeout in the decisive fifth inning.

This past Saturday, the Door County Pickleball Club hosted its first full-court Singles Pickleball tournament in Sturgeon Bay at Sunset Park.

Pickleball players from all over the state and Minnesota competed for cash prizes for the top three places. Noah Hlavac from Stevens Point took first place with 109 points overall and received $100. Colin Chapman from Eau Claire took second place with 104 points and received $50. Nathan Gurgel from Manitowoc took third place with 103 points and received $30, and Erik Ost from Sturgeon Bay took fourth place with 83 points.

Jay Renstrom, President of the Door County Pickleball Club, mentioned, " This is the first time the Door County Pickleball Club hosted a full-court singles tournament with cash prizes. It was great to see the high-quality play and athleticism of all the participants battle it out for over three hours." The tournament brought in players from Minneapolis, Appleton, Menasha, Berlin, Neosho, Eau Claire, Stevens Point, Madison, and Sturgeon Bay to compete.

The Door County League entered its busiest week of the season with a lot of excitement on Sunday.

Alec Schartner’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the West Jacksonport Ports an exciting 4-3 win over the Egg Harbor Indians on Sunday afternoon.

Sister Bay scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning, but it was Kolberg who walked away with the 8-6 win on Sunday afternoon.

Maplewood scored the game's first six runs in a 10-5 win over Washington Island on the road Sunday afternoon.

On Friday, The Baileys Harbor A's scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning to steal a win away from the visiting Institute Cubs 8-7. 

The Door County League All-Stars will take on the Shoreland League All-Stars in an exhibition on Thursday at Joannes Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 7:15 p.m.

On Saturday, the Braves will make up its game against the Mets at 1:30 p.m. before a full slate of action on Sunday with the Braves traveling to Institute, Sister Bay hosting Baileys Harbor, the Ports visiting Maplewood, and the Islanders playing at the home of the Indians on 105.1 The GOAT.

Runners will have their choice of runs this weekend as the race season hits its summer peak this month.

In Luxemburg, the Kewaunee County Fair will hosts its annual Crown and Sash Dash on Saturday morning. The race begins at 8 a.m. and benefits the Kewaunee County Fair's Fairest of the Fair program.

In Brussels, the Brussels-Union EMRs will welcome runners for its Belgian Days Run. The 4M Run and 2M Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. with all proceeds benefitting the Brussels Union EMRs.

The Green Bay Rockers earned their first win of the second half on Sunday afternoon, beating the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 11-2.

Down 1-0 in the second inning, a single from Luke Moeller would make 2-1 in the frame before the Rockers scored single runs in the third and fifth innings to make it 4-1. The Rockers would pour it on late thanks to a three-run homer from Mulivai Levu in the seventh inning and four runs batted by Levu and Seth Farni in the eighth inning.

Lleyton Grubich earned the win for the Rockers, allowing one run on five hits across six innings while striking out six.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. after the Blizzard clinched the berth at their last home game on June 14th. Winning their final two games in Jacksonville this Saturday and in Sioux Falls on July 20th could lead to more playoff football at the Resch Center, with home-field advantage throughout the playoffs still possible.

The Luis Lara Game.  The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers centerfielder was 3-for-4 with two big hits late in the game to lead Wisconsin to a 6-5 win over the Beloit Sky Carp Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Lara’s eighth inning homer gave Wisconsin a 4-3 lead, but his heroics were needed again in the bottom of the ninth as his RBI single drove in the winning run for the Rattlers fifth walkoff win of the season.

Wisconsin (51-30 overall, 9-6 second half) scored in the first.  Luis Lara tripled to start the inning.  Matt Wood knocked in Lara with a sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead.  Wisconsin has outscored opponents 67-24 this season.

Joe Ross, Wisconsin’s starting pitcher who was on a rehabilitation assignment from the Milwaukee Brewers, retired the first four batters he faced.  Then, Beloit scratched out to infield singles that didn’t reach the infield dirt.  Cameron Barstad singled to left with the runners on base only moving up one base, but a bobble in left by Jheremy Vargas allowed a run to score to tie the game.

Tayden Hall doubled with two outs in the bottom of the second inning.  Eduarqui Fernández put the Rattlers back in front with a home run to the Left Field Lofts.  The home run was his seventh of the season.

Ross went back out for the top of the third and retired both batters he faced.  He tossed 34 pitches – with 26 strikes – and allowed an unearned run on three hits with no walks and a strikeout before leaving the game.

The Sky Carp (36-42, 6-9) scored a run against Yujanyer Herrera in the fourth inning on a two-out double by Brock Vradenburg and a single by Jake DeLeo.  That was the only run allowed by Herrera as he worked four innings, walked two, and struck out six as he turned a 3-2 lead over to the Wisconsin bullpen.

Aaron Rund, who earned a save in Beloit with two scoreless innings on Wednesday night at ABC Supply Stadium, walked the first two batters he faced in the top of the eighth inning.  DeLeo tied the game with a one-out single.  Rund worked through the rest of the inning stranding three runners to keep the game tied.

Lara made his presence known when he led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a long home run to the Home Run Porch in right field.  Lara’s first home run of the season gave Wisconsin a 4-3 lead.

Mark Manfredi entered the game for the top of the ninth trying for his first save. A walk, a strikeout, another walk, and a wild pitch put two runners in scoring position for the Sky Carp.  Tony Bullard drove in both runners with a double off the wall in left-center and Beloit retook the lead at 5-4.  Manfredi struck out the next two batters to send the game to the bottom of the ninth.

Hall started the rally with a single off Josh Ekness.  Vargas, who went 3-for-4 in the game, singled with one out to send Hall to third.  Vargas would steal second with Lara at the plate to set up the endgame.

Ekness threw a wild pitch to Lara that let Hall score the tying run and sent Vargas to third with the winning run.  Beloit brought their infield and outfield in to try to get Vargas at the plate.  Lara spoiled that strategy when he crushed a deep drive to right that hit off the middle of the wall for a walk-off, RBI single to cue the celebration for the home team.

Jadher Areinamo, who was on deck when Lara delivered the game-winning hit, went 0-for-4 on the night and saw his hitting streak end at eighteen games.

The Timber Rattlers are off until Tuesday when they start a series with the West Michigan Whitecaps at Neuroscience Group Field.  Alexander Cornielle (4-3, 3.10) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  The Whitecaps have named Jaden Hamm (3-2, 2.16) as their starter.  Game time on Tuesday is 6:40pm CDT.

It’s always fun to see the excitement when people are buying kayaks and looking forward to getting on the water and enjoying nature.  But an important consideration many may not think about is how will they get that kayak from home to the water?

The challenge isn’t as big with lighter sit-in touring and recreational kayaks, which are easy to load on one of the many roof-top rack systems out there.  Sit-on-top kayaks, which are usually wider and heavier are more challenging to transport. Add in the even heavier and wider self-propelled kayaks and the challenge is magnified.  Two people can sometimes handle most of the sit-on-top kayaks for roof-top transport with the proper roof-rack.  Much easier, especially if you are alone, is some sort of kayak trailer or a utility trailer that can easily be modified for kayaks.  These smaller/lighter trailers can be pulled by almost any vehicle. For the past 12 years I have been using a kayak trailer, which makes my kayak outings easier, whether fishing or just out enjoying nature. Nicely for storage my kayak trailer stows easily up against the garage wall taking up little space.

Another consideration is how to get the kayak from your vehicle to the water. Sometimes you can get right to the water to launch, but many times you will have to get from the parking area to the water. So, you should consider a small kayak cart which makes that last stretch from car to water much easier, especially if you are alone.

The Green Bay Rockers still can't buy a win in the second half of the season, losing to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 10-6 Saturday night.

The Rockers jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Jake Bold and Mateo Matthews homered in the second inning, but a collection of base hits helped the Rafters tie the game in the bottom of the third. The Rafters would score five more times in the next inning, capped off by a grand slam by Max Mcgwire. The two teams would trade runs with each other in the latter innings with the Rockers rallying for two runs in the top of the ninth inning. A bases-loaded hit by pitch and a Payton Mansfield single would bring the winning run to first base before Sam Miller grounded out to the pitcher to end the threat. 

The Rockers are 0-4 in the second half of the season and return home on Sunday to face the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders at 1:05 p.m.

The Egg Harbor Indians will travel to West Jacksonport on Sunday to play the Ports in Door County League baseball.

The Indians are coming off an 11-3 loss at home to Kolberg last Sunday.  Indians starter Joe Sawyer took the loss after he could not get out of the fourth inning, with Kolberg sending 10 batters to the plate. The Indians scored two runs in the seventh inning on Drew Price’s two-run single and Brady Kita’s RBI double.

West Jacksonport downed the Institute Cubs 6-0 on Sunday after the Friday night game was postponed.  Tanck, Schartner, and Luke Steebs combined to pitch the shutout, allowing just five hits while striking out nine. Brent Haberli and Caleb Hoffman each got two hits, while Frankie Ash had the other.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers grabbed an early lead with a run in the first inning against the Beloit Sky Carp Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  However, Johnny Olmstead hit a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the third to give the Sky Carp a lead they never lost on the way to a 5-1 victory over Wisconsin.

Eduardo Garcia put the Timber Rattlers (50-30 overall, 8-6 second half) up 1-0 with an RBI single to score Luis Lara from second base with one out in the bottom of the first inning.  Wisconsin has scored 66 runs in the first inning this season.

Beloit (36-41, 6-8) was quiet in the first two innings against Wisconsin starting pitcher Will Rudy, who retired all six hitters, including four via strikeout.

In the top of the third, Jake DeLeo doubled to lead off the frame.  Rudy hit Osiris Johnson with one out before getting the second out on a popup.  Then, Olmstead pounced on a 1-0 pitch from Rudy and hit a three-run home run for a 3-1 lead.

Wisconsin loaded the bases in the bottom of the third.  Jadher Areinamo doubled with one out to move his hitting streak to eighteen games.  Beloit starting pitcher Thomas White hit Garcia.  Then, he walked Matt Wood with two outs to load the bases.  White escaped the inning with a strikeout.  White retired the Rattlers in order in the fourth and fifth inning before turning the game over to his bullpen.

The Sky Carp Bullpen only allowed a hit and a walk over the final four innings and the Rattlers never had another runner get past first base in the game.

White walked two, struck out three, and picked up his first Midwest League win with his performance.

Rudy walked the lead-off batter in the top of the seventh inning before retiring the next batter and leaving the game.  He set a new professional single-game high with 6-1/3 innings pitched.  He allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out six.

The runner Rudy left on base when he left the game would come in to score later in the seventh inning on a two-run single by Cameron Barstad.  That put the Sky Carp up 5-1.

Areinamo’s eighteen-game hitting streak is the longest in the Midwest League this season.  It is also the longest by a Timber Rattlers hitter since David Fry had an eighteen-game hitting streak in 2019.  Areinamo was 1-for-4 on Friday night.  He is 29-for-69 (.

The final game of the series is Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Milwaukee Brewer Joe Ross is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin as he is set to make a rehabilitation start.  The Sky Carp have named Ike Buxton (2-6, 5.01) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

The Baileys Harbor A's scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning to steal a win away from the visiting Institute Cubs 8-7 Friday night.

The game was scoreless after two innings before the teams traded two-run frames in the third. The Cubs scored their runs on a sacrifice fly by Quin Schram and an RBI single by Caleb Hoffman, while the A's plated their runs via a Bryce Plzak triple and a run-scoring line out off the bat of Chris Lodl. The A's would take the lead in the next inning thanks to productive outs from Plzak and Lodl.

The A's pitching staff ran into self-inflicted problems in the seventh inning, issuing a hit-by-pitch and three bases-loaded walks to give the Cubs a 6-4 advantage. The Cubs would see their lead slip in the eighth inning when River Pawelski delivered an RBI single and a two-run, two-out hit from Elvis Torres to give the A's the lead. Hoffman would lead off the ninth with a single, but the Cubs could not mount a comeback to steal the game back from their hosts.

Torres led the A's with four hits and two RBI, while Plzak registered two RBI himself on a pair of hits. The Cubs received two-hit performances from Frankie, Jaeger Brusky, and Hoffman.

The ninth week of the Door County League baseball season will begin under the lights of Baileys Harbor when they host Institute Friday night.

Last Sunday, the Cubs could not get their offense going as West Jacksonport jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, taking the rain-delayed contest 6-0 in Institute. The Cubs were silenced by Tanck, Schartner, and Luke Steebs, who allowed just five hits while striking out nine. Brent Haberli and Caleb Hoffman each got two hits, while Frankie Ash had the other. Josh Pflieger took the loss for the Cubs, allowing all six runs (4 ER) across 5 2/3 innings while striking out three.

The A's allowed four runs in the first and ninth innings of their 11-1 loss to Maplewood last Sunday. It would be 4-0 Mets when the A's got their first run across when pitcher Jeremiah Jahnke mishandled a Cooper Cole groundball, bringing in Bryce Plzak. Cole had two hits to lead the A's. Danny Lodl took the loss, allowing six runs (5 ER) on three hits across four innings while striking out five.

First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Green Bay Rockers saw a 4-0 lead flip against them late as they lost a second straight game to the Wausau Woodchucks 8-7. 

A Jake Bold RBI single in the second and a three-run homer by Mateo Matthews in the third inning gave the Rockers the early advantage. The Woodchucks registered single tallies in the fourth and sixth innings before scoring two runs in each of the last three innings to swipe the win away from the host Rockers. A solo shots Luke Moeller, Bold, and Lukas Torres were the lone rebuttals the Rockers could muster to drop their second straight game to the Woodchucks and their fourth straight of the week.

The Rockers will try again on Friday in Wisconsin Rapids at 6;35 p.m.

A field of over 1200 people found themselves all chasing one man in Thursday's Hairpin 5K Run in Fish Creek.

Chicago's Jack Aho won the race with a time of 14:30, more than 90 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Jack Fitzpatrick of Barrington, Ill. The top five finishers all broke 17 minutes, and the top 10 broke 18 minutes for the 3.1 mile race. 

Sturgeon Bay's Benjamin Grota was the top local finisher with a time of 18:03, which was good for 12th overall.

Luke Adams cracked his second grand slam home run of the season for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to send the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 9-0 victory over the Beloit Sky Carp on Thursday night in front of 4,936 fans at Neuroscience Group Field.

Jadher Areinamo wasted no time in doing two things: Extending his hitting streak to seventeen games and giving the Timber Rattlers (50-29 overall, 8-5 second half) a lead.  Areinamo crushed the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the first inning from Karson Milbrandt for a solo home run to left.  Areinamo has seven homers this season and is tied for the longest hitting streak in the Midwest League this season.

Wisconsin added to their lead in the third inning.  A walk and two singles loaded the bases for Luke Adams.  Then, Adams unloaded on a pitch from Karson Milbrandt.  The Wisconsin slugger lined a 1-0 pitch into the Left Field Lofts for his second grand slam of the season and a 5-0 lead.  Adams is the team-leader in home runs for the Rattlers with eight.

The Timber Rattlers poured on the offense with three more runs in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Eduarqui Fernández and a two-run single by Luis Lara.

Beloit (35-41 5-8) had a threat against Fitzpatrick in the top of the fifth inning.  The Wisconsin lefty struck out the first two batters he faced before issuing a walk and giving up a pair of singles to load the bases.  Fitzpatrick got out of the inning on a fly out to give him five scoreless innings.

Fitzpatrick set a new single-game high as a professional for strikeouts with seven.  He walked one and allowed three hits to set himself up for his third win of the season.

Wisconsin added one more run in the bottom of the fifth when Adams, who had walked earlier in the inning, scored from third on a balk.

Bayden Root took over for Fitzpatrick in the top of the sixth inning and gave up consecutive singles to put runners on the corners with no outs.  Root kept the shutout alive with a strikeout and a 4-6-3 double play.  He would add a scoreless seventh inning.

Tyler Wehrle got the final six outs for the Timber Rattlers to make it two straight shutouts over their in-state rivals.  Wisconsin beat Beloit 2-0 at ABC Supply Stadium on Wednesday night.

Adams is the first Timber Rattler to hit two grand slams in one season since Will Clarke hit two during the 2022 season.

The Rattlers are 21 games over .500 for the first time this season.  This is the first time Wisconsin has been 21 games over .500 since they were 55-34 after a 5-3 win at Lake County on July 12, 2012.

Game two of the series is Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Will Rudy (2-5, 5.34) is set to start for the Timber Rattlers.  Thomas White (0-2, 2.37) has been named as the starter for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

The Green Bay Rockers could not get the bats going to open the second half of their season with an 8-1 loss to the Wausau Woodchucks.

The Rockers were down 4-0 when Cooper Kelly registered the lone RBI with a single to center to bring in Sam Miller. It was one of his two hits and seven total for the Rockers in the loss. 

Henry Chabot saw his record drop to 1-6 on the season after allowing four runs on four hits in three innings of work.

The two teams face each other again at 1:05 p.m. Thursday.

K.C. Hunt became the first Wisconsin Timber Rattlers pitcher to reach double digits in strikeouts in a game this season as he struck out ten over 5-1/3 shutout innings to earn the win in Wisconsin’s 2-0 victory over the Beloit Sky Carp on Wednesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.

Jadher Areinamo gave the Timber Rattlers (49-29 overall, 7-5 second half) the lead and extended his hitting streak to sixteen games with one swing of the bat in the third inning.  Areinamo launched a 2-0 pitch from Noble Meyer to the Beloit bullpen in left field for a solo homer.  Areinamo went 2-for-4 on Wednesday night and is 26-for-61 (.426) during the second-longest hitting streak by a Timber Rattler since the team moved up to the High-A classification for the 2021 season.

Wisconsin added to their lead in the fifth inning.  Felix Valerio singled, stole second, and stole third.  Meyer walked Jheremy Vargas with one out and that was all for the Beloit starter.  Reliever Kyle Crigger entered the game for the Sky Carp to face Eduardo Garcia, who grounded into a force play at second to score Valerio for a 2-0 lead.

The Sky Carp (35-40, 5-7) got their only hit off Hunt in the fifth inning when Tony Bullard singled to start the frame.  Hunt got the next batter to ground into a double play.  Then, he struck out the final batter of the fifth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Hunt went back out for one more batter and he struck out Chase Luttrell to become the first Wisconsin pitcher to record ten strikeouts in a game since Edwin Jimenez had ten punchouts against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on July 30, 2023.  Hunt walked two, allowed one hit, and put himself in line for his third win as a Rattler as he turned the game over to the Wisconsin bullpen.

Stiven Cruz took over for Hunt and got the final two outs of the sixth.  In the seventh, Cruz struck out the first two batters before a walk, a single by Bullard, and another walk loaded the bases with two outs.  Cruz would escape the jam with a weak grounder back to him to strand all three runners as he threw to first for the final out.

Aaron Rund, Wisconsin’s second reliever of the game, ramped up the drama a little in the bottom of the eighth after allowing a lead-off single and a one-out walk.  He got a flyout to left for the second out.  Then, Rund struck out Josh Zamora, who had been named the Midwest League Player of the Month for June earlier today, to end the threat.

There was no drama in the bottom of the ninth.  Rund pitched a perfect inning for his third save.  He struck out Jake DeLeo to end the game to give Wisconsin pitchers fourteen strikeouts in the game and the Timber Rattlers a 2-1 series victory against their in-state rivals.

The teams move to Neuroscience Group Field on Thursday to start a three-game series.  Game one features Brian Fitzpatrick (2-1, 3.60) as the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Karson Milbrandt (1-3, 3.43) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association announced the hiring of Chad Schultz as an assistant director on the executive staff last month. He will assume his role at the organization’s headquarters in Stevens Point on July 15, 2024.

“I am excited and humbled for this opportunity to join the association, one that has such a rich and storied history,” Schultz said.  “I am anxiously waiting to get to work and start serving the membership.  Interscholastic athletics play such a pivotal role in the educational experience for our state's students, and I am excited to help make a positive impact and work to continue to improve the overall experience.”  

Schultz’s responsibilities will include the administration, coordination of duties and tournament planning for the sports assigned, as well as other administrative duties, including licensed officials oversight.

“Chad brings a wide variety of athletics and officiating experiences to our WIAA team,” Executive Director Stephanie Hauser said. “The addition of his expertise, talent and broad perspective will enrich the quality of services our staff is able to provide for our membership.”

Schultz has been employed at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 2013. Most recently, he has held the position of Associate Director of Facility Services since 2021. In his role, he was responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of all UW Recreation & Wellbeing facilities, totaling over 600,000 square feet and over 60 acres of outdoor recreational space. He was also responsible for the operating and capital project budgets of more than $6 million annually.

He has managed UW’s Recreation & Wellbeing work order and asset management systems and implemented continual improvements to workflow efficiency and effectiveness. In addition, Schultz served on the core planning team for the design, construction and opening of the Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center in 2023. 

Additional efforts as associate director included coordinating Recreation & Wellness with Facilities Planning & Management to address improvement and maintenance projects as well as equipment needs. In his position, he oversaw the hiring, supervision and coordination of job assignments for nearly 80 employees.

Prior to his most recent role, Schultz served as the Assistant Director of Instructional and Inclusive Programs from 2016-21, directing non-credit instructional programs and activities for students and other members of the UW community.

Among his duties were leading the Divisional Internship Program, creating leadership and professional development curriculum for the Professional Internship Seminar Series, managing internship projects encompassing recreational sports programming, creating a budget for instructional programs, implementing summer camps with 430 participants, and conducting the Rec Well Leadership Summit.

Schultz also assisted and provided input in the design of a $94 million, 240,000 square foot facility featuring eight full-size basketball courts, an Olympic length pool and dive well, over 30,000 square feet of dedicated fitness space and five multiple purpose rooms. He also supervised members of the Student Recreation Leadership Council.

His first position at UW was Coordinator of Competitive Sports for the university’s Recreational Sports Department where he managed the operation of the Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs program, which served the university community of 43,000 students.

Among his roles as coordinator, he hired, trained, scheduled, evaluated staff and over 200 sport officials and scorekeepers. He managed the Intramural Sports and Sport Club program budget, and he coordinated the operations of 45 sport club organizations, supervised seasonal practice and competitions for 17 programs and developed policies and procedures of the Sport Clubs and Intramural Sports Handbook. Schultz also served as advisor to the Badger Student Officials Association, a recognized student organization that focuses on the development of student officials, and he was instrumental in fundraising sponsorships and campaigns.

Schultz served as graduate assistant in Intramural Sports and received a master’s degree in Education, Higher Education Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2013.  His duties included recruiting, training and supervision of a student staff of assistants and officials; administering individual and team sports activities and events; developing a technology-based officials and staff training format; and directing intramural tournaments.

Schultz received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, General Management from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2011. He served as Student Coordinator of Officials and Evaluations intern in the office of Recreation Sports and Facilities from 2009-11, and he gained experience in conducting sport events and tournaments as well as recruiting, training and scheduling sport officials.

In addition to his professional experience, Schultz has served on many administrative committees, participated and presented at many sports-related conferences and leadership programs, and has officiated and directed many extramural tournaments throughout the country. He also possesses numerous sports certifications and has belonged to a number of service associations, including having served as a WIAA-licensed official in baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball and volleyball.

Originally from Winneconne, Wis., Schultz and his spouse, Mallory, have two children, Allison, 5, and Thomas, 2.

The WIAA, as defined by its Constitution, is a voluntary, unincorporated, and nonprofit organization. The membership oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 513 senior high schools and 43 junior high/middle level schools in its membership.

In a slugfest, the Green Bay Rockers defeated the Battle Creek Battle Jacks 13-11 on the road Tuesday night. 

The Rocker exploded for seven runs in the third inning to take a 9-2 lead and hung on for the victory.

Taylor Schultz, Mateo Matthews, and Seth Farni all had three hits apiece to lead the Rockers who hammered out 17 hits in the win.  Lukes Torres added a two-RBI double for  Green Bay. 

Mikel Howell (2-0) picked up the win for the Rockers while Mack Crowley got his first save of the season.

The Rockers host the Wausau Woodchucks tonight at home starting at 6:35 p.m.  

The Milwaukee Brewers scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning and rallied to top the Colorado Rockies 4-3 on Tuesday night.   Rhys Hoskins was hit on a two-strike offering with two outs and the bases loaded to give the Brewers the lead in the ninth. 

The Rockies took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning off Brewer reliever Bryan Hudson, who had been untouchable most of the season.

Milwaukee started the ninth with Andruw Monasterio and Brice Turang reaching base, with William Contreras following with a pop-out.  Christian Yelich then had an infield single to load the bases for Willy Adames, who hit a sac fly to tie the game at 3-3.  After Garrett Mitchell walked, Rockies’ closer Justin Lawrence hit Hoskins on an 0-2 pitch to give the Brewers the 4-3 lead.

Brewer closer Trevor Megill, picked up the save in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the win for Milwaukee.

Both teams will play game three of the four-game series Wednesday night at 7:40 p.m., with Colin Rea (7-2) getting the start for the Brewers (51-35) and Dakota Hudson (2-11) on the mound for the Rockies. 

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers dropped a rain-shortened game to the Beloit Sky Carp Tuesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Beloit plated their last five runs of the game on three different two-out singles to defeat Wisconsin 7-3.

The Timber Rattlers (48-29 overall, 6-5 second half) loaded the bases in the top of the first inning.  Gregory Barrios and Jadher Areinamo singled with one out.  Luke Adams was hit by a pitch.  Matt Wood knocked in Barrios with a grounder to third for the 1-0 lead.

Barrios and Areinamo teamed up to steal another run for the Rattlers in the third inning.  The duo had back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners.  Areinamo stole second and drew a throw.  Barrios broke for the plate and scored without a play for a 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Tate Kuehner was cruising through the first three innings.  He had allowed one hit and one walk with four strikeouts over the first three frames.  However, Beloit (35-39, 5-6) got to him in the fourth.

Kuehner issued walks to Johnny Olmstead and Mark Coley II to start the inning.  Then, Josh Zamora hit a line drive to third.  Eduardo Garcia made a diving attempt and the ball deflected off his glove to short.  Barrios fielded the ball after changing directions and had a play at third on Olmstead, who had frozen at second on the line drive.  However, Barrios’s throw was off line and Olmstead scored while Coley and Zamora ended the play in scoring position.

Brock Vradenburg, who had been called up to Beloit earlier in the day, followed with a single to center to score Coley with the tying run.

Kuehner got the next two outs with a ground out and a strikeout.  He appeared to be on the verge of getting out of the inning.  Sam Praytor spoiled that idea with a two-out, two-run single to give the Sky Carp a 4-2 lead.

Barrios and Areinamo had consecutive singles with one out in the sixth to set up the third Wisconsin run.  The duo pulled off another double steal to get the tying runs into scoring position.  Tayden Hall got Barrios across the plate with a grounder to first, but that was as close as the Rattlers would get.  Not, however, for lack of opportunity.

In the top of the sixth inning, Jesús Chirinos singled with one out and an error on what could have been an inning-ending double play ball put two runners on to chase Beloit starter Emmett Olson from the game.

Josh White relieved Olson and got the second out with a strikeout before hitting Lara to load the bases for Barrios.  White retired Barrios on a flyout to center to strand the runners.  Barrios, who had four hits on Monday night, is 7-for-9 in the series with six runs scored.

In the seventh, Hall walked and stole second with one out before White struck out the next two batters to hold the lead.  Wisconsin stranded nine runners in the game and went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

The Sky Carp added three insurance runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh against Chase Costello.  The bases were loaded with one out on a double, a hit batsman, and a walk.  Costello struck out Vradenburg for the second out and was up 0-2 on Tony Bullard.

Bullard lined the next pitch to left for a two-run single.  Jake DeLeo followed with an RBI single on a 2-2 pitch and Beloit was up 7-3 just as rain started falling over the stadium.

The Rattlers went down in order in their half of the eighth.  The Snappers put the first two runners on base in the bottom of the eighth before the rain was falling too hard for the game to continue and the tarp was placed on the field.

Wisconsin’s five-game winning streak and Beloit’s six-game losing streak both ended when the game was ruled a completed contest.

One streak that continued is Areinamo’s hitting streak.  He is on a fifteen-game hitting streak after going 3-for-4 on Tuesday night.  Areinamo is 24-for-57 (.421) during the streak to raise his average from .286 to .311.

The final game of the series at ABC Supply Stadium is Wednesday night.  K.C. Hunt (2-1, 3.10) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Noble Meyer (0-1, 4.50) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 6:35pm. 

The Door County League announced their roster on Monday for the upcoming All-Star Game against the Shoreland All-Stars next week at Green Bay's Joannes Park.

The team, led by Matt Ash (Egg Harbor), Tom Demmin (DCL Vice President) and John Sawyer (DCL President), will feature 14 of the league's top hitters and seven of its best pitchers. The roster is as follows:

The Green Bay Gamblers were well-represented during the NHL Draft last weekend.

The Gamblers had five former and current players get drafted by NHL teams, though some of them still may fulfill their junior and college hockey commitments before heading to their respective pro teams. Artyom Levshunov, the number 2 draft pick by the Chicago Blackhawks, is highest drafted Gamblers player in team history. A pair of four-run innings late put Monday's game out of reach for the Green Bay Rockers as they lost 12-4 to the Battle Creek Jacks on the road.

Trailing 3-0 halfway through the game, Seth Farni tied the game with a three-run homer run in the fifth inning. The Jacks would immediately answer, retaking the lead in the fifth inning before scoring four runs in the sixth and seventh innings. A solo shot by Nick Harms would be the lone rebuttal the Rockers would muster the rest of the way as their Michigan struggles continued. 

The two teams meet again Tuesday night in Battle Creek before returning home for a pair of games at home over the holiday.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers did not have a case of the Mondays.  In the only Monday game on the Midwest League schedule, Wisconsin cruised to an 11-1 victory over the Beloit Sky Carp at ABC Supply Stadium.  Gregory Barrios led the sixteen-hit attack with four hits as three Rattlers pitchers combined to hold the Sky Carp to one unearned run on two hits.

Wisconsin (48-28 overall, 6-4 second half) scored twice in the top of the first inning as they loaded the bases with one out.  Tayden Hall knocked in the first run with a single.  Eduardo Garcia made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.  The Timber Rattlers have scored 63 runs in the first inning this season.

Beloit (34-39, 4-6) loaded the bases on three walks, two with two outs, in the bottom of the first inning before starter Mark Manfredi got the final out of the inning on a flyout deep to right field.  Wisconsin has only allowed 24 runs in the first inning this season.

Luke Adams stepped to the plate with two runners on and no outs in the top of the third inning.  Beloit starting pitcher Jacob Miller grooved a 3-1 pitch and Adams hit the ball out of the stadium to left field for a three-run home run and a 5-0 lead.  Adams leads Wisconsin in homers with seven.

The Timber Rattlers poured on the offense in the top of the fourth inning.  The first three batters reached on a walk and two singles to load the bases.  Barrios and Matt Wood, who had three hits, followed with consecutive RBI singles to chase Miller from the game. 

Edgar Sanchez took over for Miller and allowed two runs to score on back-to-back force plays at second on grounder by Adams and Hall.  Wisconsin tacked on one more run in the inning when Hall scored on a wild pitch for a 10-0 lead.

Manfredi left the game after retiring the first two batters of the second inning.  Tyler Wehrle took over and retired all four batters he faced.  Then, Patricio Aquino took the hill for the Rattlers in the bottom of the fourth.

Aquino retired the first nine batters he faced before walking Jorge Caballero to open the bottom of the seventh inning.  That snapped a streak of sixteen Beloit hitters retired in a row.  Aquino got the next batter before Carlos Santiago grounded into an inning-ending double play.

There were a pair of spectacular plays by the Wisconsin defense that kept the no-hitter intact through the first seven innings.  Second baseman Eduardo Garcia made a sliding stop on a grounder up the middle off the bat of Tony Bullard in the fourth inning.   Luis Lara made a diving catch in center to get Josh Zamora for the final out of the sixth.

Sam Praytor spoiled Wisconsin’s bid for its first no-hitter since June 10, 2021 with a lead-off single on the first pitch from Aquino in the bottom of the eighth inning.  An error on a grounder off the bat of Cameron Barstad put runners at the corners with no outs.  Then, Mark Coley II sent a weak grounder to short.  The Rattlers got the out at second but could not turn two as the speedy Coley beat the relay throw to first to allow Praytor to score.

Beloit would threaten to score in the ninth after a single by Jorge Caballero and a hit batsman by Aquino.  A flyout and back-to-back strikeouts closed out the game for Wisconsin’s fifth win in a row.

Aquino allowed one unearned run on two hits with two walks and six strikeouts to earn his third win of the season to help the Timber Rattlers reach a season-high twenty games over .500.  Wisconsin has outscored their opponents 32-5 during their five-game winning streak.

The Sky Carp have lost six games in a row.

Game two of the series at ABC Supply Stadium is Tuesday night.  Tate Kuehner (3-1, 2.88) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Beloit has named Emmett Olson (2-3, 3.24) as their starter.  Game time is 6:35pm.

Door County League teams and their fans were treated to a sun-splashed afternoon on Sunday.

Behind three home runs on a sun-filled day at Egg Harbor Ballpark, the Kolberg Braves powered past the Egg Harbor Indians 11-3 in Door County League baseball on Sunday afternoon.

The Maplewood Mets bookended their afternoon with four-run innings to beat Baileys Harbor 11-1 at home on Sunday.

West Jacksonport  jumped out to 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back as they took the rain-delayed contest 6-0 Sunday afternoon in Institute.

Sister Bay beat Washington Island on the road 4-1.

The Green Bay Glory ended their 2024 season with a 3-1 win over Chicago Kics Sunday afternoon.

The Glory scored less than 10 minutes into the game and held onto the lead until the break. Maria Sorensen took advantage of a misplay in the box for the Glory's second goal in the 58th minute. The Kics would score a couple minutes later, but the Glory would stretch the lead back out to two when Mia Lemkuil headed home a cross in the 83rd minute to capture the victory.

They end their season 4-3-0 in the WPSL, finishing a distant second to Milwaukee Torrent in the standings. 

Four errors and 13 hits were a recipe for disaster for the Green Bay Rockers on Sunday, losing to the Royal Oak Leprechauns 9-7.

The Rockers had a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning before the Leprechauns scored at least two runs in the following three innings, including three in the fifth and sixth frames. The Rockers had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the eighth, but Mateo Matthews struck out to end the threat.

Lane Allen led all Rockers hitters with four hits and two RBI on the day. Seth Farni had two hits, while Jake Bold also had a multi-RBI game with two. Three of the four Rockers pitchers gave up at least three runs in limited innings, with Nainoa Cardinez suffering the worst fate as he gave up his three runs on four hits in only 2/3 innings.

The Rockers continue their Michigan residency on Monday with a trip to Battle Creek.

Alexander Cornielle pitched six scoreless innings and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers mustered just enough offense for a 2-1 victory over the South Bend Cubs Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field. The win was the fourth straight for the Timber Rattlers to give them a 4-2 series victory over the Cubs.

Luis Lara started the Wisconsin half of the first inning with a double.  He moved to third on a passed ball.  Jadher Areinamo drove in Lara with a grounder to short for the 1-0 lead.

Cornielle retired the first nine batters he faced before Brett Bateman reached on an error to start the top of the fourth.  Bateman was running on an 0-2 pitch when Ed Howard hit a line drive right at Luke Adams at third base.  Bateman was doubled off first base easily for the second out.  The Cubs put the next three batters on base with two singles and a walk before Cornielle preserved the lead with a three-pitch strikeout.

Areinamo moved his hitting streak to fourteen games with a single to start the Rattlers fourth inning.  Luke Adams followed with a single and Matt Wood walked to load the bases.  Tayden Hall drove Areinamo home with a grounder and the Rattlers (47-28 overall, 5-4 second half) were up 2-0.

South Bend (31-44, 4-5) only had one more baserunner against Cornielle.  Bateman bunted for a hit to start the sixth inning.  He was running again, this time with one out, on a pitch to Jefferson Rojas.  Shortstop Gregory Barrios made a leaping grab of the line drive for the second out.  Then, Barrios jogged over to tag Bateman for the final out of the inning.

Cornielle allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out five over his six shutout innings to put himself in line for his fourth win of the season.

The Cubs got on the scoreboard against Stiven Cruz in the seventh inning.  Jonathan Long singled and moved to second on a grounder.  Ethan Hearn drove in Long with a two-out single to cut Wisconsin’s lead to one run.

Aaron Rund was called into the game for the top of the eighth inning and he worked around a one-out single and a two-out walk by striking out Long for the final out.

In the ninth, Parker Chavers flyball to shallow left was dropped by Barrios to allow Chavers to take second to start the inning.  Rund got a strikeout and a ground out to the right side.  Chavers was on third as the tying run with two outs and Rund ended the game with his third strikeout of the game for his second save of the season.

Areinamo is 21-53 during his fourteen-game hitting streak, the longest by a Timber Rattlers this season.  It is the longest hitting streak by a Wisconsin player since LG Castillo had a fifteen-game hitting streak in the 2021 season from June 16 to July 10.
 

Wisconsin is back in action on Monday night with a game at ABC Supply Stadium against the Beloit Sky Carp.  Mark Manfredi (4-2, 4.04) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Jacob Miller (3-3, 2.72) is set to start for Beloit.  Game time is 6:35pm.
