Southern Door dominates on the the diamond

Both Southern Door's baseball and softball teams picked up a victory on Saturday in Green Bay. In games originally supposed to be played in Brussels, Green Bay NEW Lutheran and Southern Door agreed to move these two games to Green Bay. The location didn't matter for either sport as the Eagle baseball team took care of business 9-4, while the softball team won in five innings over the Blazers 21-2.

Go to the Southern Door page at DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com for a full recap of both games.

Yelich sets record in Brewers win

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 at Miller Park Saturday night. Brandon Woodruff started out on the bump for Milwaukee. He faced off against Dakota Hudson for the Cardinals. Both teams were represented well as Miller Park was packed once again this opening series. It was still a tad bit chilly out so the roof was closed.

Christian Yelich started off the game with another homer to left field to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead. He is the first Milwaukee player to hit a homer in each of the teams three games to open a season. Travis Shaw followed that up in the third with a solo shot of his own. Mike Moustakas wanted in on the action as well so he hit a two-run shot in the same inning. Milwaukee would hold a 4-2 lead after five innings.

Brandon Woodruff came out humming against the tough Cardinal lineup. He went five innings only giving up two earned runs to go along with five strikeouts on the night. Junior Guerra was the next man up out of the bullpen for Milwaukee. He threw one scoreless inning before handing the ball over to Alex Claudio and Alex Wilson. They handled the seventh and eighth with ease.

Josh Hader got a standing ovation on his way in to close out the ninth. He continued his dominant form as he finished off the Cardinals with an immaculate inning. Nine pitches to earn him three strikeouts. That gives Milwaukee a 2-1 series lead going into Sunday's contest.

The Brewers and Cardinals will now run it back Sunday at 1:10. Corbin Burnes will take his turn in the rotation for Milwaukee. He will be facing Michael Wacha in what figures to be a thrilling finish to this opening series.

Setting the record straight regarding Athletic Trainers

Sometimes the right decision is the most difficult decision. At times, athletic trainers have to make a decision to take a star athlete out of a game. While the decision may be unpopular, Door County Medical Center Athletic Trainer Alyssa Lee says she always keeps the student-athlete and their health as the only deciding factor.

During National Athletic Trainer Month, Alyssa Lee would like to set the record straight as to what an athletic trainer is and does.

Lee went to UW LaCrosse and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training and a Master of Science degree in clinical exercise physiology from UW River Falls.

She says seeing a student-athlete recover completely after a major injury and competing again is one of the most rewarding aspects of athletic training.

Lee and the entire team of Door County Medical Center athletic trainers are committed to keeping student-athletes safe, helping prevent injuries, and will do their best to make the right decision regarding injury or treatment, even when the decision may not be what a player, coach or parent may want in the middle of a big game, meet or competition.

Goldschmidt powers Cardinals past the Brewers

The Brewers dropped the second game of the season on Friday 9-5 thanks to the heroics of the Cardinals' First Baseman Paul Goldschmidt. He hit three home runs for St. Louis in just his second ever game with the club. Goldschmidt got the scoring going in the first inning when he hit a two-run homer off Freddy Peralta. The 22-year-old Peralta would only last three innings allowing four runs.

Ryan Braun tied the game at 3 in the third inning with a three-run homer. The teams traded runs in the fourth and the Cardinals went up for good when Goldschmidt hit his second homer, a solo shot in the 6th. He added a third with a two-run homer in the seventh.

Christian Yelich continued his hot streak from the end of last season by homering for the second day in a row. His shot in the eighth cut the Cardinal lead to 9-5 but it was too little too late for the Brewers as that ended up being the final score.

The Cardinals and Brewers will continue their four-game series on Saturday at Miller Park, first pitch at 3:10 PM. Brandon Woodruff will start on the mound for Milwaukee against Dakota Hudson.

Kewaunee and Sevastopol both participate in track and field meet at Stevens Point

The Kewaunee and Sevastopol track and field teams both put up good performances at the Rosholt/Badger Invitational at UW-Stevens Point on Friday. Boys and girls teams both participated. Some of the top performers were Max Hanrahan and Nick Bumgartner for Kewaunee, while Sevastopol's Olivia Stenzel and Mya Ploor both had multiple top-ten finishes.

Five score in double figures for the Phoenix

The UW-Green Bay men's basketball team is now two wins away from the CollegeInsider.com Tournament Championship. Five Phoenix players scored in double-figures on Friday night as they knocked off California State University, Bakersfield 80-65 at the Kress Center. Sandy Cohen III put up 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals on the night. Bakersfield's Ricky Holden led all scorers with 18 points.

UW-Green Bay will now move on to the CIT semifinals where they will take on Texas Southern at home on Tuesday. The Tigers needed three overtimes to win at Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday to advance. It will be the first time in the program's 50-year history that the Phoenix will be playing a game in April.

Athletic trainer Tia Jackson returning the favor

DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com is starting a series dedicated to the continued safety of our student-athletes on the field, at practice and in preparation for competition. Door County Medical Center provides athletic trainers to the four local schools, a service that ensures the student-athletes receive top tier care during all sports seasons.

Licensed Athletic Trainer Tia Jackson had the opportunity to work with Sturgeon Bay’s fall sports athletes. She is also Clinical Athletic Trainer. While Jackson loves the clinical training and rehab, Jackson also enjoys covering all four local high schools. She says the most rewarding part of her job is seeing an injured student-athlete make a full recovery.

Tia Jackson, formerly Tia Jandrin knows all about the long road to recovery after an injury. As a freshman at Southern Door, Tia started experiencing patellar dislocations. Then sophomore year, she tore her ACL and MCL in basketball. Her high school athletic trainer Holly Ray made the world of difference for her and she wants to do the same for the next generation of student-athletes in Door County.

Tia Jackson earned has a bachelor of science in athletic training and a master of science in clinical and translational rehabilitation science with an emphasis on biomechanics and a teaching certificate from Marquette University.

Brewers win dramatic home opener

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 at Miller Park in their home opener. It was a game that couldn't have been scripted better with excitement from start to finish. The Brewers welcomed back Rollie Fingers and Robin Yount to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Ryan Braun and Christian Yelich were on the receiving end of those pitches. All four players have formerly one an MVP award with Milwaukee.

St. Louis got out to an early lead with two homers in the second to give them a 3-0 advantage. The Brewers quickly answered back with a solo shot in the bottom half of the second by Mike Moustakas. Christian Yelich picked up right where he left off when he ripped a three-run shot to center in the third. Miller Park went crazy when it happened.

Jhoulys Chacin surprised the 45,000 people on hand with a solo shot of his own in the fifth to give Milwaukee a 5-3 lead at the time. That effort helped him secure his first win of the season. Josh Hader would come in the final two innings to shut the door on the Cardinals. Not without some dramatics though. In the final at bat of the game, Hader gave up a deep fly that nearly sent this game into extra innings. Lorenzo Cain made a catch that will forever be remembered. Robbing the Cardinals of the game-tying home run. Hader picked up his first save of the season thanks to Cain.

The Brewers and Cardinals will now run it back tomorrow night at 7:10. Freddy Peralta will take his turn in the rotation for Milwaukee. He will be facing Jack Flaherty in what should be another awesome matchup between these two heavyweight teams.

Gibraltar coach brings camps to Northern Door

Getting aspiring players to high-quality basketball camps during the offseason is a challenge for many in northern Door County, so Gibraltar head boys’ basketball coach Justin Burress did something about it. Enter Max Level Hoops, Burress’ growing endeavor that partners with coaches from the Packerland Conference and the college ranks along with ex-players like former Wisconsin standout Brian Butch. With eight different camps set for this year, Burress says the camps he helps puts on makes getting on the court easier for those who cannot make or afford basketball camps hosted farther away.

The date of Butch’s basketball camps is May 18th while Burress’ Max Level Hoops sessions are June 22nd, July 13th, and August 17th. You can find more information about these camps online with this story.

Baseball, softball try for games Thursday

Derik Hawkey steps down as Southern Door boys basketball coach

Southern Door varsity boys basketball coach Derik Hawkey will not be back on the sidelines for the Eagles next season. The announcement comes after a 2018-2019 campaign that included the end of a 40 consecutive win streak within Packerland Conference. Hawkey led the Eagles to four of their five straight conference championships. Hawkey confirmed the news Wednesday but wanted to let the dust settle before conducting an on-air interview.

As a player, Derik Hawkey is one of the top three all-time scorers. His pupil Kyle Daoust passed him on the all-time list in the postseason last month. Hawkey and Daoust each sit behind Nathan Vogel as the all-time leading scorer.

Parents and players have said what makes Derik such a great coach for Southern Door is that many of his players watched Hawkey star in Eagle Gymnasium when they were in elementary school. He related to the players in so many ways and all-time great Eagles like Daoust, Derik LeCaptain, Nick LeCaptain and Mitchell Gerend have all praised coach Hawkey in past interviews on DoorCountyDailyNews.com. Former Eagles coaches like Ben Rikkola and Josh Rankin have also said tremendous things about Hawkey as well.

The Eagles will certainly miss having Derik Hawkey on the sidelines next year.

Luxemburg-Casco track anxious to get outside

The distance athletes have been able to get outside, but others on Luxemburg-Casco’s track team are ready to take advantage of the nice weather. While they have waited for the snow and ice to disappear, the Spartans track team has been spread out around the school to get their workouts. Head coach Neil Seering told DoorCountyDailyNews.com’s Paul Schmitt during Wednesday’s L-C Spring Sports Preview that the team is ready to get outside.

The Spartans still have at least one more indoor meet before the outdoor season takes over as they face Chilton, Clintonville, Denmark,  Peshtigo, and  Seymour this afternoon at 4 p.m. at Seymour.

Brewers 2019 season preview

This could be the year!

The Milwaukee Brewers wrapped up their final exhibition game Tuesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays. The score didn't matter but Corbin Burnes looked really sharp. He tossed nearly four innings of shutout ball with five strikeouts in what was his final tuneup before being unleashed against the Cardinals.

Milwaukee will open up at home against the rival Cardinals on Thursday. Both teams are projected to be forces in the National League this year. First pitch will be thrown out at 1:10 PM from Miller Park. Jhoulys Chacin, who took the ball in most of the high leverage games last year, will toe the rubber in the home opener. Miles Mikolas will look to play spoiler for the Cardinals.

So how are the Brewers sitting entering the 2019 season? First, the bad. The Brewers will open the season with three of their key hurlers on the DL. Jimmy Nelson and Jeremy Jeffress will be eased back within the first month or two. While Corey Knebel looks to be out an extended amount time with an elbow injury.

The good? Milwaukee's starting pitching is chucked full of young, talented arms. Freddy Peralta, Brandon Woodruff, and Corbin Burnes will follow Chacin in the rotation. All are under the age of 26. It will be fun to watch them grow this year. This group could be special.

When it comes to position players, the Brewers could not be stronger and healthier entering the season. A talented lineup from last year got even better this offseason when the team added one of the premier catchers in the game. Yasmani Grandal offers Milwaukee a switch hitting option with plus power from the left-hand side of the plate. They also retained Mike Moustakas who was a fan favorite and a big key in their run last year.

This could be the year! Craig Counsell has a plethora of options to deploy on a daily basis. Upper management has opened the wallet this offseason and is all in on this group. It's a new wave of Milwaukee baseball. So hop on board and I'll be your guide through this 2019 season covering Brewers games from Door and Kewaunee Counties and from Miller Park.

Luxemburg-Casco girls soccer earns a tie in first game

The Luxemburg-Casco girls soccer team got their first regular season action of the season on Tuesday and earned a tie in Manitowoc. The final score was 0-0 as the Spartans tied Manitowoc Lincoln. Brewers lose final game of Spring Training north of the border

The Brewers bats went silent in their final Spring Training game before the regular season begins. Milwaukee lost to the Blue Jays 2-0 in a game played in Montreal. The Brewers could only muster 5 hits, all singles, in the ballgame. Corbin Burnes started the game on the mound for Milwaukee and pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out five. Zack Brown picked up the loss in relief allowing two runs (one unearned) in the seventh inning.

The Brewers hope their bats will pick up when the games count starting on Thursday when they play the Cardinals at Miller Park, first pitch at 1:10 PM.

Green Bay men advance to quarterfinal of CIT

The UW-Green Bay men's basketball team dominated Florida International on Tuesday night to advance to the quarterfinal of the College Insider Tournament. Sandy Cohen III led the way for the Phoenix with a near triple-double in the 98-68 victory. He had 20 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. JayQuan McCloud added in 17 points. UW-Green Bay will host CSU-Bakersfield on Friday with the tip-off coming at 4 PM.

Bucks win matchup of top MVP candidates

In a game where neither of the two frontrunners for MVP played a starring role, the Bucks knocked off the Rockets 108-94 at home on Tuesday night. Eric Bledsoe shined in a game that featured Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Harden. He scored 23 points and dished out 7 assists while going on a personal 11-0 run in the third quarter. Harden was defended by Bledsoe for much of the game and only scored 23 points, well under his season average. Antetokounmpo certainly didn't have a bad game scoring 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

The Bucks are a league-best 56-19 and next host the Clippers on Thursday night, tip-off at 7 PM.

Packers & Bears to kickoff NFL's 100th season

The NFL's 100th Season will kick off with a classic rivalry as the Chicago Bears host the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, September 5 at 7:20 PM on NBC. This will be the 199th meeting between the Bears and Packers, including regular-season and post-season games.

The Super Bowl champion New England Patriots will raise their championship banner on NBC Sunday Night Football in Week 1 at 7:20 PM on Sunday, September 8. Their opponent will be announced when the full 2019 regular season schedule is released later this spring.

The announcement was made by Hans Schroeder, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of NFL Media, at the League's Annual Meeting in Phoenix, AZ.

Both the 2019 Kickoff game between the Bears and Packers and Sunday Night Football will be broadcast by NBC.

Kewaunee storms the diamonds

The fields are at the very drier on the other side of the Door County line as Kewaunee baseball and softball each have games scheduled this afternoon.

The girls' softball team heads to Chilton to make up a game from last week, while the boys stay back to host Hilbert in baseball. Both games are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. first pitches.

The Storm softball team is coming off a 10-7 season and fourth in the Packerland Conference. Oddly enough their last game of 2018 was against Chilton, a 10-8 loss in the WIAA Regional. The baseball team is coming off a third place Packerland finish and a 10-9 record. Along with Algoma, they were suprised in their regional matchup against Gibraltar to end their 2018 campaign in a 13-1 defeat.

Girls take turn on Oshkosh track

A week after the boys, the girls get their chance to showcase their skills at the small school indoor track meet at UW-Oshkosh Tuesday afternoon.

Algoma, Luxemburg-Casco, and Southern Door will make the trip for the meet, which begins at 4:30 p.m.

The Wolves and the Eagles will have their boys' team in action as well as they travel to Oconto Falls for a meet beginning at 4 p.m. to face the host squad, Coleman, Crivitz, and Peshtigo.

Spartans soccer kick off season

The Luxemburg-Casco girls soccer team hope to hit the ground running this season when it kicks off tonight in Manitowoc.

Its match against Manitowoc Lincoln High School at Ron Rubick Municipal Field will be the Spartans first since falling to Northeastern Conference champion Wrightstown in last year's WIAA Regional. A key to improving on their 2-7-2 is starting stronger in the first half where they were outscored 17-1. The Spartans narrowed the gap in the second half, only be outscored by a 7-4 margin.

Tonight's game begins at 5 p.m.

Brewers pick up "la victoire" against Blue Jays

For the first time in 15 years, the Milwaukee Brewers won in Montreal.

The Brewers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in front of an enthusiastic crowd in Olympic Stadium, home of the defunct Montreal Expos. Mike Moustakas singled in Billy McKinney in the first inning to get the Brewers on the board, only to see the lead slip away in the second with a pair of RBI singles. Yasmani Grandal and Travis Shaw homered in consecutive innings to give the Brewers a 6-2 lead in the fifth inning. The Blue Jays would narrow the lead to 6-5 before Orlando Arcia, Ben Gamel, and Hernan Perez put the game out of reach in the top of the eighth.

The two teams meet again in Montreal tonight as a part of the annual series Toronto plays in Montreal to showcase it as a future MLB home.

Spring season juggling on the horizon

The life of an athletic director is about to get more complicated this week as more spring sports seasons are set to begin their outdoor competition schedule in Door and Kewaunee Counties. Track teams still have some meets left indoors, but girls’ soccer, softball, and baseball all have games this week on fields that are either waterlogged or still have snow on them. Much like last year when two April snowstorms cut the baseball and softball seasons to just a handful of conference games and playoffs, Gibraltar athletic director Peggy Tanck says scheduling games this year should be interesting.

Looking at the week ahead, Algoma and Sturgeon Bay softball teams have had their Thursday games already rescheduled for April dates. Luxemburg-Casco soccer still has their Tuesday night match in Manitowoc scheduled to take place.

Bucks throttle Cavs at Fiserv Forum

The Milwaukee Bucks extended their lead over the Raptors as the top team in the Eastern Conference Sunday at Fiserv Forum A 127-105 win over the Cavaliers game Milwaukee a four-game lead over Toronto with eight games left to play in the regular season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led all scorers with 26 points and added 10 rebounds and seven assists. Equally impressive contributions came from the rest of the team as well with six Bucks players scoring double digits.

Brook Lopez scored 14 points in the win including four threes. That effort made him the all-time leader in NBA history for threes in a year by a center. Lopez has now made 176 on the season.

Buck point/forward Marques Johnson had his number retired by the Bucks on Sunday as well. The team made #8 the first jersey raised to the rafters in the new Fiserv Forum.

Houston comes to town Tuesday night for a 7:00 PM tip-off between the top two MVP candidates (Giannis and Harden).

Brewers nip Diamondbacks

With many of the regulars spending Sunday afternoon back in Maryvale, the Milwaukee Brewers kicked off the final week of spring training with a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After the Diamondbacks scored one run in the third inning, the Brewers would score three unanswered in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings to give me a lead they would not give up. Troy Stokes, Mario Feliciano, Trent Grisham collected the RBI for the Brewers before the Diamondbacks scored one more run in the eighth to make it close, but not put them over the edge.

Many of the Brewers players headed north of the border to play the Toronto Blue Jays tonight at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, which begins at 7:05 p.m.

Green Bay to host home CIT game

For the first time in school history, both Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams can say they hosted a non-conference, postseason home game in the same year.

The Phoenix found on Sunday they will host a second-round game in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament Tuesday night against Florida International University on campus at the Kress Center. It comes after the Phoenix won their second postseason game in the past decade against East Tennessee State University 102-94 last week. The Panthers play a similar style to the Phoenix and earned their spot in the second round of the CIT with a win last week over North Texas State.

Tip-off at the Kress Center Tuesday night is slated for 7 p.m.

Brewers split a pair on Saturday

As Spring Training winds down for the Brewers they picked up a split in their two games on Saturday. Milwaukee traveled to the Spring Training home of the Rangers and took care of business 7-3. Burch Smith started the game on the mound and faced the minimum in three innings. Ben Gamel chipped in with a two-run homer.

The other half of the team was not as successful in their game against Kansas City. It started off well as Christian Yelich and Travis Shaw each hit two-run homers. Unfortunately, Marcus Diplan came in in relief and allowed four earned runs. The Royals ended up winning 6-4.

The Brewers have one game left in Arizona against the Diamondbacks which will take place Sunday afternoon at 2:10 PM. They then will travel to Montreal to play the Toronto Blue Jays for two exhibition games on Monday and Tuesday nights. Opening day is Thursday afternoon when the Brewers host the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:10 PM.

The Brewers were led by Lucas Erceg who went 2-3 at the plate with his third home run of the spring. Zach Davies was able to settle down after a rough start and the bullpen pitched 3 2/3 shutout innings.

The Brewers will travel to the Rangers Spring Training home on Saturday afternoon, first pitch at 2:05 PM.

Second half struggle knocks Wisconsin out

The state of Wisconsin went 0-2 in the 2019 Men's NCAA Tournament. The Wisconsin Badgers followed Marquette's path and lost a matchup as five seed against a 12. The Oregon Ducks knocked off Wisconsin 72-54 as they built their lead entirely in the second half. The game was tied at halftime but the Ducks dominated after the teams came back from the locker room. Oregon was led by Payton Pritchard who scored 19 points and had 8 assists. Wisconsin got 12 points apiece from Ethan Happ and Khalil Iverson.

The only hope for the state of Wisconsin in terms of a long tournament run comes from the Marquette women's team. They actually won their 5/12 matchup beating Rice 58-54 in overtime. The Golden Eagles rallied from down nine points with under three minutes left in regulation. Natisha Hiedeman scored 13 points to lead Marquette. They will take on number four seed Texas A&M on Sunday in Chicago.

Marquette falls, Wisconsin plays next in NCAAs

The Marquette Golden Eagles struggled to keep up with potential NBA lottery pick Ja Morant in an 83-64 loss to the Murray State Racers Thursday afternoon in the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Eagles' Markus Howard put on an offensive show of his own, scoring 26 points in the afternoon contest held in Hartford, Connecticut. Sam Hauser would add in 16 points of his own, but only three other Golden Eagles players would score, none more than eight points. Morant showed his NBA talent, registering only the eighth triple-double ever in the NCAA Tournament with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 16 assists.

With the Golden Eagles losing, the Wisconsin Badgers represent the state's only hope for NCAA Tournament magic. They are involved in another intriguing #5/#12 matchup at 3:30 p.m. as they play the Oregon Ducks in San Jose, California.

Phoenix falter at home in WNIT

The Green Bay Phoenix saw a 13-point advantage disappear in the fourth quarter as the Kent State Golden Flashes escaped the Kress Center Thursday night with a 64-59 win in the first round of the Women's NIT. The Phoenix carried an eight-point advantage in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, but the Golden Flashes' Megan Carter hit a three to give Kent State a lead they would not give up. Laken James scored 11 points and Jen Wellnitz added nine points in their senior farewell to the home crowd. The bad luck in the WNIT continues for the Phoenix as their losing streak in the postseason tournament now stands at five games.

LAT/Emergency responder meet and greet

To better care for our athletes and the community, local Athletic Trainers and members of the Door County Emergency Response teams and their families are getting to know each other just a little bit better. In the case of an emergency, it is beneficial to know those responding, as familiarity can help alleviate some of the fears and anxieties the person having the emergency might be feeling.

The Door County Medical Center's Licensed Athletic Trainers are hosting a Meet and Greet with local Emergency Response teams and their families on March 27th, 6:30pm, at Sonny's Pizzeria in Sturgeon Bay.

Shorthanded Bucks lose to Cavaliers

A Giannis-less Bucks team struggled against one of the basement dwellers of the NBA Wednesday night. The Cleveland Cavaliers topped Milwaukee 107-102. It marked the second straight night the Bucks played without MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo. The All-Star is nursing knee and foot injuries.

The Bucks only had eight healthy players for the late-season game in Cleveland. Milwaukee was led by Khris Middleton's 26 points and 12 rebounds. Eric Bledsoe added 24 points, eight assists and eight rebounds. Brook Lopez chipped in 19 points in the loss.

Fiserv Forum will be home for the Bucks' next four games including a Friday night tilt with the Miami Heat and a rematch with the Cavaliers on Sunday at 3:30 PM. Milwaukee's lead in the East is down to two games over the Raptors.

Local teams hit the track

While Kewaunee's first softball game was canceled due to the field conditions, the area's high school track teams will head out on the road for meets on Thursday. Gibraltar and Luxemburg-Casco will join 14 other schools for an invitational at Manitowoc Lutheran High School beginning at 4 p.m. Kewaunee will have to drive a little farther to their meet as they meet four other squads at Wausau West this afternoon at 4:15. Bucks beat Lakers while stars sit

No Giannis Antetokounmpo. No LeBron James. The Bucks Vs. Lakers game Tuesday night certainly did not live up to the hype. Two of the top players in the NBA were expected to go toe-to-toe. Instead, fans paid a premium dollar and saw Milwaukee beat L.A. 115-101 without Giannis and LeBron suiting up.

The Bucks were led by Khris Middleton's 30 points. Brook Lopez added 28 in the Milwaukee win.

Brewers offense falters against Rangers

Pitching wasn't the issue for the Brewers in their 3-2 loss to the Texas Rangers on Tuesday. Milwaukee only scored two runs both in the sixth inning. Nate Orf scored on an error and then Jesus Aguilar continued his hot spring with a double to drive in Lucas Ercig. But that was it as the Brewers could only muster five hits on the afternoon. The Rangers Willy Calhoun drove in all three runs with a two-run single in the second and a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Milwaukee's bullpen pitched very well only allowing one run while striking out seven in five innings of work. The Brewers will take on the Padres at San Diego's Spring Training home Wednesday with the first pitch coming at 3:10 PM.

Matthews & Cobb done in Green Bay

Clay Matthews and Randall Cobb were two of the longest tenured Green Bay Packers on the roster. Both reportedly signed new deals on Tuesday. Clay Matthews joins the already potent Los Angeles Rams defense. Matthews will benefit from players like Ndamukong Suh and Aaron Doland lining up next to him.

Randall Cobb reportedly signed with the Dalla Cowboys Tuesday. The veteran wide receiver will aide Dak Prescott's ariel attack in the lone star state. Cobb allegedly signed a one-year deal worth $5 million.

The departures of Matthews and Cobb leave Green Bay with just four players remaining on the roster from the Super Bowl XLV team of 2010.  Aaron Rodgers, Mason Crosby, Bryan Bulaga and Tramon Williams are the lone Packers Super Bowl champions left on the 2019 roster.

Indoor season presents issues for track athletes

There is a very good reason many of the track meets during the indoor season take place at college fieldhouses: facilities. With the exception of certain events, some members of the team may finally get out to the track this week as the snow melts, a welcome sight for those trying to get their reps inside a crowded gym. Sevastopol Head Track Coach Chris Horvat says it is especially hard for athletes in events like pole vault, where the proper equipment is hard to find locally.

The Sevastopol girls track team will get to make their mark on the season when they head to UW-Oshkosh next Tuesday.

Kewaunee Athletic Boosters works with students

The Kewaunee Athletic Boosters and the high school’s technical education department worked together recently to address a glaring need for its soccer teams. Kewaunee’s soccer coaches expressed a need for dugouts for its games, preferably portable so they could move around if needed.  What started as another project for the Kewaunee Athletic Boosters to take on turned into an opportunity for collaboration according to the organization’s president Michelle Dax.

The Kewaunee Athletic Booster Club has also in the past successfully fundraised for new scoreboards, handrails for fan seating areas, and a portable defibrillator.

Phoenix host WNIT game Thursday

For the first time program history, the Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team will host a postseason WNIT game.

On Monday night, the Phoenix accepted the bid to play against Mid American Conference opponent Kent State after not making the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014 when they last played in the WNIT. The Phoenix could break a four-game winning drought in the WNIT when it hosts Kent State at the Kress Center, a building where they have posted a 134-13 record since it opened in 2007.

The time of the game will be announced later today with the winner taking on the victor in the Butler/Northeastern matchup taking place Thursday at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Packers bring back TE Lewis

The Green Bay Packers have re-signed tight end Marcedes Lewis. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction Monday.

Lewis (6-6, 267) spent last season with the Packers, appearing in all 16 games with four starts and registering three receptions for 39 yards (13.0 avg.). He spent the first 12 seasons of his career with the Jaguars after being selected in the first round (No. 28 overall) by Jacksonville in 2006 out of UCLA. Lewis played in 170 games with 157 starts in 12 seasons with the Jaguars and joined WRs Jimmy Smith (12,287) and Keenan McCardell (6,393) as the only players in team history to record 4,000-plus career receiving yards (4,502). Lewis ranks No. 3 in Jaguars history in receptions (375) and No. 2 in receiving touchdowns (33). He started all five postseason games he played in for Jacksonville, recording 10 receptions (No. 4 in franchise history) for 111 yards (11.1 avg.) and a TD.

Softball action begins this week; baseball reports

Though unlikely to start this week due to melting snow and recent rains, baseball and softball seasons are technically underway this week in Door and Kewaunee Counties.

Monday marks the first day of practice for local baseball teams. Sturgeon Bay hopes to win another conference title as they went 9-1 in the shortened season. Gibraltar was the team that experienced the most amount of postseason success last year, making the sectional semi-final against Laconia after beating Kewaunee and Algoma by a combined score of 23-1.

On the softball diamond, Kewaunee is scheduled to get the first local softball action of the year with a trip to Chilton. Though not officially canceled or postponed yet, the Storm's season will likely see some kind of delay as the entire state waits to dry out.

Three local track teams head to Oconto Falls

Following the selections of the NCAA and NIT fields, the Green Bay Phoenix learned there would be a tomorrow for their season. Their run in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament begins Wednesday night at 6 against the East Tennessee State Buccaneers.

Bucks lose to Philly

Two of the Eastern Conference's best exploded for 83 points in the fourth quarter Sunday, but it was the Philadelphia 76ers escaping Milwaukee with a 130-125 win over the Bucks. The Sixers were able to shut down Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo as it built up its lead to be 62-53 at the break. Antetokounmpo would not go down quietly in the second half, scoring the bulk of his career-high 52 points while ending the day with 16 rebounds. Joel Embiid led the way for the Sixers with 40 points, followed by Jimmy Butler's 27 points and JJ Reddick's 19. The Bucks had four other players score in double figures in the loss. The homestand continues tomorrow night when the Los Angeles Lakers come to town to face the Bucks.

Late double spurs Brewers comeback

A bases-clearing double in the eighth inning gave the Milwaukee Brewers a Sunday matinee victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Things got off to an ominous start for the Brewers when the Dodgers got out to a 4-0 lead thanks to homers by Joc Pederson and Chris Taylor. It would be 5-0 before the Brewers got onto the board with an RBI single by Jesus Aguilar. It was the top of the 8th inning Keston Hiura hit a double high off the wall in left center that cleared the bases and turned a 7-6 deficit for the Brewers into a 9-7 lead. The Brewers would give up one more run in the bottom of the ninth before nailing down its 13th win of the spring.

With a day off on Monday, the Texas Rangers will visit the Brewers in Maryvale on Tuesday.

Brewers split a pair on Saturday

The Brewers played a split-squad doubleheader on Saturday and went 1-1 on the day. Milwaukee went to Kansas City and took a loss as they could only muster a two-run single from Jesus Aguilar in the fifth inning. The Royals won 6-2 behind four shutout innings from their starting pitcher Homer Bailey.

The other half of the Brewers hosted Colorado and got a walkoff victory 5-4. Tuffy Gosewisch drove home Keston Hiura in the bottom of the 9th to secure the win. Milwaukee had the lead going to the ninth inning but Jimmy Nelson allowed an unearned run which led to the heroics from Gosewisch. The Brewers are now 12-11 overall in Spring Training play.

Badgers can't hang with Michigan State

Wisconsin fell in the Big Ten Conference Tournament Semifinal on Saturday afternoon at the United Center in Chicago. Michigan State is the number one seed in the tournament and they knocked off the fourth-seeded Badgers 67-55. Ethan Happ did all he could to keep Wisconsin in the game scoring 20 points and grabbing six rebounds. The Spartans were led by Cassius Winston who put up 21 points and six assists. Wisconsin will now wait for their seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Selection Sunday show begins at 5 PM Sunday on CBS.

Marquette falls in Big East Tournament

Marquette could not hold a three-point halftime lead at Madison Square Garden on Saturday against Seton Hall in the Semifinal of Big East Conference Tournament. Khalil Iverson and Nathan Reuvers led the way for the Badgers with 14 points apiece. The Cornhuskers’ Glynn Watson Jr. played all 40 minutes and was the leading scorer in the game with 23 points. Wisconsin will now advance to play the number one seed Michigan State in the Semifinal on Saturday with the tip-off at noon.

Bucks come back from big deficit

The Bucks went into halftime in Miami down by 20 points and still ended up blowing out the Heat. Milwaukee outscored Miami 71-36 in the second half to improve to 52-17 on the season. The final score was 113-98. Giannis Antetokounmpo finished one assist shy of a triple-double with a line of 33 points, 16 rebounds and 9 assists while Khris Middleton chipped in with 21 points and 8 assists. The Bucks will host the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday afternoon in a nationally televised game on ABC, tip-off at 2:30 PM.

Wisconsin teams still alive for NCAA Tournament

It is not a matter of if but where in the NCAA Tournament field the Wisconsin Badgers and the Marquette Golden Eagles will land after this weekend.

The Golden Eagles opened their postseason up with an 86-54 thrashing of St. John's at Big East Tournament being held at the Madison Square Garden in New York City. Markus Howard led the way with 30 points with two other players chipping in with double figures. The Golden Eagles will face Seton Hall in the tournament quarterfinals tonight at 8 p.m.

The Badgers had to wait through two rounds of byes to get to their quarterfinal matchup at the United Center in Chicago. They will face Nebraska at 2 p.m. after the Cornhuskers toppled Rutgers and a ranked Maryland team in consecutive days.

Brewers tie Angels

The Milwaukee Brewers hit three homers but also had three errors in a 7-7 tie against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Thursday afternoon.

Travis Shaw's RBI double staked the Brewers to a 1-0 lead that held for two innings until Justin Bour hit a three-run homer to give the Angels a 3-1 lead in the third inning. The Brewers answered with a pair of homers by Christian Yelich and Jesus Aguilar to take a 4-3 advantage in the bottom half of the inning. After the Angels scored two runs in the fourth inning, Mike Moustakas tied the game in the sixth inning. The Angels and the Brewers would trade two-run rallies in the eighth and ninth innings respectively and elected not to try breaking the tie with a 10th inning.

Jhoulys Chacin was named the opening day starter for the Brewers two weeks before they face the St. Louis Cardinals on March 28th. The Brewers host the Padres at Maryvale this afternoon.

Packers make free agent signings official

The Green Bay Packers have signed S Adrian Amos, LB Preston Smith, LB Za’Darius Smith and T/G Billy Turner. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Thursday.

Amos (A-miss), 6-0, 214, was originally selected in the fifth round (No. 142 overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Penn State by the Chicago Bears. In four seasons, he appeared in 60 games with 56 starts, recording 305 tackles (244 solo), three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three interceptions (one he returned for a touchdown), 13 tackles for a loss and seven special teams tackles. Amos has started at least 10 games each season, including 14 or more three times. He played in one postseason contest, where he registered six tackles (five solo), an interception and two passes defensed. Amos was named to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie team in 2015 after becoming the first Bears rookie to lead the team in defensive tackles (based on coaches review) since LB Brian Urlacher in 2000.

Smith (6-5, 265) comes to Green Bay after four seasons with the Washington Redskins, who originally selected him in the second round (No. 38 overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State. He has never missed a game in the NFL, appearing in 64 regular-season contests with 50 starts. Smith has recorded 163 tackles (103 solo), 24.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, four interceptions, 13 passes defensed and three fumble recoveries, including one returned for a TD. According to Sportradar, he ranks No. 5 among linebackers with 59 QB hits from 2015-18. Smith has played in one postseason contest, the 2015 Wild Card game vs. Green Bay in which he tallied three tackles (two solo) and a sack that resulted in a safety.

(zuh-DARE-ee-us) Smith (6-4, 272) was originally selected in the fourth round (No. 122 overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft out of the University of Kentucky by the Baltimore Ravens. He has played in 58 regular-season games with 16 starts as well as started a postseason contest. In his first four seasons, Smith totaled 119 tackles (71 solo), 18.5 sacks, five passes defensed and three forced fumbles. In 2018, he set career highs in tackles (45), solo tackles (26) and sacks (team-high 8.5). According to Sportradar, Smith ranked No. 2 among NFL linebackers in 2018 in QB hits (25) and tied for No. 6 in total pressures (sacks + hurries + knockdowns) with 35.

Turner (6-5, 310) has spent time with the Miami Dolphins (2014-16), Baltimore Ravens (2016) and Denver Broncos (2016-18) over five seasons. He has played in 40 games with 25 starts in his career after originally being selected by the Dolphins in the third round (No. 67 overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft out of North Dakota State. In 2018, he played in a career-best 16 games, starting seven at right guard and four at right tackle. The Shoreview, Minn., native started 56 of 57 games at NDSU and was a member of three FCS National Championship teams. His father, Maurice Turner, played running back in the NFL for Minnesota (1984-85), Green Bay (1985) and the New York Jets (1987).

Quality over quantity important for Sevastopol track

The Sevastopol Track team is not intimidated by larger teams because they know they have talent on their side. This year’s squad currently has only 24 kids total with just two seniors on the roster. However, the Pioneers return almost all of their athletes that headed to LaCrosse last spring for the state track meet. Head coach Chris Horvat says he understands the limitations of a small roster.

Horvat says one specific event to key on in 2019 is the 3200-meter relay team featuring Zoe Kuehn, Mya Ploor, Elizabeth Fiscus, and Olivia Stenzel, which took 3rd place in Division 3 in the state track meet. The Pioneers first meet is Thursday at UW-Oshkosh. You can listen to the entire coaches interview with Chris Horvat online at DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com.

Door County snowmobile season on life support

Only two of Door County's four snowmobile zones remain open as of Thursday morning, but warm temperatures may end the season potentially by the end of the week.

The north and central snowmobiling zones are open, but the Door County Parks Department web site says the trails in those areas are poor with the possibility of open water. Door County's southeast and southwest zones, as well as all of Kewaunee County's trails, closed for the season on Wednesday at 6 a.m.

Brewers tripped up by Indians

The Cleveland Indians scored three runs in the opening frame before going on to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 9-3 in spring training baseball action. Brewers hurler Chase Anderson struggled in his start, giving up a bases-loaded walk and two RBI single to Hanley Ramirez before recording an out in the first winning. Two innings later Roberto Perez would make it 4-0 with a home run. Prized Brewers prospect Keston Hiura would cut the deficit to one with his third home run of the spring in the fifth inning. The Indians would score the final four runs in the contest, including scoring three runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning thanks to a fielding error and a two-run double by Ryan Flaherty.

The Brewers return to Maryvale this afternoon to face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Phoenix fall in Horizon League championship game

For the first time in over two decades, no Horizon League championship banners of any kind will be hung for the Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team.

After falling a game short of sharing the regular season championship with Wright State, the Phoenix lost to the Raiders in the tournament title game 55-52. The Phoenix started out hot, but went ice cold in the second quarter to end the half down 27-16. Rising from ashes, the Phoenix stormed back to take the lead in the fourth quarter before giving up another big Raider run. Tied with just over 90 seconds remaining, the Raiders would retake a lead they would not give up again. Mackenzie Wolf led the Phoenix with 10 points.

An injury-riddled season for the Phoenix will likely see a new beginning after the NCAA Tournament field is announced with the team's first WNIT bid in five years a real possibility.

Brett Hundley signs with Cardinals

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback and Jim Olson Motors Red Zone host Brett Hundley is heading home. The Chandler, Arizona product signed a one-year deal to play with his home state NFL team the Arizona Cardinals Tuesday afternoon.

After the Seattle Seahawks traded Green Bay a sixth-round draft pick for his services last year, Hundley opted for Arizona in free agency. Reportedly, the $2 million dollar deal includes incentives that could take him to $3 million in 2019.

Hundley not only gets to play in his home state he also gets to play for a team that has no clear starter. The fifth-year NFL quarterback is super excited for the opportunity. He said Tuesday, "It's neat how things come full circle. I am excited to be going back home. God is good."

Nick Perry released by Packers

The Green Bay Packers have released LB Nick Perry. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction Tuesday.

“We want to thank Nick for his contributions to the Green Bay Packers and the community over the last seven seasons,” Gutekunst said. “He did a tremendous job on the field, was a great teammate and a true professional. We wish Nick, his wife, Audrianna, and their family all the best.”

Perry was originally selected by Green Bay in the first round (No. 28 overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft out of the University of Southern California. In seven seasons with the Packers, he started 48 of 81 regular-season games played and registered 259 tackles (173 solo), 32 sacks, an interception, seven forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 14 passes defensed. Perry also appeared in eight playoff games with one start and ranks No. 3 in team postseason history (since 1982) with seven sacks, trailing only LB Clay Matthews (11) and DE Reggie White (eight).

Packers make big splash in free agency

The Green Bay Packers had the busiest single day in free agency in franchise history Tuesday. General Manager Brian Gutenkunst reportedly inked four new players in an avenue that previous GM Ted Thompson never did with this kind of fervor.

Tuesday started with reports of Green Bay signing edge rusher Za'Darius Smith. Minutes later safety Adrian Amos was set to bolster the safety position. Preston Smith was the next addition Tuesday morning adding another outside linebacker. Finally, offensive lineman Bill Turner was signed by the green and gold.

Gutenkunst later announced the release of Nick Perry to make all the moves look financially feasible and the re-signing of Clay Matthews took a big hit Tuesday as well.

Smith and Smith combined for 110-plus pressures of opposing quarterbacks last year alone. That number alone gives Packers fans a sense that the defense will be much improved in 2019.

Amos started all 16 games for the Bears and had two interceptions last season. The signing weakens a division opponent and gives Green Bay a likely starter in the defensive secondary.

Za'Darius Smith will reportedly receive $16.5 million per year. That number puts him as a top-five paid player at the edge rusher position in the NFL. The move is no Ron Wolf inks Reggie White type deal, but Green Bay is hoping Smith's impact could get the Packers back to the Super Bowl.

Aaron Rodgers is still in the prime of his career and moves like the ones that were made today indicate Green Bay is ready to help #12 get a handful of additional shots at bringing a few more Lombardi's back home.

Bucks cruise to 130-113 win over Pelicans

The Milwaukee Bucks claimed a road win against the New Orleans Pelicans 130-113 Tuesday night.  The win boosted the Bucks to a three-game lead over the Toronto Raptors for the best record in the East and the number one seed.  A 45-point third quarter was the difference for the Bucks as Giannis Antetokounmpo led the way with 24 points.  Khris Middleton added 23 along with seven assists.  Milwaukee (51-17) will now travel to Miami for a game on Thursday to end the three-game road trip.

Kewaunee's Dax earns all-state honors

Kewaunee’s Sara Dax can officially close the book on her high school career after being named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches’ Association All-State team for a second year in a row. The Michigan Tech recruit led the Storm in scoring (21.8 points per game), rebounding (8.8 rebounds per game), and assists (3.5 assists per game) during the 2018-19 campaign. The Storm made it to the sectional semi-final before falling to Kiel to conclude a 23-2 season.

Kewaunee track teams close to full strength

The Kewaunee track team expects to be at full strength in time for its first invitational Thursday at UW-Oshkosh. About 28 boys and 25 girls are out for this season’s teams, a blessing for the coaching staff as they try to fill up events. The success of its wrestling and basketball teams stretched into the opening week of the track season, which started earlier this month. Kewaunee head track coach Joe Kassner says those athletes got a little time off to rest.

Kassner says other commitments such as driver education classes will also keep some of its athletes out until later this week. Even though the season has already started, Kassner added there is still time for students to join the team. You can listen to the full indoor track season preview with Kewaunee’s head track coach Joe Kassner online at DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com.

Brewers beat White Sox 8-5

Home runs in back to back innings helped give the Milwaukee Brewers an 8-5 win over the Chicago White Sox. After Hernan Perez gave the Brewers an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single, Ryan Braun and Cory Spangenberg hit multi-run homers in consecutive innings to stretch the lead to six.  The White Sox would score a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings to narrow the lead to 6-4, but the Brewers would score twice on two wild pitches to put the game out of reach. Monday marked the return to the mound for Jimmy Nelson, who missed all of 2018 recovering from shoulder surgery. He gave up two runs on four hits in his one inning of work.

The Brewers return to action Tuesday in a rare night contest against the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale beginning at 9:05.

Phoenix women go for NCAA berth Tuesday morning

Another crack at Wright State is the reward after a nailbiting 55-53 Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball win over Youngstown State Monday afternoon. The Phoenix defense was able to hold the Penguins to 32 percent from the field, but it could not get stops from behind the arc as they gave up 13 three-pointers. The Phoenix weathered the storm thanks to forcing 13 turnovers and going over 80 percent from the free throw line. Frankie Wurtz led the Phoenix with 13 points with Meghan Pingel chipping in 11 points in the win.

For the 10th straight year, the Phoenix find themselves in the Horizon League Tournament Championship with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. They will face the top-seeded Raiders at 11 a.m. at the Little Caesar's Arena in Detroit after splitting their two previous matchups this season.

Phoenix men see season end against Wright State

A furious comeback in the second half lost steam in the final minutes as the Green Bay Phoenix saw their season end in a 66-54 loss to Wright State Monday night in Detroit.

The Raiders played tough defense in the first half, limiting the Phoenix to a season-low 20 points. Meanwhile, hot three-point shooting by Bill Wampler helped give the Raiders a 20 point lead early in the second half. That's when the offense and the defense picked up steam, outscoring the Raiders 18-1 over the next several minutes and cut the lead to just three. The Raiders were able to make some tough shots and hit their free throws at the end to not allow the Phoenix to get any closer. Sandy Cohen fouled out of his most likely final game as a member of Green Bay, scoring 13 points in the process.

Barring any postseason invitations, the Phoenix will finish the season at 17-16.

Saturday is not a day of rest for hospital CEO

Door County Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Brian Stephens doesn't spend his Saturday mornings resting and recovering from a long work week. Instead, Stephens and his seventh-grade son Ben volunteer as coaches at the YMCA.

The six-week YMCA Youth Soccer Clinic started Saturday and elementary age children are encouraged to sign up as Saturday, March 16 is the last day to join.

Stephens said he and his son remember how former Clippers Soccer student-athletes like Will Kitchens and Ben Felhoffer used to come out and help at camps like this. The Stephens wanted to do the same for the next group of up and coming soccer players.

Track kicks off spring season Thursday

Softball hosts its first practices Monday with baseball still a week away, but area track teams are just a couple days away from their first meets of the season.

On Thursday, Algoma, Kewaunee, Luxemburg-Casco, Sevastopol, and Southern Door will compete against dozens of other schools at the Kolf Sports Center on the campus of UW-Oshkosh. The Wolves will double dip this week when they return to action the following day at Ripon College.

Phoenix land in Detroit for Motor City Madness

The Green Bay Phoenix men and women's basketball teams hope to punch their tickets to the NCAA Tournament with a pair of Motor City Madness victories the next two nights.

The women get things started for the Phoenix with a matinee matchup against Youngstown State. The Penguins and the Phoenix split their match-ups in the regular season with both squads capturing double-digit victories on the road. The Phoenix are looking to punch their fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament when they open up Motor City Madness play at 2:30 p.m.

At 6 p.m., the men get their shot to earn their first NCAA Tournament since the Horizon League moved the tournament to Detroit when they face the top-seeded Wright State Raiders. The two squads split their regular season match-ups as well with the Phoenix topping the Raiders in their most recent game at the Resch Center.

Both games are taking place at Little Caesars Arena with potential championship match-ups slated to take place at 11 a.m. for the women and 6 p.m. for the men if the Phoenix win.

Badgers top Buckeyes in OT

The Wisconsin Badgers were able to stave off a furious comeback by the Ohio State Buckeyes Sunday afternoon to escape Columbus with a 73-67 overtime victory. The Badgers saw their 20-plus lead disappear thanks to a 27-5 run by the Buckeyes to come within two desperate three-point shot attempts away from blowing the biggest lead in the Big Ten this season. A pair of Khalil Iverson baskets and a handful free-throws later, the Badgers were able to earn a double-bye in this week's Big Ten Tournament, which starts on Wednesday. Ethan Happ racked up another double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in the win. The Badgers will face the winner of Maryland and Nebraska/Rutgers on Friday.

Bucks lose to Spurs

The Milwaukee Bucks could not hold its first-half lead as they lost to the San Antonio Spurs in Texas Sunday 121-114.

The Bucks entered the second half staked with a six-point lead but were outscored by 10 points in the third quarter and one point in the fourth quarter to give the Spurs their eighth straight win. The Bucks' schedule did them no favors, playing a night game in Milwaukee before flying into San Antonio the morning Daylight Savings Time took place. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 27 points while Eric Bledsoe chipped in 21 in the defeat. The Bucks will get Monday off before facing the New Orleans Pelicans Tuesday night.

Brewers rally past Cubs

The Milwaukee Brewers came back from five runs down to win 7-5 in Maryvale Sunday afternoon.

Pitcher Corbin Burnes struggled in his start surrendering five runs in four innings, though an Orlando Arcia prolonged the third inning with a fielding error. That miscue was made worse a short while when Christian Adames cleared the bases with a triple.

The Brewers got on the board against starter Kyle Hendricks with a Yasmani Grandal double in the bottom half to make it 5-1. Arcia would make up for his error one inning later with a three-run homer. With reliever Brian Duensing on the mound, the Brewers tied and later took the lead on homers by Mat Gamel and Tyler Saladino. The Brewers would tack on an insurance run in the 7th inning on a Tyler Henry RBI double.

The Brewers stay at home Monday to face the Chicago White Sox at 3:05 p.m.

Brewers win two on Saturday

The Brewers played in two split-squad games on Saturday and won both of them. They knocked off the A’s 11-2 and the Angels 5-1. Nate Orf, Trent Grisham and Keston Hiura all hit home runs against Oakland. Eric Thames and Christian Yelich both went deep in the first inning versus the Angels to back starting pitcher Josh Tomlin, who pitched five scoreless innings. The Brewers will take on the Cubs on Sunday afternoon with first pitch at 3:05.

Marquette suffers fourth straight loss

The Marquette men’s basketball team has ended the regular season on a four-game losing streak after their 86-84 home loss to Georgetown on Saturday. They were in great position to win the Big East Conference crown but finished the regular season in second place to Villanova. Freshman guard James Akinjo led the Hoyas with 25 points, while Markus Howard had 28 points to lead all scorers for Marquette. Next up for the Golden Eagles is the Big East Conference Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

Shaw hits two home runs as Brewers win

The Brewers knocked off the Diamondbacks 6-3 on Friday behind the performances of Freddy Peralta and Travis Shaw. Peralta started the game on the mound and pitched three shutout innings only allowing two hits and striking out three. Travis Shaw hit two home runs, both off of Arizona starting pitcher Zack Godley, to lead the Brewers offense. Lorenzo Cain had two hits and Keston Hiura added a home run as well. The Brewers are now 5-6 in Spring Training and take on Oakland on Saturday with first pitch at 2:05 PM.

Packers release linebacker Morrison

The Green Bay Packers have released linebacker Antonio Morrison. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction Friday.

Morrison, who was acquired by the Packers in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts in August 2018, played in all 16 games with eight starts last season and posted 42 tackles (28 solo), four tackles for a loss, a sack, two QB pressures and a QB hit while adding four tackles on special teams. He was originally selected by the Colts in the fourth round (No. 125 overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida. In two seasons with Indianapolis, Morrison played in 31 games with 19 starts and registered 154 tackles (91 solo), six tackles for a loss and a pass defensed.

Luxemburg-Casco's soccer beginnings

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer program has had a lot of success in the short amount of time it's been around. It got started in 2002 and Jenny Bandow was the head coach of both the boys and girls teams back then. Bandow did that from 2002-2003 through 2007-2008 when her husband Bair Bandow took over the boys team while Jenny continued coaching the girls team. Jenny Bandow coached until the 2011 season, and now she is the athletic director for the Spartans. The current AD was able to lead the boys soccer team to a conference championship in just the fourth year of the program in 2007. Bandow says it was quite an accomplishment for the program.

Jenny Bandow was the correct answer to the Thursday's high school sports trivia contest which can be found daily in the DoorCountyDailyNews.com E-Paper. If you are subscribed to the E-Paper and correctly answer the trivia question of the day, you could win a prize.

Gibraltar's playoff run ends against Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran on 105.1 The Viking

The Gibraltar boys basketball team’s season is over after a loss in the sectional semifinal to their conference rival Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran on Thursday night, a game broadcasted on 105.1 The Viking. Gibraltar got off to a slow start and went down by double digits early on. Trevor Reinhardt knocked down three 3 point shots and Brady Ash added a dunk to eventually give the Vikings a lead late in the first half. The Blazers ended the half on a bit of a run and led 31-26 at halftime. That run continued when the teams returned from the locker room as Packerland Conference Player of the Year Samuel Meerstein scored 20 of his game high 30 points in the second half. The final score was 78-50.

Trevor Reinhardt finished with 16 points to lead the way for the Vikings in his final high school basketball game. Evan Henry finished with eight and Andras Szakala had five points in their final games at Gibraltar.

Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran will advance to the sectional final to take on Columbus Catholic on Saturday night at Wausau West High School.

Gibraltar finishes the season at 13-12 overall and 7-9 in the Packerland Conference. They won their first regional championship since 1975.

Bucks get back on track against Pacers

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton led the way as they helped the Milwaukee Bucks get back in the win column with a 117-98 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Antetokounmpo scored 29 points while collecting 12 rebounds. Middleton did much of his damage from behind the arc, knocking down four threes en route to a 27 point evening. Brook Lopez and Eric Bledsoe each scored in double figures in the win in front of the home crowd. The homestand continues Saturday when the Bucks host the Charlotte Hornets at 8 p.m.

Brewers fall to White Sox

Three home runs Thursday afternoon were not enough to lift the Milwaukee Brewers over the Chicago White Sox in a 9-5 loss at Camelback Ranch.

After a Leury Garcia staked the White Sox with 1-0 lead in the second inning, Tyler Saladino tied it up with a home run in the fifth. The White Sox would come back with four unanswered runs before Manny Pina took advantage of some defensive miscues for an inside-the-park home run in the seventh inning to make it 5-2. The Brewers would tie it up later that inning on a three-run homer. The White Sox would come back in the bottom half of the inning with a Ryan Cordell RBI single and three-run homer by Danny Mendick to take a lead they would not give up. The Brewers return to Maryvale Friday afternoon for a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Gibraltar faces familiar foe in sectional semi on 105.1 The Viking

After traveling to Wisconsin’s north woods for a pair of regional matchups, the Gibraltar Vikings prepare to face Packerland Conference rival NEW Lutheran at Ashwaubenon High School in the WIAA Division 5 boys’ basketball sectional semifinals Thursday night. Both teams are coming off a trio of regional victories in which they won in convincing fashion. The two teams split their conference matchups this season, with the Vikings winning by two in December and the Blazers capturing a nine-point victory on Valentine’s Day.  The victor of Thursday’s matchup will earn a trip to Wausau Saturday night to face the winner of Columbus Catholic and Almond-Bancroft.

Jon Bregman and Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The Viking beginning at 6:45 with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m. You can find extended coverage of the game at our new website and Facebook page, DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com.

Gibraltar's Reinhardts named to charity game roster

Cousins Trevor and Griffin Reinhardt will get to don their Gibraltar football helmets one more time this summer in the name of charity. The seniors were named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Charity All-Star Game roster earlier this month for the game set to be played on July 20th in Oshkosh. The game raises thousands of dollars every year for Children’s Hospital. Griffin, who will continue his football career at St. Norbert College in the fall, says it is an honor to play in the game.

Both Reinhardts were all-MONLPC selections for eight-man football. Trevor was first-team offense and the co-offensive player of the year while Griffin made the first-team for his work on the offensive and defensive lines. They will also get to play with Jeremy Jorns and Nathan Stenzel from conference and county rival Sevastopol on the South All-Star team. You can learn how you donate to their cause online with this story and listen to the full interview with Griffin Reinhardt online at DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com.

Southern Door Athletic Boosters play crucial role with technology

From exchanging game film to help student-athletes make highlight reels for colleges, it may not have been possible without the support of the Southern Door Athletic Boosters. The booster club, which has nine board members attend its monthly meetings, helps sponsor the football team’s Hudl membership, which helps record the games and makes it easier for the film to get in the hands of the people who need it. Southern Door Athletic Booster president Heidi Gutschow says they have plans to upgrade it in the future.

The Southern Door Craft Show and concession stand sales are two ways the Southern Door Athletic Boosters raise money for a variety of different projects in recent years including new balls and bats for the baseball and softball teams and a new scoreboard in the Eagle Gymnasium.

Borseth's 400th program win punches Green Bay's ticket to Detroit

Green Bay women’s basketball head coach Kevin Borseth’s 400th win as the program’s head coach had extra meaning Thursday night at the Kress Center in Green Bay. The 73-30 victory over Cleveland State clinched a semi-final appearance against Youngstown State on March 11th to continue their run in the Horizon League Tournament in Detroit. Tied up at 13 after the first quarter, the Phoenix locked down on defense to only allow a total of 17 points the rest of the way. Frankie Wurtz, Madison Wolf, and Jen Wellnitz all scored in double figures in the victory. Borseth’s 400th win was his second major milestone of the season, eclipsing the 700 total victory mark when combined with his time at Michigan Tech and Michigan.

John Kuhn retires a Packer

Former fullback John Kuhn, who played nine seasons (2007-15) in Green Bay, has informed the club of his decision to retire with the Packers. The announcement was made Wednesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

Kuhn originally started his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Shippensburg (Pa.) University, spending time on the Steelers’ practice squad (2005) and active roster (nine games played in 2006) before being claimed off waivers by the Packers in 2007. During his nine seasons with Green Bay, he played in 139 regular-season games with 32 starts as well as 15 postseason contests with five starts. Kuhn played in the second most regular-season games in team history among running backs/fullbacks behind only FB William Henderson (188).

“John was a terrific football player and tremendous teammate who contributed to many years of success for the Packers,” Gutekunst said. “He was a true professional whose work ethic and leadership set a great example both on the field and in the locker room. We want to thank John and his family for all they did for the Packers and in the community as well as wish them nothing but the best.”

Kuhn was a key member of teams that won a Super Bowl (XLV) and five division titles, finished with 10-plus wins seven times and made the playoffs eight times. He was named first-team All-Pro by The Associated Press in 2014, second-team All-Pro by AP in 2011 and was selected to the Pro Bowl three times (2011, 2014-15). His three Pro Bowl selections are tied with John Brockington (1971-73) and Cecil Isbell (1938, 1941-42) for the third most by a Packers RB/FB, trailing only FB Jim Taylor (five, 1960-64) and RB Ahman Green (four, 2001-04). Kuhn was the first Green Bay fullback to be named to the Pro Bowl in back-to-back seasons since Taylor went to five straight.

The York, Pa., native was a member of Green Bay offenses that ranked in the top 10 in points eight times and the top 10 in yards seven times. He blocked for a 1,000-yard rusher four times (Ryan Grant in 2008-09 and Eddie Lacy in 2013-14). As a ball carrier, Kuhn rushed for 601 yards on 196 attempts (3.1 avg.) with 15 touchdowns. He also recorded 81 receptions for 557 yards (6.9 avg.) and eight TDs. In the postseason, Kuhn rushed for four TDs (tied for No. 2 in franchise history) and caught three TDs, giving him the second-most postseason TDs (seven) in the history of the Packers.

Kuhn finished his career playing two seasons (2016-17) with the New Orleans Saints, where he appeared in 18 games with four starts and recorded five TDs (four rushing and one receiving).

Brewers win pitchers duel

Tyler Saladino’s RBI double in the seventh inning was the only run of the game as the Brewers knocked off the Rockies 1-0 on Tuesday. The game was played at the Rockies Spring Training home at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. Corbin Burnes got the start for Milwaukee and struck out four in three scoreless innings. Taylor Williams picked up the win by pitching a scoreless sixth inning and Miguel Sanchez got the save. The Brewers will host the Diamondbacks at home on Wednesday with the first pitch at 2:05 PM.

UW-Green Bay men advance in Horizon League Tournament

The UW-Green Bay men’s basketball team picked up a home victory in the quarterfinal of the Horizon League Tournament on Tuesday night. The Phoenix knocked off UIC 82-77 as they will advance to the semifinals which will be played in Detroit on Monday night. Sandy Cohen III led the way for UWGB with 21 points. The Phoenix finished the game on a 13-3 run. Wright State, the top seed in the Horizon League Tournament, awaits UWGB on Monday at Little Caesars Arena, tip-off at 6 PM.

Packers tickets to raise slightly for 2019 season

The Green Bay Packers today announced plans for a price increase on stadium bowl tickets for the 2019 season. Regular-season tickets will increase between $1 and $6 per game, depending on location, with more than half of the tickets increasing $2 or less per game.

Invoices are being sent to season ticket holders this week and include a brochure which outlines the new pricing and previews next season’s home opponents. Preseason ticket prices, which are roughly half of regular-season prices, will increase between $1 and $2 per game, depending on location, with the exception of the 600 Level. That section will decrease $3 as an adjustment in relation to the regular-season price.

“This pricing increase continues our practice of keeping our prices just below the middle of NFL pricing, while recognizing the value of the gameday experience at Lambeau Field and providing shared revenue to our fellow NFL teams,” Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said in a letter enclosed with the brochure.

The average increase in pricing, 3.1 percent, is the smallest increase in the past 10 years. Variable pricing again will be used for preseason and regular-season games. With the increases, tickets in respective areas in 2019 will cost:

End zone seats – $56 for preseason, $111 for regular season (in 2018, prices were $54 and $109, respectively).

South end zone, 700 Level – $60 for preseason, $120 for regular season (in 2018, prices were $59 for preseason, $119 for regular season).

End zone to the 20?yard line – $63 for preseason, $128 for regular season (in 2018, prices were $62 for preseason, $122 for regular season).

South end zone, 600 Level – $63 for preseason, $128 for regular season (in 2018, prices were $66 for preseason, $126 for regular season).

Between the 20-yard lines – $72 for preseason, $142 for regular season (in 2018, prices were $71 for preseason, $136 for regular season).

Payment is due in the Packers’ ticket office by March 30.

“Pay as we Play” is again encouraged as a method to pay for playoff tickets for both Green and Gold package holders. By registering online for the early entry Pay as we Play option, both Green and Gold package ticket holders can lock in special pricing for a possible Wild Card home game. These special ticket prices, which range from $100 to $128, are lower than their respective regular-season prices.

Green package holders have the first right of refusal on seat locations for the playoffs and are being asked to commit by Aug. 16 in order to allow Gold package holders to participate in the early entry, as well. Gold package holders who register will be placed in a drawing and, if selected, randomly assigned seats not used by the Green package holders.

Additionally, the brochure reminds season ticket holders that PDF (or “Print at Home”) tickets are no longer offered, as tickets forwarded electronically to others or sold via Ticketmaster are now scanned on smartphones as the only mode for stadium entry. This helps reduce counterfeit tickets. Season tickets will be mailed to season ticket holders as usual each July.

Lambeau Field premium seat ticket prices are set per client contracts. Additional information regarding ticket prices, as well as invoices, will be sent to premium seat ticket holders in the next week.

Track season gets underway

As the winter sports season winds down with its state series events, area track athletes are the first to kick off the spring. Teams have indoor meets at local colleges and bigger high school fieldhouses before they official head outdoors for the rest of the season.  Luxemburg-Casco, Algoma, Kewaunee, Sevastopol, and Southern Door start their season on the campus of UW-Oshkosh next Thursday for an invitational hosted by the Lourdes Academy.  Gibraltar and Sturgeon Bay get their first action of the season on March 18th when it travels to Oconto Falls. Both meets start at 4:30 p.m. You can find the full track schedules posted online with this story.

In the near future, you will be able to find season previews with every team posted online at DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com.

Delays expected for spring season

The first game of Gibraltar’s baseball season is supposed to be on March 30th against Oconto, but athletic director Peggy Tanck stated the obvious Friday night when she said it was unlikely the game will be able to take place. For a second straight year, heavy snowfall will make the area fields unplayable for several weeks. Tanck says a lot would need to happen for the competition schedule to start on time.

Even though there are still a couple weeks left to the basketball season, spring sports are on the verge of starting up. Track has already started its workouts, while softball begins March 11th and baseball follows a week after that.

Late run drops Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks were outscored 38-23 in the fourth quarter en route to a 114-105 loss to the Phoenix Suns Monday night.  It was particularly stunning given the Suns came into the contest with the league’s worst record trying to hold down the team with its best mark. Kelly Oubre, Jr. (27 points, 13) rebounds) and Deandre Ayton (19 points, 12 rebounds) each had double-doubles while Devin Booker scored 22 points. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 21 points and 13 rebounds in the Bucks’ second straight loss.  The Bucks will hope a return to the friendly confines of Fiserv Forum will change their fortunes when they host the Indiana Pacers at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Phoenix face Flames in Horizon League quarterfinals

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team will have to win three games in a row to punch their second ticket to the NCAA tournament in the Linc Darner starting Tuesday night. Their first test will be at home against the UIC Flames. The Phoenix beat the Flames twice during the regular season but had to come back from second-half double-digit deficits in each contest to escape with a victory. The winner of Tuesday's game will head to Little Caesars Arena in Detroit for Motor City Madness where they will face the winner of top-seeded Wright State and IUPUI. The game begins at 7 p.m.

Southern Door's LeCloux places at women's state tournament

Freshman Katelyn LeCloux became Southern Door’s first women’s wrestling medalist Sunday after taking sixth place at the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation State Tournament in Marshfield. A pin in her first match against Nayeli Garay guaranteed her a podium finish. LeCloux was unable to pick up another win, but according to the Southern Door Wrestling Club Facebook page, she was within a move or two to finish even higher. LeCloux was a varsity reserve at Southern Door this past season, placing at the Cutler Classic, Bay Port JV, and Preble JV tournaments.

Brewers fall to Reds

Christian Yelich homered and drove in a pair but the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Cincinnati Reds Sunday afternoon 11-5 in Maryvale. The Reds struck six times in the first inning off of Brewers hurler Josh Tomlin, including homers by Derek Dietrich and Kyle Farmer. The Brewers would score five unanswered runs thanks to home runs by Yelich, Manny Pina, and Hernan Perez along with RBI doubles by Yelich and Keston Hiura. The Reds would put the game away with three runs in the fourth inning and an extra pair in the eighth. The Brewers get the day off from game action before playing the Colorado Rockies on the road on Tuesday.

Southern Door shocked by Valders AGAIN on 102.1 FM

Southern Door boys basketball was eliminated from the postseason tournament for the sixth time in seven years by the Valders Vikings in a 58-52 devastating defeat Saturday night. The Vikings celebrated on the hardwood at Eagle Gymnasium in front of a shocked Southern Door crowd live on 102.1 FM WRKU.

The Vikings took their first lead in the game with 8:44 remaining in the second half.

Kyle Daoust led all scorers with 23 points. He finished just four points shy of tying Nathan Vogel for the all-time scoring lead in Southern Door school history. Vogel keeps the record with 1,566 points while Daoust finished his Eagles career with 1,562.

The difference in the game was Southern Door's 6/17 free throw shooting.

Derik LeCaptain and Max Pierre each scored ten points and Ryan Claflin tallied seven points in the loss.

Valders was led by Trevor Leist's 23 points. Reese Brown scored 13 points and Fletcher Dallas scored 10 points in the win.

After an (11-10) regular season Valders is back to the sectional semi-final Thursday night in Chilton. The Vikings were just (7-7) in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference but their drive and dish offense again did in the Eagles.

Southern Door loses one of the all-time great senior classes and will leave a gaping void for the program to try and replace next season. The lone representatives left in the tournament from Door and Kewaunee COunties is now Gibraltar playing in Division 5 Thursday against N.E.W. Lutheran.

Gibraltar dominates the regional championship on 105.1 The Viking

Gibraltar went up to northern Wisconsin again on Saturday night and came away with a regional championship on 105.1 The Viking. The number five seed Vikings went to one seed Phelps and shut down their prolific offense. The final score was 63-32 as Gibraltar has now won their three playoff games by 40, 29, and 31 points.

The first few minutes of the game were sloppily played by both teams and neither one had a point in that time. Gibraltar built up a 30-16 lead at halftime and just kept extending that lead throughout the second half. Trevor Reinhardt hit three first half three pointers and ended up leading the team with 13 points. A big key for the Vikings was their two big men, Evan Henry and Brady Ash controlling the inside on defense. Phelps’ top four scorers Gage Robbins, Andrew Gill, Tony Gutierrez and Carl Gutierrez were all very aggressive trying to drive into the paint but would often find the two 6’6” players in the way of the basket.

Gibraltar has won their first regional championship since 1975. The Vikings now advance on to the sectional where they will face off with their Packerland Conference rival Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran. That game will be played on Thursday night in Ashwaubenon. It will be broadcasted on 105.1 The Viking with the pregame starting at 6:45 PM and the tip-off at 7.

Southern Door pushes past Kiel 52-42

Southern Door was tested in their WIAA Division 3 regional semi-final matchup with Kiel broadcast live on 102.1 FM WRKU Friday night. The Eagles trailed until the 14:52 mark of the second half. The #1 seed trailed by as many as ten points in the first half but recovered nicely in the second half.

Kyle Daoust passed his coach Derik Hawkey with 3:48 left to play in the first half as the second leading scorer all-time at SDHS. His 24 points were a game-high. Daoust now trails Nathan Vogel by just 27 points and could become the school's all-time leading scorer in a round two matchup Saturday night against Valders.

Derik LeCaptain tallied 14 points and Ryan Claflin added ten including two rim-rocking dunks in the contest.

Saturday's regional final will again be broadcast on 102.1 FM WRKU and streamed worldwide at DoorCountyDailyNews.com. Join Coach Derik Hawkey and Ben Rikkola for the Quietwoods RV Pre-Game show starting at 6:45 PM tomorrow night.

Gibraltar wins big in Florence on 105.1 The Viking, faces Phelps Saturday

Most would expect a four seed playing a five seed to be a close game, but that was not the case when Gibraltar matched up with Florence on Friday night on 105.1 WSBW. The fifth-seeded Vikings blew out the fourth-seeded Bobcats 70-41 to advance to the WIAA Regional Final. Gibraltar took an 11-point lead into halftime and really played well to extend the deficit in the second half. The Vikings clamped down on defense holding Florence’s top two leading scorers well below their season average. Kaden Schuls and Evan Beaster combine to score over 37 points per game on average and were held to eight points apiece on Friday night.

Gibraltar was led by their senior guard and captain Trevor Reinhardt who scored 17 points. Sophomore guard Luke Steebs gave the team a huge boost with 13 points off the bench.

The Vikings will travel to Phelps on Saturday night, a game that will also be broadcast on 105.1 The Viking. The pregame will start at 6:45 PM and tip-off at 7. The Knights are the number one seed in the region and they knocked off Gillett 63-41 in the regional semifinal.

Storm sees season's end in Denmark

The Kewaunee Storm girls basketball team’s season came to a close Thursday night in Denmark as it lost 46-35 to Kiel. Its 35 points were the lowest it had scored all season long in the Storm’s first loss since January 7th at Wrightstown. Kiel’s Savannah Walsdorf proved to be a difference maker as she scored 20 points in the win. Kewaunee’s season ends with a record of 23-2 including a perfect mark in the conference.

Gibraltar goes the distance for regionals on 105.1 The Viking

The Gibraltar boys’ basketball team has a lot of traveling in store for them this weekend’s WIAA Division 5 regionals. They open up play Friday night against Florence beginning at 7 p.m. It comes after a dominating 81-41 victory on Tuesday against Lena that saw all 15 players get action and 12 get into the scorebook. Evan Henry and Andras Szakala led the team in scoring with 14 points apiece. The Bobcats earned their spot in the regional semifinal with a 78-54 victory over Goodman/Pembine. The goal on defense for the Vikings is to slow down Kaden Schuls’ scoring (20.4 points/game) and Evan Beaster’s dominance on the glass (16.1 rebounds/game).
The team will stay in Iron Mountain, Michigan regardless of the result, but a win will let them wait to see if they travel an hour northwest to face Phelps or drive home to host Gillett on Saturday.

Tim Kowols and Jon Bregman will be in Florence and have the call beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show and the opening tip at 7 p.m. on 105.1 The Viking.

Other local games occurring tonight include Kewaunee traveling to Sheboygan Falls, Sturgeon Bay heading to Denmark, and Southern Door hosting Kiel on 102.1 WRKU. You can find more in-depth coverage on these games and more at DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com.
