Local Shoreland League teams split their games on Tuesday night.

In Algoma, the Guins were down 11 before scratching across their first run in a 13-2 loss to Manitowoc. The Guins were outhit 15-5, two of which registered by Aaron Brey. Jaden Dillar and Jack Peterson both homered in the loss.

Trailblazers edged by Wrightstown

The Ahnapee Trailblazers could not hold onto its 2-0 lead Tuesday night, falling 3-2 to Wrightstown.

The Trailblazers score their two runs in the top of the third inning thanks to a run-scoring by Steven Prescott and a RBI single off the bat of Siggy Hansen. Wrightstown pushed across single tallies in the third, fourth, and sixth inning to steal the victory away.

Ethan Kratcha led the way with two hits while Bo Tanck registered a double in the loss.

Shoreland League Round-Up: Algoma, Casco in action Tuesday night

The Shoreland League is back in action on Tuesday night with two games featuring local teams.

The Algoma 'Guins will be at home against the Manitowoc Bandits while the Casco Athletics will also be home against the Ashwaubenon Lookouts. Both games will take place at 7:30 p.m.

On Monday night, the Kewaunee Chiefs came up short against the Two Rivers Polar Bears 2-0. Both runs came in the third inning as the Polar Bears outhit the Chiefs 8-3. Lincoln Barta, Collin Spranger, and Nathan Havolitz registered the hits for the Chiefs.

Ahnapee outlasts Bay Port Junior Legion

Ahnapee and Bay Port piled up the runs, but the Trailblazers pushed ahead in the end, winning 16-13 Monday night.

The Pirates were up 6-0 before the Trailblazers pieced together a seven-run rally with a Jacob Massey double and a Steven Prescott single in the third inning's biggest blows. After relinquishing the lead in the bottom of the third inning, the Trailblazers added another seven runs on the scoreboard with a Jonah Dahms double the key hit in the rally. It proved to be an important frame as the Pirates outscored the Trailblazers 4-2 from that point on, but it was not enough to overtake them.

Prescott went 3-6 with two RBI while Massey and Dahms each had two hits. Dahms, Ethan Kratcha, Massey, Prescott, and Jack Jeanquart all had multi-RBI games.

Door County League round-up: Sister Bay, Kolberg pick up wins

Two of the top teams in the Door County League kept pace with each other on Sunday with big wins.

Baserunners were a plenty in Sunday's Egg Harbor/Sister Bay matchup, but it was the Bays that cashed in for an 11-4 victory.

Kolberg rallied for eight runs in their final two innings to stun Washington Island at home 9-7.

In Friday's action, Maplewood demolished Institute 16-0 while Baileys Harbor edged West Jacksonport 2-1 in 10 innings.

Rockers enter All-Star break with win

The Green Bay Rockers enter the All-Star break with a 10-5 second-half record after beating the Lakeshore Chinooks  9-4.

The Chinooks jumped out to 4-0 lead before the momentum swung in favor of the Rockers with a six-run fifth inning. The rally was highlighted by a grand slam slugged by Joe Mennella. A two-run single by Caleb Daniel led the way for a three-run eighth inning to put the game well out of reach in favor of the Rockers.

Daniel, JP Peltier, and Mennella all had two hits as the Rockers outhit the Chinooks 10-3 despite committing three errors. Evan Bogart earned the win in relief, allowing no runs on one hit across the final five innings.

Blizzard win rubber match against Steamwheelers

After splitting their first two matchups, the Green Bay Blizzard captured the win on the road against the Quad City Steamwheelers on Saturday night.

The Blizzard outscored the Steamwheelers 16-3 in the first quarter, a stat that proved to be important for the team to hold onto the victory as they were outscored in the second and fourth quarters.

Max Meylor threw for 200 yards and four scores to go along with his 74 yards and three touchdowns on the ground to lead the Blizzard to victory. Four different receivers caught touchdowns for the Blizzard, led by TJ Davis who had five grabs for 88 yards.

Late Comeback Falls Short for Rattlers

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were down by a run with a runner at third and no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon against the South Bend Cubs at Neuroscience Group Field.  The runner was left stranded, and Wisconsin dropped a 5-4 decision to the Cubs.

South Bend (34-53 overall, 11-10 second half) took the lead in the top of the second inning.  Carter Trice doubled and stole third with one out.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Sam Garcia had his glove knocked off by a line drive off the bat of Reggie Preciado.  The ball trickled behind the mound and the only play was an out at first as Trice scored.

Wisconsin (40-46, 6-15) rallied in the bottom of the second.  Juan Baez singled and Kay-Lan Nicasia walked.  Yhoswar Garcia bunted them into scoring position.  An infield single by Blayberg Diaz drove in Baez.  Daniel Guilarte had a sacrifice fly to score Nicasia for a 2-1 lead.

The Cubs rallied in the top of the fourth inning. The first three batters of the inning reached on a single, a walk, and a single to load the bases against reliever Jack Seppings.  Miguel Useche tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right field.  The throw in from Nicasia got away from Blake Burke for an error to put runners on second and third with one out.

The Rattlers brought the infield in to get an out at the plate.  Jefferson Rojas spoiled the strategy with a single through the infield to score two runs to give the Cubs a 4-2 lead.

Eduardo Garcia gave the Rattlers a little hope with a two-out, solo home run to left in the bottom of the fifth.  Garcia’s thirteenth home run of the season was his third hit of the game, left him a triple shy of the cycle, and pulled the Rattlers to within a run.

The game stayed at 4-3 until the eighth when Preciado doubled home a run in the top of the frame to give South Bend an insurance run.

In the bottom of the eighth, Blake Burke singled to start the frame for his 25th multi-hit game of the season.  However, he was erased on a 5-4-3 double play.  Hedbert Pérez restarted the rally with a double, and Juan Baez cashed him in with a two-out single to bring the Rattlers back to within a run.

Wisconsin gave the fans something to cheer in the bottom of the ninth.  Yhoswar Garcia singled, stole second, and went to third on a throwing error to put the tying run 90 feet from home plate with no outs.  Cubs reliever Grayson Moore denied the Rattlers a storybook finish by striking out the next two batters and ending the game on a ground out to first.

South Bend was 6-for-6 with stolen base attempts on Sunday afternoon.  They won five of the six games of the series.

The Timber Rattlers are off for the Major League All-Star Break through Thursday.  Wisconsin returns to action on Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa against the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the Midwest League’s first half West Division Champions.  Game time is 6:35pm.

Door County League set for two games

With one half of the league playing on Friday, the other half of the Door County League is set for their traditional Sunday matinees.

Sunday's matchups include Egg Harbor hosting Sister Bay while Washington Island goes from one end of the peninsula to the other to play Kolberg. Both games begin at 1:30 p.m.

Glory men top AFC Roscoe

The Green Bay Glory withstood the heat to earn the 3-2 win over AFC Roscoe on Saturday.

Tyler Bagley's scored the Glory's first goal with Keven Sosa also helping to give the team a 2-1 halftime lead. Osvaldo Ramirez registered the team's game-winning goal in the second half to give the Glory the win.

Rockers edge Chinooks

A five-run sixth inning helped the Green Bay Rockers sprint past the Lakeshore Chinooks 8-7.

Trailing 7-3, the Rockers used five hits and took advantage of an error to score their five runs. The biggest blow came from a two-run single off the bat of David Ballenilla. Xaige Lancaster had three hits while Eli Selga and  McClane Helton each posted two hits. Gavin Brummund picked up the win with two innings of shutout baseball and two strikeouts.

Rattlers Bite Back with Late Homers

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers watched the South Bend Cubs hit ten home runs and win the first four games of this week’s six-game series at Neuroscience Group Field.  Rattler hitters Hedbert Pérez and Kay-Lan Nicasia let the Cubs know how that felt as they both homered in the bottom of the seventh inning to erase a 2-0 deficit and propel Wisconsin to a 3-2 win on Saturday night.

Tanner Gillis was the Wisconsin starting pitcher as he made his second appearance off the injured list.  Gillis allowed two hits over three scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

The Cubs (33-53 overall, 10-10 second half) broke through in the top of the fourth without a hit and with help from a bout of wildness from reliever Anthony Flores.  The first two batters of the inning walked.  Flores appeared to settle down as he struck out the next batter and was ahead of Ivan Brethowr with two quick strikes.  The next pitch was inside, and the Rattlers appealed on a check swing that was ruled a ball.  Brethowr insisted that the ball had grazed his right leg and – after a brief discussion between the umpires – first base was awarded to Brethowr to load the bases.  Miguel Pabon followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead.

Flores walked the next batter to reload the bases.  Then, he walked Rafael Morel to force in the second run of the inning.

Wisconsin (40-45, 6-14) struggled to get anything going against Cubs starting pitcher Ryan Gallagher, who retired the first sixteen Rattlers he faced in the game.  Yhoswar Garcia singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth to be Wisconsin’s first base runner of the game.

That changed after the seventh inning stretch.  Blake Burke singled to start the inning.  Pérez was at the plate with one out and crushed the first pitch of his at bat to right for a game-tying, two-run home run.  Pérez has eleven homers this season with four of them against the Cubs.

Nicasia stepped in with two outs and none on base to face Gallagher.  Nicasia also jumped the first pitch from Gallagher to launch a go-ahead home run to right-center to give the Rattlers a 3-2 lead.

Wisconsin’s bullpen carried that one-run lead to the finish line.  Yerlin Rodriguez, who had entered in the seventh inning, pitched a perfect eighth.  Aaron Rund got the call for the ninth inning and pitched around a two-out single by Preciado by striking out Morel to end the game.

The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Sam Garcia (1-5, 6.21) is set to start for the Timber Rattlers.  Connor Schultz (0-3, 4.91) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Cubs.  Game time is 1:10pm CDT.

Glory visit Chicago for Saturday match

The Green Bay Glory hit the Fire Pitch in Chicago on Sunday for a match against Edgewater Castle.

Last week, the Green Bay Glory moved into second place in the Wisconsin Cup standings after registering a 1-0 road win over the Milwaukee Torrent.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Blizzard return to action Saturday

After taking the holiday off, the Green Bay Blizzard return to action on Saturday night with a matchup against the Quad City Steamwheelers.

The two teams have split their previous matchups this season, with both winning their respective home games. The Steamwheelers won late to steal a 39-37 win away from the Blizzard in the season opener. The Blizzard got their revenge about a month later with a much more comfortable 47-25 win at the Resch Center.

Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m.

Mets blow past Cubs

A pair of five run innings ended the night early for Maplewood as they beat Institute 16-0 in eight innings.

Leading 4-0 early, the Mets did their damage late with five runs in fifth and seventh innings to put the game away. The Mets outhit the Cubs 12-5 with Mason Kovacs, Adam Gutschow, and Zach Marchant each posting two hits. Four players had at least two RBI, thanks in part to five extra base hits. Logan Schuh paced the Cubs with two hits. Tory Jandrin earned the win, punching out eight batters while allowing three hits across five shutout innings.

Cubs Stop Rattlers 6-2

Jefferson Rojas was too much for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Friday night.  The #3 prospect in the Chicago Cubs minor league system hit a pair of homers to lead the South Bend Cubs to a 6-2 victory over the Rattlers at Neuroscience Group Field.

Rojas gave the Cubs (33-52 overall, 10-9 second half) the lead two pitches into the game when South Bend’s lead-off hitter cracked an 0-1 pitch over the wall in left for his tenth home run of the season.

South Bend added to their lead in the bottom of the second.  Edgar Alvarez doubled off the wall in center to start the inning.  Drew Bowser followed with a triple to right-center to make it 2-0.

Ariel Armas lined a home run to left on an 0-2 pitch from Rattler starting pitcher Manuel Rodriguez to lead off the fourth inning.  The homer was his second of the series and the ninth of the series for South Bend.

Wisconsin (39-45, 5-14) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Jadher Areinamo doubled with one out.  Cubs starting pitcher Erian Rodriguez walked Hedbert Pérez and hit Juan Baez to load the bases.  Tayden Hall drove in Areinamo with a sacrifice fly.

The Rattlers crept closer in the bottom of the fifth.  Blayberg Diaz doubled to start the inning and was still at second with two outs.  Then, Blake Burke drilled a 3-0 pitch to the wall in right for an RBI double.  That double by Burke was the only hit the Rattlers had with runners in scoring position on Friday night.   Wisconsin finished the night 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

The game remained 3-2 as reliever Stiven Cruz held the line against the Cubs through the seventh.  He got the final out of the fourth inning and worked around hits in the fifth, sixth, and seventh.

In the eighth, Cruz gave up singles to Cameron Sisneros and Armas and left the game with runners at the corners with one out.  Bayden Root took over for Cruz and gave up an RBI single to Alvarez.

Rojas struck again in the ninth with a two-run home run to left.  Rojas has hit four homers in this series and this one, in a steadily increasing downpour, sealed South Bend’s fifth straight win.

The Rattlers were outhit 14-7 on Friday night and have been outhit 46-35 in the first four games of this series.

Game five of the series is scheduled for Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Tanner Gillis (1-1, 1.71) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  South Bend has named Ryan Gallagher (4-5, 3.70) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Rockers sweep doubleheader from Rafters

The Green Bay Rockers made the most of their day in Wisconsin Rapids with a pair of wins over the Rafters.

In their 12-8 win, the Rockers built up an 8-0 lead before slowly letting the Rafters back onto the game. JP Peltier, Collin Helms, and Kasin Khansarinia each drove in two runs and Caleb Daniel posted three hits with a double.

In their 7-1 victory, the Rockers scored three times in the second inning and four times in the fourth inning to run away with the game. Eli Selga went 3-4 with a homer and three RBI. Cayden Sheffield also had two hits in the win.

Local baseball round-up: Shoreland All-Stars shuts out Door County

After their All-Star teams battled each other Thursday night, the Door County League and Shoreland League continue their regular season on Friday night.

The Shoreland League shut out the Door County League 5-0 at Joannes Park in Green Bay on Thursday, giving the Shoreland League a 2-1 advantage in the series since the All-Star Game was moved to the ballpark three seasons ago.

Friday night games include Maplewood visiting Institute and Baileys Harbor welcoming West Jacksonport. In the Shoreland League, Casco is at home against Two Rivers, and Kewaunee travels to Denmark. All four games will start at 7:30 p.m.

Burress set for return to Gibraltar sidelines

A familiar face will be on the Gibraltar sidelines again this winter, albeit for a different squad.

The Gibraltar Area School Board is set to hire Justin Burress as its girls' basketball coach when it convenes on July 14th. The team's former coach, Evan DeBroux, resigned in March following the team's first-round exit against Niagara.

The last time we saw Burress was hugging players and their family members following the Vikings boys' magical run to the Kohl Center following their loss to Randolph in the WIAA State Semifinal. The Vikings girls lost five players to graduation last season, including two of their top three scorers.

Rockers look to finish Rafters off as part of doubleheader

The Green Bay Rockers will try to sweep a doubleheader on Friday after the rain shortened Thursday matchup with a 5-0 lead against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

The Rockers scored all five runs in the third inning before the game was forced to be called. An error on a ball hit by Collin Helms sprung the leak for the Rockers, allowing three of the five runs to be unearned.

The Rockers and Rafters will start the shortened game at 3:05 p.m. before playing their regularly scheduled 6:35 p.m. game.

Rattlers Drop 12-3 Decision to South Bend

Nestor Cortes pitched four scoreless innings, allowed three hits, walked none, and struck out two as the starting pitcher for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  The South Bend Cubs scored twelve runs after Cortes left the game and beat Wisconsin 12-3.

Cortes, who was on a rehabilitation assignment from the Milwaukee Brewers, needed just 54 pitches to work his four innings.  The only hits he allowed were an infield single to Cristian Hernandez in the first, another infield single to Hernandez in the fourth, and a single to center by Cameron Sisneros in the fourth.

Wisconsin (39-44 overall, 5-13 second half) took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Hedbert Pérez.  The homer was the tenth of the season for Pérez.

Jaron DeBerry took over for Cortes to face the Cubs (32-52, 9-9) in the top of the fifth inning and retired the first two batters.  The third out was elusive.  Rafael Morel’s sinking liner to left dropped in for a single and DeBerry walked Ivan Brethowr on four pitches.  Jefferson Rojas followed with a single to center to score Morel and send Brethowr to third base.  Yhoswar Garcia tried to throw out Brethowr at third and that allowed Rojas to take second.  Hernandez was next and his fly ball to the track in left-center dropped just out of the reach of Garcia to give South Bend a 3-2 lead.

That lead moved to 4-2 with a two-out, solo home run by Drew Bowser in the top of the sixth.

The Rattlers cut the deficit to one run in the bottom of the inning on a lead-off double by Blake Burke and a two-out, RBI single by Luiyin Alastre.  But that would be as close as the Rattlers would get.

Rojas hit a solo homer in the seventh and Miguel Pabon added a two-run single in the eighth.

The Cubs poured it on in the ninth on a two-run home run by Sisneros and a three-run triple by Brethowr.

South Bend has hit six home runs in the first three games of the series at Wisconsin.  They had three on Tuesday night in their 13-4 win and added three more on Thursday night.

Burke and Blayberg Diaz led the offense for Wisconsin.  Diaz had three hits, including a double.  Burke had two hits, a walk, and scored two runs.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Manuel Rodriguez (0-1, 1.69) is set to start for the Rattlers.  South Bend has named Erian Rodriguez (2-3, 3.00) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Southern Door's Hah added to WIAA Student-Athlete Leadership Team

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association has selected 16 high school student-athletes from across the state that are entering their junior years to serve on the 27-member Student-Athlete Leadership Team for 2025-26.

Southern Door's Portia Hah joins Claire Higgins (Jr., St. Mary Catholic), Emma Resop (Sr., Ripon), Cooper Smith (Sr., Marinette), and Laynie Vaughan (Jr., Wautoma) as District 4 representatives.

Members of the team submitted an application form and a short introductory video to express their interest in serving on the team. The WIAA received 150 applications this spring. The number of representatives from each district is determined by a percentage of member schools in each of the seven districts.

Door County, Shoreland meet for All-Star Game

For the third year in a row, the best of the Door County League and Shoreland League will meet under the lights of Joannes Park in Green Bay for their All-Star Game.

The two leagues have split their last two matchups at the historic Green Bay ballpark. Last year, the Shoreland League threatened late but could never push the tying or winning runs across as the Door County League escaped with a 5-4 All-victory. After a scoreless first inning, Door County struck first when Jack Peterson (Kolberg) drove in Trevor Reinhardt (Kolberg) and Cody Giesseman (Egg Harbor) to make 2-0. Shoreland would cut the lead in half in the third inning when Cal Ihlenfeldt (Kewaunee) singled in Noah Lindsley (Casco). Peterson would strike again in the fourth inning with an RBI single that saw Riley Spetz (Egg Harbor) come around to score. Stew Larsen (Sister Bay) would come through in the fifth with a single that saw Troy Jorgenson (Washington Island) and Spencer Krause (Sister Bay) come around to score to make 5-1. Shoreland would start chipping away at the advantage from there. Trevor Cornell's RBI single brought home a pair in the sixth and Chris Kopic (Branch) singled in another to make it 5-4. Door County's pitchers would come through in the clutch, stranding at least one Shoreland player in scoring position in the final four innings. Door County last great chance came in the eighth inning, but Shoreland doubled up their guests as they threw out Tom Sawyer trying to steal a run to prevent the lead from getting widened. The game-clinching play came in the bottom of the ninth, with the Shoreland League threatening with men on second and third. A slow bouncer to Krause sealed the game late to preserve the victory.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Rockers hook Chinooks to break skid

After a rough Tuesday night that saw them lose two games in walk-off homer fashion, the Green Bay Rockers bounced back into the win column with a 10-3 win over the Lakeshore Chinooks.

The Rockers responded to two Chinooks runs with three of their own in the second inning to take a short-lived lead. After the Chinooks tied the game in the third, the Rockers took the lead for good in the fourth inning with four runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Parker Martin. The Rockers stretched their lead later in the game with two runs in the seventh inning and one more in the eighth inning.

Martin ended his day with three RBI, with Eric Jeon, Kasen Khansarinia, and David Mysza all driving in a pair. All-Star pitcher Koshiro Ohno earned his third win of the season, allowing three runs (3 ER) on four hits and four walks while striking out four across five innings of work.

South Bend Opportunistic in Win Over Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers outhit the South Bend Cubs 9-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  However, the Cubs took advantage of six walks and two errors as they scored two unearned run in a 3-1 win over the Rattlers.  South Bend starting pitcher Evan Aschenbeck buckled but didn’t break over his seven innings of work to pick up the win.

The Cubs (31-52 overall, 8-9 second half) took the lead in the top of the first on three walks, three stolen bases, and a throwing error.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Ryan Birchard walked Ivan Brethowr to start the game with Brethowr stealing second base moments later.  With one out, Birchard walked Cristian Hernandez.

Carter Trice was at the plate when Brethowr and Hernandez pulled a double steal.  Catcher Victor Torres attempted to get Brethowr at third, but his throw hit the bat of Trice, who had not moved the bat from his shoulder after the pitch.  The ball deflected into the Cubs dugout on the third base side of the field and Brethowr was awarded home plate on the error for an unearned run.

Birchard pitched a perfect second, a perfect third, and retired the first batter he faced in the fourth.  However, he would walk Cameron Sisneros, Birchard’s fourth walk of the game.  Sisneros stole second with two outs on an 0-2 pitch to Edgar Alvarez that missed for a ball.  Sisneros singled on the next pitch to drive in Sisneros for a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, Birchard walked Brethowr with one out to end his day.  Birchard walked five, struck out seven, and allowed one hit as he turned the game over to Jack Seppings.

Seppings ran into bad luck right away.  An error allowed Jefferson Rojas to reach, and an infield hit on a slow chopper by Cristian Hernandez loaded the bases.  Seppings bounced back to strike out Trice for the second out.  However, Sisneros blooped a single to left to score Brethowr.  Hernandez was thrown out at third for the final out before Rojas could cross the plate to prevent the Cubs from adding a second run in the inning.

The Rattlers (39-43, 5-12) got to Aschenbeck in the sixth inning.  Juan Baez singled with one out, moved to second on a grounder, and scored on a single by Luiyin Alastre.  Aschenbeck wouldn’t allow anything else.  He scattered eight hits, walked none, and struck out one through his seven innings.

Wisconsin had a chance in the bottom of the eighth against Grayson Moore, who walked Baez and Kay-Lan Nicasia with one out and Tayden Hall with two outs to load the bases.  Moore would get a strikeout to end the inning.  Jackson Kirkpatrick pitched around a two-out single in the ninth to close out the game for his first save with the Cubs.

Alastre and Jadher Areinamo both had three hits for the Timber Rattlers.  Wednesday was Areinamo’s third consecutive game with three hits.

The Rattlers stranded eleven runners in the game and went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Nestor Cortes of the Milwaukee Brewers is scheduled to make a rehabilitation start for the Rattlers.  South Bend has announced Brandon Birdsell, who is on a minor league rehab assignment for the Chicago Cubs, as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Glory women advance to Nationals

The Green Bay Glory kept their 2025 season alive on Tuesday with a 3-1 win over the Milwaukee Torrent as a part of the U.S. Amateur Cup competition.

The Glory waited out lightning delays to get the game in and faced a 1-0 deficit heading into the break. They came out firing in the second half with Lanie Weikert registering a brace and Emily McCarthy adding a goal to her earlier assist to come out ahead.

After winning the regional final against the Torrent, the Glory will wait to see who they will play in the Amateur Cup.

Rockers let two slip against Dock Spiders

The Green Bay Rockers played 10 innings on Tuesday, but lost two games to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 6-4 and 14-12.

Defense and late inning pitching betrayed the Rockers in the contests, committing a combined nine errors while allowing a total of 10 runs in the final innings of play.

In game one, it was a four-run 10th inning that doomed the Rockers as an error and a hit-by-pitch set up a walk-off grand slam for the Dock Spiders.

In game two, the Dock Spiders ended the game with another walk-off homer, this time a two-run shot off the bat of Nate McHugh as a part of a six-run ninth inning. It spoiled a four RBI night for Collin Helms. Cayden Sheffield and Joe Mennella also drove in a pair for the Rockers in the loss.

Cubs Club Four Homers to Beat Wisconsin

The South Bend Cubs hit four home runs on Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field to power their way to a 13-4 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.  The Cubs had thirteen hits and went 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position to take game one of the six-game series.

South Bend (30-52 overall, 7-9 second half) had an early advantage two batters into the game.  Jefferson Rojas gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead with a one-out, solo home run in the top of the first.  Brian Kalmer made it 4-0 with a three-run home run in the top of the second.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Sam Garcia retired the first two Cubs he faced in the top of the third but walked Carter Trice.  Cameron Sisneros followed with a double to left-center to score Trice.  Ariel Armas was next, and he homered to left for a 7-0 lead.

The Rattlers (39-42, 5-11) used a home run of their own to get on the board.  Jadher Areinamo lined a lead-off homer to left to start the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Cubs pounced on reliever Patricio Aquino in the top of the sixth inning to score three runs.  Reggie Preciado had an RBI single, an error by Blake Burke allowed another run to score, and Rojas capped the inning with another RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Rattlers got out to a hot start with three straight singles by Eduardo Garcia, Burke, and Areinamo against South Bend starting pitcher Brooks Caple.  Garcia scored on the Areinamo single.  Juan Baez doubled with one out to drive in Burke.  Tayden Hall added a sacrifice fly to drive in Areinamo.  The Rattlers got no closer.

Sisneros homered to lead-off the top of the seventh against Aquino.  The Cubs added two more runs on soft contact against Bayden Root for a 13-4 lead.

Wisconsin loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning against Kenyi Perez, but they did not score.

The top three hitters in the Wisconsin lineup were 8-for-15 in the game.  Garcia had three hits with Burke collecting two hits in the top two spots in the order.  Areinamo went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.  The homer in the fourth inning was his ninth of the season.

Game two of the series is Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Ryan Birchard (2-5, 4.33) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Cubs have announced Evan Aschenbeck (2-4, 3.46) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 12:10pm.

Rockers outlast Dock Spiders

A first-inning double-play ball hit by Eli Selga proved to be the difference in a 2-1 Green Bay Rockers win over the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders on Monday night.

Offense was hard to come by despite the Rockers giving the Dock Spiders extra base runners via three errors while being outhit 6-5. The two teams traded runs in the seventh inning with the Rockers' McClane Helton matching the Dock Spiders' Jaron Cotton solo shot with one of his own to ensure the home team earned the win.

David Ballenilla had two hits to lead the Rockers. KJ Ward earned the win in relief, allowing two hits across the final three innings while striking out a pair.

NHL Draft highlights Gamblers offseason

The first games are months away, but that does not mean there has not been plenty of the action for the Green Bay Gamblers.

Most of the headlines this offseason have centered around last month's NHL Draft, which saw one of its top players, Aidan Park, get drafted by his hometown Edmonton Oilers with the second-to-last pick. Park will still head to Michigan in the fall to begin his collegiate career with the Wolverines.

Two other Gamblers players were also drafted by NHL teams.

USHL Player of the Year Will Zellers also got some facetime with the NHL during the offseason, joining former Gamblers Casey Mittelstadt, Andrew Peeke, and Mason Lohrei in wearing the black and gold of the Boston Bruins as a part of their development camp.

Zellers is just one of the many Gamblers alums that have made their way to NHL Development Camps this summer.

The Gamblers will play their first home series of the year October 4th and 5th against Team USA. You can see the full schedule below:

Rockers fall hard to Woodchucks

For the second time over the holiday weekend, the Green Bay Rockers lost 10-1 to a Northwoods League foe, this time coming at the hands of Wausau Woodchucks.

An RBI double off the bat of Aidan Kuni provided the lone Rockers run on the day to give the home team the lead in the second inning. The Rockers would go on to give up 10 unanswered runs, including three in the third and ninth innings. Woodchucks third baseman Dylan Schlotterback did most of the damage, going 3-3 with a homer and four runs scored. Dom Rodriguez knocked in four Woodchucks runs with a homer. Despite the offensive outage, the Rockers received multi-hit games from Kuni, Cayden Sheffield, and David Ballenilla. Cole Linton took the loss for the Rockers, allowing five runs (4 ER) on five hits.

Wisconsin Rallies To Win Game Two; Gains Doubleheader Sweep of Sky Carp

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers didn’t tap out on Sunday in game two of their doubleheader against the Beloit Sky Carp at Neuroscience Group Field.  Wisconsin trailed 5-2 heading into their final at bat and scored three runs to tie the game.  Beloit took a lead in the ninth only to see Wisconsin tie the game again.  The Rattlers finally emerged from the game two marathon with a victory as they scored a run in the bottom of the tenth to beat the Sky Carp 7-6 to earn a doubleheader sweep after winning game one 1-0.

Wisconsin (39-41 overall, 5-10 second half) took the lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-out, two-run single by Blayberg Diaz.

Beloit (38-43, 8-7) tied the game in the top of the third inning against reliever Stiven Cruz.  Wilfredo Lara tripled to start the inning with Emaarion Boyd knocking him home with a sacrifice fly.  Jesús Hernandez followed with a homer to left, his first Midwest League home run.

Lara reached on an error to start the top of the fifth but was still at first base with two outs.  Lara stole second on a close two-strike pitch to Eric Rataczak that was called a ball.  Cruz would eventually walk Rataczak to bring Payton Green the plate.

Cruz was up 1-2 in the count, but Green singled to center to score Lara for a 3-2 lead.

The Sky Carp added two insurance runs in the top of the fifth against reliever Aaron Rund, in his first game since June 4.  The rally started with a double by Colby Shade and a walk to Brock Vradenburg.  Lara tripled to right-center to drive in both runs for a 5-2 lead.

Jake Brooks, the Beloit starter, shut down the Wisconsin offense after the second inning.  He pitched six innings and allowed six hits with only one after the third inning.  Brooks walked one and struck out four before turning a 5-2 lead over to his bullpen for the bottom of the seventh.

The Rattlers comeback started with the bottom third of the order.  Tayden Hall started things with a lead-off single against Colby Martin.  Then, Luiyin Alastre drew a walk.  Diaz doubled to knock in Hall to get the game back to the top of the Wisconsin order.

Martin got a strikeout for the first out.  Blake Burke cracked a single through the left side of the infield to score Alastre and send Diaz to third.  Jadher Areinamo tied the game with sacrifice fly to center that was just deep enough to score Diaz with the tying run.

Neither team scored in the eighth, but Wisconsin reliever Jack Seppings had to work through a jam after he walked the lead-off batter to start the top of the eighth with the placed runner already at second base.  Seppings escaped by getting Brock Vradenburg to ground into a 4-6-3 double play and Lara to ground out to second.

In the ninth, Wisconsin’s defense made a difficult situation almost untenable.  Reliever Jeferson Figueroa tried to pickoff Lara, the placed runner at second, with one out.  However, he sailed the throw into center to allow Lara to take third.  Jesús Hernandez was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners.  Hernandez stole second and the throw by the catcher Diaz also sailed into center for an error to allow Lara to score while Hernandez took third.  Figueroa bounced back to retire the next two batters to head to the dugout and hope the offense could keep the game alive.

They did. Eduardo Garcia singled with one out to move Alastre to third base.  Burke launched a deep fly to right to score Alastre with the tying run.  Then, the game went to the tenth.

Figueroa pitched a scoreless top of the frame to give the Rattlers a chance to win the game.  They did, but it was in an unconventional manner.

Pinch-runner Kay-Lan Nicasia started the inning at second base.  Areinamo singled on a 1-2 pitch to right-center, but Nicasia could only advance to third base.  Hedbert Pérez was next and hit a hard grounder to first.  Vradenburg made a diving stop and came up firing to the plate.  However, Nicasia has stayed at third base and all three Rattlers were safe to set up the bases loaded with no outs.

Baez got the first crack and his grounder to second turned into a force play at the plate.

Yhoswar Garcia was able to send the fans home happy.  Jay Beshears fielded a slow chopper up the third base line from Garcia, but his throw home was high and Areinamo scored the winning run to give Wisconsin a doubleheader sweep of their in-state rivals.

Wisconsin also swept a doubleheader from Beloit on May 16 with a pair of 1-0 victories, including a walkoff win in the nightcap of that twinbill.

The Milwaukee Brewers have announced that Nestor Cortes will be the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers as he makes a rehabilitation start.  South Bend has tentatively scheduled Brooks Caple (2-3, 7.53) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Game One Goes to Wisconsin

It wasn’t easy.  It wasn’t routine.  It was a 1-0 Wisconsin Timber Rattlers win over the Beloit Sky Carp in game one of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.

Wisconsin (38-41 overall, 4-10 second half) took advantage of a two-out error to go in front early in the game.  Yhoswar Garcia hit a grounder to shortstop that was booted by Echedry Vargas for an error.  Kay-Lan Nicasia followed with a double off the wall in right to score Garcia for a 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Manuel Rodriguez pitched three scoreless innings in his third start off the injured list.  He needed a little help from his defense.

Connor Caskenette singled to start the second inning but was erased on a 4-6-3 double play after Daniel Guilarte made a nifty pick on a grounder to his backhand.

In the third inning, the first two Beloit hitters – Micah McDowell and Wilfredo Lara – reached on singles.  Jacob Jenkins-Cowart hit a fly ball to medium center and McDowell decided to challenge the arm of Eduardo Garcia by trying to take third.  The attempt was unsuccessful on a strong one-hop throw from Garcia for another double play.

Beloit (38-42, 8-6) had threats to score against Wisconsin reliever Anthony Flores in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings but could not cash in on their opportunities.

Flores walked three batters in the fourth inning, but also struck out three, including McDowell to end the threat.

A walk and a catcher’s interference in the top of the fifth put two runners on base before Flores got a pair of routine fly balls to center.

In the sixth, Flores walked the lead-off batter – his fifth walk of the game.  The defense picked him up with another 4-6-3 double play for two outs.  Flores ended the inning with his fifth strikeout.

The Rattlers loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth on three walks but could not add to their lead.

Jesús Broca took over for the top of the seventh and got the first two outs.  Jenkins-Cowart, the last chance for the Sky Carp hit a hard grounder back through the middle and Broca made a leaping grab.  Broca sprinted to first and excitedly pounded the ball back into is glove.  However, the ball popped free as he tried to get the ball out to flip to first for the final out and Jenkins-Cowart was aboard on an error.

Jenkins-Cowart soon found himself at third base after a pair of wild pitches by Broca.  Disaster was avoided as Broca struck out Jesús Hernandez looking at a 3-2 pitch to end the game and Wisconsin’s four-game losing streak.

Game one marked the third time Wisconsin has beaten the Sky Carp 1-0 in a seven-inning game this season.  The Rattlers beat Beloit 1-0 in both ends of a doubleheader at Neuroscience Group Field on May 16.

Door County League action returns Sunday

With all of the fireworks shows out of the way for now, the Door County League teams will try to provide their own fireworks on four diamonds across the peninsula on Sunday.

Sunday's slate of games includes Washington Island hosting Egg Harbor, Institute traveling to Kolberg, West Jacksonport welcoming Maplewood, and Sister Bay visiting Baileys Harbor.

The first pitch for all four games is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Rattlers Rained Out on Saturday Night

Saturday’s game between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Beloit Sky Carp at Neuroscience Group Field was rained out.  The contest will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at the home of the Rattlers.  Game one is scheduled to start at 1:10pm CDT.

The twinbill is scheduled to be two seven-inning games.  There will be a break of approximately thirty minutes between the end of game one and the start of game two.  One ticket will get you into both games on Sunday afternoon.

Wisconsin has announced Manuel Rodriguez (0-1, 1.86) as the starting pitcher for game one with Tanner Gillis (1-1, 1.89) set to start the nightcap.  Beloit has Luke Lashutka (0-2, 16.62) and Jake Brooks (5-5, 4.28) as their scheduled starting pitchers.

Rockers edge Woodchucks

The Green Bay Rockers scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning to squeak past the visiting Wausau Woodchucks 6-5 Saturday afternoon.

The rally was sparked by a two-run, game-tying homer by Caleb Daniel, setting up Brayden Buchanan for the heroics when he singled in Max Humphrey for the go-ahead run.

David Ballenilla led the way with three hits while Eli Selga and Buchanan each had two hits. Sam Brummund picked up the win in relief with two of the team's seven strikeouts.

Missed Opportunities Haunt Rattlers

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had a great start.  The Beloit Sky Carp had a better finish.  The Rattlers had two runs in, and the bases loaded with no outs in the first inning but could not add on to their advantage.  The Sky Carp broke a 3-3 tie with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings before putting the game away in the ninth to beat Wisconsin 10-3 on Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.

Wisconsin (37-41 overall, 3-10 second half) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning with the first five hitters reaching base.   Eduardo Garcia and Blake Burke walked to start the inning.  Jadher Areinamo singled to drive in Garcia.  Hedbert Pérez drew a walk to load the bases.  Juan Baez followed with a single to left to score Burke.

Beloit starting pitcher Karson Milbrandt was on the ropes, but escaped further damage with a strikeout, a play at the plate on a grounder to first, and a pickoff at first courtesy of his catcher Garret Forrester.

In the Rattlers second inning, they would load the bases with two outs.  Blayberg Diaz started the inning by reaching on an error with Burke and Areinamo coming up with two-out singles.  Milbrandt escaped with a strikeout.

The fourth inning followed a similar pattern as Diaz singled with one out, Eduardo Garcia reached on an error and Burke hit a sharp single to load the bases.  The Rattlers appeared poised to blow open the game.  Areinamo sent a fly ball to left field that was deep enough to score Diaz from third without a play.

However, Garcia tagged from second with an attempt to take third base.  Garcia was out on a strong throw from Jesús Hernandez with the tag on Garcia happening well before Diaz crossed home plate to prevent the Rattlers from adding to their lead.

The Sky Carp (38-41, 8-5) struggled early against Wisconsin starting pitcher Jaron DeBerry.  In the top of the fifth, DeBerry gave up a lead-off single and hit a batter with one out.  Luiyin Alaste made a fine running catch on a deep fly to right for the second out of the inning and there was a way out for DeBerry and the Rattlers.

Then, Eric Rataczak hit the next pitch into the Wisconsin bullpen for a three-run home and a 3-2 lead.

DeBerry allowed three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts over six innings but left with the Rattlers still down by a run.

Garcia brought Wisconsin back to even in the bottom of the sixth inning on a home run to the Beloit bullpen against Brayan Mendoza.  Garcia’s twelfth home run of the season gave the Rattlers some life.

Beloit went back in front in the top of the seventh.  Reliever Patricio Aquino hit Emaarion Boyd with one out.  Hernandez followed with a single.  The duo pulled a double steal and Rataczak took advantage with a sacrifice fly to left to score Boyd with the go-ahead run.

The Sky Carp added an additional run in the eighth inning.  Jay Beshears doubled.  Gage Miller singled to drive in Beshears.

In the top of the ninth inning, Yerlin Rodriguez took over for Aquino and struggled to throw strikes.  A hit batsman and two walks without a strike loaded the bases.  Garret Forrester walked on a 3-1 pitch to force in the first run.  Rodriguez hit Beshears to score the second run with a four-pitch walk to Miller allowing the third run to score.  Rodriguez got the first out of the inning as Brock Vradenburg grounded into a force play at second that scored the fourth run of the inning.  Echedry Vargas made it a five-run inning with an RBI single.

Burke drew a walk in the ninth, but that was the extent of the Wisconsin comeback on Friday night.

Areinamo and Burke led Wisconsin with two hits.  Both have 22 multi-hit games this season for the Rattlers.

Wisconsin stranded ten runners while going 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position.  Beloit left ten men on base while going 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Game two of the series is Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Tanner Gillis (1-1, 1.89) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Beloit has named Luke Lashutka (0-2, 16.62) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Rockers trade routs with Dock Spiders

The Green Bay Rockers beat the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 10-1 on Friday, less than 24 hours after they lost to the same team by the same score.

After trailing 1-0 early in the first inning, the Rockers scored in each of the next six innings, including two runs a piece in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. The scoring was highlighted by a pair of homers from Caleb Daniel, one of which came immediately after Eric Jeon's blast. The other home run never left the yard, but bounced hard off the wall and caught two outfielders out of position to make the play.

Kasen Khansarinia and Collin Helms joined Jeon and Daniel with two hits days on a day when the Rockers tallied 13 walks.

Navigating four errors behind him, Maddox Long lowered his ERA to 1.01 after allowing one run on three his while striking out five across 6.2 innings.

Blizzard idle for holiday weekend

The Green Bay Blizzard will have an extra week to prepare for their next game as they sit idle for the holiday weekend.

Last weekend, the Blizzard were outscored 20-7 in the second quarter en route to a 48-28 on the road against the Arizona Rattlers. Arizona jumped to an early lead and maintained control throughout, fueled by multiple touchdowns from Ron Brown Jr. and two rushing scores by QB Dalton Sneed. Despite a few strong drives, Green Bay struggled with turnovers and failed to capitalize on key moments. Max Meylor had a rare off night for the Blizzard, throwing for 122 yards and rushing for another 48 yards for two total scores. He also had two costly turnovers in the end zone that could have turned the tide for the Blizzard.

Next weekend, the Blizzard will stick to the road to play the Quad City Steamwheelers in Moline, Ill.

Rattlers Go Out of Control in Loss at Beloit

The series finale between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Beloit Sky Carp at ABC Supply Stadium on Thursday night was tough on the visitors.  Wisconsin pitchers allowed twelve runs on ten hits and thirteen walks in a 12-5 defeat at the hands of their in-state rivals.

Beloit (37-41 overall, 7-5 second half) scored three runs on one hit in the bottom of the second inning.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Ryan Birchard, who set down the Sky Carp in order on fourteen pitches in the first inning, walked the first two batters in the second.  A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position.  Birchard got the first out on a popup.  Then, Micah McDowell’s bloop to shallow right dropped in off the glove of second baseman Juan Baez trying to make a tough catch and the runner from third scored.

Birchard walked the next batter to load the bases before getting the second out of the frame on a flyout to center with the runners holding their spots.  However, that was Birchard’s 35th pitch of the inning and 49th of the game.  Wisconsin went to the bullpen for Jack Seppings to try to get out of the frame.

Seppings walked the first two batters he faced to force in two runs before getting the final out of the inning with Wisconsin trailing 3-0.

In the third inning, Jay Beshears hit a two-run home run with one out for a 5-0 lead.

The score moved to 7-0 in favor of the Sky Carp in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases with no outs against Seppings.  The first out was a strikeout.  Then, Connor Caskenette walked with Jay Beshears lining a home run to left.

Wisconsin (37-40, 3-9) managed a rally in the sixth inning after Brandon White, the Beloit starter, left the game.  White pitched five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out four.

Holt Jones, White’s replacement, was not nearly as solid.  Jones walked two of the first three batters he faced in the sixth before getting the second out.  Then, he lost the strike zone as Wisconsin did all their damage without a hit in the frame.

First, Baez drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases.  Tayden Hall also walked on four pitches to force home a run.  Kay-Lan Nicasia was hit by the next pitch to force in another run.  Jones would get a strike to Luiyin Alastre before grazing him with the next offering to give the Rattler their third run of the inning and bring the tying run to the plate.

Beloit called in Xavier Meachem to face Victor Torres, the ninth Wisconsin hitter of the inning.  Torres hit a sharp grounder up the middle that was snagged by Lara at short.  Lara sprinted to second to get the force play on Alastre to end the inning.

Bayden Root, Wisconsin’s third pitcher of the night, kept the Sky Carp off the scoreboard while he was on the mound.  He entered the game in the bottom of the fourth inning and got the final out.  Root would work a scoreless fifth, sixth, and seventh innings while allowing one hit, walking none, and striking out two over his 3-1/3 innings

Miles Langhorne was called in from the Wisconsin bullpen to pitch the bottom of the eighth, but it did not go well.  A lead-off walk to Lara was followed by a two-run home run by Jacob Jenkins-Cowart.  Langhorne walked the next three batters with just two strikes out of thirteen pitches – one of the balls was an automatic ball on a pitch timer violation.  Wisconsin manager Victor Estevez, pitching coach Mike O’Neal, and trainer Paul Gonzales came out to the mound to check on Langhorne after the last walk and that was all for him.

Alastre was called in from right field to try to finish the game.  However, he issued one more walk to force in a run.  Caskenette had a sacrifice fly.  Beshears singled for his third hit of the game to reload the bases.  McDowell added one final run with a single to right.

The Rattlers scored twice in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI double by Blake Burke, who had two hits, and a sacrifice fly by Jadher Areinamo to account for the final score.

Beloit wins this series 2-1 with wins on Wednesday and Thursday night.

The series moves to Neuroscience Group Field on Friday night.  Jaron DeBerry (2-1, 4.20) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Karson Milbrandt (0-4, 3.35) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

Rockers drop second straight

The second half of the Green Bay Rockers' 2025 campaign is off to a slow start after losing 10-1 to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders on Thursday night.

The two teams traded runs in the second inning, but seven runs across the middle innings proved to be too much for the Rockers to overcome. The lone Rockers run scored when David Ballenilla grounded into a double play. The Rockers were outhit 14-6 with Caleb Daniel accounting for two of them.

The two teams are back in action for a holiday matinee of 1:05 p.m.

The Green Bay Glory find themselves in second place in their Wisconsin Cup standings after registering a 1-0 win over the Milwaukee Torrent on the road on Wednesday.

They trail Madison United by one point in the standings after losing 1-0 to them last month. In the other division, Superior City and UD Bateaux are tied at three points with a win and a draw on their ledger.

Rockers' winning streak ends on Lakeshore

The Green Bay Rockers will try to start a new winning streak Thursday night after falling to the Lakeshore Chinooks 2-1 on Wednesday.

An unearned run off a single by Eli Selga was the lone run the Rockers could muster as they were outhit 8-3 by the Chinooks. Xaige Lancaster and Stefan Di Corrado accounted for the other hits.

The Rockers welcome the Dock Spiders for a pair beginning Thursday at 6:35 p.m.

Sky Carp Steal a Win

The Beloit Sky Carp kept the pressure on and the Wisconsin Timber Rattler off the bases in their 4-1 victory on Wednesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  Four Beloit pitchers held Wisconsin to three hits while the Sky Carp offense stole nine bases and took advantage of two Timber Rattlers errors for the win.

Gage Miller put the Sky Carp (36-41 overall, 6-5 second half) in front with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the second inning.

Wisconsin (37-39, 3-8) tied the game by manufacturing a run in the top of the third.  Yhoswar Garcia reached to start the frame by beating out a soft grounder to short.  He stole second and moved to third on a grounder off the bat of Hedbert Pérez.  Jadher Areinamo sent a fly ball to right that was deep enough for Garcia to tag and score the tying run just ahead of the throw to the plate.

Rattlers starter Sam Garcia got the first two Sky Carp batters in the bottom of the third, but a bloop double by Jesús Hernandez extended the inning.  Yiddi Cappe hit a hard one-hopper to third that Juan Baez knocked down but had no play on for an infield single to put runners at the corners.  Then, Cappe would steal second base.  The throw from catcher Blayberg Diaz deflected off Cappe to the outfield and Hernandez scored the go-ahead run.

An error on a grounder to Baez in the bottom of the fifth inning allowed another run to score for Beloit.  That run was set up when Sam Garcia hit Colby Shade with one out.  Shade stole second and went to third on a fly ball to center.  Cappe hit a bouncer toward short.  Baez tried to cut it off to make the play at first.  However, he couldn’t handle the ball cleanly to let Shade score for a 3-1 lead.

The Sky Carp added a two-out run in the bottom of the sixth inning against reliever Yerlin Rodriguez.  Brock Vradenburg drew a two-out, four-pitch walk and stole second.  Emaarion Boyd followed with a double to right for a 4-1 lead.

The Timber Rattlers offense didn’t have a lot going on after the third inning.  Juan Baez singled to start the fourth but was erased on a force play.  That hit by Baez was the last hit of the game for Wisconsin.  The only other base runners for the Rattlers in the game were on a two-out walk to Kay-Lan Nicasia in the seventh and a two-out walk to Baez in the ninth.

Will Schomberg was the winning pitcher for the Sky Carp.  He allowed one run on three hits with two walks and a strikeout over five innings.  Three relievers – Nick Maldonado, Chase Centala, and Colby Martin – closed out the game with each throwing a scoreless, hitless inning.  Martin earned the save by pitching the ninth.

Garcia was tagged with the loss despite allowing just one earned run on four hits.  He walked three, hit one, and struck out three over 4-2/3 innings.

The Sky Carp have 203 stolen bases in 77 games this season.  They are 32-for-35 in seven games against the Timber Rattlers in 2025.

Game three of the series at ABC Supply stadium is scheduled for Thursday night.  Ryan Birchard (2-4, 3.99) is scheduled as the starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  Brandon White (2-3, 6.87) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 6:35pm.

Rattlers Swoop In For A Win at Beloit

Kaylan Nicasia hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.  That homer, an insurance run in the seventh, and solid relief pitching from Stiven Cruz and Jesús Broca propelled Wisconsin to a 3-2 win over the Beloit Sky Carp in game one of the series between the in-state rivals.

Eric Rataczak gave the Sky Carp (35-41 overall, 5-5 second half) a 1-0 lead with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the second inning.  That was the only hit allowed by Wisconsin starting pitcher Manuel Rodriguez.  The Rattler right-hander was making his second start off the injured list and pitched two innings.

Beloit starting pitcher Nick Brink pitched 5-2/3 innings without allowing a run.  He allowed two hits, walked none, and struck out six.

Justin Storm took over for Brink with two outs and none on in the top of the sixth.  Storm was ahead of Blake Burke 0-2 before Burke lined a single to right on a 2-2 pitch.  Storm also got up 0-2 on Nicasia.  Then, Nicasia took a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right for a two-run homer and the Rattlers were up 2-1.  The home run was the first for Nicasia since he had two in a game at Quad Cities on April 10

Wisconsin (37-38, 3-7) added to their lead in the top of the seventh inning.  Blayberg Diaz doubled with one out and took third on a flyout to center.  Hedbert Pérez dropped a bloop single just out of the reach Colby Shade, the Sky Carp centerfielder trying to make a diving catch.  That run would turn out to be important for Wisconsin.

Cruz was also key to the Wisconsin comeback.  He pitched 4-1/3 scoreless innings, allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out four through the middle innings.  Cruz would leave the game after allowing a one-out double to Connor Caskenette in the bottom of the seventh.

Broca was called in from the Rattlers bullpen and got the final two outs of the seventh on grounders to strand Caskenette.

The Sky Carp had two straight singles with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning before Broca retired Yiddi Cappe on a grounder to short.

In the ninth, Rataczak drew a lead-off walk but was erased on a force out after a weak ground ball to second by Caskenette.  Gage Miller singled to bring Wilfredo Lara to the plate as the potential winning run.

Caskenette and Miller pulled a double steal during the at bat to put the tying runs in scoring position.  Lara swung at a 3-0 pitch and grounded out to second to score Caskenette and get Miller to third with Emaarion Boyd next to hit for the Sky Carp.

Boyd popped up a 1-1 pitch to short with Eduardo Garcia squeezing the ball after making the catch for the final out and a Wisconsin victory.  Broca was credited with the save, his third of the season.

The series continues at ABC Supply Stadium on Wednesday night.  Sam Garcia (1-3, 5.59) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Beloit has named Will Schomberg (0-4, 4.75) as their starter.  Game time is 6:35pm.
