The book is officially closed on the 2025 softball season after the Northeastern Conference released its All-Conference Teams over the weekend, placing six Luxemburg-Casco players on the list.

Erin Cherovsky was the lone Spartan on the first team, earning her place from the pitcher's circle. Kate Van Ess (infield), Rylan Kaminski (infield), and Kacie Jorgensen (outfield) were named All-NEC Second Team, while Brianna Bray (outfield) and Lauren Lindsley (catcher) were honorable mention selections.

Rockers have to wait to smush Dock Spiders

The Green Bay Rockers will have to wait until July 8th to potentially secure a 4-2 extra inning win against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders.

Trailing 2-1, the Rockers tied the game in the seventh inning to set up the extra frames. Parker Martin drove in Aidan Kuni on a RBI single and Collin Helms collected an RBI of his own on a sacrifice fly. The game was called heading into the bottom of the 10th due to the weather.

The game will be completed ahead of a regularly scheduled game on July 8th. The game will start at 6:05 p.m. The two teams face each other Monday night at 6:35 p.m. at Capital Credit Union Park in Ashwaubenon.

River Bandits Outlast Wisconsin 5-4

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers dropped a 5-4 decision to the Quad Cities River Bandits on Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field in the final game of the series between the teams.  Blake Burke had three hits, including a home run, and three RBI for Wisconsin.

Quad Cities (45-30 overall, 6-3 second half) took the lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Callan Moss.  Sam Kulasingam hit a solo homer, his first professional home run, in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead.

Burke brought the Rattlers (36-38, 2-7) with a long home run to center in the bottom of the third.  Burke homered twice in the series and has five on the season.

The Bandits added to their lead in the fifth inning.  Canyon Brown reached on an infield single and Kulasingam blooped a single to left.  Daniel Vazquez was at the plate when Brown stole third with Kulasingam holding at first base.  Wisconsin reliever Miles Langhorne threw a wild pitch that let Brown score and Kulasingam to take second.  Langhorne was able to retire the next two batters but a single on an 0-2 pitch by Bryan Gonzalez drove in Kulasingam for a 5-2 lead.

There was bright sunshine with the wind howling out to left at the start of the game.  Then, the wind shifted to blowing in from right field, and the clouds rolled in as the Timber Rattlers raced to come back on the Bandits and beat the impending storm.

The Ratters best chance came in the eighth inning against Tommy Molsky, the fourth Quad Cities pitcher of the game.  Jadher Areinamo reached on catcher’s interference to start the inning.  Marco Dinges drew a walk and that brought Burke to the plate as the tying run.

Burke lined a 2-2 pitch to the corner in right and the crowd cheered an apparent two-run double.

Those cheers turned to gasps as Dinges fell to the ground coming around third base.  He lay face-down on the grass holding his left hamstring and was tagged out by the River Bandits for the first out of the inning.  Dinges was helped off the field.

“It should be okay,” manager Victor Estevez told the Rattlers Postgame Podcast.  “He’s going to need to rest for a little bit.  Maybe by the end of the week we might know what’s going to be his real status.”

Once play resumed Eduardo Garcia blooped a double to right to score Burke and bring the Rattlers back to within a run.  Plus, Garcia was at second with one out.

Molsky closed out the inning with a strikeout and a flyout.

Zachary Cawyer, who had a two-inning save on Thursday night, got the call for the bottom of the ninth on Sunday.  Tayden Hall hit a long drive to right to start the ninth.  Had it been hit earlier in the game, it might have been a home run, but this ball fell short as Carter Frederick made a leaping catch at the wall.  Daniel Guilarte followed with a single up the middle to bring the winning run to the plate.

Cawyer retired Hedbert Pérez on a foul pop and struck out Areinamo to end the game.

Areinamo went 0-for-3 in the game to see his hitting streak end at sixteen games.

The River Bandits hold the edge in the season series at 7-5.  There are still twelve games remaining between the teams this season with six at Modern Woodmen Park from July 22 through 27 and six more at Neuroscience Group Field from August 26 through 31.

The Timber Rattlers return to action on Tuesday with against the Beloit Sky Carp at ABC Supply Stadium in Beloit, Wisconsin.  Wisconsin has announced Manuel Rodriguez (0-1, 1.67) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 6:35pm.

Glory men tie, women lose to Bavarians

The Green Bay Glory were able to salvage one of its two games on Sunday evening in Milwaukee as the women's squad lost to the Bavarians 3-1 while the men played to a 1-1 draw.

The women were tied at zero at the break before both teams were able to find the back of the net in the second half. The Glory men were trailing 1-0 at halftime before registering the equalizer to salvage a point on the road.

An Unfortunate Series of Events Sees Quad Cities Beat Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers somehow found themselves tied with the Quad Cities River Bandits heading into the ninth inning on Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field. Despite collecting one hit after the third inning, the Rattlers battled back from a 4-1 deficit with two runs in the seventh and a run in the eighth.  Then, Wisconsin could not make the pitches or the plays in the ninth inning as the Bandits scored twice to take the lead on the way to a 6-4 win.

Wisconsin (36-37 overall, 2-6 second half) took the lead with a run in the bottom of the third inning.  Blayberg Diaz and Hedbert Pérez started the inning with back-to-back singles put runners on the corners.  A sacrifice fly by Jadher Areinamo drove in Diaz for a 1-0 lead.

Quad Cities (44-30, 5-3) went in front in the top of the fourth.  Daniel Vazquez singled and stole second.  Sam Kulasingam drove in Vazquez with a single to tie the game.  A passed ball and a flyout to right advanced Kulasingam to third bases before Wisconsin starting pitcher Jaron DeBerry walked Carson Roccaforte.  Carter Frederick knocked in Kulasingam with a sacrifice fly for the 2-1 lead.

In the top of the sixth, the Bandits extended their lead to 4-1.  Reliever Jeferson Figueroa walked Kulasingam to start the frame and walked Roccaforte with one out.  Frederick singled home Kulasingam with Roccaforte getting caught between second and third for the second out.  Frederick stole second and scored on a single to left by Derlin Figueroa.

The Rattlers clawed their way back into the game by scraping together a rally in the bottom of the seventh against the Bandits bullpen starting with Nicholas Regalado, who walked Kay-Lan Nicasia and Luiyin Alastre with one out.  Yhoswar Garcia followed with a slow roller to short and was called out on a close play by base umpire John Reed.  Then, Garcia was ejected for vehemently objecting to the call.  Regalado loaded the bases by hitting Blayberg Diaz and was replaced by Dennis Colleran.

Colleran was on the verge of getting out of the inning by getting ahead of Pérez with two quick strikes.  However, his next pitch was missed by catcher Canyon Brown for a run scoring passed ball.  The next pitch went to the backstop for a run-scoring wild pitch and the Rattlers were within 4-3.

In the bottom of the eighth, there was a similar rally.  Blake Burke walked with one out, Juan Baez reached on an infield single with two out, and Nicasia walked to load the bases.  Alastre drew another walk to force in Burke to tie the game and force the Bandits to make another pitching change.

AJ Causey came into the game to face Daniel Guilarte, who entered the game after Garcia was ejected.  Causey missed with his first three pitches and hit the target with his next two pitches to run the count full.  Guilarte popped the payoff pitch to left field for the final out and the game went to the ninth inning tied 4-4.

Tyler Woessner, who entered in the top of the eighth inning to get an inning-ending double play, went back out for the ninth to face the bottom third of the River Bandits order and got ahead of Figueroa 0-2.  But he would walk Figueroa with four straight outside the zone.  Then, the defense went haywire for Wisconsin.

Chris Brito was called on to sacrifice.  The bunt was right back to Woessner, who threw wildly to second and everyone was safe on the play.  Canyon was also called on to bunt.  This time, the bunt went right to Burke, who was charging in from first base and looking to third base.  There was no one at third to take the throw and Quad Cities had the bases loaded as Burke had to hold on to the baseball.

Woessner got the first out on foul pop but walked Vazquez to force in the go-ahead run.  Kulasingam added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly.

There was one final twist in the game, and it came with Diaz at the plate to lead-off the bottom of the ninth.  Causey got ahead of Diaz 0-2 and Diaz asked for his timeout.  Causey missed with his next two pitches and Diaz for a second timeout.  Batters are only allowed one timeout per at bat.  The penalty for asking for a second timeout in an at bat is an automatic strike and that meant strike three on Diaz for the first out.

Causey closed out the game by striking out Pérez and retiring Areinamo on a line drive to third base.

Quad Cities takes a 3-2 series lead heading into the finale on Sunday.

The teams combined to walk fifteen and strand fifteen in the game.

Areinamo added to his hitting streak with a single in the first inning.  He is on a sixteen-game hitting streak, the second-longest streak in the Midwest League this season.

The final game of Udder Tuggers Weekend is Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field featuring a pitching rematch from game one of the series with Anthony Flores (2-3, 4.70) as the starter for Wisconsin and Joh Hansell (0-1, 2.57) set to start for Quad Cities.  Game time is 1:10pm.

After putting up a run in the first inning, the Rockers found themselves down 3-1 entering the sixth inning. They would score one run in the sixth inning before taking the lead in the seventh. The two teams traded runs in the eighth inning before the Rockers could hold off the Woodchucks in the ninth.

Parker Martin and Caleb Daniel each had three hits in the Rockers' win. Daniel and Collin Helms each had solo homers while Eric Jeon and Eli Selga also registered an RBI. Kamar Dove won in relief, pitching two innings of shutout ball while collecting a strikeout.

Brey and the Lodl brothers Chris and Danny each tallied two RBI for their efforts at the plate. In all, eight different A's players drove in at least one run. The A's also took advantage of nine walks and three Cubs errors, the latter leading to four unearned runs. Jared Pflieger's two-out, two-run single in the seventh proved to be the biggest highlight of the evening for Cubs fans. Jaeger Brusky, Robbie Pollman, Pflieger, Johnny Jorns, and Caleb Hoffman all registered hits for the A's.

Rockers escape Wausau with win

The Green Bay Rockers walked the tightrope all the way to the bitter end of an 8-7 win over the Wausau Woodchucks.

The Rockers jumped out to leads of 3-0 and 7-2 before the Woodchucks rallied for four runs in the sixth inning and one more run in the seventh inning. The Rockers tasked Tomas Lopez with getting a three-inning save. He walked the bases loaded with two outs, but he was able to get a groundout to end the game and keep the Rockers in the top spot of the division.

Parker Martin led the Rockers' offense as he has all season long, going 2-6 with a team-high three RBI. Aidan Kuni went 1-4 with two RBI thanks to a home run. The Rockers' pitchers struggled in the contest, walking 14 batters and allowing eight hits.

Torrent torments Glory women

The Green Bay Glory had no answers for the Milwaukee Torrent on Friday night as they fell 3-0.

The Torrent were in control the entire game, scoring two goals in about a seven-minute span to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room. They added one more in the second half to leave Appleton with the 3-0 win.

Pérez Powers Wisconsin Past Quad Cities

Hedbert Pérez gave the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers the lead twice before putting the game away with a grand slam home run in a 7-1 victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits on Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Rattlers designated hitter hit a pair of homers and drove in six runs to even the series with the division leaders at two win each.

Pérez, who was placed in the lead-off spot for the first time since May 18, demolished a 2-2 pitch from Quad Cities starter Felix Arronde for a 423-foot, lead-off homer to give Wisconsin (36-36 overall, 2-5 second half) a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Quad Cities (43-30, 4-3) had a runner at third with no outs in the top of the fifth inning against Wisconsin starting pitcher Ryan Birchard after a walk, stolen base, and wild pitch got Derlin Figueroa to third.  Birchard responded with two strikeouts and a popup to maintain the lead.

The River Bandits would break through against Birchard in the sixth inning.  Daniel Vazquez started the inning with a double.  Callan Moss, the Midwest League leader in RBI, followed with an RBI single to tie the game.  Birchard got the first out of the inning before turning the game over to Jesús Broca.

Broca was a little shaky to start with a walk and an infield single to load the bases before he got Derlin Figueroa to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

In the seventh, Broca committed a balk with runners at first and second with two outs.  He escaped the inning with the score still tied on a grounder to second.

Kay-Lan Nicasia tripled with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to bring Pérez back to the plate with the infield playing in to get the out at the plate.  Pérez singled through the infield to score Nicasia for the 2-1 lead.  Later in the seventh, Marco Dinges singled home Pérez for a 3-1 lead.

Wisconsin put the game away in the bottom of the eighth.  Juan Baez doubled, and Tayden Hall walked.  Daniel Guilarte moved the runners into scoring position with the Rattlers first sacrifice bunt of the season.  Nicasia was hit by the next pitch to load the bases for Pérez.

Three pitches after that Quad Cities reliever Tyler Davis hung a 2-0 pitch and Pérez hit it past The 380 Landing beyond the wall in right for a grand slam and a 7-1 lead.

That was the third slam of the season for the Timber Rattlers.  They have hit two of them against the River Bandits.

Pérez was named the Midwest League Player of the Week on May 19 after his performance in a series at South Bend.  However, he was injured stealing second base in a game against Peoria on May 27.  Tonight was just the ninth game he has played – and only the second time he has played in consecutive games – since May 27.

Game five of the series is Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Jaron DeBerry (2-1, 4.26) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Drew Beam (4-6, 3.03) has been named the starting pitcher for the River Bandits.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Blizzard continue road trip on Saturday

The Green Bay Blizzard's travels take them west on Saturday when they take on the Arizona Rattlers.

Last week, the Fishers Freight avenged their earlier season loss to the Blizzard Saturday night, edging their visitors 57-56. Like their first matchup, the two teams traded scores throughout the half, with most of the drama being saved for the second half. Blizzard quarterback Max Meylor threw two touchdown passes, including one to standout WR TJ Davis, while Freight QB Vincent Espinoza ran for two scores. A blocked extra point gave Green Bay a slim 42-41 edge. Meylor added another rushing TD, and Davis caught his third and fourth touchdowns. Despite a safety and a Freight touchdown pass to Julian Walker, Green Bay quickly answered with another Meylor-to-Davis strike. With 23 seconds left, Fishers stole the victory away from the Blizzard on a last-play touchdown catch by Gourney Sloan.

Kickoff is set fo 8:05 p.m. Saturday.

Cubs, A's battle under the lights Friday

For the third straight weekend, the Door County Baseball League kicks off its slate under the lights when Baileys Harbor visits Institute.

The Cubs struck first in the opening inning after Jaeger Brusky drove home Robbie Pollman on an RBI double, but things went south from there in a 5-1 loss to West Jacksonport last Friday night.  Brusky and Pollman were responsible for all four of the Cubs hits.

Baileys Harbor scored five runs late to stun Maplewood 9-5 on the road. The A's pieced together their first rally in the eighth inning, using a pair of singles and a fielder's choice to score the runs. Owen Dannhausen's single in the ninth added two more insurance to send the A's to the road victory. Caleb Plzak went 2-4 with 2 RBI, Dannhausen had three RBI, and Brey had two RBI.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Rattlers Drop Another Close Contest

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Quad Cities River Bandits slogged through a rain that varied in intensity through the Thursday evening contest at Neuroscience Group Field.  There was even a long delay for lightning that stopped play.  The River Bandits got just enough offense to beat the Rattlers 2-0 to back up their trio of pitchers who combined on the five-hit shutout.

The first run of the game came when Bryan Gonzalez hit a lead-off home run in the top of the third inning to give the River Bandits (43-29 overall, 4-2 second half) a 1-0 lead.  The homer was his third of the season.

Both starting pitchers were really good on Thursday night.  Logan Martin put himself in line for his seventh win of the season by allowing two hits with one walk and four strikeouts over five innings.  Wisconsin starter Sam Garcia struck out six over five innings and also gave up two hits. It’s just that one of those hits was the home run by Gonzalez.

Garcia went back out for the top of the sixth inning and had completed his warm-up pitches when a flash of lightning near the ballpark halted the game.

Play resumed fifty minutes later with Jack Seppings taking over for Garcia on the mound.  Sam Kulasigam singled with one out.  Callan Moss followed with a perfectly placed hit-and-run single to right to send Kulasingam to third base.  Chris Brito drove in an insurance run for the Bandits with a sacrifice fly.

Wisconsin (35-36, 1-5) got something going in the bottom of the sixth inning against reliever Tommy Molsky.  Luiyin Alastre singled and Daniel Guilarte walked to put two on with none out.  Molksy retired the next three batters to stop the rally.

In the bottom of the ninth, a similar pattern emerged against Zachary Cawyer.  Jadher Areinamo extended his hitting streak to fourteen games with a single.  Marco Dinges followed with a single to give the Rattlers the tying runs on base.  Blake Burke hit a slow grounder to the mound and Cawyer’s only play was to first base.  That gave the Rattlers the tying runs in scoring position with one out.  The hope was snuffed out quickly as Cawyer struck out the next two batters to end the game.

The Timber Rattlers trail this series 2-1.  The River Bandits hold the edge in the season series 5-4.

Wisconsin opponents have recorded a save in all five of Wisconsin’s second half losses.

Game four of the series is Friday night.  Ryan Birchard (2-4, 4.22) is slated to start for the Timber Rattlers.  Quad Cities has named Felix Arronde (2-4, 3.07) as their starter.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Former Packer Dillon honored by Assembly

He may not be suiting up for the Green and Gold this fall, but the love for former Packers running back AJ Dillon continues to shine.

Nominated by State Rep. Joel Kitchens, Dillon received the Hometown Hero award from the Wisconsin Legislature earlier this week.

“Around the NFL, AJ Dillon is known as ‘Quadzilla,’ but in Door County, we call him ‘The Mayor,’” Kitchens said, “The Mayor of Door County doesn’t just promote our area, he makes a huge difference in our communities.”

Dillon was not honored just for his on-field success, but what he accomplished off the field. He became an ambassador for Door County, receiving the key and honorary mayoral status from Destination Door County. Dillon and his wife Gabrielle launched the Dillon Family Foundation last July, targeting food insecurity and to support youth. Their “Carry for a Cause” initiative delivered 1,400 backpacks filled with food for children and families in need throughout Door County and Green Bay.

“I am honored to nominate AJ Dillon as a Hometown Hero,” Kitchens said, “At a time when so many of the people our kids idolize end up letting them down, AJ is a person every parent would be happy to have their kids emulate.”

Dillon will suit up for the Philadelphia Eagles this fall.

Rockers shutout Chinooks

The Green Bay Rockers extended their winning streak on Wednesday with an 8-0 win over the Lakeshore Chinooks.

The Rockers wasted no time jumping ahead of the Chinooks, scoring three runs in the first inning and wrapping up most of their scoring by the fourth inning. Caleb Daniel led the way with three hits while Max Humphrey, Collin Helms, and Parker Martin each had two RBI. Humphrey's RBIs came on a two-run homer in the fourth inning. The combination of Alex LePage and Ethan Plog combined to allow just one hit over nine innings while striking out seven batters.

Wrestling tourney restructure among winter sports changes

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control reviewed and acted on several Winter Coaches Advisory Committees’ recommendations impacting season regulations and membership policies at its June meeting today.

Four wrestling recommendations were approved by the Board, including one that restructures the Tournament Series for the 2025-26 season to balance the number of qualifiers across divisions, eliminate the regional round of the tournament competition and replace the Tuesday team sectional with an expanded team sectional on the second Saturday of the Tournament Series. The details for the restructured Tournament Series are available on the WIAA website.

Two of the approved changes impact girls wrestling only. The first allows programs with seven or fewer total wrestlers to request a waiver to have the opportunity to practice with up to three other teams for no more than two times per week during the regular season. The second assigns four regionals per sectional during the Tournament Series beginning in 2025-26.

Another wrestling recommendation approved strikes language for several obsolete regulations for nonvarsity teams with only ninth-grade students.

Several coaches’ recommendations were approved in basketball addressing tournament seeding. Language will be added to the Tournament Procedures in the Season Regulations to include the percentage weight used in the formula for a team’s own win percentage and a team’s overall strength of schedule. The Board also approved a recommendation to release unofficial preliminary electronic seeds for the girls’ tournament in Week 30 and for the boys’ tournament in Week 31. In addition, beginning in 2025-26, head-to-head contest results will be reviewed for all consecutive seeds, and when virtual statistical ties occur among three or more teams, head-to-head results will be reviewed among all respective tied teams.

Another basketball recommendation to be added to the season regulations includes allowing schools to reverse the regulation uniform colors for no more than three home games with mutual consent by each schools’ administration. Furthermore, boys’ regional final games will be required to begin at 4 p.m. or 7 p.m., and girls’ sectional finals will be scheduled for 1 p.m. with an option of a 3 p.m. starting time with WIAA executive office approval.

The basketball coaches’ recommendations to implement the shot clock and expand the State Tournament number of qualifiers to eight in all divisions were voted down by the Advisory Council, and by membership rule, were not advanced to the Board of Control for consideration.

One hockey recommendation reviewed by the Board received approval. In an emergency situation when a team’s goalie is unable to continue because of injury, illness or other unforeseen circumstances, a substitute goaltender may be permitted to enter the game regardless of the day’s previous participation limits of five periods.

The three Sports Medical Advisory Committee recommendations advanced to the Board received support. The first updates the performance enhancing substances listing to remove reference to the NCAA list for cannabinoids, add Selective Androgen Receptor Moderators to the banned substances in the Anabolic Agent section, and to add language to the discouraged listing to include no precursors, sodium bicarbonate supplements and ketone esters. The remaining two approved recommendations adds two nonvoting liaisons to the Sports Medical Advisory Committee, including a sport official from the Officials Advisory Committee and a nonvoting athletic director to be determined with committee input.

In other action taken by the Board, one fast-track conference realignment request received approval that places Manitowoc Lutheran in the Big East Conference from an independent status for girls’ soccer in the spring of 2026. The Board also approved an editorial change clarifying Competitive Balance language in Appendix N of the the Senior High Handbook; a spending resolution to continue spending until the 2025-26 budget is approved; winter season sports financial statements; the 2025 Annual Meeting minutes; and the general fund financial statements and payments for May.

Other meeting discussion and report topics included the recently completed spring sports tournaments; amendments approved at the 2025 Annual Meeting; progress of the Calendar &?Contact Ad Hoc Committee; June Jam and Summer Slam events; powers and duties of the Advisory Council; activities of the Student-Athlete Leadership Team; ongoing efforts to recruit and retain licensed officials, including a report on a recently conducted officials’ survey; an update on the establishment of the WIAA?Foundation; and a reminder of the New Athletic Directors’ Workshop on July 21.

The Board also received liaison reports from Paul Manriquez of the Department of Public Instruction, Dan Rossmiller of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards and Brittany Spencer Grant of the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association.

Wisconsin Win Slips Away as Bandits Rally Late

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored five runs in the first inning against the Quad Cities River Bandits on Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  The River Bandits withstood the early dominance of the Rattlers, waited out a long rain delay in the middle of the game, and got late offense from an unexpected source to defeat the Rattlers 7-6.

Wisconsin grabbed control of the game early with five runs crossing the plate before Bandits starting pitcher Mauricio Veliz got an out.  Eduardo Garcia started the inning with an infield single, and Marco Dinges followed by working a walk.  Jadher Areinamo moved his hitting streak to thirteen games with an RBI single up the middle to score Garcia.  Dinges took third on the hit with Areinamo taking second as the throw from the outfield went through to third base.

Blake Burke made it 3-0 when he drove a double to left that Erick Torres couldn’t haul in for a catch to allow both Dinges and Areinamo to score.  Yhoswar Garcia tripled to the corner in right to score Burke.  Luiyin Alastre lined a single over the drawn-in infield to plate Garcia for a 5-0 lead.

Daniel Guilarte followed with a single and the first seven Rattlers of the game had reached base.  Then, Veliz would retire the final nine Timber Rattlers he would face in the game.

Manuel Rodriguez was the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers in the game.  The right-hander was activated from the Wisconsin IL earlier in the day to make his first start since April 27.  He hit the first batter of the game on the first pitch but would go on to face the minimum over two innings thanks to a double play in the first and three flyouts in the second.

Quad Cities got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning.  Reliever Stiven Cruz walked two batters but had two outs with Salon at the plate.  The catcher, who was making his Midwest League debut, doubled to right to score both runners to pull the River Bandits to within three runs.

In the bottom of the sixth, Yhoswar Garcia doubled and stole third before play was halted by rain.  When play resumed 92 minutes later, Alastre drove in Garcia with a sacrifice fly for a 6-2 lead.

The Bandits put the pressure on in the top of the seventh against reliever Bayden Root.  Carson Roccaforte doubled with one out and Root walked the next two batters.  Salon stepped in a drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

In the eighth, Root again retired the first batter before allowing a single and two walks to load the bases.  Patricio Aquino was called in from the Wisconsin bullpen to protect the 6-3 lead.

However, a walk of Carter Frederick forced in a run and a sacrifice fly by Derlin Figueroa got the River Bandits to within one run and Salon coming back to the plate.

Salon put Quad Cities up 7-6 with a double to the gap in right-center that drove in both runners.  He ended the day 2-for-2 with a walk and five RBI.

Wisconsin tried to rally in the eighth and ninth innings.  Areinamo singled to start the eighth before Roccaforte made a diving catch to rob Burke of a base hit that would have put two in with no outs.  In the ninth, Blayberg Diaz singled with two outs to bring Eduardo Garcia to the plate as the possible winning run.  However, Roccaforte made another diving catch with this one for the final out of the game to seal the Quad Cities comeback win.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Sam Garcia (1-2, 6.91) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Logan Martin (6-3, 4.32) is set to start for the River Bandits.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Rockers move into first with sweep of Mallards

The Green Bay Rockers are now in first place in their division following 8-6 and 4-3 victories over the Madison Mallards.

After trailing in the first game 5-0, Max Humphrey led the comeback with a homer and two RBI. Cayden Sheffield also drove in a pair on a 2-4 day that included a double.

In game two, the Rockers were down 1-0 early before prevailing with a three-run sixth inning. Eli Selga led the way with a homer and four RBI.

The Rockers will battle the Lakeshore Chinooks the next two nights, including a 6:35 road matchup tonight.

Comeback Rattlers Deliver at Home

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers earned their first win of the second half of the Midwest League season.  They really earned it at Neuroscience Group Field on Tuesday night..  Wisconsin trailed the Quad Cities River Bandits 4-0 through 5-1/2 innings and had managed one hit before scoring three runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh.  The Rattlers held on for a 7-6 win.

The River Bandits (41-29 overall, 2-2 second half) took the lead with two runs in the top of the third inning.  Wisconsin starter Anthony Flores walked Sam Kulasingam on four pitches with one out.  Callan Moss doubled a few pitches later to drive in Kulasingam.  Carter Frederick added a run for Quad Cities with a two-out, RBI single to score Moss.

Quad Cities put runners on second and third with no outs against Flores in the top of the fifth on a walk and a double.  Flores got the first out on a grounder to third with the runners holding their bases.  The call was made to the Wisconsin bullpen after that out.

Yerlin Rodriguez entered the game and threw a wild pitch to allow a run to score.  Derlin Figueroa followed that with an RBI double for a 4-0 lead.

Wisconsin’s offense had one hit and one walk against River Bandits starting pitcher Josh Hansell over five innings.  Hansell struck out five and turned that lead over to his bullpen.

The Rattlers (35-34, 1-3) got on the board in the sixth against Juan Martinez.  Tayden Hall singled to start the inning but was at second with two outs.  Marco Dinges hit a slow chopper to third.  Figueroa fired late and wild to first to allow Hall to score.  Blake Burke followed that with a 113.9mph rocket off his bat to the Miller Lite Home Run Porch in right for a two-run homer to pull the Rattlers within a run.

Quad Cities had two base runners in the top of the seventh inning against reliever Tyler Woessner.  However, both runners were caught trying to steal second base.  Dinges made an incredible throw to just get Figueroa for the second out.  Then, Jadher Areinamo made an even more incredible pick and tag combination on Bryan Gonzalez on a short-hop throw from Woessner on the mound after Gonzalez took off early from first base.

Yhoswar Garcia got Wisconsin going in the bottom of the seventh with a bunt single.  Martinez got the first out on a grounder that moved Garcia to second with the tying run.  Quad Cities went to the bullpen for Jacob Widener.

Widener walked Kay-Lan Nicasia and hit Hall to load the bases.  A wild pitch allowed Garcia to score the tying run.  Juan Baz sent a grounder to short with the infield in, but Nicasia was able to score the go-ahead run when the ball got away from catcher Canyon Brown.

Areinamo extended the lead and his own hitting streak with an RBI single to plate Hall.  Areinamo is now on a twelve-game hitting streak to tie Burke for the longest hitting streak by a Rattler this season.

Wisconsin scored their final run of the inning when Dinges beat out a potential inning-ending double play to allow Baez to cross the plate for a very important run to give the Rattlers a three-run advantage.

Woessner had two outs with none on in the eighth inning before issuing a walk and a single.  The call went to the Wisconsin bullpen for Jesús Broca to face Moss.

Moss won the battle with a two-run single to right to cut Wisconsin’s lead to a single run.  Carson Roccaforte made bid for a hit as the next batter, but Yhoswar Garcia made a sliding catch to end the inning.

Broca was all business in the ninth as he retired the Bandits in order, including a game-ending strikeout, for his second save of the season.

The Rattlers won despite being outhit by Quad Cities 14-7.  The River Bandits stranded eleven runners in the game.

The series continues on Wednesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Manuel Rodriguez (0-1, 1.80) is the announced starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Quad Cities plans to send Mauricio Veliz (3-3, 4.99) to the mound.  Game time is 12:10pm.

Muskego's Fourth Straight Title Among Four Girls State Soccer Champions

The WIAA Spring Tournament Series concluded with the crowning of girls soccer champions in four divisions with hot and gusty wind conditions at Southeast Sales Powersports Stadium at Uihlein Soccer Park Saturday.

Top-seeded Muskego (21-0-2) becomes just the third program to win four championships in a row following a 1-1 tie and a 3-0 advantage in a shootout over third-seeded Madison West (16-3-3) in the Division 1 final.

Following a scoreless first half, the Warriors scored an unassisted goal at the 44:56 point of the second half. Kiara Muech found the right side of the goal off a rebound from a shot at the top of the box. The Regents evened the score at 74:26 on an unassisted goal by Elsie Watson after controlling a loose ball in the box and lifting it over the goalkeeper.

Muskego had the only shot on goal in the two overtime periods, which was saved, requiring the shootout to determine the champion.

Savannah Mittelstaedt was the winning goalkeeper for the Warriors, allowing the one goal in regulation while making four saves. She also stopped the three attempts in the shootout. Adah Lambeck allowed one goal and made one save in the game for the Regents. Nola Maughan and Catherine Arnold each had a game-high two shots on goal for Madison West.

Madison West had an 8-7 edge in shots, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Regents also had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Muskego wins the program’s fifth State championship overall in its 10 tournament appearances, and Madison West finished runner-up in its 13th experience at State.

Second-seeded Brookfield Central (14-5) edged top-seeded Pewaukee (13-9) 2-1 to claim the State title in Division 2.

Quality shots were hard to come by in a scoreless first half, but Dylan Romero of Brookfield Central broke through to break the tie at 46:30 in the second half with a shot into the left side of the goal off a nifty assist from Megan Rauch inside the box. The Pirates tied the game at 1-1 with a goal by Hannah Sorkness that crossed the box inside the left post following a pass from Peyton Stading. The Lancers regained the lead at 68:58 when Alexandra Rossi fired an unassisted shot from 12 yards out into the right side of the goal, which proved to be the game-winner.

Pewaukee had a slight advantage in shots at 13-11, but Brookfield Central had an 8-7 edge in shots on goal. The Pirates also had the advantage in corner kicks at 5-3. Charlotte Vaughan led all players with four shots for the Lancers. Rossi and Kara Delisle each had a pair of shots on goal. Annie Robinson made six saves in goal and allowed one score to be credited with the victory. Kylie Rameker and Addi Burkemper each attempted three shots to lead the Pirates in that category. Brookfield Central won its seventh State championship in its 15th tournament appearance. Pewaukee finished runner-up in its first State experience.

Catholic Memorial (20-2-1), the top seed in the bracket, defeated second-seeded Edgewood (15-4-2) in the Division 3 championship game, 4-2.

Edgewood led 1-0 following a goal by Lauryn Matenaer at 25:21 in the first half. Her shot from the left wing crossed over into the right side of the goal off an assist by Natalie Cavanaugh. Catholic Memorial tied the game before halftime at 34:29. Margaret Sisk knocked in a shot within the box on a deflection off the crossbar on a shot by Claire Weber, who was credited with the assist.

The second half began with a flurry of scoring, beginning with a goal by Weber just 26 seconds into the period off an assist from Sisk, and then Julia Rothermel scored Catholic Memorial’s third goal less than two minutes later at 42:07 on a header off a corner kick by Weber. Edgewood reduced its deficit to 3-2 at 44:23 on Matenaer’s second score of the game on a pass into the box by Sonoma Bever, which was directed into the goal. The same combination on CMH’s third goal struck again on a corner kick at 45:10 of the second half to account for the final score.

Catholic Memorial had a decided advantage in shots at 18-7, shots on goal at 9-5 and corner kicks, 8-0. Rothermel recorded a game-high five shots, and Weber had three shots on goal, scoring once and distributing two assists to lead CMH. Jenna Welsch was credited with the win in goal, yielding two goals and making three saves. Matenaer led Edgewood with two goals on three shots. Sonoma Bever also had three shots–two on goal–and an assist. Caroline Onderak started in goal for Edgewood and played the first 34:29 of the game, surrendering a goal and making five saves before leaving the game with an injury. CMH won its membership-leading 11th State championship in the 17th appearance by the Crusaders. Edgewood, also nicknamed the Crusaders, finished runner-up in its eighth State experience.

In Division 4, top-seeded Xavier (20-3-1) captured the crown with a 2-0 win over third-seeded Ozaukee/Random Lake (13-7-4) in the tournament final.

The Hawks put the first goal on the board at 3:56 in the first half. Sydney Neilitz placed a grounder into the net at the right corner from straight away with an assist from Kate Jannette for a 1-0 Xavier lead.

Xavier added an insurance goal at the 54:48 in the second half. Helayna Krueger scored an unassisted goal from the left side of the box that caromed off the right post and into the goal for a 2-0 Hawks’ lead.

The Xavier defense stymied the Ozaukee/Random Lake offense by allowing just one shot attempt in the game and no shots on goal. The Hawks recorded an overwhelming advantage in shots at 12-1, including 9-0 lead in shots on goal. Neilitz and Kayla Standish each had a game-high four shots on goal for Xavier. Abigail Anderson was the winning goalkeeper without having to make a save.

The Hawks attempted eight corner kicks, and Ozaukee/Random Lake was held without an attempt.

Rebecca Kraemer played the entire game in goal for Ozaukee/Random Lake, allowing two goals and making seven saves.

Xavier won the State championship for the fourth time– the first in Division 4–in the Hawks’ 12th appearance in the tournament. Random Lake/Ozaukee finished runner-up in its first appearance as a co-op program.

Rockers bounce back against Mallards

One day after being the victim of the first-ever individual no-hitter in Warner Park history, the Green Bay Rockers took home the win on Sunday, beating the Madison Mallards 5-3.

The two teams traded runs early, leaving the Mallards with a 3-2 lead after five innings. Aidan Kuni's homer tied the game, and a RBI double off the bat of Eli Selga gave the Rockers a lead they would not relinquish in the sixth inning. A David Mysza run-scoring single gave the Rockers an insurance run late before the bullpen locked things down on Green Bay's getaway day.

Max Humphrey and Cooper Smith each had two hits while Avery Duncan earned the win in relief, pitching 4.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Glory posts mixed results against Bavarians

The Green Bay Glory battled the heat and the Bavarians for a pair of matches on Sunday at the Banta Bowl.

The Glory women battled the Bavarians to a 2-2 draw while the Glory men fell to the Bavarians 3-1.

Rockers no-hit by Mallards

Offense was hard to come by in a 1-0 win for the Madison Mallards over the Green Bay Rockers on Saturday.

Liam Moreno's RBI single in the third inning was the lone run scored by either team in the game. Nate Voss posted the lone multi-hit game.

The Rockers could not even get a base hit in the game, with Mallards pitcher Isaac Milburn striking out 10 batters and walking two in nine innings.

Blizzard edged by Freight

The Fishers Freight avenged their earlier season loss to the Green Bay Blizzard Saturday night, edging their visitors 57-56.

Miller Time for West Michigan against Wisconsin

The West Michigan Whitecaps held the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a single run on Saturday night at LMCU Ballpark for a 4-1 victory.  Wisconsin had an early lead but could not hold off the team with the best record in the Midwest League.  Joe Miller pitched six innings of scoreless relief to earn his second win without allowing a run against the Rattlers this season.

The teams traded runs in the first inning on a pair of two-out, RBI singles.

Jadher Areinamo doubled with one out in the top of the inning against Alex Lange, a Detroit Tigers pitcher on a rehab assignment as the Whitecaps starter.  Eduardo Garcia singled with two away to score Areinamo with the go-ahead run for the Rattlers (34-33 overall, 0-2 second half).

Wisconsin starting pitcher Ryan Birchard hit Seth Stephenson to start the bottom of the first.  Stephenson stole second and went to third on a grounder by Kevin McGonigle.  Birchard struck out Max Clark for the second out.  Then, Josue Briceño’s blooper to center dropped in just out of the reach of centerfielder Yhoswar Garcia to drive in Stephenson with the tying run.

West Michigan (46-21, 2-0) went in front in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Birchard walked Josue Briceño to start the inning.  Austin Murr singled to right with one out to put runner on the corners.  Birchard got a strikeout for the second out with Murr stealing second to give the Whitecaps two runners in scoring position.  Peyton Graham had a full count against Birchard and hit a grounder just to the left of Areinamo at third base.  Areinamo made a diving stop on the ball, but his throw to first was late and Briceño scored the go-ahead run.

Kevin McGonigle and Max Clark singled to start the bottom of the fifth.  That put runners at the corners again and chased Birchard from the game.  Jesús Broca relieved Birchard to face Briceño, who drove in McGonigle with a sacrifice fly to center for a 3-1 lead.

The Rattlers fought their way back into a threat against reliever Joe Miller in the top of the sixth.  Marco Dinges reached on an error with one out.  Then, Tayden Hall singled with two outs and Yhoswar Garcia walked to load the bases.  Miller got a strikeout to end the inning.

Kay-Lan Nicasia started the Rattlers seventh inning with a triple, but Miller stranded him there by retiring the next three batters.  Miller pitched six scoreless innings, walked two, allowed three hits, and struck out eight.  He has struck out seventeen Rattlers in eleven scoreless innings over two appearances against the Rattlers this season.

Tyler Woessner pitched the bottom of the seventh for the Timber Rattlers and got the first out with a strikeout.  However, a walk, a hit batsman, and an infield single loaded the bases for West Michigan.  The Whitecaps scored an insurance run on a wild pitch by Woessner before he struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

Luiyin Alastre singled with one out in the ninth inning for his second hit of the game.  Carlos Lequerica, the fourth pitcher of the night for the Whitecaps, got the second out on a strikeout.  Lequerica got the final out when McGonigle, who is 3-for-9 at the plate in the series, made a great play on Blayberg Diaz on a slow chopper to shortstop to prevent the Rattlers from getting the tying run to the plate.

The final game of the series – and of Wisconsin’s two-week road trip to Michigan – is Sunday afternoon at LMCU Ballpark.  Jaron DeBerry (2-1, 4.43) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Whitecaps have listed Hayden Minton (1-1, 3.18) as their starter.  Game time is 1:05pm CDT.

Baseball Champions Crowned Thursday

Four teams earned titles at the 2025 State Baseball Tournament Thursday at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

Muskego (23-9), the seventh seed, overcame a seventh-inning deficit to win the Division 1 championship with a 5-4 walk-off victory over eighth-seeded Badger (23-8) in the final.

With the bases loaded on walks with one out, Danny Hauboldt was hit by a pitch to score the tying run, and then Carter Nicolato reached on a fielding error, which scored Ben Kuglitsch from third for the game-winner.

Badger scored first with two runs in the first inning on a wild pitch and a groundout. The Warriors scored a run in their half of the inning on a Callen Tomsyck RBI single.

The Badgers broke the 2-2 tie in the third inning with two runs coming on an infield throwing error by the Warriors and on a ground out. Muskego drew within a run with an RBI single by Kyle Rogosienski in the sixth inning, which set up the seventh-inning dramatics.

Rogosienski had a game-high two hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Warriors’ offense. Jake Kardelis pitched four no-hit innings in relief to earn the victory on the mound.

Badgers’ Matthew O’Grady drove in two runs with a pair of groundouts for an offense that was held to two hits in the game.  Connor Kavanaugh, who came on for the seventh, was charged with the loss.

Muskego wins its second State title. The Warriors’ first championship and five previous appearances came during the summer season when WIAA sponsored a tournament. Badger finished runner-up in its first State appearance.

Top-seeded New Berlin Eisenhower (24-5) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the walk-off win over third-seeded Seymour (26-4) in the Division 2 championship game.

After a leadoff walk, Sam Hirthe belted a game-winning double to left field, driving home Carter Hollenback.

New Berlin Eisenhower never trailed in the game. The Lions took a 4-0 lead in the third inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, they scored on a hit batter, and then Hirthe delivered the big blow with a two-run single. They added another run in the inning on a Thunder error.

Seymour knotted the score at 4-4 in the fourth inning. Micah Byers slugged a two-run double, and Colten Nieland tied the game with a two-run, two-out single. The game remained scoreless until Hirthe delivered the winning heroics.

Hirthe led the Lions offensively with two hits and three RBI. Hirthe also started on the mound for the Lions and was credited with the win, tossing six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. Max Nemoir pitched a scoreless seventh inning in relief and was credited with the win. Brady Poch led the Thunder with a pair of hits and a run scored, and Nieland and Byers both drove in two runs. Brayden Banker yielded the run in the seventh to be saddled with the loss.

New Berlin Eisenhower earned the State title for the first time in the program’s history. The Lions’ one other State Tournament appearance came when they sponsored baseball in the summer. Seymour finished runner-up in its first experience at State.

In Division 3, top-seeded Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic (23-7) edged third-seeded Kewaunee (18-6) 3-2 in the championship game. The Lancers improved on last season’s runner-up finish to win the title.

The game was closely contested throughout. After Kewaunee scored first with an unearned run in the top half of the fourth inning, the Lancers tied the game in their half of the inning following a triple by Patrick Davidson, who scored on a base hit by Mason Ballard. The Storm regained the lead in the fifth inning after Toby Kunkel doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly, but the Lancers scored to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning on a Kewaunee fielding error. Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic scored what proved to be the winning run in the sixth inning after two were out with three straight singles.

Zach Rizzo started and was credited with the win, hurling six innings and striking out six. He yielded two runs, one earned, on four hits. Dominic Santarelli tossed an inning of hitless relief to record the save. Seven different players accounted for the Lancers’ seven hits in the game. Waylon Delain suffered the loss in relief for the Storm; Brady Pribek started and went 3 1/3 innings and gave up one run on four hits. Connor Kilgore drove in a run with a single to lead the Storm offense.

It was the fifth time Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic has won a State championships in the program’s nine tourney appearances, and Kewaunee finishes runner-up its first experience in the State Tournament.

Second-seeded Johnson Creek (24-6) plated three runs in the top of the first and never trailed in their 5-0 victory over top-seeded Pacelli (26-5) in the Division 4 championship game. After a walk to start the game, Tanner Herman belted a one-out triple to drive in the game’s first run. Zach Holland followed with an RBI triple and later scored on a fielder’s choice. The Bluejays added insurance runs in the third and fifth innings, and a pair of Bluejay pitchers held the Cardinals scoreless.

Dugg Harwig tossed six innings and yielded just two hits and struck out three to earn the victory on the mound for the Bluejays. Aiden Smith secured the combined shutout with a scoreless inning of relief. Luke Hartz and Holland each collect three hits to pace the Bluejays’ eight-hit attack. Smith drove in a game-high three runs on a sacrifice fly and a pair of groundouts.

Blizzard visit Freight

The Green Bay Blizzard start their road trip on Saturday with a visit to the Fisher Freight at 6:05 p.m.

Last weekend, the Green Bay Blizzard dominated the Jacksonville Sharks 75-43 during Military Appreciation Night. After a tight first half led by strong rushing from both QBs, Green Bay took control with explosive plays, including a kickoff return touchdown and key turnovers. Max Meylor led the way for the Blizzard, scoring eight total touchdowns while throwing for 179 yards and rushing for another 39.

Rockers top Jacks

The Green Bay Rockers took the second game of their series against the Battle Creek Jacks on Friday, 8-5.

The Rockers scored all eight runs before the Jacks could scratch one across themselves. A three-run homer by Cayden Sheffield in the third inning and RBI doubles by Sheffield and David Ballenilla provided the biggest punches the Rockers would land against the Jacks before they started their rally. The Jacks matched the Rockers' three runs in the eighth inning, and they scored twice more in the ninth before the Rockers could secure the victory by striking out the batter that represented the game-tying run.

Aidan Kuni continued to rake against the Jacks with three hits while Caleb Daniel, Parker Martin, Sheffield, and David Mysza all had two hits in the Rockers' win.

Rattlers Drop Second Half Opener 5-2 to Whitecaps

Marco Dinges provided the power again for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, but the West Michigan Whitecaps wound up with the 5-2 win on Friday night at LMCU Ballpark.  The Whitecaps had a 4-0 lead before Dinges struck with a monstrous home run and added an insurance run after the blast by the Rattlers catcher to win the second half opener for both teams.

West Michigan (45-21 overall, 1-0 second half) took the lead in the bottom of the third.  Seth Stephenson reached on one-out, infield single and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Kevin McGonigle doubled to center to drive in Stephenson and took third on an error on the play.  Max Clark drove in McGonigle with a sacrifice fly for the 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin (34-32, 0-1) had one hit against West Michigan starter Rayner Castillo.  Jadher Areinamo doubled with one out in the top of the fourth to move his hitting streak to nine games.  Castillo walked Blake Burke on a 3-2 pitch to put the tying runs on base.  However, Castillo got out of the inning when Marco Dinges grounded into a 4-6-3 double play.

Luke Gold doubled the lead for the Whitecaps with a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth.

Castillo left after getting the second out in the top of the sixth.  He walked one and struck out four on 63 pitches.

The Rattlers got on the board against reliever Ty Mattison in the top of the seventh.  Areinamo walked to start the inning.  Dinges was up with one out and he pulverized a pitch from Mattison past the flagpole beyond the wall in center for a two-run homer.  Dinges has homered in all three games in this series and has six in 25 games since joining the Rattlers.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Whitecaps got one of those runs back.  Patrick Lee started the inning with a single, stole second, stole third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bennett Lee.

The Whitecaps bullpen closed out the game with a perfect eighth from CJ Weins and a perfect ninth from Colin Fields to give them a 2-1 lead in the series.

Wisconsin was held to three hits by West Michigan for the second game in a row.  On Friday, the Rattlers had one at bat with a runner in scoring position.

The teams continue the series on Saturday night at LMCU Ballpark.  Ryan Birchard (2-3, 4.08) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Joe Miller (4-2, 2.72) is the announced starting pitcher for the Whitecaps.  Game time is 6:05pm CDT.

Rockers jacked in Battle Creek

The Green Bay Rockers saw their winning streak come to a halt on Thursday night, falling to the Battle Creek Jacks 14-6.

The Rockers jumped out to a 2-0 lead before giving up eight unanswered runs, including five in the fourth inning. The Jacks put up another four runs late, making two late runs by the Rockers futile in their comeback attempt.

Caleb Daniel led the way going 1-4 with a homer and two RBI. Max Humphrey paced the Rockers in the hit department with two. Alex LePage took the loss on the mound for the Rockers, allowing seven runs (5 ER) on five hits while striking out three.

Whitecaps Beat Wisconsin in First Half Finale

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had a strong start against the West Michigan Whitecaps on Thursday Night at LMCU Ballpark with a two-run homer by Marco Dinges in the first innings.  The Whitecaps wiped out that 2-0 lead with two runs in the second, took the lead with a two-run homer of their own in the third, and went on to a 5-2 victory in the first half finale for both teams.

The Timber Rattlers (34-31) struck first.  Jadher Areinamo moved his current hitting streak to eight games with a one-out single.  Dinges followed with an opposite field home run to the Wisconsin bullpen beyond the wall in right for a 2-0 lead.  Dinges has homered five times in 24 games with Wisconsin.

West Michigan (44-21) tied the game in the bottom of the second inning.  Josue Briceño, the Midwest League leader in home runs, launched a lead-off shot to right for his fourteenth of the season.  Izaac Pacheco followed with a single but was still at first base with two outs.  Patrick Lee lined a double to the gap in left-center on a 1-2 pitch to drive in Pacheco with the tying run.

The Rattlers tried to rally in the top of the third inning as Tayden Hall drew a lead-off walk and Dinges singled with two outs.  West Michigan starting pitcher Andrew Sears got the final out of the inning to keep the game tied.

Kevin McGonigle gave the Whitecaps the lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third.

McGonigle added to the lead for the home team with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.  John Peck, the West Michigan leadoff batter, tripled to start the fifth, his third hit of the game.

The Rattlers offense never got going again after the third.   Four Whitecap pitchers retired the final nineteen Wisconsin hitters in order to close out the game.  Sears set down the final seven he faced and picked up his fifth win of the season.  Marco Jimenez pitched two perfect innings in relief.  Preston Howey struck out two over a perfect eighth.  Micah Ashman worked a 1-2-3 ninth with two more strikeouts for his second save.

Wisconsin outfielder Eduardo Garcia went 0-for-3 in the game and did not reach base to see his on-base streak end at 27 games.

Thursday’s game started late as the teams waited to see if an approaching storm would hit the ballpark.  However, the rain never materialized, and the game began after a 43-minute delay.

The series is even at 1-1 after the rainout on Wednesday night.

Game three of the series – and the first game of the second half of the season – is Friday night at LMCU Ballpark.  Sam Garcia (1-1, 7.71) is scheduled to start for the Timber Rattlers.  Rayner Castillo (1-3, 5.44) is set to start for the Whitecaps.  Game time is 5:35pm CDT.  The radio broadcast on AM1280, WNAM and internet audio starts with the pregame show at 5:15pm.

Storm finish season state runner-up on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm baseball team will come home with some new silver for the high school trophy case after falling late to Kenosha St. Joseph 3-2.

Pitcher Brady Pribek was able to escape some jams early while the Storm's offense struggled to get its footing, leaving one man in scoring position stranded in each of the first three innings.

The Storm struck first in the fourth inning after Diesel Bosdeck was able to reach on an error. After stealing second and advancing to third on a pop-up, Bosdeck scored on a passed ball to make it 1-0. The Lancers offered their retort in the bottom half of the inning with Mason Ballard following up a Patrick Davidson with an RBI single to tie the game at one. The Storm provided its response in the top of the fifth inning with Connor Kilgore driving in Toby Kunkel on a sacrifice fly, but the Lancers responded with a run of their own in the bottom half on an error. The Lancers took their first and only lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as they strung together three straight singles, capped off by the game-winning hit by Tim Falk. The Storm were set down in order at the top of the seventh to end their season.

Ethan Paplham, Kilgore, Alec Carlson, and Kunkel registered the hits for the Storm, with Kilgore collecting the lone RBI. The pitching combination of Brady Pribek, Jackson Walecka, and Waylon Delain kept the Lancers in check, allowing three runs (2 ER) on seven hits and one strikeout.

The Storm finished the season 18-6 with a Packerland Conference, regional, and sectional title, along with the silver state runner-up trophy for the case at school.

Five Softball Champions Crowned Saturday

The 2025 State Softball Tournament produced champions in five divisions at Goodman Softball Complex on Saturday.

Second-seeded Kaukauna (27-0) capped an undefeated season to win the Division 1 title for the fourth time in the past five years and for its sixth time overall. The Galloping Ghosts made the most of their one hit in a 1-0 victory over former defending champion and top seed Kenosha Bradford (29-2).

The Vikings took control of the game in the second inning, scoring two unearned runs to take a 3-0 lead. The Eagles scored their lone run in the sixth inning, but Denmark added an insurance run in the seventh to clinch the win.

Shaelyn Kraschnewski went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a triple and a run scored to lead the Vikings’ hitting attack. She also recorded a save, pitching the two innings of scoreless relief. Maggie Frank earned the victory, surrendering a run on five hits in five innings.

Aeryn Messmann led the Eagles offensively with a pair of hits and a run scored. Ashlyn Enke started in the circle and was charged with the loss, allowing three runs–two unearned–on three hits in four innings.

It’s the Vikings’ fifth championship in nine State appearances, and Jefferson finishes runner-up in its fifth State experience.

Kiran Sanford pitched a complete-game shutout for the Indians, allowing just one hit and striking out 20, which set the Division 4 record for a single game. Her 31 strikeouts in the two games of the tournament also set the division State record.

After Kasey Brouchoud doubled with one out in the ninth inning, Sierra Skarda drove home courtesy runner Ella Gnadt from third for the only run of the game.

The loss spoiled a brilliant outing by Peyton Mancl, who suffered the loss for the Cardinals after allowing six hits and striking out 13 in the game.

Mishicot won its second State title in its seventh appearance, and Pacelli was runner-up in its 13th State experience.

The Braves scored three times in the first inning on a pair of hits and an error on the Eagles. They gained control of the game in the third inning with four runs on five hits to increase their lead to 7-0. They added a run in the fourth inning before Almond-Bancroft scored once in the sixth inning and twice in the seventh inning to account for the final score.

Four players collected singles for the Eagles, and Riya Ceballos was charged with the loss, giving up seven runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings.

It’s the third State title for Belmont in eight tournament appearances. Almond-Bancroft finishes runner-up in its third State experience.

Storm, Lancers meet in WIAA State Baseball

The Kewaunee baseball team is one win away from adding gold to its trophy case, but they will have to beat top-ranked Kenosha St. Joseph to do it Thursday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

Big hits from Brady Pribek and Connor Kilgore and a strong outing from Brett Paulsen helped the Storm beat Fennimore 5-3 Tuesday afternoon. Ethan Paplham posted two hits in the win for the Storm with Paulsen and Pribek responsible for the other two hits. Paulsen earned the win while Delain picked up the save with two scoreless innings. Manager Dan Spranger was proud of how his team responded to adversity during the game after being put down in order during the first three innings and committing two errors, but added that they would have to work on things during their Wednesday practice to make sure they perform even better on Thursday.

The Storm will now face top-seeded Kenosha St. Joseph in the DIvision 3 title game after they toppled Barron 14-4 in five innings, put the game away in the fifth inning with eight runs. Catcher Peter Visconti led the way with three hits and three RBI in the win for the Lancers. Spranger said they are the number one team in the state for a reason.

Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate will have the call again on Thursday on 104.1 WRLU with the pregame show at 11:45 a.m. followed by the first pitch at noon.

Glory women beat rain, Kics

The Green Bay Glory weathered the storm and the Chicago Kics as they posted a 1-0 win Wednesday.

The Glory are back in action on Sunday when they host Bavarians at the Banta Bowl at 3 p.m.

Rattlers Rained Out in West Michigan

Wednesday’s game between the Wisconsin Timber Rattler and West Michigan Whitecaps at LMCU Ballpark was rained out.  The game will not be rescheduled.  The teams will resume their series with the final game of the first half on Thursday night.

There is no need for a doubleheader on Thursday night between the teams since the Whitecaps clinched the first half East Division title and the Rattlers were eliminated from playoff contention in the West Division last weekend.

Anthony Flores (2-2, 3.91) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers on Thursday night.  Game time is 5:35pm CDT.

Rockers blow out Chinooks

The Green Bay Rockers used an eight run third inning to sprint past the Lakeshore Chinooks on Tuesday night 20-7.

The Rockers were already leading the game 4-0 entering the frame, but the Chinooks scored twice in the top of the third to cut the lead in half. The team responded with eight runs by taking advantage of four hits, an error, and a collection of walks. The Rockers would put the game well out of reach with four more runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth inning.

Caleb Daniels, Collin Helms, and Parker Martin each had two hits while Aidan Kuni led the way with four hits and four RBI in the win. Braden Gebhardt earned the win in three innings of work, allowing two runs (2 ER) on five hits.

Rattlers Crash Whitecaps 10-2

The Wisconsin Timber Rattler continued swinging on their road swing through Michigan by beating the West Michigan Whitecaps 10-2 on Tuesday night at LMCU Ballpark.  Marco Dinges, Jadher Areinamo, Eduardo Garcia, and Yhoswar Garcia all contributed big hits for the Rattlers while Jaron DeBerry and two relievers held the potent Whitecaps offense to two runs on four hits.

West Michigan (43-21) struck first.  Kevin McGonigle lined a double off the wall in right-center with one out in the bottom of the first.  Josue Briceño drove in McGonigle with a bloop single to center with two outs to give the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead.

The teams traded solo homers in the second inning.  Dinges launched a home run, his fourth since joining the Timber Rattlers on May 20, to start the top of the second for Wisconsin to tie the game.  Austin Murr hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the second to put West Michigan back in front.

The Timber Rattlers took the lead in the top of the fourth.  Blake Burke singled and Dinges reached on an error.  Eduardo Garcia followed with a triple to center to score both runners for a 3-2 lead.

Garcia also moved his on-base streak to 27 games with that triple.  He has the longest on-base streak in the Midwest League this season and has tied Robert Moore for the longest on-base streak by a Rattler since the franchise moved to the High-A classification in 2021.  Moore had his 27-game on-base streak in 2023.

Whitecaps pitcher Max Alba retired the first two batters in the top of the fifth inning and was ahead of Juan Baez 0-2. Baez would draw a walk and Areinamo crushed the next pitch from Alba for a two-run homer and a 5-2 lead.

Wisconsin added two more runs in the top of the sixth on a two-run double by Yhoswar Garcia against reliever Haden Erbe.

In the eighth, Baez drew a bases loaded walk and Areinamo added a two-run single for a 10-2 lead.  Areinamo drove in five runs on Sunday at Great Lakes to give him nine RBI in his last two games.

DeBerry, the Wisconsin starting pitcher, only allowed a two-out walk in the third inning after the home run by Murr in the second.  DeBerry struck out six over five innings in the game to earn his second straight win.

The Wisconsin bullpen tossed four scoreless innings to close out the game.  Bayden Root allowed a hit and struck out three in three innings.  Jack Seppings, who joined the Rattlers from the Carolina Mudcats earlier in the day, needed five pitches to get three ground outs in the ninth inning to close out the win.

The Timber Rattlers are 5-2 on the first seven games of their twelve-game trip to Michigan.  They have scored ten runs in a game three times on the road trip and have scored a total of 49 runs on the road trip.

Wisconsin is also 18-7 in their last 25 games and has reached four games over .500 for the first time this season.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Wednesday at LMCU Ballpark.  Game time is 5:35pm CDT.

On Monday, they advanced in the Amateur Cup with a 3-0 win over DeKalb United. Trudy Quidzinski struck first for the Glory with a penalty kick goal to give them a 1-0 lead before the break. Storm baseball earn title game berth vs. Lancers on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm baseball team is one win away from its first-ever state title after beating Fennimore 5-3 Tuesday afternoon.

After the two teams traded scoreless innings through the first three frames, the Storm was able to strike first in the fourth inning. After Ethan Paplham singled and Brett Paulsen reached on an error, Brady Pribek sent one to the wall for a triple to make 2-0. The Golden Eagles responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth inning courtesy of a Gianni Filardo sacrifice fly.

The Storm posted their second big rally in the fifth inning. After Micah Vanness and Paplham reached on walks, Connor Kilgore hit the ball over the head of outfielder Casey Dresen for a double, only to come around to score on an error by Filardo to make it 5-1. The Golden Eagles would once again have a retort, this time posting two runs on a passed ball and an RBI single by Corey Dresen. Paulsen ended his day on a high note, striking out Casey Dresen looking for his eighth strikeout of the afternoon after allowing three runs (2 ER) on seven hits.

Both teams would go scoreless over the final two innings, but not without some drama. The Golden Eagles had the tying run at the plate when Macoy Miles popped the ball up into foul territory where Toby Kunkel was able to track it down, but not before a slight bobble caused the crowd at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium to gasp before the final out was finally secured.

Paplham posted two hits in the win for the Storm with Paulsen and Pribek responsible for the other two hits. Paulsen earned the win while Delain picked up the save with two scoreless innings.

Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate will have the call again on Thursday on 104.1 WRLU with the pregame show at 11:45 a.m. followed by the first pitch at noon.

Storm, Golden Eagles meet in state semi-final on 104.1 WRLU

The Kewaunee Storm makes its first appearance in the WIAA State Baseball Tournament Tuesday afternoon when they played the second-seeded Fennimore Golden Eagles.

The two teams are both first-timers to the grand stage of the WIAA State Baseball Tournament. The Storm punched their ticket with a 1-0 win over Chilton in the sectional semifinal before outlasting Wittenberg-Birnamwood 6-5 in the sectional final. That pushed the record of the reigning Packerland Conference champions to 17-5 on the season. The Golden Eagles improved to 25-3 with extra inning to defeat Westby 3-2 in the final of the Osseo-Fairchild Sectional to advance to the State semifinals.

While this is the Storm's first visit to the state baseball tournament, it is not the first time that they have played at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, Wis. They have scheduled at least one game at the home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers each of the last four seasons. Manager Dan Spranger says a day like Tuesday is why they scheduled those games.

Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate will have the call on 104.1 WRLU and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 2:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 2:30 p.m. The winner takes on the winner of #1 Kenosha St. Joseph Cath. (21-7) vs. #4 Barron (20-9).

The women scored two minutes, but could not hold on in a 2-1 loss to start the doubleheader.

Dominic Lagona, Tyler Bagley, and Osvaldo Ramirez engineered a comeback contest that saw the Glory come back from three goal deficit to lose 4-3.

Areinamo Drives in Five To Lead Rattlers Past Loons

Jadher Areinamo broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning to give the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers a 2-1 lead against the Great Lakes Loons Sunday afternoon at Dow Diamond.  Areinamo added a two-run single in the seventh and another two-run single in the eighth to collect five RBI to lead the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 10-4 victory over the Loons.

Wisconsin (33-30) scored first.  In the top of the second, Loons starting pitcher Maddux Bruns walked Luiyin Alastre and Tayden Hall to start the inning.  A 4-6-3 double play got Bruns two outs while moving Alastre to third.  Kay-Lan Nicasia was at the plate with a 1-2 pitch due and Bruns threw a wild pitch to allow Alastre to score.

The Loons (32-31) responded in the bottom of the second on back-to-back doubles by Jake Gelof and Jordan Thompson.

Great Lakes threatened to take the lead in the second, but catcher Blayberg Diaz picked the lead runner off third for the second out before pitcher Ryan Birchard got the final out on a grounder to short.

Birchard was in trouble again in the third inning when he walked Josue DePaula to start the inning.  DePaula stole second and third before Birchard walked Mike Sirota to put runners on the corners with no outs.  The Rattlers escaped unscathed in the inning when Zyhir Hope popped out, Sirota was caught trying to steal second, and Birchard struck out Logan Wagner.

Patricio Aquino was the first Wisconsin reliever, and he pitched a perfect fourth but had two runners on with two outs in the fifth inning.  Aquino struck out Hope to end that threat and keep the game tied.

The Rattlers went in front in the top of the sixth against Brooks Auger, the third of eight pitchers used by the Loons in the game.  Juan Baez started the inning with a single.  Areinamo doubled to the corner in right to drive in Baez with the go-ahead run.  Later in the inning,  Yhoswar Garcia doubled home a run for a 3-1 lead.

Areinamo, who had four hits in the game, had another chance with runners in scoring position with two outs in the seventh and added two insurance runs with a single for a 5-1 lead.

Thompson homered to start against Jesús Broca in the bottom of the seventh to pull the Loons within three runs.

Then, Wisconsin pulled away in the eighth as Alex Makarewich walked in a run with the bases loaded and his replacement Jorge Gonzalez walked in another run with the bases loaded.  Areinamo knocked in two more runs with a single for a 9-1 lead.

Tayden Hall, who walked three times in the game, tacked on an RBI single in the top of the ninth off Reynaldo Yean, the seventh Loons pitcher on the afternoon.

Miles Langhorne, who got the final two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, gave up a pair of two-out, RBI singles in the top of the ninth inning before closing out the game with a strikeout.

Wisconsin hitters banged twelve and walked eleven times.

Eduardo Garcia moved his on-base streak to 26 games with a double in the top of the first inning.  Garcia holds the longest on-base streak in the Midwest League.  He entered the day tied with Rattler teammate Blake Burke for the longest streak in the league at 25.

The Timber Rattlers have won four straight series and are 17-7 in their last 24 games.

The Rattlers continue their road trip to Michigan on Tuesday with the first game of a six-game series against the West Michigan Whitecaps at LMCU Ballpark in Comstock Park.  Game time is 5:35pm CDT.

Door County Baseball League returns with Father's Day slate

The games include Washington Island playing at home against Institute, West Jacksonport hosting Sister Bay, and Kolberg traveling to Maplewood.

Loons Stop Rattlers With Seventeen Strikeouts

The Great Lakes Loons were, well, great with two outs on Saturday night against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Dow Diamond.  The Loons scored eight runs with two outs to defeat Wisconsin 9-2.  Additionally, four Loons pitchers combined to strike out seventeen Rattlers while holding them to five hits in the game.

Great Lakes (32-30) took the lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Josue DePaula reached on a walk with one out and went to second on a passed ball.  Mike Sirota drove in DePaula with a single.

Tayden Hall tied the game in the top of the second inning with a two-out, solo home run, his first homer of the season.

The Loons had two on with two out in the bottom of the second with Frank Rodriguez, their ninth hitter in the order at the plate.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Sam Garcia had two strikes on Rodriguez, but a catcher’s interference loaded the bases.  Kendall George made the Rattlers pay with a bloop single to left that scored two runs.

In the bottom of the third, Jake Gelof doubled to left to score two runs for a 5-1 lead.  A walk to the next batter brought Rodriguez back to the plate and he doubled to score two more runs.

Great Lakes wasn’t done with two-out, two-run hits.  George stepped to the plate with runners at second and third with two away in the fifth inning.  George singled to center to score both runners for a 9-1 advantage.

Eduardo Garcia provided one late highlight for the Timber Rattlers (32-20).  The Wisconsin outfielder, who had extended his on-base streak to 25 games when he was hit by a pitch in the second inning, launched a lead-off home run in the top of the seventh inning.  Garcia has eleven home runs this season.  He has also tied teammate Blake Burke for the longest on-base streak in the Midwest League this season.

Sean Linan, the Loons starting pitcher, had seven strikeouts over 4-2/3 innings.  Wyatt Crowell, the winning pitcher, had seven strikeouts for Great Lakes in three innings.

Also, with the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Quad Cities River Bandits winning their games on Saturday, Wisconsin has been officially eliminated from first-half playoff contention in the Midwest League’s West Division.  The Timber Rattlers will need to win the second half title to make a return trip to the postseason.

The series finale is Sunday afternoon at Dow Diamond.  Ryan Birchard (2-3, 4.08) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Brooks Auger (2-4, 5.74) is set to start for the Loons.  Game time is 12:05pm CDT.

Rockers walk off Pit Spitters

A two-run homer by Max Humphrey helped the Green Bay Rockers walk off the Traverse City Pit Spitters 10-9 Saturday afternoon in Green Bay.

Most of the scoring happened after the Pit Spitters built up a 2-0 lead entering the seventh inning. The Rockers scored five times, capped off Humphrey's three-run bomb. The Pit Spitters tied the game at 5-5 with a three-run inning in the eighth before Humphrey's heroics in the ninth.

The two teams play each other again at Capital Credit Union Park at 1:05 p.m.

The Knights won four State titles, which was the most of any school, and they were the only program to win three straight championships (2003-2005). They added another summer title in 2012. The Knights finished atop the Southeast Conference standings this year, and they advanced through the South Milwaukee Sectional with a 3-0 shutout over Union Grove in the final. Hartford, the sixth seed in the bracket, returns to the State Tournament for the second time in three years and for the ninth time overall. The Badgers are the co-champions of the Southern Lakes Conference with Waterford this year.

THE DIVISION 2 FIELD:  Top-seeded New Berlin Eisenhower makes its first State appearance in the State tourney held in the spring. The Lions made it to State once when they sponsored baseball in the summer, which resulted in a loss in the 1989 quarterfinals. They are the champions of the West Division of the Woodland Conference this spring. The Lions notched a 7-3 victory over Pewaukee in the Waterford Sectional to earn the berth in the State semifinals.  Aquinas moves up a division this season after winning the Division 3 title last season and finishing runner-up in 2023. They added additional Division 3 crowns in 2009 and 2021 to give them four State titles. The Lancers also won several championships as a former member of WISAA, winning titles in 1965, 1970, 1977, and 1988. This season, they finished atop the standings in the Metro Classic Conference. The Lancers advanced to State through the Kohler Sectional following a 4-0 blanking of Cedar Grove-Belgium in the final. Second-seeded Fennimore is a first-time qualifier to the State Baseball Tournament. The Golden Eagles needed an extra inning to defeat Westby 3-2 in the final of the Osseo-Fairchild Sectional to advance to the State semifinals. They were crowned champions of the Southwest Wisconsin Athletic Conference in the spring. Third-seeded Kewaunee will also experience the State Tournament for the first time after beating Wittenberg-Birnamwood 6-5 in the final of the Chilton Sectional. The Storm was the champion of the Packerland Conference this year. Fourth-seeded Barron is back at State for the seventh time and for the first time since 2008. The Cardinals’ experience in 2003 was the most notable,  winning the Division 3 championship in their first-ever trip to State. During the regular season, they were the co-champions in the South Division of the Central Wisconsin Conference standings with third-seeded Pittsville. The Cardinals earned the return trip to Grand Chute by downing Lena 8-1 in the sectional final hosted by Pacelli.  Johnson Creek, the second seed in the bracket, is back in the final four for the second year in a row and for the sixth time overall. The Bluejays have advanced to the championship game twice, winning the Division 4 title in 2007 and finishing runner-up in 2012. They finished first in the South Division of the Trailways Conference this spring. The Bluejays cruised to a 9-1 win over Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah in the sectional final played at Oakfield to continue their quest for a State title. Pittsville is seeded third. The Panthers have made their first appearance at State since 2014 and are fourth overall. They seek their first victory in the tournament, having been ousted from title contention in the semifinals in each of their previous three experiences.  They rolled to a five-inning, 13-3 win over Highland in the Blair-Taylor Sectional finals to return to the State semifinals. The Panthers are the co-champions of the South Division of the Marawood Conference with top-seeded Pacelli this season. The Wildcats are the champions in the South Division of the Marawood Conference this year.

Emotions Run High in Rattlers Win at Great Lakes

Tensions snapped in the ninth inning of an emotional game between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Great Lakes Loons with a bench-clearing incident Friday night at Dow Diamond.  When play resumed, Miles Langhorne, the newest Rattler reliever, stayed cool and preserved a 6-4 victory for starting pitcher Anthony Flores, who worked six innings for the first time in his professional career.

There were two outs with none on base in the top of the first inning when Blake Burke worked a ten-pitch walk against Great Lakes starting pitcher Payton Martin.  Marco Dinges was next and lined a double to right that put runners on second and third.  Hedbert Pérez followed with a double to right-center to give Wisconsin (32-29) a 2-0 lead.

Martin walked Yhoswar Garcia on ten pitches and left the game with an injury.  Christian Ruebeck took over and got the final out of the first inning.

Great Lakes (31-30) tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the second.  Jake Gelof doubled with one out,  Joe Vetrano knocked in Gelof with a single.  A wild pitch by Flores moved Vetrano to second.  Carlos Rojas evened the score with a two with a two-out single to left.

The Timber Rattlers went back in front in the top of the fifth inning.  The Rattlers had runners at the corners after singles by Tayden Hall and Juan Baez.  Jadher Areinamo doubled to left to score Hall with an errant throw on an attempt to get Areinamo at second allowing Baez to score.  Then, Blake Burke singled to drive in Areinamo for a 5-2 lead.

Flores ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth.  The speedy Kendall George beat out a routine grounder to short with one out.  Flores walked the next two batters to load the bases.  He escaped the jam by getting Kyle Nevin to tap back to the mound to start a 1-2-3, inning-ending double play.

The left-hander would toss a perfect sixth inning to end his night.  He scattered seven hits, walked two, and struck out five.

The Loons turned up the pressure on Bayden Root, the first Wisconsin reliever, as the first three hitters in the seventh reached on two singles and a walk.  Root stopped the Loons rally with back-to-back strikeouts of Zyhir Hope and Mike Sirota and a soft lineup to first by Nevin.

In the bottom of the eighth, Logan Wagner doubled and stole third.  Gelof walked but was out trying to steal second with Wagner staying at third base.  Then, Root hit Vetrano to put runners on the corners.  Jordan Thompson drove in Wagner with a sacrifice fly to get the Loons to within two runs.  Root ended the inning with a strikeout.

The Timber Rattlers added an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Daniel Guilarte doubled, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch by Reynaldo Yean.  The Rattlers carried that 6-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth with Yerlin Rodriguez taking over on the mound for the save opportunity.

Rodriguez was called for a pitch timer violation with Kendall George coming to the plate to start the inning.  That got Rodriguez going and he missed the next two pitches for a 3-0 count.  George, the #12 prospect in the Dodgers system, was stepping out of the box as Rodriguez was making the next offering and the ball was way inside on the left-handed hitter.  George and Rodriguez were yelling at each other with George being restrained as the benches and bullpens cleared.

The situation appeared to calm down but there was another situation with a screaming match in in right field that led to benches clearing again.  The umpires would give ejection to George and Rodriguez.  Play would resume about ten minutes later when Langhorne was ready to go as the emergency closer.

Langhorne fell behind Hope, the Dodgers #3 prospect, 3-0 but fought back to a full count.  Then, Hope lined a double to left-center.  Pinch-runner Wilman Diaz raced for the plate with a good relay throw from Guilarte beating him home.  However, Dinges couldn’t handle the throw and Diaz scored to cut Wisconsin’s lead back to two runs with the tying run at the plate.

The first out of the inning came when Langhorne struck out Mike Sirota.  Then, Nevin walked on four pitches to bring the winning run to the plate.

It wouldn’t matter on this night.  Langhorne got the final two outs with two huge strikeouts of Wagner and Gelof to earn his first Midwest League save.

Great Lakes stranded eleven runners and went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position on Friday night.  Wisconsin pitchers have held Great Lakes to 8-for-46 with runners in scoring position in the first four games of the series.

Wisconsin leads the series 3-1.  The Rattlers are three game over .500 for the first time this season.

Game five of the series is Saturday night at Dow Diamond.  Sam Garcia (1-0, 3.38) is set to be the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Loons have named Sean Linan (0-1, 2.79) as their starter.  Game time is 6:05pm CDT.

Baileys Harbor battles Egg Harbor under the lights

The second night game of the Door County Baseball League campaign heads north, where Egg Harbor travels from the bayside to the lakeside to face Baileys Harbor.

The A's and the Indians are coming off an off week after rain washed away the entire DCL slate. After lopsided losses in their previous games, the teams are looking for a palate cleanser. Adam Gutschow's home run and eight Egg Harbor errors helped the Maplewood Mets win 10-2 against the Indians, while the Kolberg Braves scored at least four runs in three innings en route to an 18-0, eight-inning game against Baileys Harbor.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Rockers bit by Dock Spiders

The Green Bay Rockers continue to hover around the .500 mark after losing to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 5-3 at Fox Cities Stadium on Thursday.

A hit-by-pitch and a fielder's choice gave the Rockers an early 2-0 lead, but the Dock Spiders used three hits to score four runs to take control of the game for good with a 4-2 mark. The two teams traded runs the rest of the way with the Dock Spiders scoring an insurance run in the fourth inning and the Rockers cutting the lead in the seventh inning.

David Belenilla went 2-3 as the only Rockers player with multiple hits while Jalan Jones' 1-4 day led to him leading the Rockers with two RBI.

The Rockers return to action Friday night against Dock Spiders in Fond du Lac.

DeBerry Earns First Pro Win As Rattlers Pull Away Late at Great Lakes

Jaron DeBerry allowed two runs on four hits and struck out seven over 5-2/3 innings as the starting pitcher for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday Night at Dow Diamond.  The Rattlers were clinging to a 4-2 lead over the Great Lakes Loons before the offense pulled away with five runs in the top of the ninth for a 9-2 victory that gave DeBerry his first professional win.

Wisconsin (31-29) stole a run in the first inning to take the lead.  Juan Baez worked a walk after falling behind 0-2 to start the game against Loons starter Luke Fox.  Jadher Areinamo followed with a bloop single to right to send Baez to third base.  Areinamo took off early with the left-handed Fox looking right at him.  Fox threw to first and Baez timed his break for the plate perfectly as first baseman Joe Vetrano made his throw to second to get Areinamo.  Baez scored without a play for the 1-0 advantage.

The Rattlers added to their lead in the fifth inning.  Yhoswar Garcia started the inning with a bunt single, stole second, and stole third.  Blayberg Diaz blooped a single over the drawn-in infield to score Garcia for a 2-0 lead.

Then, Fox allowed singles to Luiyin Alastre and Juan Baez to load the bases.  Areinamo and Blake Burke followed with consecutive sacrifice flies to make the score 4-0.

DeBerry pitched a perfect fifth inning and retired the first Loon he faced in the sixth.  However, the top of the Great Lakes order got something going as Kendall George singled and Josue DePaula walked.  DeBerry recorded the second out of the inning with his seventh strikeout.

Zyhir Hope, the #42 prospect in baseball, was next and DeBerry was ahead in the count 1-2.  However, Hope laced a double to right-center on the next pitch to score both runners to cut Wisconsin’s lead to two runs.

Jesús Broca ramped up the drama when he replaced DeBerry in the sixth and walked the first batter he faced before Joe Vetrano lined out to left.

The drama was turned up even more when Patricio Aquino entered the game for Wisconsin to face the Loons in the bottom of the seventh.  He hit Jordan Thompson, the number eight batter in the Loons order, and gave up a bloop single to Frank Rodriguez, the number nine hitter, with one out to bring the top of the order back to the plate.  Aquino was not troubled.  He struck out George and DePaula to end the threat.

In the bottom of the eighth, Aquino retired the first two hitters but gave up a single and walk to bring the potential go-ahead run to the plate.  Aquino struck out Jake Gelof on three pitched to send the game to the ninth with the 4-2 lead still intact.

The Wisconsin offense put the game away with a five-run rally with two outs in the ninth.  Areinamo walked with two outs against Jorge Gonzalez and drew a wild pickoff throw to wind up on third base.  Burke singled to center to drive in Areinamo.  Marco Dinges followed with a single to center that was misplayed to allow Burke to take third and Dinges to take second.

Eduardo Garcia, who had been 0-for-4 to that point of the night, crushed a double to center to score both runners and extend his current on-base streak to 24 games.  This is the longest active on-base streak in the Midwest League.  The only player with a longer on-base streak in the league this season is Burke, who had a 25-game streak earlier this season.

After Kay-Lan Nicasia walked, Yhoswar Garcia ripped a double to left to score the final runs of the inning and the Rattlers were up 9-2.

Stiven Cruz pitched a routine 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to close out the Wisconsin victory.

DeBerry set professional highs for innings pitched (5-2/3) and strikeouts (7).  He teamed up with the three relievers to record thirteen strikeouts and to hold the Loons (31-29) to 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Wisconsin hitters went 5-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Dow Diamond.  Anthony Flores (1-2, 4.23) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  The Loons have named Payton Martin as their starter.  Game time is 6:05pm CDT.

More All-NEC selections will be released by the conference's commissioner throughout the week.

Loons End Wisconsin Win Streak

Eriq Swan pitched six innings of a seven-inning no-hitter for the Great Lakes Loons at South Bend on June 5.  He had no problem following that performance when he faced the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Wednesday night at Dow Diamond.  Swan allowed a run on two hits and two walks with a professional career-high eight strikeouts as the Loons beat Wisconsin 4-2.

Great Lakes (31-28) scored in the bottom of the second inning.  Jake Gelof started the inning with an infield single and took second on an errant throw by shortstop Jadher Areinamo.  Wisconsin starting pitcher Tyson Hardin struck out the next two batters.  Then, Wilman Diaz doubled to right-center.  Gelof scored before Diaz was thrown out at third base trying to stretch his hit into a triple.

Kyle Nevin knocked in two more runs for the Loons with a two-out double on a 2-2 pitch in the bottom of the third inning.  Both runs were unearned.  An error on a grounder to short off the bat of Mike Sirota put two runners on base with one out.  Hardin retired Zhyir Hope on a slow tapper up the first baseline with the only play to first base.  Hardin had struck out Nevin with runners at second and third with two outs back in the first inning, but Nevin made the most of his second chance.

An odd sequence of events led to the Loons scoring their fourth run.  Josue DePaula was at first with one out after a walk from Hardin.  DePaula was running on the pitch to Mike Sirota, who lined a triple to the gap in right-center.  The Timber Rattlers deked DePaula into sliding headfirst into second base and into thinking the ball was caught.  DePaula made a few steps back towards first before realizing the ball was not caught and resuming his trip around the bases and touching home plate as Sirota made it to third with a triple.

However, DePaula had not retouched second base after heading back to first base.  Wisconsin was all set to appeal at second when play resumed.  Then, Sirota broke for the plate before Hardin could step off and throw back to second base.  The resulting rundown saw Sirota tagged out between third and home, but the Rattlers has lost their chance for an appeal at second and DePaula’s run finally counted for a 4-0 lead.

Wisconsin finally got to Swan in the top of the sixth but left the inning wondering what could have been.  Yhoswar Garcia walked, stole second, and stole third.  Juan Baez singled to knock in Garcia with Wisconsin’s first run.  A wild pitch by Swan moved Baez to second with one out and Eduardo Garcia at the plate.  Then, Baez got caught taking too big a lead from second base and Swan picked him off for the second out.

Swan would walk Garcia before getting Blake Burke to line out to short to end the inning. Swan struck out eight, allowed one run on two hits and walked two to put himself in line for the win.

In the top of the eighth, the Rattlers made that win seem like less than certain.  Reliever Evan Shaw walked Yhoswar Garcia with one out and walked Baez and Eduardo Garcia with two outs.  Burke was at the plate and took another walk from Shaw to force in a run to bring the Rattlers within two runs.

The Loons went back to the bullpen for Robinson Ortiz to face Marco Dinges with the game on the line.  Dinges hit a grounder to the hole at short.  Diaz made a backhand pick and was able to throw to second for the force on Burke to end the inning.

Tayden Hall walked with one out in the ninth in an attempt at a last-gasp rally for Wisconsin, but Ortiz got the final outs with a strikeout and a flyout to center to end Wisconsin’s four-game winning streak.

Yhoswar Garcia had four stolen bases on the evening to run his season total to 28.  Eduardo Garcia walked twice to extend his current hitting streak to 23 games.

The loss made Wisconsin’s faint playoff hopes even fainter.  Earlier in the day, first place Cedar Rapids beat Peoria 6-0.  Moments after the Wisconsin game ended, second place Quad Cities beat third place Beloit 3-2 on an RBI single by Daniel Vazquez in the bottom of the ninth.  Cedar Rapids maintains their half-game lead over Quad Cities and moves their lead over the Rattlers and Beloit to 4-1/2 games.  Wisconsin, Beloit, and Quad Cities have seven games left in the first half.  Cedar Rapids has eight games remaining in the half.

Game three of the series is set for Thursday night at Dow Diamond.  Jaron DeBerry (0-1, 5.40) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Luke Fox (3-2, 2.95) is set to start for the Loons.  Game time is 6:05pm CDT.

Rattlers Blitz Loons Early to Win Fourth Straight

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers carried over their impressive play from twelve-game homestand to pick up a 10-3 victory over the Great Lakes Loons Tuesday night at Dow Diamond.  The Rattlers were up 6-0 after the top of the second inning and their pitcher worked through some sticky situations to win for the tenth time in their last thirteen games.

The Timber Rattlers (30-28) scored three times in the first inning after there were two outs and none on base.  Great Lakes starter hit Blake Burke and walked Dinges to set the stage.  Jadher Areinamo lined a double to left to knock in Burke.  Hedbert Pérez delivered a two-out, two-run single to score both Dinges and Areinamo for the 3-0 lead.

Wisconsin doubled its lead in the second inning with three runs on five hits.  Daniel Guilarte and Yhoswar Garcia started the inning with singles and moved to second on a grounder by Juan Baez.  Eduardo Garcia’s ground ball up the middle didn’t get through the drawn-in infield because of a diving stop by shortstop Jordan Thompson.  Guilarte scored on the play as the throw went to first.

Burke and Dinges followed with consecutive RBI doubles to make it 6-0 in favor of the Rattlers.

Baez tripled in with one out in the top of the fourth and was able to score on the play when centerfielder Kendall George was unable to pick up the ball cleanly.

Great Lakes (30-28) had a lot of traffic against Wisconsin starting pitcher Ryan Birchard.  There was a lead-off walk in the first, two walks to start the second, a single and a walk to open the third, and a one-out walk in the fourth.  Birchard wiggled off the hook each time, mostly thanks to six strikeouts.

In the fifth, Birchard walked the first two batters and that was the end of his night.  Jesús Broca was called into the game to face Josue DePaula, the #30 prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline.

DePaula swung at the first pitch from Broca and tapped back to the mound.  Broca turned that into a 1-6-3 double play.  He struck out the next batter to end the inning.

The Loons got something going against Broca in the sixth when he hit the lead-off batter and gave up a one-out single before ending the threat by getting Jake Gelof to ground into a 5-4-3 double play.

Dinges added to the Wisconsin lead and his impressive RBI total since joining Wisconsin with a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the seventh.  Dinges has collected eighteen RBI in seventeen games with Wisconsin since coming to the team on May 20.

Kyle Nevin gave the Loons fans something to cheer in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-out, three-run home run off Jeferson Figueroa, who ran into an unfortunate call earlier in the inning.

Figueroa retired the first batter of the seventh and appeared to get Mike Sirota on a flyout to right.  However, just before he made the pitch, a ball got loose from the Great Lakes bullpen and time was called.  Sirota made the most of his second chance and singled later in the at bat.  A single and a fielder’s choice brought Nevin to the plate with runners at the corners and two away before he hit his home run.

Areinamo, who had three hits in the game, knocked in Wisconsin’s final run of the game with an RBI grounder.

Great Lakes loaded the bases with one out in the ninth against Miles Langhorne, Wisconsin’s fourth pitcher of the night, who joined the Rattlers from the Carolina Mudcats earlier in the day.  He would close out the game with a strikeout and a flyout to seal Wisconsin’s fourth straight win.

The quartet of Wisconsin pitchers walked seven and struck out eleven.

Wisconsin Takes Series with Sunday Win over Kernels

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers concluded a very successful homestand with a 7-5 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Eduardo Garcia, Blake Burke, and Marco Dinges all continued their torrid hitting while Sam Garcia was solid in his first Midwest League start to push the Rattlers past the playoff-contending Kernels

Wisconsin (29-28) scored a run in the first inning.  Juan Baez singled to start the inning and Burke sent him to third with a one-out single.  Dinges singled to left to knock in Baez for the 1-0 lead.

Garcia continued his hot streak by hitting a three-run home run to left with two outs in the bottom of the fourth.  The homer was his tenth of the season, extended his on-base streak to 21, and extended to the Wisconsin lead to 4-0.

Garcia became the first Timber Rattler to have ten homers in a season before July since the team moved up to the High-A classification in 2021 .

The Kernels (32-24), who entered Sunday one game behind West Division-leading Quad Cities, tried to get back into the game and pulled within 4-2 on a solo homer by Rayne Doncon in the fifth and a sacrifice fly by Kyle DeBarge in the sixth.

Those were the only two runs allowed by Wisconsin starting pitcher Sam Garcia, who was making his Midwest League debut.  Garcia allowed two four, walked one, and struck out four over 5-1/3 innings.  He would leave after giving up a single to Nate Baez with Yerlin Rodriguez coming out of the bullpen.

Rodriguez walked the first batter he faced and fell behind Danny DeAndrade.  Wisconsin was fortunate as DeAndrade hit a line drive to Eduardo Garcia at short and he was able to double Baez off second base for the inning-ending double play.

The Rattler bats went back to work in the bottom of the sixth and scored three big insurance runs.  Blake Burke singled home the first run.  Dinges followed with a two-run single and a 7-2 lead.

Cedar Rapids didn’t go away.

Kaelen Culpepper tripled with two on and two out in the top of the seventh against Rodriguez to cut the Wisconsin lead to 7-4.

Patricio Aquino took over in the top of the eighth and gave up a double and a single to put runners on the corners with no outs.  Aquino minimized the damage by getting Doncon to ground into a 1-4-3 double play.  A run scored on the play, but there were two outs with none on base.  Aquino got the final out with a flyout to center.

In the ninth, Misael Urbina and Culpepper had back-to-back singles with one out to bring DeBarge to the plate as the potential go-ahead run.  DeBarge has a history of big, late hits against the Rattlers this season with a walkoff, three-run homer at Cedar Rapids on April 22, and a game-tying, two-out double in the ninth inning on Saturday night.  This time, the Rattlers got what they needed as Aquino induced a 6-4-3 double play off the bat of DeBarge to end the game.

Wisconsin wrapped up their twelve-game homestand on Sunday with a 9-3 record.  They went 5-1 against the Peoria Chiefs and 4-2 against the Kernels.  Sunday’s win also pushed the Rattlers above the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Burke’s two hits on Sunday gave him his seventeenth multi-hit game on Sunday.  Dinges knocked in three runs to give him fifteen RBI in his first sixteen games with the Timber Rattlers.

The Timber Rattlers hit the road for a two-week road trip to Michigan.  The first game of the journey is Tuesday night at Dow Diamond against the Great Lakes Loons in Midland.  Ryan Birchard (2-3, 4.46) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  Game time is 6:05pm CDT.

All Sunday slate set for DCBL

As the Door County Baseball League enters its fifth weekend, all eight teams are set for games at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Sunday's slate includes Kolberg hosting West Jacksonport, Institute traveling to Egg Harbor, Sister Bay welcoming Maplewood, and Washington Island visiting Baileys Harbor.

Rockers sink Rafters

The Green Bay Rockers rebounded from its Friday night loss with an 8-5 Saturday win over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

It was a come from behind victory for the Rockers after being down 4-1 in the third inning and 5-4 in the sixth inning. The Rockers sprinted ahead of the Rafters for good in the ninth inning by scoring three runs on an error and a two-run homer by Eli Selga.

Selga and Collin Helms each had two hits in the win, while David Bellenilla, Cooper Smith, Jalan Jones joined Selga in the RBI department. Drew Aguiar earned the win, throwing three innings of one-hit shutout ball before Tate Strickland struck out the side to get the save.

Wisconsin Wins on Walkoff Wild Pitch

Walkoff wins are habit forming for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.  The Timber Rattlers beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels 3-2 when Luiyin Alastre scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth Saturday Night at Neuroscience Group Field to end a tense, tight ballgame.

Eduardo Garcia hit a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the first inning to give the Rattlers (28-28) a 1-0 lead.  Garcia extended his on-base streak to twenty games with that blast, his ninth home run of the season.

Cedar Rapids (32-23) tied the game with an unearned run in the top of the third.  Kyle DeBarge doubled with two outs, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored when Jadher Areinamo couldn’t handle a grounder to short off the bat of Nate Baez.

Areinamo made up for that error in the bottom of the fourth.  First, Blake Burke singled with one out and stole second with two outs.  Then, Areinamo hit a towering fly to left on a 3-2 pitch.  The ball hit off the top of the wall for an RBI double and a 2-1 lead.

Flores struck out seven over 5-2/3 innings, his longest outing as a professional.  He would leave the game after giving up a two-out single in the top of the sixth.  Stiven Cruz took over on the mound and – after walking the first batter he faced – got the final out of the inning.

Cruz pitched around a walk and a single in the seventh and got the first two outs in the top of the eighth before giving up a two-out single.  Bayden Root took over and got the final out in the eighth.

In the ninth, Root walked the eighth and ninth hitters in the Kernels lineup before getting the dangerous Kaelen Culpepper to ground into a 5-4-3 double play.  However, Kyle DeBarge – with the Kernels down to their last strike – ripped a double down the third base line to drive in the tying run.

Burke started the bottom of the ninth with a single to center against Kernels reliever Hunter Hoopes.  Burke gave way to Alastre as a pinch runner.  Then, Marco Dinges drew a walk.  Areinamo followed with a flyout to right that was deep enough to allow Alastre to tag and go to third base.

Kay-Lan Nicasia was at the plate with a 1-1 count when Hoopes missed low and inside.  The ball got to the backstop and Alastre raced home with the winning run for Wisconsin’s second straight walkoff win, fourth walkoff win on their homestand, and fifth walkoff win of the season.

The win moved the Timber Rattlers to 8-3 in the first eleven games of their current twelve-game homestand and got them back to the .500 mark for the third time this season.

The loss denied the Kernels a chance to move into a first place tie with the West Division-leading Quad Cities River Bandits, who were rained out in Peoria on Saturday night.  Cedar Rapids entered the night a half-game behind the Bandits and is now a full game back in the race for a first half playoff spot.  Both the Kernels and Quad Cities have eleven games remaining in the first half.

The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field and Wisconsin has a chance to go above .500 for the first time in 2025.  Sam Garcia is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers, and he will be making his Midwest League debut.  The Kernels have named Tanner Hall (2-2, 4.58) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 1:10pm CDT.

The Spartans' season ends with a record of 12-9-2, including a 5-2-1 mark in the NEC that tied them for second place with 11 points alongside Wrightstown and Freedom. Their 2-1 win over Waupun placed them in the program's first regional final appearance since 2021.

Blizzard burn Barnstormers

The Green Bay Blizzard overcame a slow start to come back and beat the Iowa Barnstormers at the Resch Center Friday night 52-32.

Down 19-10 after the first quarter, the Blizzard sprinted ahead for good as they outscored their visitors 21-6 in the second quarter. They ended the game scoring 21 of the second half's 28 points.

Max Meylor completed just 50 percent of his passes and threw two interceptions, but he also tossed for 166 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for another in the Blizzard win. Harry Ballard led the Blizzard with two touchdowns and 41 receiving yards.

The Blizzard are back in action next Friday at the Resch Center when they host the Jacksonville Sharks.

Rockers hit wrong note vs. Dock Spiders

A night after blowing out their 1-41 rivals on the road, the Green Bay Rockers fell at home to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders Friday night 6-2.

The Dock Spiders started early and added insurance runs late in the win. The Rockers mustered runs in the third and sixth innings thanks to a Max Humphrey RBI single and a run-scoring double by Justin Journette.

Parker Martin and Collin Helms also registered hits for the Rockers in the loss taken by pitcher Kenney Fabian, who allowed four runs (1 ER) on five hits across five innings.

Guilarte's Sacrifice Fly is Game-Winner for Wisconsin

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers shortstop Jadher Areinamo tied Friday’s game against the Cedar Rapids Kernels with a clutch home run in the sixth inning.  Then, he scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly by Daniel Guilarte in the bottom of the ninth as the Rattlers dealt the Kernels a 3-2 defeat at Neuroscience Group Field.

The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when the teams traded two-run home runs.

Cedar Rapids (32-22) broke through in the top of the inning against Wisconsin starting pitcher Jaron DeBerry.  Kaelen Culpepper doubled to start the inning.  Kyle DeBarge followed with a home run off the roof of the Left Field Lofts for a 2-0 lead.

DeBerry would retire the next batter before leaving the game after a single-game professional high of 5-1/3 innings. He allowed five hits, walked none, and struck out four.

Wisconsin responded in the bottom of the sixth to make sure DeBerry would get a no decision.  Blake Burke doubled with one out.  Areinamo stepped in with two outs and lined a homer to left, his sixth of the season, to tie the game.

The homer by Areinamo was off Kernels starting pitcher Chase Chaney, who would go seven innings, allow five hits, walk none, and strike out five over seven innings.

Jesús Broca relieved DeBerry and got the final two outs in the top of the sixth.  He had runners at second and third with two outs in the seventh but kept the game tied by striking out DeBarge.

The Kernels threatened again with one out in the top of the eighth inning as Brandon Winokur doubled and Danny DeAndrade singled to put runners on the corners.  Broca denied the Kernels with a strikeout and a popup.

Broca allowed a one out single to Misael Urbina, the Kernels ninth hitter in the order, in the top of the ninth before working through another scoreless frame by getting Culpepper and DeBarge to send the game to the bottom of the ninth still tied 2-2.

Areinamo doubled to left with one out against reliever Gabriel Yanez and raced for third when the throw into the cutoff man got away.  Cedar Rapids elected to walk Hedbert Pérez intentionally after the Rattler designated hitter didn’t chase the first two pitched.

That set the stage for Guilarte, and he lifted a deep fly to center on a 1-1 pitch from Yanez.  Areinamo tagged on the catch and jogged home with the winning run for Wisconsin’s third walkoff win of their current homestand and fourth of the season.

Broca earned his third win for the Timber Rattlers as he scattered six hits and struck out four over 3-2/3 scoreless innings.  Neither Broca nor DeBerry walked a batter for Wisconsin’s fifth game of the season without a free pass from their pitchers.

The win by Wisconsin denied the Kernels a chance to move into first place in the West Division of the Midwest League.  The Quad Cities River Bandits, the current leaders in the West, lost 5-1 at Peoria on Friday night.  The River Bandits (33-22) are still a half-game up on Cedar Rapids.

Game five of the series is Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Anthony Flores (1-2, 4.85) is scheduled as the starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  Alejandro Hidalgo is set to start for Cedar Rapids.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Arcadia, Marathon, Nekoosa, and Waukesha West have won five titles, with Edgar, Madison Memorial, Milwaukee Bradley, Milwaukee King, Prairie du Chien, and Whitewater are next on the list with four. Twenty-five girls have won the same event four times during their careers. Kennedy Blahnik of Algoma, Cami Davre of Whitefish Bay, Bonnie Draxler of Wrightstown, Joanna Schultz of Holmen, and Molly Seidel of University Lake School are the only athletes to accomplish the feat in two different events. Blahnik won the discus and shot put from 2011-14; Davre won the gold in the 800 and 1,600 runs from 2014-17; Draxler won the 400 dash and pole vault from 2011-14; Schultz captured the titles in the 200 and 400 dashes from 2003-06; and Seidel won the 1,600 and 3,200 runs from 2009-12. Davre, Draxler, Jaclynn Kriegl of Florence, Elizabeth Pospyhalla, and Tess Thurs of Edgar hold the record for the most championships won in a career by an individual with 10. Dana Collins of Milwaukee Marshall, Heather Hyland of Nekoosa and Jenni Westphal of Marinette are next in line with nine. Edgar has won the most events in the meet's history with 42 titles. Madison Memorial is next on the list with 35.

DIVISION 1 NOTES - GIRLS:   Wisconsin Lutheran has the most entries in the meet with 20, including representation in 15 individual events and four relays. Muskego and Wauwatosa East have the second-most entries in the meet with 19. Wauwatosa East is represented in 13 individual events and four relays, and Muskego has participants in seven individual events and four relays. Remarkably, all events except the 300-meter hurdles have at least one former champion returning to contend for another gold medal in their respective events. Junior Lydia Lazarescu of Holmen captured the crown in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes last season. She returns to the events with the second-fastest qualifying time in the 100 at 11.95 and the ninth-fastest seed time in the 200 at 25.39. Lazarescu also had a third-place finish in the 100 in 2023.

Senior Nicole Repka of Verona is the returning champion in the 400 dash. She enters the event with the second-fastest sectional time at 55.85. Junior Charlize-Trinity McKenzie of Cedarburg qualifies for the third straight season in the 800 run. She won the title last season on the heels of a runner-up finish in the event in 2023. Her qualifying time of 2:11.19 this season is more than two seconds quicker than the next-best qualifying time. McKenzie also has the fastest qualifying time in the 1,600 at 4:52.90. She’ll need to contend with junior Ella Anschutz of Muskego, who won the title in the 1,600 in 2023 and was runner-up last season. She enters the event with the ninth-best time of 5:06.42. Anschutz is the defending champion in the 3,200 run after placing 12th in 2023. Her sectional time of 11:24.59 ranks 13th on the qualifying performance list. Also worth noting, Anschutz was also the 2023 and 2024 cross-country champion.

Junior Sydnee Nelson of Oshkosh West won the 100 hurdles last season, and she is back as the leading contender to win the championship again this season with the fastest qualifying time of 14.30. Senior Allyson Armstrong of DeForest won the gold medal in the high jump last season, and she is in position to win back-to-back titles with a qualifying jump of 5-5, which ties for the best height entering the meet. Junior Elise Schroeder of Arrowhead is the returning champion in the pole vault, improving on a runner-up finish in the event in 2023. Her sectional performance of 12-0 ranks second-best among all qualifiers, behind only senior Erica Miner of Oak Creek, who vaulted 12-9 at sectionals last week after a runner-up finish in 2024. Senior Anisa Barnett of Homestead is the returning champion in the long jump and the two-time defending champion in the triple jump. She also placed fifth in the triple jump as a freshman in 2022. Her qualifying leap of 18-2 1/2 in the long jump ranks seventh on the event’s performance list. Barnett’s mark of 37-8 3/4 in the triple jump at sectionals positions her third best on the list of qualifiers. Senior Thea Kral of Ashwaubenon appears to be placed to win a third straight title in the discus. Her qualifying effort 153-5 is almost 11 feet higher than the next-best.  She should also be considered the favorite to repeat as champion in the shot put with the best qualifying toss of 47-3 1/2. The four-time qualifier also placed seventh in 2023 and ninth in 2022. Senior Keira Fax of Wauwatosa West is also a former champion in the shot put, winning the title in 2023 and placing fourth last season and sixth in 2022.  The Mukwonago 400 relay returns to the meet seeking a second straight championship, and it appears to be in good position to contend for the title with the fastest qualifying time of 47.86. The Arrowhead 800 relay squad has the fourth-fastest qualifying time at 1:43.12 after winning the event in 2024, and the Verona 1,600 relay has the third-swiftest seed time at 3:57.97 after earning gold last year. Likewise, the Homestead 3,200 relay possesses the third-quickest qualifying time at 9:25.97 after racing to victory in the event the past two seasons.

DIVISION 1 NOTES - BOYS:   Oak Creek has the most entries in the Division with 19, including representation in seven individual events and four relays. Arrowhead, Brookfield East, Homestead, Marquette, and West Allis Hale are next with 17 entries. Homestead has the most representation of this group with competitors in 11 individual event and three relays. Wisconsin Lutheran is represented in a division-high 16 events, including 14 individual events and two relays. Four individual events and two relays have their champions from last year returning this year. Senior Manny Putz of Onalaska is the returning champion in both the 1,600 and 3,200 runs. He is back attempting to retain the titles this season with the fastest qualifying time in the 3,200 at 9:22.92 and the seventh-best seed time in the 1,600 at 4:20.05. In addition, Putz is one of seven individuals to win three individual State cross country championships. Senior Nate Williams of Greenfield won the high jump last season, and he returns with the 11th-highest qualifying leap at 6-4. Senior Andrew Cartier of De Pere returns with the second-best qualifying performance in the triple jump at 47-1 1/2 after he won the gold medal last season on the heels of a sixth-place standing in 2023. The Arrowhead 400 and 800 relays have qualified this year with the fastest qualifying times of 42.20 and 1:26.66, respectively, after capturing the titles in both those events a year ago.

DIVISION 2 NOTES - GIRLS:   Little Chute has the most entries in the division with 13, including representation in five individual events and three relays. Freedom, Grafton, and  Lancaster are all second on the list of most entries with 12. Of those, Freedom has the most representation in events with 11, including nine individual events and two relays. Nine events in the division feature a former champion returning to challenge for another title this year, including six individual events and three relays.  Senior Lucci Aizpurua of Amery is on the threshold of history, attempting to win her fourth championship in the 100-meter dash. The three-time reigning champion and the State record-holder in the event is back with the fastest qualifying time of 11.86. She would become the 26th girl in the history of the State Meet to win four titles in an event. Sophomore Ciara Hartman of Bloomer won the 3,200 run championship last year as a freshman. She returns to the event this year with the second-fastest qualifying time of 11.01.05. The Catholic Memorial 400 relay qualifies this season after winning the event a year ago, but they may need to improve on their seed time of 43.75 if they are to retain the title. The Crusaders’ time ranks 17th out of the 17 qualifying relays. The McFarland 3,200 relay is the top seed this year with a qualifying time of 7:56.39. Three individual events and two relays return former champions to the meet this year. Junior Alex Wierzba of Rosholt won the 2024 gold medals in 200 and 400 dashes. He claims the fourth-fastest qualifying time in the 200 dash at sectionals last week at 22.20, and his 49.30 in the 400 is the top time among the qualifiers. The three-time State qualifier also placed eighth in the 200 and fourth in the 400 in 2023. Senior Jacob Sturm of Abundant Life Christian qualifies for the third time in the 800 run. On a related note, junior Chris Marcell of Marathon has qualified in the discus and shot put with a mark that would shatter the State Meet records in those events if he can equal the tasks. His sectional throw in the discus of 202-8 well out-distances the record of 181-0, and his 60-8 seed mark in the shot put eclipses the record of 59-9 1/4. Marcell was runner-up in the discus last year and eighth in 2023. Defending champion Stratford is in contention for a second straight title in the 400 relay, returning to the meet with the quickest time of 43.22. WHEELCHAIR NOTES:  There are four girls’ wheelchair events returning former champions. Junior Megan Egstad of Sun Prairie East accounts for three of those events. She won the 400 and 800 and the shot put last year. Egstad is the top qualifier in each event this year in pursuit of a repeat trifecta. She recorded a seed time of 1:18.97 in the 400 and 2:52.67 in the 800 at sectionals, and she tossed the shot put 15-3. Junior Renaya Horvath of Greenwood raced to the championship the last two seasons in the 100. To win a third title, she will most likely need to shave time off her seed time of 26.80, which ranks fourth among the qualifiers. Two boys’ wheelchair events return their champion, junior Gianni Quintero of Marquette. He is the two-time champion in both the 400 and 800 races. Quintero is positioned to win his third crown in both those events with the fastest qualifying times of 1:02.32 and 2:27.08, respectively.

Rattlers Fall Behind Early, Can't Make Up the Deficit

The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers both had thirteen hits on Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Kernels would go 6-for-17 with runners in scoring position to be able to do more with their hits on the way to an 10-6 victory over the Rattlers.

The Kernels (32-21) scored four runs in the top of the first inning against Tyson Hardin.  A single and a walk started the game.  Nate Baez singled to center with the runners going to drive in a run and put runners at the corners.  A passed ball allowed the second run of the inning to score.

Later in the inning Danny DeAndrade added to the lead with an RBI single and Jay Thomason doubled in a run to make it 4-0.

Wisconsin (26-28) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first inning as Kernels starting pitcher Ty Langenberg walked Juan Baez and Eduardo Garcia with Blake Burke lining a single to left.  However, Langenberg got out of the inning with three straight strikeouts.

Cedar Rapids added single runs in the second and third innings to go up 6-0.  Kaelen Culpepper singled home the run in the second.  Poncho Ruiz had a two-out single in the third.

The Rattlers loaded the bases again in the third inning, this time with one out on singles by Burke and Marco Dinges and a walk to Jadher Areinamo.  Tayden Hall drew a walk to force in the first run.  Yhoswar Garcia plated the second run of the inning on a slow grounder to third.

A misplay on a flyball off the bat of Brandon Winokur with two outs and a runner at first in the top of the fourth inning gave Winokur a triple and the Kernels a 7-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Juan Baez singled and Eduardo Garcia doubled with one out.  Burke followed with a two-run double.  Dinges followed with a single.  Then, Areinamo drove in Burke with a sacrifice fly to bring the Rattlers to within 7-5.

Thomason expanded the lead for the Kernels with a lead-off homer in the top of the fifth against Yerlin Rodriguez, the Rattlers first reliever out of the bullpen.

Eduardo Garcia launched a solo home run of his own, a two-out blast off the light tower beyond the wall in left, in the sixth inning.  That blast, his eighth of the season, brought the Rattlers back to within two runs.

Rodriguez pitched a scoreless sixth before walking the first two Kernels he faced in the seventh. A 5-4-3 double play got him one out from another scoreless frame.  However, Rayne Doncon hit a home run to left and the Kernels were up 10-6.

Aaron Rund replaced Rodriguez and worked 2-1/3 perfect innings two three strikeouts in an attempt to let the Rattlers bats get back in the game.

The Rattlers tried to rally as Areinamo had a lead-off single in the seventh, Juan Baez had a two-out single in the eighth, and Dinges and Areinamo had one-out singles in the ninth.  But the Rattlers would not cross the plate again.  They had thirteen hits yet stranded ten runners as they were 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Burke and Dinges led the Wisconsin offense with three hits each.  Garcia’s double was his fourteenth of the season and he also scored two runs for the Rattlers.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Jaron DeBerry (0-1, 7.11) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Chase Cheaney (3-1, 3.97) is set to start for the Kernels.  Game time is 6:40pm.

The Indians broke through in the opening inning when Kasey Brouchoud singled in a run to make it 1-0. It would stay that way until the fifth inning when the Indians scored three times, two of which came on an error.

Brooke Mattson registered the team's lone hit to lead off the fourth inning, but the Wolves were retired in order the rest of the way.

Kernels Earn Doubleheader Split with Game Two Win

The Cedar Rapids Kernels needed a win in game two of Wednesday’s doubleheader with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to avoid a sweep and keep their playoff hopes alive. The Kernels would take advantage of eleven walks by Wisconsin pitchers and a key error in the fourth inning to go on to a 15-2 victory.

The start of game two was a carbon copy of game one.  Kaelen Culpepper, who homered on the second pitch of game one against Ryan Birchard, hit a home run on the second pitch of the nightcap from Stiven Cruz to give the Kernels a 1-0 lead.

Cedar Rapids (31-21) added to their lead with a run on a sacrifice fly by Misael Urbina in the second inning.

Two-out hits and a two-out mistake led to the Kernels scoring five runs over the third and fourth innings against reliever Patricio Aquino.

A walk and a double to open the third inning put runners at second and third with no outs for the Kernels.  Aquino retired the next two batters without allowing the runners to advance.  Then. Caden Kendle hit a grounder down the third base line that was ruled fair for a two-run double.

In the fourth, Aquino had a runner at third with two outs.  Nate Baez hit a grounder to third that was misplayed by Juan Baez to allow the runner to score and extend the inning.  Aquino hit the next batter to put two runners on base,  Then, Danny DeAndrade doubled to score two more runs for a 7-0 lead.

Cole Peschl, the Cedar Rapids starter, retired the first ten Rattlers he faced before walking Eduardo Garcia in the fourth inning.  Garcia stole second base, his 21st of the season, to get into scoring position.  Jadher Areinamo blooped in a single with two outs to score Garcia to put Wisconsin (26-27) on the scoreboard.

Tanner Shears entered the game in the top of the fifth inning and struggled to find the strike zone.  He walked four straight batters to start the frame to force in a run.  Kyle DeBarge was hit by a pitch to force in another run.  That was followed by another bases loaded walk.  Brandon Winokur singled home a run to knock Shears out of the game.

DeAndrade greeted reliever Jeferson Figueroa with a bases-clearing triple to put the Kernels up 14-1.  Later in the inning, Pancho Ruiz had a sacrifice fly to play the final run of the game for Cedar Rapids.

Outfielder Luiyn Alastre got the top of the seventh inning on the mound for the Rattlers.  He would retire the side in order on three popups, including one to himself just off the mound to end the inning.

Wisconsin scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh.  Tayden Hall doubled with one out.  Yhoswar Garcia hit a grounder to short and a wild throw to first allowed Hall to score the final run of the game.

The Rattlers and Kernels split Wednesday’s twinbill with the Rattlers winning game one 8-2.

Game three of the series is set for Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Tyson Hardin (4-1, 1.29) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Ty Langenberg (0-3, 7.98) is set to start for the Kernels.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Birchard and Dinges Lead Rattlers Over Kernels

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers battery of Ryan Birchard and Marco Dinges powered the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to an 8-2 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in game one of a doubleheader at Neuroscience Group Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Kaelen Culpepper gave the Kernels (30-21) the lead with a home run on the second pitch of the game from Birchard.

Wisconsin (26-26) responded in the bottom of the first with two runs.  Juan Baez singled and Eduardo Garcia walked as the first two batters to face Cedar Rapids starter Jose Olivares.  Dinges singled to center with one out to score Baez with the tying run.  An error on the play allowed Garcia to score the go-ahead run.

Dinges delivered again in the bottom of the third with a two-out, two-run home run to center that put the Rattlers up 4-1.

Brandon Winokur, who committed the error on the single by Dinges in the first inning, got a measure of redemption in the top of the fourth inning with a long, lead-off homer.  That would be the last run allowed by Birchard.

The Rattlers padded their lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Daniel Guilarte knocked in the first run with a sacrifice fly.  Juan Baez made it 6-2 with an RBI single later in the inning.  Blake Burke added two more runs with a two-out single for the 8-2 advantage.

Birchard tossed 5-2/3 innings and struck out ten to set a new single-game high as a professional.

Bayden Root closed out the game by retiring all four batters he faced.

The win moved the Timber Rattlers back to the .500 mark on the season for the first time since they were 3-3 after a win at Quad Cities on April 10.

Rattlers Rally Past Peoria for 8-6 Win

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers saw an early lead evaporate against the Peoria Chiefs on Sunday afternoon.  Then, the Rattlers rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead on the way to an eventual 8-6 victory in the series finale at Neuroscience Group Field.

Wisconsin (25-26) charged to the lead with two runs three batters into the bottom of the first inning.  Juan Baez singled.  Eduardo Garcia tripled to knock in Baez.  Blake Burke scored Garcia with an RBI grounder for a 2-0 lead.

Peoria (19-31) came back with a run in the top of the second on a two-out, RBI single by Zach Levenson.

Levenson gave the Chiefs the lead with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning.  Peoria added to their lead later in the inning.  Michael Curialle followed Levenson’s home run with a double.  Jon Jon Gazdar doubled in Curialle with two outs for a 4-2 lead.

Wisconsin had two hits in the first inning but those were their only two hits through the first four innings.  They loaded the bases with one out in the fifth on two singles and a walk, but left the bases loaded.  Then, the Rattlers got some help.

The bottom of the sixth looked like it would start with a popout on the infield, but Kay-Lan Nicasia reached on a lead-off single when the popup dropped in safely and Daniel Guilarte walked on four pitches.  One out later, Luiyin Alastre ripped a double to right to score both runners to tie the game.  An error on the play allowed Alastre to take third.

The Chiefs brought their infield in with Baez at the plate and the strategy didn’t work as Baez lined a single through the left side score Alastre with the go-ahead run.  Later in the inning, Marco Dinges drove in the fourth run of the frame with a single for a 6-4 lead.

Guilarte surprised Peoria in the bottom of the seventh when he launched a long home run to left-center.  It was his first home run as a Rattler and his first since May 3, 2024 when he was a member of the Carolina Mudcats.  This blast on Sunday put the Rattlers up 8-4.

Jesús Broca did yeoman’s work out of the Wisconsin bullpen in relief of starting pitcher Anthony Flores.  Broca pitched three scoreless innings after taking over in the fifth.  He allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out three to allow the offense to find its footing again to take the lead.

Peoria scored a run on a two-out wild pitch by Yerlin Rodriguez in the eighth and a two-out double by Brayden Jobert in the ninth against Aaron Rund to get close, but not close enough as Rund closed out the game for his third save of the season.

The Timber Rattlers won five of six in the series from the Chiefs to get to one game under .500 for the season.  This is as close to .500 as the Rattlers have been since they were 4-5 after a win at Quad Cities on April 13.

Baez had three hits and Burke walked four times to lead the Wisconsin offense.  The Timber Rattlers defense turned three double plays on Sunday to run their league-leading total to 51.

Wisconsin continues their homestand on Tuesday against the Cedar Rapids Kernels.  Ryan Birchard (1-3, 4.66) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Game time is 6:40pm.

Rattlers Score Two in Eleventh Inning for Walkoff Win

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored twice in the bottom of the eleventh inning to defeat the Peoria Chiefs 4-3 on Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Marco Dinges drove in the tying run with a single and Tayden Hall got the game-winner with a sacrifice fly to end an entertaining, but nerve-wracking game.

Peoria (19-30) took the lead in the top of the first inning after a twelve-pitch battle between Ian Petrutz and Wisconsin starting pitcher Jaron DeBerry.   Petrutz fouled off six consecutive 2-2 pitches before DeBerry missed with a pitch to run the count full.  Petrutz hit the next pitch just over the wall in right for a solo homer and a 1-0 lead for the Chiefs.

Chase Adkison added a run to the Peoria lead with an RBI single in the top of the third.

Chen-Wei Lin, the Peoria starter, walked Blake Burke with two outs in the first inning.  He retired the next ten batters in a row.  That streak ended – and so did Lin’s outing – with a double by Juan Baez to start the fifth.

Wisconsin (24-26) scored after Lin left the game.  Tayden Hall moved Baez to third with a grounder.  Yhoswar Garcia followed with an infield single on a slow dribbler up the third base line that refused to go foul.  Baez scored on the play to pull the Rattlers to within a run.

Eduardo Garcia singled and stole second with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning.  He would be caught trying to steal third for the second out of the inning with Blake Burke at the plate.  Burke would single later in his at bat, but the Rattlers could do nothing with it.

In the seventh, Yhoswar Garcia started a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh with an infield single against Chiefs reliever DJ Carpenter.  Garcia stole second and Carpenter walked Daniel Guilarte to extend the inning to Luiyin Alastre.

Alastre was at the plate waiting for an 0-1 pitch from Carpenter when Garcia broke early for third base.  Carpenter stepped off the rubber and threw to third, but the throw was wild allowing Garcia to scamper home with the tying run.

The game remained tied through ten innings.  Bayden Root, who entered the game in the top of the seventh with the Rattlers trailing, would work three scoreless frames for the Rattlers.  Zach Peek entered in the top of the tenth and stranded the placed runner with a strikeout and a pair of grounders.  On the Peoria side of the ledger, Michael Watson kept the Rattlers off the scoreboard in the eighth, ninth, and tenth.

In the top of the eleventh, the Chiefs broke the tie when Johnfrank Salazar singled on a 1-2 pitch with two outs to drive in the go-ahead run against Peek.

Wisconsin responded almost immediately in the bottom of the eleventh.  Burke lined a single to center on the first pitch.  Eduardo Garcia, the runner at second, had to hold for a moment to make sure the ball wasn’t caught and took third.  Marco Dinges fell behind Gonzalez 0-2 but eventually worked the count full before sending a single to left on the eighth pitch of the at bat to score Garcia with the tying run.

Baez nearly won the game for the Rattler moments later when he hit a hard grounder ticketed for left field.  Salazar made a dive to his left to field the ball.  He got Dinges at second for the first out.  Baez just beat the throw to first to avoid the double play and set the stage for Hall.

On June 9, 2024, Hall was at the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning of a tie game with the Quad Cities River Bandits with the bases loaded and no outs.  Hall hit a sacrifice fly to left to score the winning run and touch off a celebration for the walkoff win in that game.

On Saturday night, history repeated itself.  Hall hit the first pitch from Salazar to left field.  Burke tagged and scored the winning run to touch off a celebration on a 4-3, walkoff win.

The win clinched the series win for the Timber Rattlers and put them in the win column for the eighth time in the last ten games.

Patricio Aquino contributed to the Rattlers win with 2-2/3 scoreless, hitless innings out of the bullpen.  Wisconsin relievers allowed two hits and one unearned run over 7-2/3 innings in the game.

The series finale is set for Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Anthony Flores (1-2, 4.37) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Peoria has named Jose Davila (2-2, 6.58) as their starter.  Game time is 1:10pm.
