Gamblers steal another one from USA

The Green Bay Gamblers pulled off their second consecutive win over Team USA on New Years Eve in overtime fashion, 5-4.

Green Bay saw a hot start out of the gates with goals from Mason Lohrei, Jake Schmaltz and Cam Thiesing to prop a 3-2 lead in the first period over Team USA. The Gamblers saw their lead slip away in the second period after a USA goal until Schmaltz added his second goal of the night to tie the match back up, 4-4. Neither team could find the net in the third period which sent the match into overtime. Green Bay saw vintage Lohrei come up with the game winning goal, his fifth game-winning goal of the season (leads the USHL). The Green Bay win propelled them into a first place tie with the Chicago Steel in the Eastern Conference standings. The Resch Center will see the Gamblers and Muskegon on Friday, January 8th for a 7:05pm puck drop.

Badgers bounce back on NYE

The Wisconsin Badgers mens’ basketball team defeated their Big Ten Conference rival Minnesota Gophers on New Years Eve, 71-59.

The Badgers rebounded well after a traumatic home loss to Maryland earlier this week. Wisconsin started the game hot with five straight points from Micah Potter and a Johnathan Davis slam dunk to go up seven points over the Gophers. Minnesota did not shy away from Wisconsin as they finished the first half of play within seven points of the Badgers. Wisconsin came out with some serious firepower in the second half to go on a 21-7 scoring run, putting them ahead of Minnesota 48-29. Potter continued to add to the lead while D’Mitrik Trice and Aleem Ford chipped in to finish Minnesota off. The Badgers shot 40% from the three-point line and finished the game off with a 50.8% from the field. Potter led all scorers with 18 points and helped improve his team to 9-2 overall. Wisconsin will travel to Penn State for another Big Ten Conference game on January 3rd at 11am to ring in the new year.

YMCA provides insight on safety and community engagement

The Door County YMCA swim program has been able to adjust to the challenges faced this year for members and staff with the ongoing health crisis.

New Radio Sports Network spoke with YMCA aquatic center director and coach Mike McHugh during the holiday season. McHugh explained how it has been a unique swim season in many aspects. The YMCA and McHugh have been thorough in protocols and share a strong communication line with members/supporters of the program.

McHugh shared his appreciation for everyone in regards to the perseverance with the aquatic center, YMCA, parents, coaches and other advocates.

The swim program has shown a proven track record of success dating back to when it first established its presence over 15 years ago. The coaching culture has adapted along with the athletes as well. The swim practices are totally off hands and that has cut down on some technique but a key aspect of the practice structure has been the intensity of short spurt practices during this pandemic.

The YMCA has been taking action in every safety aspect while engaging the community members to the best of their abilities.

Girls' basketball outlook: Pioneers, Clippers both search for first win

The North Eastern Conference will rest now until the new year but as for Packerland Conference play, Sturgeon Bay will see action against Sevastopol.

Gamblers skate over Team USA

The Green Bay Gamblers saw some quality ice time at home on Wednesday night as they pulled off a win over Team USA, 6-3.

Gamblers found revenge over the U18 USA squad after falling to them in preseason play in October. Green Bay pulled out to a 3-0 lead in the first period of play after Jackson Schmaltz, Alex Servango and Ryan Kirwan slapped in some goals. Green Bay continued that momentum into second period play and added another goal while USA tallied two as well to bring the game within two scores. Green Bay finished the game off with two more goals while USA only generated one more goal in the final period of play to solidify a three goal Gambler win. Gamblers goaltender Matt Davis saw his stateline improve to six wins after fending off 26 shots on goal by USA. Gamblers forward Servango led the squad in goals with two total, one that qualified as the game winner. The Gamblers saw their record improve to 9-2-1 on the season and will see another matchup versus USA on New Years Eve at the Resch Center for a 6:05pm puck drop.

Badger football concludes season with a bowl win

The Wisconsin Badgers (4-3) football team pulled off a Duke's Mayo Bowl game win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-5), 42-28, on Wednesday afternoon.

Badgers quarterback Graham Mertz cashed in three touchdowns in his team's victory all while doing so with half of the total offensive yardage that Wake Forest amassed over the entire game. The Demon Deacons are recognized as one of college football's quickest starting teams and it showed right away with back-to-back touchdown drives over Wisconsin. After the explosive Wake Forest start, Wisconsin made consecutive defensive stops to claim a two-touchdown second quarter led by a Mertz 11-play scoring drive and touchdown run.

The Demon Deacons struck first in the second half after a Sam Hartman 50-yard touchdown pass to Jaquarii Roberson. Wisconsin changed the game's momentum with a 59-yard Devin Chandler kick return into Wake Forest territory to set up another Mertz rushing touchdown to tie the game at 21 points. Badgers defenseman Scott Nelson intercepted Hartman and returned it 60 yards to set up a game sealing Garrett Groshek 1-yard touchdown run. Mertz ended the game with 130 yards passing going 11/17 while Groshek led the rushing game with 41 of their 122 yards. Wisconsin concluded their season with a bowl win to make it their sixth bowl win in the last seven seasons.

The Badgers threw their perfect conference record down the drain and diminished their 11-game conference win streak. The underdog Terps were down four points at halftime to the Badgers, 28-24. Second half play saw Maryland go on an early 8-0 scoring run while Wisconsin did not score for three minutes during that stretch. The Badgers regained the lead with six minutes left to play but could not find an offensive rhythm giving Maryland the keys to victory. Maryland outshot the Badgers from the free-throw line by 33% and stopped Wisconsin from earning any fast break points. Wisconsin’s D’Mitrik Trice carried his team throughout the game with 25 points while shooting 50% from the field. Aleem Ford was the only other Badger to capture double-digit figures in the game. Wisconsin descended to 8-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. Wisconsin will look to bounce back at home on New Years Eve against Minnesota for a 3:30pm tip-off.

Packers pounce Titans

The Green Bay Packers summed up a snowy holiday weekend with a win over the Tennessee Titans, 40-14.

Green Bay received the ball to start the game and they went straight to work, opening the game with a 60-yard scoring drive capped off by a six-yard Davante Adams’ touchdown reception from Aaron Rodgers. After a Green Bay defensive stop, the Packers earned the ball back and drove down the field for another touchdown giving them a 12-point lead into the second quarter. Packer defenseman Darnell Savage grabbed his fourth interception of the season early in the second quarter which led to another Adams touchdown reception. The Packers nearly pitched a shutout in the first half until the 37-second mark when Tennessee's Ryan Tannehill tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jonnu Smith to bring the game within a 12-point reach.

Tennessee received the second-half kickoff and took advantage of their opportunity with a 45-yard touchdown run by Tannehill to bring his team within five points, 19-14. Green Bay scored in back-to-back possessions after Tennessee’s opening second half drive, making it a 33-14 game. Green Bay capped off the game with an AJ Dillon score and a defensive stop in the remaining minutes of the fourth quarter. Dillon ran for a 30-yard touchdown in his first score as a Packer while his second touchdown went for seven yards giving him his first 100+ yard game of his career. Adams saw a three-touchdown reception night which gave him his 17th touchdown of the season, that went hand in hand with Rodgers four-touchdown pass night, giving him the NFL lead in touchdowns with 44. Green Bay improved to 12-3 and remained the No. 1 seed for the NFC playoff picture. The Packers will finish regular season play next Sunday when they travel to play the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field for a 3:25pm kickoff.

Bucks tumble to Knicks

The Milwaukee Bucks fell to the New York Knicks on the road late Sunday evening to gather their second loss of the season, 130-110.

Milwaukee saw a struggle throughout the first quarter of play on both sides of the ball and found themselves down by three points early on, 30-27. Milwaukee did not have any help in the second quarter and found their deficit grow after New York’s Julius Randle caught fire from the field, giving his team a 61-45 lead entering halftime. Throughout the first three quarters of play New York outshot the Bucks 59% to 14.7% from three-point land. Milwaukee could not slow down New York’s Randle and Elfrid Payton down the fourth quarter stretch. Payton went three-for-three from the three-point line to seal a Knicks victory. Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo gathered 27 points with 13 rebounds while Khris Middleton collected 22 points in their defeat. Phoenix men off to a slow start

The Green Bay Phoenix mens’ basketball team fell again to the Wright State Raiders on Sunday afternoon in game two of the weekend pair of conference games, 90-77.

Green Bay found light early on in Sunday's matchup after pulling a 12-8 scoring run two minutes into the first half. Green Bay’s Amari Davis led the first half with a stellar twenty points while PJ Pipes added 10 points to contribute to Green Bay’s 39 point first half that gave them a three point halftime lead over the Raiders, 39-36. The Raiders came out in the second half with some more conviction and within minutes collected an 8-0 scoring run to put themselves ahead 47-41. At the 10:33 mark Wright State extended their lead by 15 points even after their struggle to contain Green Bay’s Davis. The Raiders continued to click on offense down the stretch to pull off the weekend sweep even after the Phoenix out rebounded the Raiders, 35-32. Davis finished with a career-high 35 points and will lead his squad on the road to Youngstown State for a pair of conference games starting on January 1st, 2021 at 3pm.

Bucks back on the road to face Knicks

It was a brief stay at home for the Milwaukee Bucks as they head to New York for a game against the Knicks.

The Bucks were able to overcome a rough game by Giannis Antetokounmpo thanks to Khris Middleton's 31 point game to defeat the Golden State Warriors 138-99 in their Christmas Day matinee. The Bucks closed hard against the Warriors, outscoring them by more than 20 points in the second half.

The Knicks will be playing on short rest as they lost to the 76ers 109-89. Julius Randle scored 25 points and Alec Burks poured in 22 points in the loss that dropped the Knicks to 0-2 in the season. They opened their season with a 121-107 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.

Tip is set for 6:30 p.m.

Packers, Titans finish off holiday weekend

The Green Bay Packers and the Tennessee Titans will put a final touch on the holiday weekend under the lights of Lambeau Field on Sunday.

The Packers got a dose of good news with Corey Linsley being activated off the injured list. The move is expected to help the Packers pass blocking, which saw quarterback Aaron Rodgers get sacked five games in their 24-16 win over the Panthers. The Packers will need to continue their current four-game winning streak in order to keep pace with the New Orleans Saints for the top spot in the NFC.

The Titans have won two straight games after falling to the Browns earlier this month. Ryan Tannehill threw three touchdowns and running back Derrick Henry rushed for 147 yards and a score in the Titans' 46-25 win over the Lions.

Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m.

Second-half surge sinks Phoenix

Green Bay and Wright State traded punches for the majority of the game until a late run in the second half gave the Raiders the 67-53 victory.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half with the Raiders narrowly escaping to the break with a 23-21 lead. The offenses started to pick up as the second half began with the two teams still going back and forth. A 10-2 run for the Raiders eventually did the Phoenix in as they struggled to get within six points the final eight minutes of the game.

Amari Davis scored a team-high 13 points while P.J. Pipes pitched in another 11 points. The Raiders had two players have double-doubles in the victory with Loudon Love (17pts, 14reb) and teammate Tanner Holden (18pts, 10rebs) leading the way.

The two teams will match up again in Dayton, Ohio starting at 1 p.m.

Green Bay in search of first win

The Green Bay Phoenix mens’ basketball team will suit up on Saturday in part of a weekend pair of Horizon League games at the Wright State Raiders.

The Phoenix will find themselves searching for their first win in conference and this season. Green Bay is coming off a tough pair of conference losses from last weekend when they faced Milwaukee at home. Phoenix head coach Will Ryan is searching for his first win in the program while Wright State has collected a 4-1 record and a 2-0 record in conference play.

Green Bay has faced a tough schedule throughout the first six games and has shown grit with Josh Jefferson and Amari Davis at the helm on offense, both rank inside the top 10 in Horizon League scoring. The Phoenix will also have some help from newcomer Donavan Moore after the NCAA Division I Council voted earlier this week that he is immediately eligible to play. Moore comes from Toledo after a 2019-2020 freshman campaign that saw him play in 8 games while shooting 55% from the field. Moore will be joined by another transfer in Emmanuel Ansong. The Division II transfer was coached by Ryan last season at Wheeling and averaged 14.4 points per game while leading his team to a 14-13 record. Moore and Ansong will look to contribute immediately to help fend off the conference preseason favorite Raiders this weekend. Green Bay will tip-off at 3 pm.

Bucks cruise past Warriors

The Milwaukee Bucks got back into the W column on Christmas afternoon with a 138-99 win over the Golden State Warriors.

Khris Middleton drained six three-pointers en route to a 31-point game. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a rare off day, scoring 15 points on 4-14 shooting. New addition Jrue Holiday pitched in 12 points while D.J. Augustin and Bobby Portis also reached double figures. Steph Curry led all Warriors with 19 points. Four others reached double figures.

The game was decided at the arc as the Bucks hit 20 three-pointers while the Warriors missed 35 three-pointers. It was part of the reason why the Bucks were able to extend their lead in the second half, outscoring the Warriors by 29 points after the break.

The Bucks are back in action on Sunday when they play the Knicks.

Badgers celebrate Christmas in winning fashion

The ninth ranked Wisconsin Badgers mens’ basketball team threw up a win on the road over the 12th ranked Michigan State Spartans on Christmas day, 85-76.

The Badgers improved to 8-l overall and 2-0 in Big Ten Conference play on Christmas day. Wisconsin’s road victory at Michigan State is the first time since 2004 that the program has won at the Breslin Center, the victory qualified as their 10th consecutive conference win aging back to last season. Wisconsin’s D’Mitrik Trice was cooking from the field early on to generate a tied game to end the first half, 42-42. Second half play saw the Badgers outscore the Spartans by nine points for a Christmas day victory gift. Trice finished with 29 points while Aleem Ford added 13 of his own for the Badgers. Wisconsin shared close numbers with the Spartans but ceased opportunity on points off turnovers with 24 compared to Michigan State's nine points. Steven Point, Wisconsin native Joey Hauser led Michigan State with 27 points on the day but it was not enough to scare off Bucky. The Badgers will travel back home to face Maryland next Monday for another conference game at 6pm.

Bucks look for season's first win Friday

After falling in heartbreaking fashion on Wednesday night, the  Milwaukee Bucks will look for their first win of the season when they host the Golden State Warriors in a Christmas Day matinee.

The Bucks stormed back in the fourth quarter of its game against the Boston Celtics to take a slim lead, only to see it slip away when Jayson Tatum hit a bank shot three-pointer to steal the game in the closing moments. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 37 points and Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday each scored over 20 points in the Bucks 122-121 loss to the Celtics.

The Warriors did not fair much better, losing its opener on Tuesday against the Brooklyn Nets 125-99. Steph Curry scored 20 points and collected 10 assists while two other players reached double figures.

Tip is set for 1:30 p.m.

The Vikings came into the start of the 2020-21 season with seven seniors, all of which amassed game playing experience in their state playoff run last season. Brewers add utility man

The Milwaukee Brewers added some depth to their 40-man roster earlier this week by signing utilityman, Tim Lopes.

The Brewers announced on Twitter that they had signed Lopes off waivers after recently being with the Seattle Mariners. Interestingly enough the Brewers were able to fill a void at the MLB and minor league level with Lopes because of his remaining minor league options. Lopes was selected in the sixth round at pick No. 191 by the Seattle Mariners in the 2012 MLB draft. The 26-year old spent time with the Mariners in 2019 and 2020 and earned over 128 plate appearances in his time. Lopes saw a .270 batting average in his short Major League time and prior to that he batted .277 over an eight season span in the minor league system.

Boston’s Jason Tatum hit a go ahead three-point bank shot with 1.5 seconds left of play. Marquette swallows tough conference loss

The Marquette Golden Eagles mens’ basketball team swallowed a tough loss on Sunday afternoon against the Xavier Musketeers, 91-88.

Marquette and Xavier shared similar statistical numbers in the first half but the Musketeers did not entertain the same idea in the second half, shooting 69% from the field compared to the Golden Eagles 56%. Marquette trailed by four points with 25 seconds remaining prior to Koby McEwen splashing a three-pointer from the left side that was followed up by a successful free throw attempt to tie the game, 88-88. Marquette tried to send the game into overtime but Xavier’s Adam Kunkel nailed a three-pointer with four seconds left on the clock to seal the victory. Packers fend off Panthers

Phoenix drop a pair of games to NDSU over the weekend

The Green Bay Phoenix womens’ basketball team dropped two games to the North Dakota State Bison this past weekend. Green Bay traveled to NDSU for two games, game one was on Saturday afternoon and game two was on Sunday afternoon.

Green Bay fell to the Bison in game one on Saturday, 59-51. The story of the game consisted of the Phoenix playing catchup after a slow start. The first half of play found the Bison up 34-18 after Green Bay shot 30% throughout the entire game. The Phoenix landed 2 three-pointers all game while NDSU hit 11 three-pointers. Green Bay did make a second half comeback, outscoring the Bison 33-25 but it was not enough to propel a win. Caitlyn Hibner led the Phoenix in scoring with 13 points while Jasmine Kondrakiewicz tallied nine points.

Game two of the weekend battle with NDSU configured into the same result for the Phoenix, taking another loss, 82-66. The Phoenix couldn't solve the Bison offense led by Heaven Hamling, dropping 17 points on Green Bay. Green Bay stayed within 11 points the first half and made a third quarter comeback to bring the game within two-possessions of the Bison, 62-58. The fourth quarter brought no luck for the Phoenix after the Bison tacked on 14 more points, which would prevail for a NDSU win, 76-64. Hibner led the team again in game two with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Green Bay starts conference play at home on Saturday against Milwaukee.

Packers ground Eagles

The Green Bay Packers path to the playoffs increased its chances with a quality win over the Philadelphia Eagles, 30-16. The Packers marched right back with a 14-play drive that resulted in a one-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams from Aaron Rodgers. The Packers offense capped off the first half with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Robert Tonyan and extended their lead, 14-3. The Eagles came out in the second half with a substitution at quarterback in Jalen Hurts and delivered a scare for the Packers after back-to-back scores to make the game 23-16. Aaron Jones delivered a fourth quarter 77-yard touchdown run to seal the game. Adams gathered another 100+ yard receiving game while Rodgers hit a career milestone in chucking his 400th career touchdown pass. Green Bay travels to Detroit next Sunday for a NFC North matchup.

Southern Door outwrestles Bay Port

The Southern Door wrestling team won its first dual of the season on Saturday, beating Bay Port 48-22 in a spur-of-the-moment ordeal.

The meet was scheduled just a day prior after Coleman had to back out of its dual against the Eagles due to COVID-19 concerns. The Pirates themselves were not wrestling with a full team,  forfeiting seven of the 14 weights. Southern Door also wrestled with less than a full line-up, giving up points in two weight classes and forfeiting a common one with Bay Port. The Eagles got their first win of the season from Alex Buhr, who won a close 2-0 match over Trevor Finger. Kyle Conard won his match at 152 pounds with a 6-0 decision over Colton Klimek while Grant Englebert followed up a few weight classes later at 170 pounds with a pin. Owen Noel (pin of Trevor Englebert) and Matt Grzybowski (major decision against Hayden Jeanquart) got the only contested wins for the Pirates.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday against Oconto.

Packers path to the playoffs continues

The Green Bay Packers path to the playoffs continues this Sunday at home against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Packers have persevered through the pandemic and injuries to collect an 8-3 record. Green Bay is coming off a division win over the Chicago Bears last Sunday, 41-25. Packers head coach Matt Lafleur looks for his defense to keep the takeaway trend rolling, the Packers have eight turnovers the last four games and Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has thrown 15 interceptions this season. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a new weapon in receiver Tavon Austin, Austin spoke with packers.com earlier this week about his play time outlook: “As soon as the coaches feel like it's time for me, hopefully I get back there and can get a spark and get this special teams rolling. That'd be one of the big parts I can come to this team about. So just slowly working in, and hopefully my day (will) come." Green Bay kicks off at 3:25pm.

Marquette beats Wisconsin at the buzzer

The fourth ranked Wisconsin Badgers no longer remain undefeated after the Marquette Golden Eagles managed a last second buzzer beater free throw tip-in Friday night to seal the deal, 67-65. Wisconsin had their first true test of the season and couldn't generate enough offense for a win. Micah Potter tallied the first five points of the game for Wisconsin but Marquette’s freshman Justin Lewis and sophomore D.J. Carton fired right back with buckets of their own. The first half ended with a Marquette lead, 35-30. The second half consisted of both squads trading baskets until Marquette freshman Lewis tipped-in a last second shot off a free throw miss to earn the Golden Eagles a win. Lewis ended the game with 18 points and 8 rebounds while D’Mitrik Trice scored 17 points for Wisconsin. The Badgers compiled 10 turnovers that gave way for Marquette to collect 13 points off the Wisconsin turnovers. Marquette moves to 3-1 and takes on UWGB next Tuesday. Southern Door wrestling scraps Coleman, scrimmages Bay Port

The Southern Door wrestling team will have a shorter drive than originally planned when they host Bay Port for a scrimmage.

In the past, this weekend has been reserved for a triple dual against Stratford and two other teams, but multi-team meets have been ditched for the 2020-2021 season due to COVID-19 concerns. With teams only able to schedule one dual a week, the Eagles then scheduled defending state champion Coleman, but even that dual was recently scrapped. Now the Eagles, led by state qualifiers Grant Englebert and Griffin Slezewski, will wrestle against Bay Port after Pirates came to Brussels last year for a double-dual.  With several of its top wrestlers not making the trip, the Pirates beat the Eagles 51-30.

The uniform will be smeared by a three-tone blue color that is derived from the Great Lakes and three rivers that run through the city. In addition, the uniform will symbolize Milwaukee’s beginning and their role in bringing people together. Also featured on the left bottom part of the uniform will be a phrase called “gathering place” to go along with the symbolization meaning.

Brewers make moves at non-tender deadline

The Milwaukee Brewers made their first roster addition for their 2020-21 campaign by signing Luke Maile among other moves made before Wednesday's non-tender deadline.

The 29 year-old catcher was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2012 and was selected in the eighth round of the draft. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal announced that the Brewers and Maile agreed to a major league deal that allows for a minor-league option. Maile was non-tendered by the Blue Jays during the 2019 offseason and signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates immediately after but missed 2020 due to a finger injury. Maile’s best season came in 2018 when he hit .248 with three home runs over 231 plate appearances. Milwaukee currently has Omar Narvaez and Manny Pina sharing catching duties but both players are arbitration-eligible.

Pina was among the four Brewers players signed to one-year deals on Wednesday. Dan Vogelbach, Orlando Arcia, and Omar Narvaez signed one-year deals for in some cases less than their 2020 pro-rated salaries. Pitchers Josh Hader and Brandon Woodruff were tendered contracts but could get big raises through the arbitration process. Ben Gamel, Jace Peterson, and Alex Claudio were not tendered contracts while Corey Knebel's time with the Brewers is also done after being sent to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a player to be named later and cash.

Blizzard cap off November with roster additions

The Green Bay Blizzard added more players to their roster in preparation for the 2021 season.

The Blizzard added former Alabama A&M quarterback Damion May. May was named Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week before transferring to the University of Charleston where he finished his collegiate playing career and earned his undergraduate degree. May will be joined behind the offensive line by the Blizzard resignee in running back Rameses Owens. Owens joined the Blizzard in late 2018 and was ranked in the top 10 in the Indoor Football League for yards per game in 2019. Green Bay also signed former Northwestern State running back Jared West to compliment Owens.

On the defensive side the Blizzard brought in former Wisconsin Badgers standout David Pfaff. Pfaff played as a lineman from 2017-2019 suiting up for 9 games his senior year. Pfaff will be joined on the defensive line by Cassius Peat, a former Michigan State player that was a part of the 2015 Big Ten Conference championship. The Blizzard re-signed defensive back Christopher Thompson for another season as well.

Brewers focus on league deadline

The Milwaukee Brewers organization will be focused on Wednesday, ahead of the deadline for MLB teams to tender offers to their pre-arbitration and arbitration-eligible players for next season. Milwaukee outfielder Matt Gamel fell into this deadline after the Brewers declined his $2.5 million team option earlier this fall. Gamel batted only .237 and hit 2 home runs in 40 games last season. After giving time to outfielders Tyrone Taylor and Jace Peterson, Gamel could see his time in Milwaukee come to an end if a deal is not made by Wednesday.

Packers land veteran receiver

The Green Bay Packers have signed eight year NFL veteran receiver Tavon Austin. Austin comes into the Packers organization after spending time with the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams. The 2013 draft pick was selected in the first round by the Rams and spent five seasons with Los Angeles before departing in the 2017 offseason. According to an NFL Network source the 29 year-old receiver officially signed on Monday evening with Green Bay and passed all of his required COVID-19 testing in the process. The Journal Sentinel reported late last week that Austin was in town for a tryout with the Packers. Green Bay felt as if Austin would contribute multiple ways, especially in the special teams return game. Head coach Matt LaFleur coached Austin in 2017 when he was the offensive coordinator for the Rams.
