The Kewaunee girls basketball team ended 2024 on a high note, beating Wrightstown in front of a home audience 45-19 on Monday night.
The Storm opened the game scoring the first six points, but the Tigers would whittle the advantage down to 11-8 midway through the first half. The Storm would put a stranglehold on the contest after that, outscoring the Tigers 12-4 the rest of the way to make it 23-12 at the break. The Storm only made things worse for the Tigers in the second half, holding them to just two points over the final 9:33. They outscored the Tigers 17-2 during that span.
The Storm improved to 8-1 on the season and will play Sheboygan Lutheran on Thursday.

The Green Bay Gamblers will celebrate the end of 2024 with their traditional New Year's Eve game Tuesday night against the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders.
In their last game, the Gamblers held on to beat the Madison Capitols 2-1 in overtime to steal a sweep of their in-state rivals Saturday night at the Resch Center. The tightly contested game would see no scoring until William Samuelsson lit the lamp more than seven minutes into the third period. The Capitols would tie the game seven minutes later, and the game entered the extra period deadlocked at one. Lukas Peterson took care of business quickly for the Gamblers, registering the game-winner 21 seconds into overtime.
The Rough Riders are 3-3 in December, including a series split against Dubuque last weekend. They won the first game 6-3 before falling in the second game 4-3.
The puck drop is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
The Green Bay Blizzard is saying good bye to one of its stalwart players due to retirement.
OL Trent Clark announced this week that he was retiring from professional football after playing for the Blizzard the past two season. During his time on the line, the Blizzard posted a 21-12 record. He was a critical part of an offensive line that allowed the third-fewest sacks in back-to-back seasons.

For the second time this season, the Green Bay Packers dug themselves a hole they would not be able to dig out of against the Minnesota Vikings, this time a 27-25 loss on Sunday in Minneapolis.
The Packers took an early lead thanks to a Brandon McManus field goal, but they lost a fumble and were stopped on fourth and short, which allowed the Vikings to score the next 20 points and take a 20-3 lead into the locker room.
Josh Jacobs would cut the lead in half late in the third quarter on a short touchdown run, only to see the Vikings score a touchdown on the next drive. The Packers would score twice in the final 6:30 thanks to an Emmanuel Wilson rushing score and a three-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Malik Wilson, but they would remain porous on defense as they allowed Sam Darnold to find Cam Akers on a game-clinching third down conversion to seal the game for the Vikings.
Love ended the day 19-for-30 for 185 yards and a touchdown, most of which came late in the second half. Jacobs ran for 69 yards on the ground as the Packers' rushing game once again topped 100 yards. Darnold picked apart the Packers' banged-up secondary, throwing for over 370 yards and three touchdowns.
The Packers will face the Chicago Bears in their regular season finale at Lambeau Field on Sunday at noon.
On Sunday, the Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team saw plenty of change in a short period of time, but it resulted in another loss, this time an 83-67 decision to Purdue Fort Wayne.
Power outage issues forced the game at the Resch Center to be delayed first by 20 minutes before it was eventually delayed for almost two hours as it was moved to the Kress Events Center. It didn't change the result, as the Phoenix fell behind early before a 15-0 run by the Mastodons put them in a hole they would never be able to dig out of. The 20-point halftime advantage would grow to as much as 23 points before the Phoenix posted an 8-0 run to shrink the deficit before the Mastodons held them at bay the rest of the way.
Preston Ruedinger led the way for the Phoenix with 12 points. Ryan Wade added 11 points, while Ben Tweedy and Marcus Hall chipped in nine. Quinton Morton-Robertson led all scorers with 16 points for the Mastodons.
The Phoenix will hit the road this week for a pair of games, beginning with Wright State on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by a trip to Northern Kentucky on Saturday for a noon tip.
The Green Bay Packers will have pride and playoff seeding on the line Sunday afternoon when they play the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
The Packers posted the NFL's first shutout on Monday Night Football in their last game, a 34-0 drubbing of the New Orleans Saints. Jordan Love made 16 completions for 186 yards and a score, while the running game took the load of the work for the Packers, accumulating 188 yards on nearly 40 carries. Josh Jacobs led the way with 69 yards on 13 carries to go with his 38 receiving yards on four receptions. The Packers' defense recorded two turnovers and three sacks while allowing less than 200 yards of offense.
The Vikings are on an eight-game winning streak since their last loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Last week, the Vikings outlasted the Seattle Seahawks 27-24 on the road behind 246 passing yards and three touchdowns from Sam Darnold, two of which went to Justin Jefferson as a part of his 10-catch, 144-yard day.
In the matchup, the Vikings jumped out to a 28-0 lead before holding off the Packers to win 31-29. The two teams play Sunday at 3:25 p.m.
After entering the holiday break on a forgettable note, the Green Bay Phoenix men hope to start a streak of a different kind on Sunday when they play Purdue Fort Wayne at the Resch Center.
The last time the Phoenix played, they came off a close loss to Michigan Tech and battled Drake tough, but ultimately came up empty with a 72-62 loss on Saturday night in Des Moines. The game was absent of its usual second-half swoon, marking a possible turn of their season's misfortune. Instead, a 15-2 run midway through the first half sank the Phoenix. In Anthony Roy's absence, Mac Wrecke had his best night in a Phoenix uniform as he scored a career-high 19 points. Preston Ruedinger (14 points) and Marcus Hall (10 points) also finished double figures for the Phoenix.
The Mastodons have won four of their last five with a 89-58 loss to Michigan before the holidays the lone blemish during that span. They are tied for fourth place in the Horizon League with a 2-1 mark and currently sit at 9-5 on the season.
Because of the Packers, the game has been moved from a 4 p.m. tip to a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.

The Green Bay Gamblers held on to beat the Madison Capitols 2-1 in overtime to steal a sweep of their in-state rivals Saturday night at the Resch Center.

FRIDAY'S ACTION
Whether it is being played in Titletown or not, Green Bay is definitely the common thread between all of the area boys basketball games being played on Saturday.
Three Southern Door players scored in double figures but they were still left chasing Mosinee 72-64 in the opening game of the Green Bay Preble Holiday Tournament on Friday. The Eagles will face Milwaukee Washington on Saturday at noon after they lost to the host Hornets 80-71. The squad features two of the top scorers in the state: Rudy Baker, who averages 27.5 points per game, and Solomon Dotson, who registers 25.0 points per game.
Luxemburg-Casco will join the Sun-Drop Shootout fray at the Kress Events Center with a 5 p.m. game against Green Bay Southwest.

The Green Bay Gamblers' Mykhailo Danylov scored at least one goal in every period of their 4-1 win over the Madison Capitols Friday night at the Resch Center.
Danylov got the Gamblers on the scoreboard three minutes into the first period, with teammate Vasily Zelenov breaking a 1-1 tie midway through the second period. He would tally his second and third goals late in the second and third periods, respectively, with the final tally coming on an empty netter. Gavin Moffatt picked up the win, stopping 28 of the 29 shots he faced.
The two teams face each other again Saturday night at 6:05 p.m.
After nearly a week off from competition, area wrestling teams will hit the mats once again on Friday.

Ranked in the top 10 in the state for Division 4, the Eagles were least seen flying past their Door County rivals Sturgeon Bay last Friday 66-38. Nine different Eagles would find their way into the scoring column on the night. The top three scorers, however, were the usual suspects. Drew Daoust and Caden Pierre each had 16 points, just ahead of Lauden Berg and his 14 points. Daoust and Berg each scored all their points from two-point range, and Caden Pierre hit four from behind the arc.
The Indians head into the matchup 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Great Northern Conference. Brayden Reinke averages a double-double per game with 19.1 ppg and 12.4 rpg. His teammate Treve Stoffel flirts with a triple-double each game average 15.4 ppg, 9.0 rpg, and 6.3 apg.

The Capitols are 3-1 during the span, last splitting their matchups against Muskegon before the holiday break.

If they had practiced, the Green Bay Packers believe four of their players would not have hit the practice field during their Christmas Day preparations.
Quay Walker (ankle), Christian Watson (knee), Evan Williams (quad), and Ty'Ron Hopper (knee) were listed as not participating, according to the Packers' injury report released on Wednesday. Javon Bullard (knee), Tucker Kraft (hip), and Luke Musgrave (ankle) were limited, while Jaire Alexander (knee) and Corey Ballentine (knee) were listed as full participants.
The Vikings also did not practice on Wednesday, but eight players, including three who were either limited or did not practice, would have been on the injury list.
Two area teams are ranked in their respective sports ahead of the New Year next week.
In basketball, no girls teams are ranked according to WisSports, but the Southern Door boys are #7 in Division 4 with a 4-1 mark. That is up two spots from the previous week. Drew Daoust is 16th highest scorer in the state with an average of 28.4 points per game.
In wrestling, Luxemburg-Casco is the tenth-ranked team in Division 1 after being bumped up from Division 2 ahead of the 2024-2025 season. The Spartans have five wrestlers ranked according to WisconsinGrappler.com, including Carson Blohowiak (9th, 120 lbs), Carson Neubert (1st, 132 lbs.), Joseph Jeanquart (9th, 138 lbs), Blakelee Bastien (4th, 144 lbs.), and Logan Ellwanger (11th, 165 lbs.). The NFL bumped the Cowboys/Eagles from the 3:25 p.m. slot to accommodate the NFC North matchup. The Packers are trying to earn their second NFC North win of the season after losing their home matchups to the Lions and the Vikings and their road contest in Detroit. The Packers could still split their NFC North matchups with a win on Sunday and a victory against the Chicago Bears in the regular season finale.

“Do Your Job” was a common refrain heard in the Southern Door Auditorium on Thursday afternoon as Southern Door High School head football and track coach Scott Mallien was honored for doing his. Mallien received the Semper Fi Coach Award from the United States Marine Corps during a special assembly after being nominated by athletic director Ben Kline.
He was celebrated for not just his nearly 40-year coaching career, which includes a 2015 state title, but the character-building and accountability he fostered in his student-athletes. Mallien is proud of the connections he has forged during his career that led to Thursday’s announcement.

The Green Bay Packers led wire-to-wire, recording the NFL's first shutout of the season, beating the New Orleans Saints.
The Packers scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, with Dontayvion Wicks catching a quick pass from Jordan Love while Josh Jacobs and Chris Brooks broke the line for the other two. Meanwhile, two punts and a fumble made the first half forgettable for the Saints, which gained only 81 yards.
The Packers were not as prolific in the second half, but just as effective as Brandon McManus banged in two field goals to put the Packers up 27-0 midway through the fourth quarter. With Malik Willis behind center, the Packers lit the fireworks one more time as Emmanuel Wilson found the endzone from one yard out to give them their final margin of victory.
Love made 16 completions for 186 yards and a score, while the running game took the load of the work for the Packers, accumulating 188 yards on nearly 40 carries. Jacobs led the way with 69 yards on 13 carries to go with his 38 receiving yards on four receptions. The Packers' defense recorded two turnovers and three sacks while allowing less than 200 yards of offense.
The Packers will face a more formidable task on a short week when they play in Minnesota to face the Vikings at 3:25 p.m. Sunday.

When it comes to the schedule, as the Green Bay Packers go, so do the Green Bay basketball teams.
The Green Bay Packers' noon matchup against the Minnesota Vikings was flexed to 3:25 p.m. as the two teams battle for seeding in the upcoming NFC playoffs. As a result, the Phoenix men's game on Sunday was moved from 4 p.m. to 1 p.m. to accommodate fans who may want to get home in time to watch the game on TV.
If you already have your tickets, those will be valid at the gate on game day.
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association performance factor initiative has advanced through the process for the second year with a review of the fall sports to be effective in 2025. This update includes four sport programs that were inadvertently not listed in the initial release identifying the divisional movements and are included in the listing below.
School programs reaching the six-point threshold during the past three seasons are placed in the division containing the next largest set of enrollments from where the schools’ enrollments would place them for each respective sport other than track & field, swimming &?diving–which do not have a team component to advancement in the Tournament Series–and sports with only one division. Schools are restricted to moving up a maximum of one division from the previous year’s placement.
This initiative affords schools the opportunity to request to move to a division with lower enrollments for all sports except football, swimming &?diving, and track &?field in 2025-26. The Classification Committee reviewed four such requests for girls volleyball (Omro, Oshkosh North, Salam and Sheboygan South), one for boys soccer (Sheboygan South), one for both boys and girls cross country (Sheboygan South boys and girls), and two for girls tennis (Roncalli/Two Rivers and Sheboygan South). The committee approved four requests in girls volleyball (Omro, Oshkosh North, Salam and Sheboygan South), one in boys soccer (Sheboygan South), one in boys cross country (Sheboygan South) and one in girls tennis (Sheboygan South).
The school sports programs that have accumulated at least six points to engage a promotion to a division with higher enrollments–if their 2025-26 tournament placement enrollment doesn’t initially move them up a division–are listed below. Four sport programs were inadvertently not included in the prior release listing the impacted programs. Those four programs are Lancaster in girls cross country, and Catholic Memorial, Columbus and Rice Lake in 11-player football.
Please note that programs that meet the performance points threshold to be promoted and are initially assigned to a lower enrollment division–based on their 2025-26 tournament assignment enrollments–will be promoted back into the division they competed in during the most recent season’s Tournament Series.

The performance factor process affords schools the opportunity to appeal their promotion to the division with the next largest enrollments based on performance points. Of the 52 programs listed above that compiled points to engage in a promotion, 11 appeals were submitted. The Classification Committee evaluated one appeal in girls volleyball (Wonewoc-Center), two in boys soccer (Lake Country Lutheran and Waukesha West), three in boys cross country (Cedar Grove-Belgium, Solon Springs and West Salem), two in girls cross country (Lancaster and Xavier), one in girls tennis (Aquinas) and two in football (Badger and Wrightstown). The two approved appeals were Wonewoc-Center in girls volleyball and Xavier in girls cross country.
The original ad hoc committee consisting of 11 superintendents/district administrators, six athletic directors, one principal and one principal/athletic director proposed the performance factor process, which was approved by a 265-115 membership vote at the 2023 Annual Meeting that is being implemented in 2024-25. The current committee consists of nine athletic directors, two principals and seven superintendents.
The performance factor initiative promotes school programs that reach a threshold of tournament success based on a performance point system allocated over a three-year period.
The WIAA will determine the Tournament Series assignments to be released for all 2025 fall sports except football and girls volleyball in early January 2025. For more on the performance factor process, visit the Classification Committee homepage on the WIAA website.
The Green Bay Packers will try to make a holiday night statement on Monday when they welcome the New Orleans Saints to Lambeau Field.
The Packers have won four of their last five games, including last Sunday's 31-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Jordan Love's night ended with him going 20-27 for 229 yards and two touchdowns. Jacobs led a rushing attack that accumulated 140 yards on the night as he rushed for 94 yards on 26 attempts. The Packers were also able to get to the quarterback, especially after Geno Smith's injury in the second half forced Sam Howell into action. The team registered seven sacks and two interceptions, including two sacks from Kingsley Engabare and picks from Edgerrin Cooper and Carrington Valentine.
The Saints are without many of their offensive weapons, including starting quarterback Derek Carr, running back Alvin Kamara, and tight end Taysom Hill. Despite that, they have won three of their last five games.
Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m.
The area's wrestlers received plenty of hardware and important experience this past weekend in tournament action.
The Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol wrestling team scored 329 points on the day to take third place in the Willard Schmidt Invitational Saturday in Green Bay. Spencer Madsen led the way, adding another title to his name this weekend while also being named the tournament's most outstanding wrestler. Madsen was not alone in the finals with Zak Wrobel, Ethan DeNamur, and Seth Laughlin taking second place.
The Southern Door wrestling team put two wrestlers in the finals as they finished in eighth place in the 14-team Willard Schmidt Invitational held at Green Bay Preble on Saturday. Lance Veeser and Chance Dekeyser took second place in their respective weight classes to pace the Eagles on the day. Clark LeFevre and Ethan Alexander were able to end their days on high notes, finishing in the top five.
The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team finished in 28th place overall at the Kansas City Stampede Tournament out of 90-plus teams over the weekend. Carson Neubert was the lone placewinner in the main tournament as he went 7-1 on the weekend to take third place overall. He captured the medal with a decision over Aiden Hahn (Farmington). Wrestlers that didn't stay in the main tournament after Friday entered the "Hard Luck" Bracket. That saw Joseph Jeanquart and Ethan Werner take second place and Mason Boulanger capture third place.
In Friday's action, Kewaunee lost its three duals at Wrightstown's Bill Verbeten Classic. They lost to Omro 40-30, Wrightstown 58-24, and Brillion 53-24. The Storm bounced back on Saturday with a ninth place finish at the Oostburg Invitational, scoring 65 points on the day. The bulk of those points were scored by Boeder, who secured three pins en route to a title at 285 pounds. Trevor Gauthier came in third place at 150 pounds and two others finished in the top five.

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team will have a week to regroup after all eyes were focused on them following a shocking 72-70 loss to Michigan Tech last week.
The Phoenix men ended the week with a 72-62 loss to undefeated Drake on Saturday night in Des Moines.
The Phoenix return to action on December 29th at 4 p.m. for a tilt against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons.
The Kewaunee Storm played a makeup game from Thursday, traveling to Oconto, and came away with a 79-61 victory over the Blue Devils in Packerland Conference action.
The Sevastopol Pioneers fell 76-43 to the Wabeno/Laona Rebels at home in a non-conference matinee game.
The Green Bay Lady Phoenix jumped to a 25-14 lead in the first quarter and did not look back, defeating the UW-Parkside Rangers 76-39.
Jenna Geyer led the Phoenix attack with 18 points as four Green Bay players scored in double figures, including Luxemburg-Casco alum Cassie Schiltz who knocked in 11 points.
Green Bay dominated in the paint, scoring early and often in the paint with 40 points inside for the game.
The Lady Phoenix (9-4) will now have some time off before returning to Horizon League play on January 2 against Northern Kentucky.
Several teams will resume wrestling on Saturday with tournaments both in and out of state.
On Saturday, Southern Door and Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol will travel to Green Bay Preble for the Willard Schmidt Invitational. In addition to the host school, Kaukauna, Neenah, Seymour, Chilton, Freedom, Lomira, Menominee Indian, Mishicot, Ozaukee, Ripon, Sheboygan South, and Waupaca will also participate when the first matches begin at 9:45 a.m.
As of 10:30 p.m., no results were posted from Kewaunee's quad meet at Brillion
Luxemburg-Casco will resume its weekend residency in Missouri on Saturday morning for the Kansas City Stampede tournament. You can find out how the Spartans are faring by clicking this link.
GIRLS WRESTLING
Luxemburg-Casco's two girls wrestlers each posted multiple victories in Friday's Lady Tiger Invite. Jakayla Steinhorst earned two wins to take fourth place overall, while teammate Evelyn Lange posted three wins to take third place overall.
Arianna Niemojuski had a Friday to remember for the Kewaunee girls wrestling team at the Lady Tiger Invite. After receiving a bye in the first round, Niemojuski pinned four straight opponents to earn first place at 152 pounds.
The Southern Door girls wrestling team rode three runner-up finishes to place third at Friday's Lady Tiger Invite. Nora LeFevre, Sydney Turner, and Attyson Wilson posted multiple pins on their way to second place in their respective finishes. Turner had to wrestle her way back to take second place. Portia Hah also reached the podium with a third place place finish.

The Horizon League will be the sole focus moving forward after the Green Bay Phoenix women and men return to action on Saturday.
The Phoenix women open the day with a 1 p.m. tip against UW-Parkside. They are coming off of a win against another Wisconsin-based D-3 school, Ripon College on Thursday.
The Phoenix men will try to snap a long losing skid when they play at Drake at 5 p.m. They allowed Division 2 Michigan Tech to climb back from 13 down to beat them 72-70 in front of 5200 fans at the Resch Center.
Both teams will play Horizon League rivals the rest of the way after Saturday's matchups.
Friday proved to be a busy night for area high school basketball fans, but some games are still slated for Saturday ahead of the Christmas break next week.
On Friday in Packerland Conference Girls Basketball, The Algoma Wolves defeated the Sturgeon Bay Clippers 62-40.
At Kewaunee, the Storm blew by the Sevastopol Pioneers 53-35.
In NEC action, the Luxemburg-Casco Lady Spartans edged the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes 49-47.
Just two matinees are on the schedule for Saturday. Kewaunee will make up its Thursday game at Oconto at 1 p.m., while Sevastopol will host a regularly scheduled game against Wabeno/Laona at 2 p.m.
After snow postponed games on Thursday, basketball courts will heat up again on Friday for basketball.
The 3-1 Southern Door Eagles travel to Sturgeon Bay Friday night to take on the 3-2 Clippers on U102.1. Jacob Nate will have the call at 6:45 p.m. pregame before the 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
Most of the action will involve the ladies, with Luxemburg-Casco hosting Fox Valley Lutheran (7 p.m.), Sturgeon Bay traveling to Algoma (7 p.m.), and Sevastopol visiting Kewaunee (7 p.m.).
Several of last night's games have been rescheduled (BBB is boys basketball, GBB is girls basketball):

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, in cooperation with Rural Mutual Insurance Company, has selected the team Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2024 fall State Tournaments.
The recipients of the awards are Lomira in football, Elkhorn in boys soccer, Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran in girls volleyball, Appleton North in boys volleyball and Kohler in girls team tennis.
The WIAA/Rural Insurance Sportsmanship Award is presented to one school program and community–or communities in the case of cooperative programs–in each of the State team tournaments that demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship. Award winners are determined by the conduct and sportsmanship displayed by athletes, coaches, cheer and support groups, mascots, bands and spectators. Additional consideration is given for the effort of school administrators and chaperones to ensure support for their teams are positive and that the highest ideals of sportsmanship are demonstrated.
Lomira was chosen for the award with its display of outstanding sportsmanship at the State Football Finals, which was held at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis., on Nov. 21-22. The Lions earn the school’s first Sportsmanship Award in any sport. Lomira won the Division 6 championship by defeating Grantsburg 26-19 in the program’s first appearance in the championship game. Participants in the 8-player and 11-player finals receiving honorable mention are Catholic Memorial, Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas, Owen-Withee and Wrightstown.
Elkhorn receives the award in boys’ soccer with its display of sportsmanship both on the field and in the stands during the State Boys Soccer Tournament at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee on Nov. 7-9. The Elks finished runner-up after being on the short end of a 2-1 tally in a shootout following a 0-0 tie with Waukesha West in the Division 2 championship game. They advanced to the title game with a 1-0 victory over Homestead in the semifinals. The Elks earn the Sportsmanship Award for the second time with the school’s first recognition awarded in boys soccer in 2011. DeForest, Homestead, Kiel, Lake Country Lutheran and Marquette received honorable mention.
Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran is the recipient of the award for the State Girls Volleyball Tournament, which was held at the Resch Center in Green Bay on Nov. 7-9. The Lancers earned the school’s second Sportsmanship Award in girls volleyball, which also accounts for their overall total. They received their previous honor in 2020. The sportsmanship and enthusiasm during a 25-10, 23-25, 25-19, 25-21 win in the first-ever Division 5 championship game against Columbus Catholic and the Lancers’ 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19 semifinal victory versus Sheboygan Christian contributed to excellent evaluations. Schools receiving honorable mention were Bay Port, Columbus Catholic, Lake Country Lutheran, Mineral Point, Newman Catholic, Oak Creek, St. Thomas More, Shawano and Sheboygan Christian.
Appleton North was the winner of the award for the State Boys Volleyball Tournament held in conjunction with the girls tournament. The Lightning are being recognized for their sportsmanship above the other seven schools participating in the one-division tournament. They fell in their quarterfinal match to Germantown by scores of 30-28, 25-21, 25-17. It’s the first time Appleton North has been presented with the award. Kenosha Indian Trail received honorable mention for the award.
Kohler is the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award at the State Girls Team Tennis Tournament held Oct. 25-26 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. It’s the second time the Blue Bombers have been awarded the honor. The previous selection in boys basketball came in 1999. Kohler fell 5-2 in their semifinal match against Aquinas. Honorable Mention for the award was issued to Neenah.
Award winners receive a trophy and banner in recognition of the honor. Schools receiving honorable mention are acknowledged with a certificate of recognition. The selection process includes contributions and evaluations from contest officials, tournament management, police and security personnel, crowd control and ushers, WIAA staff members, and area hotels and restaurants on occasion.

In addition to the team's success on the field, Murphy engineered the development of the adjacent Titletown District, contracted more than $600 million in improvements to Lambeau Field, and brought the 2025 NFL Draft to Green Bay.
The DCY Swim Team made waves this past weekend, securing an outstanding victory at the Walter Schroeder Finalist Meet, one of the premier winter swim meets for YMCA teams in Wisconsin and Illinois. The event, known for attracting top talent across all age groups, saw 16 teams and over 2,500 events contested, with DCY SWIM emerging triumphant as one of the smallest yet mightiest teams in attendance.
With a roster of just 32 swimmers, the DCY Swim Team competed in 153 individual events and eight relays, achieving a remarkable 63 top-six finishes that contributed to their team score. Over 60 personal bests were recorded across the three-day competition, showcasing the dedication and skill of these athletes.
While holding strong in second place through Friday and Saturday, it was the younger age groups who propelled DCY to the top on Sunday, delivering outstanding performances that helped secure the overall win. This achievement was further highlighted by Julia Michalski and Daylia Sund, who both surpassed the National Cut for the 100 Breaststroke with incredible times of 1:07, well under the 1:08.19 qualifying mark.
DCY’s 15-and-over relay teams also impressed, swimming within striking distance of national qualifying times, underscoring the depth and potential of this dynamic group.
“This victory is a testament to the hard work and focus of our swimmers,” said Mike McHugh, Director of Competitive Swim. “To achieve this level of success as a smaller team is truly extraordinary. We couldn’t be prouder of our athletes.”

The Green Bay Packers are ready to welcome more events to Lambeau Field after finishing a third locker room at the facility this month.
Green Bay media outlets got a chance to tour the new 8,500-square-foot space on Monday, which has 90 locker stalls, shower stalls, and more to entice more college football games and professional soccer matches to Lambeau Field. The Packers haven't hosted a non-team event at Lambeau Field since Manchester City and Bayern Munich played an exhibition in 2022.
The tour comes as the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that the Green Bay/Brown County Professional Football Stadium District called for the city and the Packers to reopen negotiations for a new stadium lease. According to Richard Ryman, the city called off talks in January after it rejected proposals by the Packers to extend the lease beyond 2032. They said it included items not included in previous discussions and would cost the city money in the long run. It will be the status quo for the area's fall sports after the WIAA announced its divisional movement due to its performance factor process.
No school in Door and Kewaunee counties has received enough points over the last three years to warrant a move, though Luxemburg Casco's runner-up finish in the state volleyball tournament puts them a step ahead toward being bumped up for 2026 if they experience similar success next year. Currently, Luxemburg-Casco wrestling is the only team to be affected by the initiative.

Of the 48 programs listed above that compiled points to engage in a promotion, 11 appeals were submitted.
The current committee consists of nine athletic directors, two principals ad seven superintendents
The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team's loss to Cleveland State not only dropped them to 2-8 on the season, but prompted several questions about the state of the team on Saturday.
At the Resch Center, Cleveland State's bench outscored the Phoenix men 45-20 as they won the game 83-61. With head coach Doug Gottlieb choosing not to play his star player Anthony Roy due to philosophical differences, Foster Wonders and Mac Wrecke each tallied 10 points while Jeremiah Johnson chipped in nine points in the loss. After the game, Gottlieb would not discuss the specifics as to why his star player was benched, but compared the situation to building a house.
“It’s like if you build a house — that’s what we’re doing, we’re building a house. And if you go like, ‘Wow, you know, the foundation, well we can save money here, we save money there. You get one chance at a dream home. It’s my dream home. I’m building it. I’m going to spend the extra time and extra expense and do it the right way," Gottlieb said.
Roy did go into specifics on social media, saying his benching stemmed from him missing a morning shootaround. He was contrite in his post saying that "sitting out against Cleveland State was a very humbling experience. From here on out, I’m committed to holding myself to the highest standard. Not just in how I play, but in how I carry myself as a teammate and as a representative of this program. To my teammates and coaches, thank you for holding me accountable. I’ll do everything I can to lead by example from this point forward.”
Gottlieb accepted the apology, signaling its time to move forward and focus on their game against Milwaukee on Wednesday.
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control approved a fast-track conference realignment recommendation and other action items at its December meeting today.
The Board voted in support of a conference realignment fast-track recommendation to move The Prairie School from an independent status into the Southeast Conference in girls golf only, effective next fall. Other action items approved by the Board include the acceptance of 2023-24 independent audit report provided by Hawkins Ash CPAs, as well as the monthly general financial fund statements and reports.
The executive staff provided information to the Board reviewing the Wisconsin Athletic Director Association Conference in November, the fall Tournament Series, continued efforts to recruit and retain licensed sport officials, as well as updates on the Student-Athlete Leadership Team and the Calendar and Contact Committee. The staff also created awareness of the upcoming membership elections and the Feb. 25, 2025, deadline to declare candidacy.
The Board was apprised of a number of potential Constitutional amendments to be voted on by the membership at the Annual Meeting. Included in the discussion was the possible elimination of the Middle Level membership; a maximum contest limit for ninth-grade programs; Name, Image and Likeness regulation language and the efforts to educate the membership on the topic; election dates; a requirement for fans ejected from an interscholastic event to complete an online sportsmanship course prior to attending future home events; and a proposal addressing summer coaching contact advanced by the Calendar and Contact Committee.
In addition, the Board received liaison reports from Paul Manriquez of the Department of Public Instruction, Dan Rossmiller of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards and Brittany Spencer Grant of the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association.
The WIAA, as defined by its Constitution, is a voluntary, unincorporated, and nonprofit organization. The membership oversees interscholastic athletic programs for 514 senior high schools and 36 junior high/middle level schools in its membership. For more information, please contact the WIAA office at (715) 344-8580.
The WIAA family is deeply saddened by the loss of Karen Kuhn, 82, who was one of the first and greatest girls’ interscholastic sports pioneers in Wisconsin and the nation.
Kuhn became the first woman to serve on the WIAA executive staff when she joined the WIAA as an administrative assistant to the executive director on June 15, 1971. She was the WIAA's first sports coordinator responsible for administration of girls’ sports programs.
She was promoted to the assistant to the director in 1973, and in 1992, Kuhn was elevated to associate director. Prior to her retirement in June 2002, she was instrumental in assisting with the enhancement and growth of girls’ high school athletic opportunities statewide. Later, she would extend her expertise to boys’ sports responsibilities as well.
“The impact that Karen has had on this organization and education-based athletics in this state has been tremendous and her legacy will last forever,” WIAA Executive Director Stephanie Hauser said.
During her 31-year career with the WIAA, Kuhn was responsible for coordination of administrative efforts, playing rules, season regulations, tournament planning procedures, officials’ assignments for the sports of basketball, track & field, cross country and volleyball. She also served as the coordinator for swimming and diving, girls’ golf and girls’ tennis in addition to supervising the WIAA's Junior High/Middle Level. Additional supervisory responsibilities included gender equity issues and cheerleading.
Her experience and knowledge of girls’ interscholastic athletics made an impact at the national level, which earned her the respect of colleagues throughout the country. Kuhn was inducted into the National Federation of State High School Associations Hall of Fame in 2002. Her work at the national level included being a member of the Girls’ Advisory Council for the Division of Girls and Womens’ Sports, and she conducted presentations on various topics at the NFHS meetings, civic groups, banquets and college classes. Other NFHS committees she served on included the rules writing committees for track & field, volleyball, swimming and diving, and basketball.
At the state level, she served on WIAA task forces to study gender equity as it related to equal seasons and the imbalance of girls’ sports in fall, winter and spring seasons; seeding team sports; and out-of-season rules and regulations.
Kuhn received many honors and awards during her illustrious career. In 1996, she received the United States Volleyball Association Meritorious Service Award, and she was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Women's Sports Advocates of Wisconsin, Inc., in 1994. Kuhn was given the Award of Merit by the Wisconsin High School Track Coaches Association in 1995 and was presented with the Citation Honor Award by the Wisconsin Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance in 1992 and 2000. In addition, she has received Recognition and Leadership Awards from the Milwaukee Association of Swimming Officials, Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association, Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association, Wisconsin Track and Field Coaches Association, the NFHS and the United States Olympic Committee.
Upon her retirement, former WIAA Executive Director Doug Chickering praised Kuhn for her many accomplishments.
"Karen is more than a pioneer; she is a giant in the development of sports programs for high school girls," he said. "Her skills, though, should not be overshadowed by her gender associated reputation. She is truly a model for future athletic administrators, male or female.
"Her unselfish willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed, coupled with an enviable work ethic, served this membership for more than 30 years," he continued. "Karen's legacy will always be her determination to "stay the course" through good times and bad. She will continue to be an inspiration."
Kuhn's commitment to education and interscholastic athletics spanned almost four decades, including seven years as a teacher. She began her career in education at Steuben Junior High School in Milwaukee from 1964-66. She then taught at St. Francis High School for two years from 1966-1968 before teaching physical education at Whitefish Bay High School from 1968-71.
We miss Karen. Her name and legacy at the WIAA and the NFHS will never be forgotten.

Neither the men nor the women could fill the W column for the Green Bay Phoenix on Saturday.

The Phoenix men return to the Resch Center for a 2 p.m. tip against Cleveland State. They led by six points at the break, but a five-plus minute scoring drought paired with a 14-0 run by IU-Indianapolis led to an 84-75 defeat. Both teams were streaky in the first half, with the Phoenix answering a 10-0 Jaguars run with one of their own. A see-saw battle in the second half went the way of the Detroit Lions as they kicked a game-winning field goal to beat the Green Bay Packers 34-31 at Ford Field.
A Josh Jacobs touchdown in the final six minutes of the second half was all the Packers could muster in the first half as the Lions jumped out to a 10-0 lead and scored again before the second quarter was out to take a 17-7 lead into the locker room.
The Packers flipped the script early in the third quarter when a long 59-yard pass play to Christian Watson set up a Jordan Love touchdown pass to Tucker Kraft. A rare Jared Goff set up the next Jacobs rushing touchdown as the Packers took their first lead against the Lions, not just for the game but also the season. The Packers and Lions would trade scores the rest of the game, with Goff finding Tim Patrick twice in the end zone and Jacobs rushing for his third touchdown. A Brandon McManus touchdown tied the game with over 3:30 left, but Jake Bates' 35-yard field goal gave the Lions the win, a playoff spot, and a tighter grip on the NFC North title.
Love finished the game with 11 completions for 206 yards and one touchdown while Jacobs racked up 66 yards to go along with his three touchdowns.
The Packers will have an extended break before they play in Seattle for Sunday Night Football on December 15th.
A Cole Longacre goal late in the first period to be the lone highlight for the Green Bay Gamblers as they fell in their first American Cup against the Des Moines Buccaneers 5-1.
A defenseman's tally with five minutes to go in the first period tied the game at one before the Buccaneers took control from there. The Buccaneers scored four times thanks to a pair of goals and an assist from Nathan Delladonna. Gavin Moffatt took the loss in net for the Gamblers, stopping 24 of the 28 shots he faced.
The two teams go at it again in Rochester, New York at 7 p.m.

The Green Bay Packers hope health is on their side Thursday night when they face the league-leading and division-rival Detroit Lions.
The Packers got another fast start against the Miami Dolphins en route to a 30-17 victory on Thanksgiving night. Jordan Love finished his night going 21-28 for 274 yards and two touchdowns. Jacobs was kept in check with 43 yards rushing with a touchdown.
The Packers have not lost since they fell to the Lions at rainy Lambeau Field on November 3rd. A pick-six by Kerby Joseph complemented a touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Amon-Ra St. Brown and a run-scoring run from Jahmyr Gibbs in a 24-14 victory. Though they've had some close games along the way, the Lions haven't lost since a home defeat to Tampa Bay in September.
Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m.
The Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams both led at halftime, but only the women were able to hold onto that lead Wednesday night against IU Indianapolis.
At the Kress Center in Green Bay, the Phoenix women outscored the Jaguars 22-3 in the first quarter on their way to a 78-56 win. The Phoenix hit nine three-pointers in the contest, with Luxemburg-Casco alum Cassie Schiltz knocking down four en route to a 12-point game. She was one of five players to reach double-figures, led by Maddy Schreiber's 16 points. The Phoenix returns to life on the road Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. tip with Purdue Fort Wayne.
Inside the Jungle of Indianapolis, the Phoenix men led by six points at the break, but a five-plus minute scoring drought paired with a 14-0 run by the Jaguars led to an 84-75 defeat. Both teams were streaky in the first half, with the Phoenix answering a 10-0 Jaguars run with one of their own. Anthony Roy once again led the way with 34 points, with Foster Wonders adding 14 and Marcus Hall chipping in another 11. They will return home on Saturday to host Cleveland State at the Resch Center for a 2 p.m. tip.
The traditional Friday-Saturday set is being thrown out this weekend as the Green Bay Gamblers face the Des Moines Buccaneers on Thursday and Friday to open the month.
The vibes of a four-game winning streak disappeared last weekend when the Gamblers were swept by the Tri-City Storm at the Resch Center. In the final game of the series, Andrew O'Sullivan tied the game up at 1-1 halfway through the first period, but it was 3-1 by the time Will Zellers put the puck in the net, only to have the Storm score two more times to end the game. Gavin Moffatt stopped 28 of the 32 shots he faced in the loss.
The Buccaneers find themselves in seventh place in the eight-team Western Conference, going 0-9-1-0 over their last 10 games.

The Badgers had several chances at the end to tie the game in the final minute, but Max Klesmit missed two three-pointers, and a desperation half-court heave by John Tonje rimmed out to end the Badgers hopes.

The Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions are trending in opposite directions when it comes to their injury reports, and that's good news for fans of the Green and Gold.
The Packers listed 13 players on their injury report, but only Elgton Jenkins (Knee), Edgerrin Cooper (Hamstring), and Corey Ballentine (Knee) did not practice. That means that Jaire Alexander (Knee) and Romeo Doubs (Concussion) were able to practice for the first time in a week, albeit on a limited basis.
The Lions have less people listed on their injury report at six, but four of them (T Taylor Decker, DL Levi Onwuzurike, DL Josh Paschal, and DL DJ Reader) could not go on Monday.
You can find the full injury report here.
The Packers and Lions play each other at Ford Field on Thursday.

What was an eight-point game at the break ballooned to a much larger advantage for the Raiders, which outscored the Eagles 40-13 in the second half. The Raiders had three players reach double figures, including Vayda Sonnenberg's 18 points.
On Friday, Alanah Kaye led the Eagles with eight points in its 66-23 loss to tournament host Denmark.
Saturday ended up being a busy day for the Green Bay Packers after playing on Thanksgiving night.
The Packers signed LB Michael Barrett and G Marquis Hayes to the practice squad. They also released WR Malik Knowles from the practice squad in a corresponding move.
A contributor on last year's national championship team at Michigan, Barrett spent time on the practice squads of the Seahawks and Cleveland Browns this season before being signed by the Packers. Hayes, a second-year player out of Oklahoma, bounced between Carolina and Arizona this season before landing in Green Bay on Saturday.
The Green Bay Blizzard may have lost one player to the UFL this spring, but it has welcome four new players over the past week.
DL Rafiq Abdul-Wahid, DB Donyai Dixon, DL Miqueal Pillow-Smiley, and QB TJ Davis all signed with the Blizzard since November 22nd. Abdul-Wahid led the entire IFL in sacks last year as a part of the Blizzard's league-leading defense. You can learn more about the players below.
