Carol Haasch

The Lord called Home his faithful servant Carol Mae Haasch on April 26th, 2025. Carol was born May 23rd, 1934, to the late Clarence and Emily (Gigot) Baudhuin. She graduated from Algoma High School in 1952 and St. Agnes School of Nursing in 1955. Carol married the love of her life, Keith R. Haasch on August 9th, 1958. They made their home in Algoma and raised three very special sons, Lee, Guy, and Gary Haasch. Carol loved her nursing career. She was a registered nurse who served for 40+ years at the Algoma Hospital and Long-Term Care Center, where she finished her career as the Director of Nursing. First and foremost, she loved being a mother. She never wanted to miss a single activity for her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren whether it be a ball game, track meet, concert, school musical, recital, or an art show. Carol loved to sew. There wasn’t a pair of pants she couldn’t fix or shorten and she even made her granddaughters special dresses. Carol also loved to knit. Many of her projects were “one of a kind” sweaters for her children and grand-children. Carol was a 66-year member of the Rosary Society, many of you reading this likely have a rosary hand rolled by Carol! She and Keith enjoyed traveling, many ski trips, trips to Arizona, Hawaii and Mexico – always bringing back trinkets, jewels, and exotic pieces for the grandchildren. Carol and Keith were active members of the YMCA in Sturgeon Bay, never missing a chance to get their swimming laps in. And she spent many years as a Cub Scout leader, earning her the prestigious Trail Blazer Award. Carol is survived by her children Lee (Lisa) Haasch, Guy Haasch, Gary (Kathy) Haasch, grandchildren Katie Haasch, Tyler (Kirsten) Haasch, Erin (Andy) Mueller, Jenny Haasch, Trevor (Lexie) Haasch, Emily Haasch, Eric Haasch, and great-grandchildren Brooks Wagner, Junior James, Weston and Phoebe Haasch; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her brothers Jim and Tom (Jenny) Baudhuin, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Keith, and she was happily welcomed into his arms where she so very much longed to be. She was further preceded in death by her parents, mother and father-in-law Herbert and Hazel Haasch, brother and sister-in-law Clarence and Virginia Baudhuin, and sister-in-law Patricia Baudhuin, brother-in-law Richard Lohrey, niece Cindy Baudhuin and nephew Phillip Baudhuin. Family and friends may come together to celebrate the life of Carol on Friday, May 2, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Algoma. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 am with Fr. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Algoma Rescue Squad, the excellent staff at Bellin Home Health, Bellin Hospital Cardiac Ward, and Unity Hospice, and all the friends and family who offered support and prayers during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary’s Church Heating Fund. “Boys, when you think of me I’ll be dancing, skiing, or maybe swimming with Dad. Always remember how much we love you and are so very proud of you and your families. Until we are together again. Love, Mom & Dad”

Janet "Jan" Kalms

With profound sadness, we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Janet Rae Kalms, our loving and devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend to the many whose lives she graciously touched, on Sunday, April 27, 2025. She is survived by her loving husband, Steve Kalms; her 4 children, Kristin, Cheryl, Zachary, and his wife, Morgan, and Matthew, and his wife, Anissa; her 8 grandchildren, Lucas, Makalyin, Keira, Tarin, Gunnar, Sicily, Jimmy and Wylla. She is survived by 9 brothers and sisters and multiple nieces and nephews. She has been preceded in death by her parents and 2 siblings. Jan was born on May 1, 1961, in Prairie du Chein, WI to Ray and Betty Dearborn. She was then Born Again in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior 54 years ago on April 26th. She was saved through Romans 5:6 “When you were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.” On July 26th, 1986, she married her best friend and partner, her “Love”, Steve Richard Kalms. They were a beautiful expression of what true love really means and easily demonstrated to those around them their commitment and loyalty to their vows. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 “Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you.” She loved her family deeply, but first and foremost she loved Jesus. She never passed up an opportunity to share His love with others. She was a beautiful woman inside and out who devoted her life to loving her husband and her children unconditionally through better or worse, through sickness and health, until death she did part from us. Jan was an encourager, always believing the best in others, constantly in prayer, and strong in His Word. Jan absolutely loved to sing, her angelic voice could be heard throughout her home singing and humming along to a beautiful Christian hymn. However, that being said, it should be pointed out that her scream could end the life of any unsuspecting rodent with ease! While she disliked the farm work, especially unloading hay, she sure did love the Farmer. She was very content with taking care of the affairs of the home, and she did it brilliantly, with so much grace and always a smile, never a complaint. Her generous hospitality was most often expressed in a bountifully spread table. Her pies (especially the Rhubarb and Cherry) were like none other, and her praises will be sung for generations to come. She was very creative with sewing, crafting, and cake decorating. She took great pleasure in making floral arrangements that have added joy and beauty to many lives. Her heart was made after God’s own and it shined so brightly to those around her. She was always ready and willing to help whomever and more often than we can count she was the shoulder we shed many tears on. Every day she would pen personal notes and cards and send them off to simply put a smile and an encouraging word in someone’s heart. She was continually thinking of others, often times sacrificing more than we probably even could begin to fathom. While every day for her wasn’t always full of sunshine, she clung to Jesus even more tightly throughout all those storms and eventually she was able to find the rainbow that God promised. Jan lived every minute of each day filled with joy, love, forgiveness, hope, generosity, peace, patience, kindness, gratitude and grace with a thankful heart. So we will learn from her beautiful life and do as she did. We will keep on keeping on, just as she wished all of us would. Please join us on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, at Huehns Funeral Home, 1414 Michigan St, Sturgeon Bay, WI for the Memorial Service at 4:00 pm. A private family visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by public visitation for family and friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Following the service, a light luncheon will be served. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Meals on Wheels for Door County. Casperson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC in Sister Bay, Wisconsin is assisting the Kalms family. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Jan can be shared with her family through her tribute page at www.CaspersonFuneralHome.com.

Jeffery Luke DeWitt

Jeffery Luke DeWitt, a man of grit, humor, and immeasurable heart, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025 after a short battle with pneumonia, with his wife, Christine, by his side, also surrounded by those he loved most. Born in Door County on February 14, 1977, Jeffery carried with him a midwestern work ethic that knew no bounds. Whether it was the job at hand or the fight for his life, Jeff approached it all with the same relentless determination. Diagnosed with cancer in 2015, he refused to let it define or defeat him. Through years of treatment, Jeff showed up for life with unmatched perseverance, embodying the very definition of strength. That perseverance showed even as he tried to keep working at Bay Ship until his end. He was employed at Bay Ship for over 20 years, rising to Department Manager of the paint department. Jeff will be missed by his wife of 25 years, Christine DeWitt; children, Dakota (Samantha) Henschel, Amanda (Brett) Antholt, Ty (Mia) DeWitt, and Kelsey Fels and special Friend, Krissy Gray; grandchildren, Jaxon, Evelyn, Mason, Ember, Annette, Barrett, Kalvin, Arthur, Aaron, and Briar; parents-in-law, Clarence and Carol Leitner; siblings, Seraphin (Sherry) DeWitt and Faye (Jeff) Nedobeck; brother-in-law, Tim (Chari) Browning; special uncles and aunts; nephews, Joey Parrish, William Browning, Andrew Browning; Chad (Tammy) Westphalen and family, Roger (Tammy) Schmidt and family, Ken (Nancy) VanHueklon and family, Tina Schultz and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luke DeWitt and Cheryl (Joel) Stradel; and many other family members. There was rarely a weekend he wasn't out camping with his wife, children, best friends, and his beloved grandchildren. His countless adventures with his wife, including cherished trips to Florida that became treasured memories. But what truly made Jeff unforgettable was his sharp wit and signature sarcasm. His sense of humor spared no one - not even the doctors and nurses who walked beside him and his family during their long journey with cancer. His ability to crack a joke, even while hooked up to IVs or waiting on test results, brought laughter to the darkest rooms. Jeff was the kind of man who, even at the very end, made sure others were smiling through their tears. Jeffery leaves behind a legacy defined by love, laughter, and unshakable strength. He was a father, a grandfather, a friend, and a fighter - someone who never backed down from a challenge and never missed the chance to make someone laugh, even at his own expense. His presence was steady, his spirit unbreakable, and his sarcasm legendary. Though he's no longer with us, his memory lives on in every campfire story, every trapshooting echo, every sunset, and every well-timed joke that catches someone off guard - just the way he would've wanted it. Autumn Duan Stahl

Autumn Daun Stahl, age 57, of Luxemburg, WI, passed into God’s waiting arms on Monday, March 31, 2025, leaving behind a lifetime of family and friends who will miss her dearly. She was born on April 25, 1967, at Ripon Memorial Hospital, to Cherie Dorsey Anderson (John) and Paul Senner (Jeanne). She grew up in Ripon and Algoma, Wisconsin. As a child and young adult, she loved to sing and play the guitar and participated in a variety of academic and performance-based extracurricular activities. She delivered arguably one of her best acoustic performances at the young age of 10 years old alongside her cousin Tammy Munsey at the marriage of her mother and stepfather at Grace Lutheran Church in Ripon. She sang at several weddings and played an unforgettable Sally in “You’re a good boy, Charlie Brown.” She was a very good student. After graduating from Algoma High School, she went on to earn a dual degree in business and French at Ripon College. Inspired by her favorite professor, Dr. Linda M. Clemente, Autumn traveled abroad to Paris during her junior year. Her love for travel carried through into adulthood, taking her on trips throughout the U.S. and to destinations in Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, and more. She lived in a variety of cities throughout the Midwest until meeting her husband. One of the very best decisions she ever made was to marry Stephen Stahl in 2016 in front of family on a beautiful beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Together, the two built a life filled with love, shared adventures, and quiet moments, along with their beloved goldendoodle, Daisy Mae (Autumn LOVED middle names, including her own!). Autumn’s life was marked by a deep affection for her family, the quality time she sought with her mom and aunts, siblings, nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, and cousins, and her youthful appreciation of the simple things in life. She was a devout Packers fan, a frequent diner at El Serape, loved a good fish fry, and never wore jeans without a solid black platform heel. She enjoyed reality TV and had more love for the Home Shopping Network than anyone of her generation should. She never tired of a good homemade meatloaf or lasagna, especially if made by her late Aunt Toni. Autumn will be remembered for her kind heart, unquestionable care and concern for others, the joy she found in the mundane, and a laugh that lit up a room. Her loss leaves an enormous void for all who knew her, but her memory lives on in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched. Autumn is survived by her beloved husband, Steve; four-year-old goldendoodle, Daisy Mae; nieces and nephews, Madison Huseboe of Milwaukee; Maxwell Huseboe of Whitewater; Marcus Wautier of Brillion; and Parker and Owen Anderson of Hilbert; Sofia and Lucas Huebner of Appleton; mother, Cherie Anderson of Ripon; father, Paul Senner of Appleton, stepfather, John Anderson of Ripon; stepmother, Jeanne Senner of Appleton; sister, Jennifer Huseboe (Kent) of Ripon; brother, John Anderson (Janel) of Hilbert; sister, Melissa Anderson of Michigan; sister, Amber Huebner; brother, Bill Senner; in-laws, Kathy Stahl, Robert (Denise Davister) Stahl, Laurie (Joe) Enderby, Tom (Kelly Crossman) Stahl, Jennifer Stahl (Tony DellaCioppa), Rebecca Stahl (Quinton Farina), and Stephanie Stahl (Kyle Wyman). Nieces and nephews: Steve and Dana (Bloedorn) Enderby, Jessica (Mike) Woulf, Eric and Angela (Ullmer) Enderby, Troy and Stephanie (Berceau) Enderby, Will Stahl, Sage Stahl, Tyler Crossman, Alexis Mocco and Sierra Stahl. Autumn is further survived by many extended family members, including cousins, Pamela Weckwerth of Ripon; Kimberlee Mack (Dave) of Ripon; Christian Kohnke (Melissa) of Fond du Lac; Tom Hollenback (Kristen) of Lamartine; Dave Hollenback of Ripon; Amanda Munsey and Tammy Munsey (Terry) of St. Petersburg, FL; Nikki Grosz (Mark) of Tampa, FL; and Angela (Scott) Pecore of Greenville, WI; great nieces and great nephews, aunts and uncles, Terri (William) Drake of St. Petersburg, FL, Patti Worm of Ripon, and Steve Hollenback of Ripon; and many lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Vernon and Orline Dorsey, formerly of Ripon; and her paternal grandparents, Dorothy and William Senner, formerly of Milwaukee; her father in law and mother in law Lary and Michele (Umentum) Stahl, formerly of Luxemburg. A Celebration of Life will be held at McMahon Funeral Home on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 2:30-6:00 pm. A time of sharing and prayer will follow at 6:00 pm. Marilynn Hamlin Slappy

Marilynn Hamlin Slappy, 91, of the Town of Sevastopol, WI, fell asleep in the loving arms of her family at home, Monday morning, December 9, 2024. She was born August 16, 1933 in Taylor, AR, the daughter of Travis Eugene Hamlin, Sr. and Mattilee (Robinson) Hamlin. Marilynn attended Taylor High School. It was during her junior year in typing class that she met James Thomas Slappy. As Marilynn fondly recalled, they "sat on opposite sides of the walkway in class," and their "appreciation for each other grew over the next couple years." Marilynn and James were paired up to walk down the aisle for graduation with the Taylor High School class of 1951. Marilynn and James were united in marriage on April 16, 1952, after James completed Naval boot camp. They were married at her grandparents' (Louis and Elizabeth Hamlin's) home in Taylor. With James in the Navy, they eventually moved to communities throughout the United States including San Francisco, CA, Rhode Island, Louisiana, Florida, and Washington state. The family's last duty station was Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois. That is where Marilynn enrolled in secretarial courses at the College of Lake County in Illinois, earning her associates degree in 1981, while working and raising her family. In addition to caring for her family at home, she had been employed at various places over the years, but her primary employment was with Great Lakes Credit Union, beginning in 1981. Marilynn started part-time with member services, worked her way up, eventually working in loans, and then as Training Coordinator, Personnel Manager, Human Resources Manager, Vice President of Human Resources, and ultimately as Executive Vice President of Administration until her retirement in 1999. She belonged to the Credit Union Executives Society as well as the Navy League, HR Council, and FRA Auxiliary. Marilynn attended Hillcrest Baptist Church in North Chicago, IL. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Libertyville, IL. Marilynn was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She volunteered with the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, American Business Women's Association, and was active in Girl Scouts when her daughters were younger and also served as a team mom for her daughters' softball teams when they were younger and playing in the Great Lakes Softball League. While she and James were stationed in Great Lakes, IL, they visited friends in Sturgeon Bay, WI, and immediately appreciated the community as one of the nicest and most beautiful places they had ever visited. They eventually made the move from North Chicago, IL to Sturgeon Bay. They both enjoyed travel and visiting with friends, family and various hobbies. Marilynn was very strong in her faith and in recent times she joined the Faith Baptist Church in Cabot, AR where her nephew, Richard Hamlin, serves as pastor. She enjoyed the weekly services that were streamed, allowing her to take part from a distance. Marilynn and James were blessed with nearly 71 years of marriage. He died February 24, 2023. Marilynn's love will live on in the hearts of her three daughters, Donna Gayle King of Sturgeon Bay, Gerri Lee Slappy of Park City, IL, and Gina Lisa Slappy of the Town of Nasewaupee; other relatives; and friends. James Jay Ingwersen

James Jay Ingwersen, age 95 of Sister Bay, passed away peacefully at home early Sunday, March 30, 2025. He was born May 2, 1929 in Evanston, Illinois to parents Bertha Mae Gebo and Louis Henry Ingwersen; beloved siblings Barbara Lou and Robert Dean. James attended New Trier Township High School, graduating from Evanston High School, where he credits his art teacher for first encouraging him to pursue the arts. He studied at The American Academy of Art, Chicago, and apprenticed with renowned artist Earl Gross of Stevens-Gross Studios. After which, James was accepted to the prestigious Tree Studio Building and Annexes of Chicago and began a career doing commissioned portraits of esteemed academicians and circuit court judges. James and Phyllis Catherine Prybelick were married on Nov. 4, 1960 and in 1970 the couple purchased a property in Door County with a historic campus built by Pomeranian settlers featuring stove wood buildings dating to 1860. James and Phyllis spent the next several decades preserving the land and transforming the historic campus into the James J. Ingwersen Studio Gallery, where they hosted musical and artistic events for the public. For more than six decades, James spent his life behind an easel exploring a variety of genres including still life, Door County and Arizona landscapes, wildlife and pastoral scenes, live model compositions, historic figures and portraiture. James continued to take commissions and particularly enjoyed painting the likeness of children. Following his passion for land conservation, James became one of the original founders of the Door County Land Trust, established in 1986. James is also highly regarded as a Door County Legacy Artist, whose paintings, alongside friend Gerhard CF Miller, founded the Miller Art Museum’s permanent collection. Prior to his passing, James partnered with the Peninsula School of Art and generously donated the historic property to the school in order to steward his legacy in Door County, ensuring art and educational events for future generations. In keeping with James’s wishes, no funeral or celebration of life will be planned. Later this year, however, Peninsula School of Art will host a community celebration of the Ingwersen’s’ legacy - date and time to be announced. Memorials can be made in James J.
