Patricia Schwartz

Patricia Ann (Miller) Schwartz, 90, of Sturgeon Bay passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at St. Mary’s hospital.

She was born March 3, 1935, in West Allis, WI, the fourth child of Walter and Alvina (Bendickson) Miller. She moved to Door County with her parents at a young age and graduated from Algoma High school.

She received her teaching degree from UW Stevens Point. She started her teaching career in a one room school house. She taught for over 40 years, the last 34 at Southern Door Elementary School. Patricia enjoyed staying active and engaged in the things she loved the most. She was a member of the Coachman Camping Club and cherished time spent traveling and fishing. Patricia found joy in quieter moments as well, spending hours working on puzzles, quilting, painting and tending to her garden. She loved continuing to learn through Learning in Retirement classes and never missed an opportunity to play cards or games with family and friends. An avid reader, she kept many books for all her grandchildren and took them often to the library and delighted in sharing stories with them. Her Norwegian heritage was passed on to her family as lefsa making was a holiday tradition. Everyone looked forward to her cookies and cupcakes as they were the best. Patricia was a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church serving on the Altar Guild committee for many years.

Patricia is survived by her four children, Daniel (Suzanne) Schwartz, James (Carla) Schwartz, Mark (Jessica) Schwartz, Mary (Keith) Volkmann; grandchildren, Diana (Brandon), Andrew (Julie), Briana (Stephen), Bradley (CJ), Ariel (Matt), Cody, Tyler, Casey, Dawson, Quintyn, Madilyn (Samuel) and Aleah; great grandchildren, Kane, Collette, Jonah, Robin, Adalynn, Kennedy, Linden, and Aleina. Michael L. Malvitz

Michael L. Malvitz, 78, Luxemburg, was born on June 2, 1947, to June (Felix) and Roy Malvitz Sr. He passed away on December 28, 2025, at the age of 78.

In 1968, Mike married Linda Burczyk, and together they had one daughter Tammy. In 1990 Mike met his destiny, Jean Kollross. With Jean came three cherished children, Stacy, Todd and Scott – Mike’s hunting and fishing buddy, and over time eight beloved grandchildren.

There is a saying that perfectly describes Mike, “Born to hunt, born to fish, forced to work.” For a time, Mike even found a way to work while fishing, serving as a Lake Michigan charter boat captain. When he was “forced to work,” Mike held a variety of jobs, including as a truck driver for Potts Transport. While working at Potts, he earned the Million Miles Award for driving a million miles without an accident.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Todd) Grady; his loving partner, Jean Kollross, Jean’s children, Todd (Laura) Kollross, Scott (Cami) Kollross and Stacy (Tim) Retterath. Grandchildren Alyssa Kollross (fiancé Jordan), Clay Kollross, Caden Kollross, Carli Kollross, Tyler Kollross, Dawson Kollross, Nick Retterath and Nate Retterath. Brothers Steve Malvitz and Jeremy (Stacey) Malvitz; sisters Roxanne (Jeff) Clark, Cheryl Renard, Laurie Pagenkopf and Sarah Cogar and sister-in-law Candy Malvitz; along with many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his bothers Darryl Malvitz and Roy Malvitz II; and sister-in-law Lori Malvitz.

Mike will be remembered for the peace he found in the woods and on the water, the joy of a good day hunting and fishing, and the fun times shared with family and friends over a Kessler and Coke.

A celebration of life to honor Mike will be held at a later date. McMahon Funeral Home, Luxemburg, is assisting the family.

Keith Burgess

Keith Burgess, 91, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Dec. 26, 2025.

He was born in Kalamazoo, MI on April 15, 1934, where he spent his early years with his brother and sister. The family later moved to Milwaukee, WI where Keith met Shirley Wilson at church. “You know we started dating when I was 17.” Shirley would say while patting Keith’s hand. Keith would then respond, “She liked me for my looks.”

Keith graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Science and from Cardinal Stritch College with a Master of Arts. His passion for education and commitment to community led to 38 years of teaching in the Milwaukee Public Schools. Keith and Shirley married on June 21, 1958, in Milwaukee and raised their two children in Whitefish Bay.

Keith will forever be remembered for his caring and playful heart. He loved to prank neighbors on North Bay Ridge Avenue by planting trees in driveways, gathering the whole street’s old Christmas Trees in a single yard, and hosting the best block parties. Keith and Shirley were fundamental in expanding the Milwaukee K-9 training club. Keith was also club president for many years and graduated hundreds of dogs in obedience and agility.

Door County turned into a second home, where Keith brought their vision to life by building a cabin in Ellison Bay - “just for them.” In retirement, Keith and Shirley made Door County their permanent home and moved to Sturgeon Bay in April of 2003. He took any opportunity to serve people, their dogs, and his family. He spent hours packing lunches for children and serving Thanksgiving dinner through the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church. Keith and Shirley spent 67 (and a half!) years together teaching, camping, boating, traveling across the states, and building - as long as they could bring their dogs. Keith crafted Shirley’s designs to life using his skills in woodworking, welding, and adding a boatload of humor along the way, until his death on December 26, 2025. Love you most.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to consider a donation to the local weekend food for children program “Backpack Buddies” in Keith’s memory. For details, visit: https://sturgeonbayumc.org/march-mission-backpack-buddies/ He was preceded in death by James Burgess (father), Hazel Warner (mother), and Robert Burgess (brother). Survived by his wife Shirley, Patricia Chacon (sister), David Burgess (son), Linda Braun (daughter), grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Fyrn Jilot

Fyrn M. Jilot, 99, of Sturgeon Bay was united with the Lord on December 25, 2025 while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on August 2, 1926 to Albert and Nervin Guelette. On February 3, 1944 she was united in marriage to James Jilot at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Misiere.

Fyrn was known for her work ethic, her creative talents, and her ability to fix things. She began her early married life helping on her parents’ farm. Several years later, Fyrn and Jim purchased a grocery store in Rosiere which they operated for 16 years. Later, she held numerous jobs in manufacturing, cherry processing, and co-owning an upholstery business. In 1969 Jim and Fyrn purchased a cherry and apple orchard in Sturgeon Bay and eventually raised strawberries. They built their home there where Mom lived right up to the end.

While living in Sturgeon Bay, Fyrn also found time to do waitressing at Andre’s Restaurant for many years where she made many friends. Fyrn’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and making rosaries. Over the years she estimated that she made over 1,500 rosaries which she donated to the Missions, local churches, the Chapel, and other charities. As recently as this past fall she could be found sitting at her dining room table, drilling Job’s tears beads with her Dremel drill press and making her goal of one rosary a day.

When it came to repairing or altering anything made of fabric, Fyrn could usually figure out a way to make it look like new again. Fyrn was also known for her meticulously kept home, her wonderful cooking and most importantly, her deep passion for her family. Her homemade butterscotch pies and homemade bread were always a big hit with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fyrn’s faith meant everything to her. Fyrn and Jim were members of Corpus Christi Catholic Church for over 56 years. They took great pride and comfort in participating in Sunday and Holy Day Eucharistic celebrations as long as they could. When Fyrn could no longer be present at church physically, she was sure to watch the weekly service broadcast on television. When she wasn’t making a rosary, she was praying one. If someone was ill or going through a tough time, she was sure to light a votive candle and pray for them until she was certain that all was well. She typically would pray several rosaries a day, many times with a family member.

Fyrn is survived by her three children, John (Linda) Jilot of Allouez, Barbara Jilot of Fond du Lac, and Jerry (Diane) Jilot of DePere. She is further survived by eight grandchildren, Todd Jilot, Troy (Sheila) Jilot, Jeff (Trish) Jilot, Chris (Nicole) Slavik, Jeremy (Chrissy) Slavik, Mardee (Jeff) Blattner, Brett Jilot and Tessa (Jeremy Jenkins) Jilot. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren and her sister, Sally Wagner, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Fyrn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 72 years, James, her parents, sisters Grayce Baudhuin, Lucille Vandertie, and Joanne Guelette (infant); brother, Gary Guelette; brothers-in-law Lawrence Baudhuin, Norman Vandertie, Bill Wagner, and sister-in-law Karen Guelette; also, great granddaughter Serena Jilot and niece Jami DeClark. Fyrn was also preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary and Frank Jilot, sisters-in law, Mary Alice Oswell, Ann Jilot, Marge Jilot, Lucy Jilot, Alice Jilot and brothers-in-law, Jerry Oswell, Richard Jilot, Lloyd Jilot, Frank Jilot Jr., and Norman Jilot.

Family and friends may visit Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay on Thursday, January 8th from 4:00 to 6:30 PM, a prayer service is scheduled for 6:30 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 9th at 11:00 AM at Corpus Christi Church in Sturgeon Bay.

Donations may be made in memory of Fyrn to Paul’s Pantry, 1513 Leo Frigo Way, Green Bay, WI 54302 (paulspantry.org), Sunshine Resources of Door County, 55 W. Yew St., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 (sunshineresources.org), or Unity Hospice, 2366 Oak Ridge Circle, DePere, WI 54115 (unityhospice.org).

Our family would like to thank the staff at Unity Hospice for their compassionate care of Mom during her final days. Also, we are extremely grateful to all of the neighbors, family, friends, Meals on Wheels, and clergy whose frequent phone calls, flowers and visits were so meaningful to her. She often spoke about how those visits helped to keep her going and provided extra meaning to her days. The list is much too long to mention, but you know who you are and please know that you were so very meaningful to Mom and we will forever remember your kindness.

Marjorie "Marg" Jane Thomas Bjarnarson

Marjorie “Marg” Jane Thomas Bjarnarson, 73, passed away on December 21, 2025 with her sons Chase and Hunter by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Spirited, energetic, and optimistic, Marg was born June 30, 1952, on Washington Island, Wisconsin, to William “Bill” Jared Thomas and Beverly Jane Koyen Thomas. Raised in a military family, her childhood unfolded across many places as her family followed assignments, including Sturgeon Bay, WI; Port Huron, MI; Cape May, NJ; East Meadow on Long Island, NY; and Roberts, IL.

These early years instilled in her a lifelong adaptability, curiosity, and deep appreciation for the world around her. After Marg’s father retired from the US Coast Guard, her family settled in Roberts, IL, where she graduated from Roberts-Thawville High School in 1970. Following the death of her grandfather, Roland A. Koyen, in February 1971, Marg returned to Washington Island to stay with her grandmother, Florence Koyen. She remained on the island after Florence’s passing later that spring, beginning a chapter that would shape the rest of her life—barefoot and fancy-free.

On December 30, 1988, Marg married Lee Charles Bjarnarson. Together, they built a life rooted in family and community. Marg became a pillar of Washington Island working in restaurants, managing the Washington Town Mutual Insurance Company, teaching Sunday School, supporting local arts through the Island Players, and raising her family with dedication and care.

Marg was admired for her creativity and eye for design; her home and recently opened gift shop were a testament to her attention to detail and ability to create beauty and warmth. A loving and fiercely devoted mother, Marg’s greatest pride was her two sons, Chase and Hunter. She shared a special bond with each of them through the passions they enjoyed together, creating connection, joy, and countless treasured hours side by side. Marg developed a lasting love for Washington Island and her family’s multi-generational connection to it, as well as for nature, her Labrador retrievers, and her beloved deer.

She was a protector with a tender heart. Not only did Marg become friends with every deer that came across the family properties, she gave them each a name.

Marg is survived by her husband, Lee Bjarnarson; her sons, Chase and Hunter; her older sister, Jean Thomas Fox (Steve); her younger brother, Bill Thomas Jr. (Wendy); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Beverly Thomas.

Michael grew up in Tenafly, N.J., and Winnetka, IL and graduated from New Trier High School in 1966. Mike was renowned as a talented and tenacious runner who won the Illinois State Cross Country Championship in his senior year. He tallied up so many prestigious track and cross-country accolades that several universities tried to lure him with full-ride scholarships. However, it was the University of Notre Dame that won his heart, his athleticism & work ethic. Graduating from Notre Dame was the educational springboard for Mike that launched his career pursuits. Mike later earned a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration and specialized in setting up and managing large hospital telecommunications systems, eventually shifting his focus to the federal government and international corporations.

At the same time, Mike enjoyed coaching and working with high school athletes, while completing a Master’s Degree in High School Education. In addition to coaching, Mike was an accomplished marathoner and triathlete for over 40 years. More recently he could often be seen swimming laps at the Door County YMCA, as well as the brisk waters of Lake Michigan right outside his door. During 40-plus years of coaching, Michael motivated and inspired countless young runners not only to do their best, but to support each other. From the slowest to the fastest, he emphasized what he called “the joy of running.” This was the same attitude and dedication he brought to his whole life, highlighted by kindness, humility and gratitude.

Sheila Haggerty Turner

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Sheila Haggerty Turner, age 86, on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in Sturgeon Bay, WI. Sheila was born on December 23, 1938, in Milwaukee, WI. She was the eldest daughter of Patrick Eugene Haggerty and Beatrice Ethel (Menne) Haggerty. She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy and later Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX where she received a degree in Spanish. In the early 1960s, Sheila moved to Sturgeon Bay, WI with her first husband, Martin "Mike" Cyrus Kelsey, Jr. to her beloved old, quarried stone house on the bay. Other than during the coldest winter periods, she loved residing in the wooded area filled with birdsong and a yard facing Green Bay for her growing family. Sheila owned and operated businesses in downtown Sturgeon Bay including Sheila's Corner House Shops and Great Lakes Yacht Services (GLYS). She gave generously of her time and resources, serving for years on the Sturgeon Bay School Board, and volunteering at a variety of local organizations including the Door County Memorial Hospital, the Sturgeon Bay school system, Girl Scouts, and her church. Sheila was a lifelong practicing Roman Catholic and an active member of St. Joseph Parish in Sturgeon Bay. As co-owner of Palmer Johnson, a business originally purchased by her father Pat Haggerty, Sheila continued a family tradition in racing and pleasure sailing boats with much time spent at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club. She toured Green Bay and waters of the Great Lakes region, often towing her children on fondly remembered trips on her boat, The Screamin' Sheila. Sheila met and later married her love, the late Davis "Scotty" Richard Turner in 1975. They continued to reside in the Wisconsin home, enjoying the vegetables and flowers of Scotty's gardening passion, but together they expanded their territory and community of friends with a second home in Captiva, FL. Sheila and Scotty were frequently seen walking their dogs on the beautiful Gulf shores, especially enjoying the spectacular sunsets and winter warmth. While Sheila loved to travel, she was truly happiest at home where she enjoyed quiet time solving daily puzzles with a never-ending mug of tea by her side. The kitchen with its large family table was often the heart of the home for endless meals. She prepared fancy dinner party feasts using recipes from her big cookbook collection and comfort meals like southern fried chicken and cheese grits or the often-demanded chili and corn chip casserole served while watching her team of teams, the Green Bay Packers. She welcomed, not always happily, a menagerie of pets from her first rescue cat, Punkins, to her final canine companion and support dog, a sweet Shiba Inu named Min. Family was everything. Sheila greatly valued being an independent woman, but when asked about her ambitions, she would always answer that she wanted to be a mother and that she wanted to raise her children to be responsible individuals allowed to pursue their own passions. She set wide boundaries for exploration and development while fiercely protecting her brood. She, our SSMDWWN, was the best mother in the world. She watched her crew in band concerts, chaperoned camping trips, cheered at their sporting events, sewed costumes, hosted slumber parties, arranged weddings, and held her newborn grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was Mom, Nana, and closest friend all in one. Sheila was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Martin "Mike" Kelsey, Jr.; husband, Davis "Scotty" Turner; son, Martin "Mike" (Jeannine) Kelsey III; sisters, Rosemary Haggerty and Kathleen Moosey, and brother-in-law, Dennis Parravano; and other relatives. She will be missed by her children, Beatrice (Lawrence) Stein of Windermere, FL, Barbara (Mark) McIntire of Sartell, MN, Margaret (Michael Teich) Kelsey of Whitefish Bay, WI, Brian (Philip Berndt) Kelsey of Fish Creek, WI, and Kathryn Turner of Los Angeles, CA; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, siblings, Patrick (Mary) Haggerty of Dallas, TX, Michael (Jean) Haggerty of Austin, TX, and Teresa Parravano of Dallas, TX; and other relatives. Sheila will be laid to rest beside her husband, Scotty, in the columbarium at Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol, WI with a private committal for family. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date-to be announced. Memorials in Sheila's honor may be directed to the Door County Medical Center Foundation (P.O. Box 230, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235; www.dcmedical.org/giving-and-volunteering/foundation). "We would like to thank Shannon Vertz for her loving support over the years." Kirk J Schleicher

Kirk J Schleicher, of Baileys Harbor, passed away unexpectedly on November 27, 2025 at the age of 35. He left behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication to his family and community.

Kirk was born August 7, 1990 in Green Bay to Bill and Jean (Giesseman) Schleicher. Kirk attended Zion Lutheran School through eighth grade and was a proud graduate of Sevastopol High School. He married Kayla Anschutz on January 20, 2018 and together they had two beautiful children, Jordy and Rory.

At the time of his death, Kirk was in his final year of his Plumbing Apprenticeship at NWTC and was excited to continue to move toward becoming a Master Plumber for Anschutz Plumbing & Heating. He took pride in doing the highest quality work and loved talking about what he was doing, even to those, like Kayla, who had no clue what he was talking about most of the time. A devoted husband and father, Kirk was the embodiment of unconditional love and support. Kirk worked tirelessly to take care of his family, only complaining occasionally about “Mount Dishmore” or after stepping on a particularly sharp toy. He celebrated even the smallest of accomplishments as his children grew. He was a hands-on father who could be found swimming in Kangaroo Lake with the family after a hot workday or crawling on the floor giving countless horsey rides. He instilled his love of sports, particularly baseball, into both kids, and taught them the value of hard work. Every household chore was a family affair, no matter how much longer the task would take.

Kirk and Kayla also had a shared passion for music. In the early years, they would be found enjoying karaoke nights at the Pen Pub after finishing their shifts at PC Junction. Kirk was found up front with the microphone in his hand belting “Wagon Wheel” or “Friends in Low Places” while Kayla watched from the end of the bar. As he transitioned to fatherhood, his stage moved from the Pub to the kitchen where the family could be seen singing and dancing to favorites like “Take Me Home, Country Roads”. Kirk had many other passions during his life. His favorite times of year included hunting season, baseball season, football season, and summer lake days. He shared these passions with his extended family, his in-laws, and many friends, creating many memories throughout his life on the baseball field playing with and against his cousins, hunting and fishing, and hanging out anywhere and everywhere.

At any family gathering you could hear his infectious laugh as he retold a story for the hundredth time or quoted his favorite movies. He never even minded when he got crushed by the competition at family game night. He built additional families in every community he was a part of; his classmates at Zion and Sevastopol, teammates from the many baseball teams over the years, the members of the Peninsula Gun Club, any place he ever worked, and just about every watering hole in between. Kirk was the kind of person that greeted everyone he encountered with a warm smile or a wave. One introduction was all it took for him to create a memory or story that he would recount over and over to all that would listen.

Kirk had a profound impact in his small corner of the world. Deeply rooted in his faith, he lived his life as a testament to his spiritual beliefs. His compassion, kindness, and moral strength were an inspiration to all who knew him.

Kirk is survived by his loving wife, Kayla and their two beautiful children, Jordan (Jordy, age 5) and Aurora (Rory, age 3); his parents, Bill and Jean Schleicher; his sisters, Kendell (Jack) Straehler, and Kelsey (Trent) Krauel; his nephew, George; nieces, Lily, Hadley, Lainey, Kassie, and Kallie; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and relatives. Kirk will also be cherished in memory by his in-laws, with whom he was extremely close, his father and mother-in-law, Tom and Laura Anschutz; brother-in-law, Ian (Maggie) Anschutz; sister-in-law, Brynn (Kollin) Orthober; nephews, Kolton, Finley, and Carver; and niece, Celyse; as well as the entire extended family and so many in the Door County community.

Kayla and the rest of the family wish to express sincere gratitude to those that attended to Kirk during his final hours including the emergency responders and staff at Door County Medical Center. They also extend their heartfelt thanks to the Gibraltar School family and the entire Door County community who have shown up in every way imaginable for them.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. Visitation will continue on Monday, December 8, 2025 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Scott Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted with Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Kirk may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.HuehnsFuneralHome.com.

Sandra "Sandy" Sawyer

Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

Beloved mother, friend, sister, and self-proclaimed weirdo, Sandra (Sandy) Sawyer, 72, of Gills Rock, Wisconsin, passed away on November 27, 2025. Never giving up but deciding it was time, she took her final breaths peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.

Born November 19, 1953, in Peoria, IL to Albert and Donna Brandt, Sandy was the second of her parents’ five children. Older brother Dave and younger siblings Steve, Linda, and Jerry were raised in the suburbs of Washington D.C.

When her parents retired to Door County, WI in the mid 1970’s, Sandy enjoyed moving around before settling in Norfolk, VA to start her family. After the birth of her four children, Sandy and family joined her parents in Wisconsin. Sandy loved living in Door County, in a home she carefully cultivated and surrounded by her beautiful gardens. Her favorite days were spent gardening; growing things to feed the folks she loved. And she loved no one more than her four children; holding unlimited grace, care, and kindness for them, but never hesitating to crush them in a game of ping pong or poker.

Although she said it often, weirdo probably isn’t the first word you’d use to describe Sandy. Perhaps she liked the title because of her odd love of watching soccer (despite being a tried-and-true Packer’s fan) but that had a lot to do with the pride and joy she took in seeing her grandson excel on the field. More likely she was referencing the profound camaraderie she shared with her granddaughter, Gracie, another self-styled weirdo.

Sandy took great pride in telling folks that she worked in the Butik of Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant. For over thirty years, Sandy shared strength, humor, and generosity with everyone she encountered in “the place with the goats on the roof.” She treasured working in a place that connected her to her Scandinavian ancestry and that gave her a second Swedish family; all the people she loved to work with.

A forever hippie, Sandy was an avid concert goer, former VW camper driver, and a lovely, long-haired flower child. When listening to the radio she was eager to share that she’d seen this band or those singers in concert. Olivia Newton John, James Taylor, Pink Floyd, you bet she saw them live. But the one band she never got to see in person remained her favorite: The Beatles. It’s her children’s greatest hope that she’s now driving her old camper across the universe, picking up lost friends and loved ones on her way to a concert in the stars— where maybe George and John will sit in for a song or two.

Those who remain include her two brothers Steve (John) Brandt and Jerry Brandt; sister Linda (Larry) Frea; two sisters-in-law Kari Brandt and Gloria Fischer; four children Anna (Josh) Olson, Mary (Shawn) Sawyer, John (Journey) Sawyer, David (Brandon & Wendy) Sawyer; two grandchildren Gracie Bongle and Daniel Olson; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her devoted dog, Abbey. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Donna, her favorite Aunt Pat, and her big brother Dave.

A Celebration of Life for Sandy Sawyer will be held at a later date. Forbes Funeral Home is serving the family. Donations in Sandy’s honor can be given to the Go Bo Foundation or Door Cancer.

Raised in Marinette, where he met his wife Rita of 73 years, Wally served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Under the G.I. Bill, Wally graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a degree in business administration. His new job with Sears Roebuck and Co. took Wally and his young family to the Chicago area, first settling in Park Forest, then purchasing their first home in Elk Grove Village near O'Hare Field.

One morning, while rushing to catch an early flight, Wally was waved through a side airport gate. Next thing the family saw were flashing lights and an intercom ordering Wally off the active runway. Wally's Sears career as a merchandise buyer took the family to Berkeley Heights, NJ, where he worked out of the New York City office for four years. During that time, Wally took the family on many memorable road trips to Washington, D.C., to experience cherry blossom season, to the Seaside Heights, NJ ocean boardwalk, and to New York's Radio City Music Hall to see the famous Rockettes and Nutcracker ballet.

Wally and Rita missed the Midwest and returned in 1970, settling in Chicago suburb La Grange. When Sears Tower was being built, Wally took his sons to see the impressive excavation site of what upon completion in 1973 became the world's tallest building. On another visit to the completed tower, Wally and sons tested an early video phone system.

As a young man, Wally played baseball as a catcher and subsequently took his sons to White Sox games at old Comiskey Park. An annual highlight for Wally was driving the family every summer to Ellison Bay, where the kids climbed trees on the farm's rock fence and the family feasted on whitefish boils at the Viking Restaurant and lake perch at Sister Bay Bowl, while Wally enjoyed his beer or Manhattans. In 1988, Wally and Rita made the move to Ellison Bay, where Wally kept active and made many friends through the Ellison Bay Men’s Club, helping to organize the festival parade and grill brats at Olde Ellison Bay Days. They were socially active in the local Kiwanis chapter, the Sons of Norway and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. Wally found solace and life meaning at his beloved Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, where he worshipped, read Scripture and helped with events. Wally enjoyed telling Scandinavian jokes at their social hour, and his hearty laughter would light up many a room.

A personal, heartfelt shout-out goes to Jeff, Percy and Dorothea at Going Garbage where Wally was employed for 19 very enjoyable years. He was proud to be the yard attendant promoting recycling, directing people to their proper procedures and generally getting to know to everyone in town. He also enjoyed working for several seasons as host at Gills Rock Maritime Museum, where he delighted visitors with his enthusiasm and informative stories about Door County.

As lifelong Packers fans, Wally and Rita were thrilled when daughter Karen gifted them with tickets to the January 5, 2013 playoff game against the arch-rival Vikings. On a frigid day, with just a day's notice, they bundled up and excitedly drove from Ellison Bay to Green Bay. While exploring Lambeau Field before the game, a friendly staffer presented Wally and Rita an official certificate commemorating their first-ever Packers game.

Wally and Rita enjoyed many trips to the Pacific Northwest, where they visited family while exploring Seattle, the Olympic Peninsula, Portland, OR, the nearby Columbia River Gorge, and the magnificent Oregon Coast, where they were thrilled to stay at the Heceta Head Lighthouse bed and breakfast. Also, Chicago, Atlanta and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Weborg; his brother, Albert (Jean) of Gills Rock; and beloved daughter, Karen ( Alpharetta, GA). And their many beloved cats, dogs, barn cats, and raccoons, too numerous to name. Survivors include wife, Rita; sons, Jim (Sister Bay), John (Chicago), and Phil (Portland, OR); grandchildren, Megan (Matt), and Erin; great grandchildren, Ryan and Ashton; son-in-law, Kevin (all near Atlanta); and nephews and nieces, David (deceased), Sandy, Steven, Jerry, Linda and their spouses.

Last but not least, thank you from our family to friends, neighbors, church members, medical professionals and kind individuals for your countless hours of helping our parents through the challenges of advancing age.

Donations can be made in Wally’s name to Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Casperson Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Sister Bay is assisting the family. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Wally may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.CaspersonFuneralHome.com.
