Jeffrey Rosenfeld

Jeffrey E. Rosenfeld, 83, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, December 19, 2024. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on June 21, 1941, son of Sidney S. Rosenfeld and Pauline Frank Rosenfeld. Nearly all his family - grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins - lived in either Madison or Milwaukee. Jeff graduated from Madison West High School in 1959, attended UW Madison, then transferred to UCLA where he received a BA in Mathematics in 1963. His first job in his teens was a delivery boy for Frank Brothers Grocery Store, of which his maternal grandfather was a co-founder. Jeff's career after college was eclectic, beginning in the early days of coding computer software, employed at aerospace centers in and around Los Angeles and at Universal Studios also in LA, then moving into upper management at various computer companies, including General Electric's timeshare division in Rockville, Maryland, and Control Data Corporation in Oak Brook, Illinois. CDC was co-founded by Seymour Cray, known as the "father of super-computers," and Jeff was always proud that he had learned from the best. Jeff met his wife JoAnne when he left California for Virginia in 1971 to begin work at Computing and Software in Alexandria. JoAnne had just recently taken a job there. They would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on April 4, 2025. Jeff transferred to Naperville, Illinois, in 1981 with Control Data and in 1987 he left the company and, following the family tradition, called upon his father's and grandfathers' entrepreneurship as he and JoAnne embarked upon a different journey, opening a collectible artist bear retail store. Grin & Bear It became one of the premier collectible bear stores in the nation, so they added a wholesale business, importing handmade life-size stuffed animals from a notable French plush company, Aux Nations. In 2004, Jeff and JoAnne sold the businesses, but Jeff with his outgoing personality was not ready to retire so he sold used cars, a job he was made for. After that, still not ready to slow down, he drove a bus for Naperville schools. The kids loved him and called him Taz because he had a Tasmanian devil plush animal as his co-pilot. Eventually Jeff and JoAnne retired to Door County, where they had vacationed since 1982. They lived in Egg Harbor on the water for 19 years and moved to Sturgeon Bay in 2022. They volunteered with the Door County Art League and the Door County Sail and Power Squadron for many years. Jeff was JoAnne's support as she served as vice-president, then president of the Art League, and he was head of education for the Power Squadron. They also took ballroom dancing lessons, which JoAnne says they enjoyed, but Jeff would probably beg to differ. Jeff loved sports, growing up in Madison as a Saint Louis Cardinals fan and becoming a Chicago Cubs fan when he moved to Illinois. One of his favorite childhood memories was his opportunity to be a peanut vendor at the Milwaukee Braves stadium when he was old enough to drive from Madison to Milwaukee for the games. Being from Wisconsin, Jeff was always a Green Bay Packer fan, but he sure liked living in Naperville when the Monsters of the Midway, the '85 Bears, won the Super Bowl. Of course, living in Door County for the Packers 2011 Super Bowl victory was equally exciting. And then there was the electrifying Chicago Bull's dynasty in the '90s. Jeff instilled his love for sports in his grandson MJ (his initials also stand for Michael Jordan!) as he spent lots of time teaching MJ to throw and catch. MJ says he will really miss those special days with Grampa. Survivors include Jeff's wife JoAnne, son Jeremy Rosenfeld, daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Matthew Jones, best grandson ever MJ, all of Sturgeon Bay; brother Stuart Rosenfeld and sister-in-law Mary Eldridge of Chapel Hill, NC; sister-in-law Cathy Nolan of Sacramento, CA; brother-in-law W. Mark Dendy of Sturgeon Bay; special cousins JoAnne Salin of Madison, WI, and Marcia Friedman of Henderson, NV; nephews Barry Rosenfeld, wife Cara, of NYC and Mitchell Rosenfeld, wife Lisa, of Richmond, VA; nieces Rebecca Draznin, husband Lee, of Burke, VA, and Elizabeth Anne Janke, husband Scott, of Sacramento, CA. Also surviving are two great-nephews, six great-nieces, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Sidney in 1972, mother Pauline in 1995, and sister Linda in 1998. Jeff also leaves behind four dogs, Pit Bull Jordy, Boston Terrier Butch, French Bulldog Kalev, and Cocker Spaniel Dovid. Rescue has always been an important aspect of Jeff's life, especially for the past 20 years adopting dogs that most people would not take. For example, Jordy has only three legs and Butch has only one eye. Therefore, fourteen of Jeff's dogs will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge, including Socky, his first Cocker Spaniel, and Pluto and Pogo, his Boston Terrier twins. After death, his daughter Jennifer said, "Life isn't fair . . . but it's worth it," which was so true about Jeff, first because "life isn't fair" was his standard response when she and Jeremy complained about anything. Jennifer added to his mantra because his life was definitely worth it. He was passionate about whatever he was doing, whether it was taking Jeremy to his baseball games or Jennifer to soccer, making snowmen with the kids - mostly for him because he loved snow, taking the dogs to the beach, or shopping, his favorite pastime. Jeff talked to just about everyone he saw, in line at the grocery store or at the library, and at the art and music festivals he and JoAnne enjoyed. He was always quick to make a joke, usually a corny one! There will be no funeral service. Instead, a celebration of Jeff's life will be in Door County around the date of what would have been his 84th birthday, June 21, 2025. Forbes Funeral Home is assisting the family. On-line condolences may be offered at forbesfuneralhome.com Jeff's family would appreciate donations in his memory made to either the Special Olympics in honor of his deceased sister Linda Rosenfeld, who had Down Syndrome, or to Bullies-N-Friends, an animal rescue in New Freedom, Wisconsin.

Also, while at Luther College she served as a music Librarian and reader of children’s stories at KWLC radio. It was at Luther College that Jendean met her future husband, Dan, to whom she was married in August of 1967. In the fall of 1967, Jendean and Dan moved to St. Paul, Minnesota where she began her teaching career in Elementary Music Education in the Columbia Heights Public Schools. In time, she taught music in New Richmond, Merrill, Sturgeon Bay and Algoma Public Schools. While Dan served in three congregations, Jendean was heavily involved with the music programs both as organist and choir director, retiring from active service from Ephraim Moravian Church. In addition, she gave dozens of private piano lessons. Together Jendean and Dan have three children, Andrew, Angela (Chad) Olson-Luberger and Aaron (Sarah). They have six grandchildren, Anika, Audrey, Aria, Anders, Elsa and Stanley. For those who loved him, the loss feels unbearable and though he is no longer with us, Alex’s memory remains close. You’ll feel him in the most unexpected of moments; like when you hear a drum solo that shakes you to your core, the rumbling roar of a racecar, when your hands get a little sweaty and you can’t help but laugh, when you do that mirror double-take to make sure your hair is just right or when you brighten a stranger’s day with just a simple smile; that will be Alex with you.

In his too-short life, Alex taught us what it means to truly live: to love unconditionally, to face hardship with resilience and to create lasting connections that transcend time. He was, and always will be, an example of the very best humanity has to offer, and his legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Please honor him by attending his funeral service and luncheon to follow held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 245 S 2nd Street, Oakfield, Wisconsin on Thursday, December 19th, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11:00am, service at 2:00 pm with Pastor Matthew Schwartz officiating the service, and the luncheon will follow. It was Alex’s wish that he would be celebrated by those that loved him and that they would join in the visitation, service and luncheon; in true Alex fashion, all are truly welcome.

Alex’s family sends special thanks for the superb care and dedication he received from the Neuro-Oncology Departments at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, UW Health University Hospital in Madison and at the end of his life, the compassionate care he received from SSM Hospice in Fond du Lac.

I will miss my brother endlessly, but it has been my life’s greatest honor to be his sister, his fiercest advocate, and to share each chapter of his courageous journey. Though his race had ended, and the beat has quieted here on earth, there’s a victory lap and encore in heaven and he’s got the drum solo.

Many memorable pontoon trips on the lake will never be forgotten as he always liked to narrate the history of the area and comment about the changes on the lake properties we passed by. He was a very generous man and gave selflessly to family without expectations of return, no matter the request or situation. Patricia Jean McCain

Patricia Jean McCain, age 70 of Fish Creek, passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, due to complications from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Patty was born on June 24, 1954, in Detroit, MI, to the late Harry and Jean (McCollough) Greenshields. Patty attended Western Michigan University where she met her future husband, Douglas McCain. Before they would marry, however, Patty would pursue her passion for helping people in need, particularly women in abusive relationships. After college she joined a national service program called VISTA, where she worked in a women's shelter in Wichita, Kansas, and later worked for Domestic Abuse Prevention (DAP) in Kalamazoo, Michigan helping to care for abused women. It took a little time, but Patty and Doug finally reunited and were wed at his home in Birmingham, MI in March of 1979. They soon set off to Door County, settling in Ellison Bay where Doug had decided to start a beekeeping business. Ironically, Patty was afraid of bees, and their relationship was tested early in marriage. Love prevailed though, and Patty made an uneasy peace with the little creatures, even after getting stung mid-hug by an errant bee that had hitchhiked on Doug's shoulder. After a number of years raising their children, Casey and Emily, and a career change by Doug from beekeeping to aviation, Patty finally found her true calling which combined her love of children with her desire to help those in need. She earned her master's degree in counseling at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1994, and then happily served as the Gibraltar school district K through 8th grade guidance counselor for nearly twenty years, forging friendships along the way that would last her lifetime. Patty was a very active person and loved being outdoors. She enjoyed running, hiking, swimming, and especially dancing. She also loved to travel, and if stuck indoors, was fond of reading and playing word games. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Patty is survived by her husband Douglas; children Casey (Lauren) McCain and Emily (Ryan) Fjelstad; grandchildren Colin and Abigail McCain, and Nora, Graham, and Finley Fjelstad; and brother Bruce Greenshields. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brothers, Tommy and Bob. A memorial service for Patty will be held at 1:00 on January 17, 2025, at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church (11836 WI-42, Ellison Bay WI 54210) with Rev. James Honig officiating. Visitation will be held on January 17, 2025, from 11:00 until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Habitat for Humanity or the Wisconsin Humane Society. Expressions of sympathy and memories of Patty may be shared with her family through her tribute page at www.caspersonfuneralhome.com.

David J. Mastalir

David J. Mastalir, 65, of Kewaunee, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 8, 2024. He was born January 13, 1959, to Catherine and the late Edward Mastalir. Dave was born and raised in Kewaunee. He attended school at Holy Rosary and Kewaunee High School. Dave’s work ethic kept him busy, and he was in high demand to help cut lawns, bail hay, and anything that required a strong spirit, and no fear of getting the job done. This can-do-will-do attitude brought him into the plumbing business as an apprentice at Ed Szydelo Plumbing. While living in Green Bay, Dave met Margo. They dated for 10 years and were married on October 4, 1996. Together, they enjoyed rock n’ roll concerts, water skiing, and sharing stories and drinks with friends. They have two children: Benjamin, born in October of 1997 and Matthew, born in August 1999. As a family they were active in local soccer leagues, where Dave could be seen cheering on the sidelines at every game. They also enjoyed family vacations to amusement parks, water parks, and nearby lakes, as well as road trips and rafting. Dave and family moved back to Kewaunee in 1998, where Dave opened his own plumbing business, Mastalir Plumbing. Through his 20 plus years of owning/operating this plumbing business, Dave met what feels like just about every single person in town. Dave’s work always was driven by the motto passed on to him by his father “Do a job well enough to put your name on it” and his own motto “Plumb for Fun!” His first priority was always to his customers. Dave would answer calls on nights, holidays, and weekends and be ready to come fix the issue right away. Many businesses and homes will carry a reminder of Dave with his name and number written on their water heaters, softeners, walls, and pipes. Outside of work, Dave had a true passion for fishing. You would find him out in any weather as long as the fish were biting. Dave’s family and friends enjoyed his hobby as well, as it always provided a bountiful dinner. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding with Margo, playing cards with family and friends, and spending time with his boys. His competitive energy, ability to razz every person he met, and form a lasting bond with any person made him a staple of the Kewaunee Community for his entire life. Dave is survived by Margo, his wife of 28 years; his two children, Benjamin (Abby Joski) Mastalir, Matthew (Marisa Skajewski) Mastalir; six brothers, John Mastalir, Paul (Helen) Mastalir, Steve Mastalir, Dan (Jan Lindberg) Mastalir, Peter (Dennis Bartley) Mastalir, Andrew (Betty Jo) Mastalir; two sisters, Mary Spzara, Ann (Rick Linssen) Jahnke; brothers-in-law Greg Lipovac, Bruce Lipovac; sister-in-law Kathy (Bruce) Schmitz; nephews and nieces; his mother, Catherine Mastalir; and mother-in-law Agatha Lipovac. Lance LeCloux

Lance Nicholas LeCloux came into this world on March 18, 1997, in Door County, WI. We were blessed with him until his sudden passing on December 4, 2024. He was born to his mother, Debra Adams (Tim Voeks), and his father and biggest fan, Nick LeCloux (Tanya Vogel). His sister, Hannah LeCloux was just a year old when he was born and they were automatically inseparable. Their bond only grew stronger over the years, sharing every life experience together. He was born and raised in Door County, attending school in Sevastopol and later Southern Door. He was always on the go, whether it be shooting trap, hunting, fishing, being the life of a cookout, sharing his humor and impeccably timed movie quotes with family, friends, and friends that soon became family. Not to mention his entertaining holiday wardrobe! It'll be a tradition we will cherish and aspire to top in the years to come. Cracking jokes and lightning peoples’ spirits came so naturally to Lance. As did the love he had for Keri Grimsley for the last 8 years. They shared so many adventures, attended countless concerts and music festivals and of course, laughter. Lance is survived by his mother, father, sister, paternal grandmother Alison LeCloux; uncle "Buck" LeCloux; aunt Sarah LeCloux (Eric Kieffer); his maternal uncle Nick Adams. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lee and Sharon Adams who were instrumental in his life and upbringing; as well as his paternal grandfather Ed LeCloux. A very special thank you to Lance's best friend and brother from another mother, Justin Pierzchalski and wife, Heather for all their support during this time. Lance was so honored to be godfather to his son, Jamison, and to later be his best man...even if writing that speech was agonizing! The two were one and the same and having Justin's presence is like having Lance right here with us always. When they say it takes a village to raise a child, they weren't kidding. Lance had a huge village of family friends, most with kids as well, that were all raised up together as a community. Countless people also considered Lance a son, a brother and nephew. A special thank you to Mitch Gerdman, Matt Melville and Erin Connelly for their immediate call to action upon hearing the devastating news on that fateful day. Our deepest appreciation to all first responders, police and firefighters for their tireless efforts. In his short 27 years, Lance packed multiple lifetimes worth of laughter and memories. He touched so many people’s lives that his stories will live on forever through all that knew him. Join us in celebrating the life of the man, the myth, the legend...Lance LeCloux. Together, as his village, we will gather as he would have done by sharing our favorite stories, shed a few tears and most importantly, share our laughter. A Time of Sharing will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday DEC. 20, 2024, at the Forbes Funeral Home. A visitation is scheduled from 3:00 to 7:00 pm that evening at the funeral home.

Janet Woehrmann Evers

Janet Woehrmann Evers, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and formerly of Harbor Springs, Michigan, passed away at home surrounded by family in the early hours of Thanksgiving, November 28th, 2024. It was Jan’s desire to write her own life summary to share when she passed, so according to her wishes, it follows here: Well, I turned 83, and people will say, “she lived a good, long life.” And I did. I was born in Poland, Ohio on November 7, 1941. I attended North Lima Schools for all twelve years, going on to Baldwin Wallace University for college and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in music education. There, I also met my future husband, Tom Woehrmann. After teaching instrumental music for several years in the Detroit area, my kids Matt (now 53) and Jill (now 49) were born in Royal Oak, Michigan, where we lived until 1976. At that point, we decided to get out of the city and moved the family to a small town in northern Michigan, Harbor Springs, where we made our home for 24 years. During those years, in addition to being a devoted mom to my kids and wife to my husband as he built and ran his piano tuning business, I founded a clothing consignment store, A Penny Saved, in 1981 with two dear friends. I’m proud to say it still lives on as a thriving business in Petoskey, Michigan today. Building on my musical background, I also taught a number of piano students over time, at one point growing my private lesson roster to over 50 students. We were members of the Petoskey United Methodist Church, where I sang in the choir. Tom and I frequently participated in local musical productions, and I was happy to be a founding member of the Northern Michigan Chorale. Tom, sadly, died of cancer in 1995, and five years later, I moved to Door County, Wisconsin. I lived in the Sturgeon Bay area for 24 years. There, I made many wonderful friends who continued to surround me with love and support my entire life. I enjoyed the outdoors, the arts, and the small, tight-knit community that is so special. I loved to work out and take classes at our amazing YMCA, gave my time as a volunteer coordinator for Loaves and Fishes for many years, and served at the Door County Food Pantry for a few more. It was rewarding to give back to a community that had been so welcoming to me by helping people in need. My parents Robert and Helen Thornton, my brother Alan Thornton, and my husband Tom Woehrmann passed before me. I have left behind my daughter Jill Woehrmann (Adam Cohn) and two grandchildren, Levon (16) and Josie (14); and my son Matt Woehrmann (Jill Stanley) and two step-grandchildren Jackson and Mae (both 13); my sister-in-law Arlene Thornton and her kids, niece Kira Sullivan and nephew Eric Thornton and their families; and my close friend and neighbor Gene Jacobs, with whom I was blessed to have a special friendship for the past several years. My family will be planning a celebration of my life in the new year in Sturgeon Bay. In the meantime, if you would like to help leave a legacy in a way that would be truly meaningful to me, I have asked my family to match donations up to $10,000 to the Door County Food Pantry where I served, making it possible for us to provide $20,000 in support for folks in need in my community. Please donate at www.lakeshorecap.org/donate/ and please make sure to designate the “Jan Woehrmann Evers Memory Fund.” Or if you prefer to mail a check, you can send it to Lakeshore CAP, P.O. Box 2315, Manitowoc, WI 54221. Again, don’t forget to designate the fund name so we can match your contribution. Forbes Funeral Home is assisting the family.
