Thomas Stedman Pinney, Jr.

Thomas Stedman Pinney Jr., 93 years old, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Monday, March 23, 2026.

He was born July 9, 1932, in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late Thomas and Joyce (Otis) Pinney Sr. Tom graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1950 and continued his education at U.W. Madison, receiving his BS in Landscape Design/Business with honors in 1954. He obtained his Master's Degree in Ornamental Horticulture, with honors at Ohio State University in 1955, where he served as a teaching assistant for the world-famous Horticulture Professor Dr. L.C. Chadwick, with whom he became lifelong friends. He continued his education at Syracuse University in the Nursery Management Conference. He was a member of various Fraternities, Alpha Zeta, Phi Kappa Phi, Gamma Sigma Delta, Phi Alpha XI, and Sigma XI Tom was in ROTC at Madison and wanted to serve his country even after marching his squad into a wall. Tom's eyesight would prevent him from military service.

All who knew Tom recognized his intelligence. He excelled at memorizing anything, which aided his quest for knowledge and self-improvement. On June 15, 1954, he married Myra Kruse at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church. She preceded him in death on August 7, 2024, after 70 years of marriage. They were blessed with three children, Majel, Cheryl, and Geoff.

Tom owned and operated Evergreen Nursery Co, Inc, a four-generation firm that originated in 1864. The first Post Office in Door County was at the nursery location. Tom bought into the family business in 1960 and ran it with his father and Clarence Pinney following his college education. Gene Peotter (Tom's sister, 'Pooky's husband) became a partner with Tom until his death in 1974. At this time, Tom ran the nursery alone and incorporated it. He would then give stock to his brother, George. son, Geoff, and employee, Greg Meissner. Eventually he would buy them out and brought in Ron Amos, who became the owner upon Tom's retirement on August 31, 2001. In 2024 Ron sold Evergreen Nursery Co., Inc. to Kevin Gilbert.

Tom loved getting to know people. Locally, his play for dinner was to have the wait staff bring him whatever they wanted for his dinner. But it had to be healthy, they could not tell him what it was going to be, or they would lose their tip. You must have fun with it, and I will never criticize anything you bring me.

His favorite hobbies included photography, Arboretum, and Nursery work with plants. His commitment to his church and his Masonic Order. Jogging, walking, computers, helping others and always seek knowledge. According to him, these endeavors were only possible through the support of his dear wife, Myra. Some of the notable landscape endeavors was the original landscaping of Huehns Funeral Home, formerly Davis Mortuary where he would plant and display his white bark birch trees (which were resistant to birch bore, and Evergreen Nursery had 5 Patents and Copyrights for BBB resistant plants), he did the sod at the Ephriam Church where it rained so hard it slid down the hill to the road, and he laid the sod for Al Johnson's grass roof with the goats in Sister Bay.

His community service spanned many years including Past President of Door County Chamber of Commerce, Sturgeon Bay Rotary Club, Sturgeon Bay Utility Commission, and a 16-gallon blood bank donor. At his Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church, he served and led the Christian Education Commission for the District and Province, the Video Committee there, the Stewardship Committee at church, and Mt. Morris Camps and Conference Center in 2008. He was a member and past Master of the Henry S. Baird Lodge #174, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Green Bay, York Rite of NEW, Beja Shrine member, and Nicolet Conclave of the Red Cross of Constantine. Tom was a very active member of the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church, and its Board of Elders, District Executive Board, Delegate to various Moravian Synods, Provincial Budget and Finance Committee, and taught Sunday School for many years.

Surviving family includes his daughter, Cheryl Pinney-Henrickson of Mishicot, Geoff (Sonja) Pinney of Green Bay; granddaughter, Nicole (Kevin) DeGuelle (Stark); two great-grandchildren, Maxwell Thomas DeGuelle and Isabelle Majel DeGuelle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Henrickson; brother, George Pinney; sisters, Joyce "Pooky" Peotter, Pat Remy; and brother-in-law, Gene Remy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. April 17, 2026, at Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Matthew R. Knapp, Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Bayside Cemetery. Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 9:30 until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Following the visitation on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., there will be services including Order of Eastern Star, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Salt and Rose (33rd Degree), and the Masonic Memorial service. Gerald M. Dorner

Gerald M. Dorner “Jerry” aka: Cheyenne, Green Bay, was called home by God on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the age of 77. He died peacefully in his sleep at his beloved cabin. He was the son of George J. and Julia (Ledvina) Dorner, born on December 12, 1948, in Green Bay. He was the third of ten children. He grew up in Luxemburg, graduated from Luxemburg High School in 1967 and was a proud Bluejay. He had many jobs over his long life and was an incredibly hardworking man. From starting with helping on the family farm as a child, to working at Green Bay Packaging, to bartending at The Bar East for 25 years, and to a long career in construction with Martell Co., from where he retired at the young age of 50. He was very active in the Laborer’s Local Union 330 even after retirement. Jerry also had over 20 years in the US Army Reserves where he retired in the early 1990s. He was the mess hall cook which shaped him to become the best potato peeler and chef at home. Every Friday there was a home cooked fish fry and his old fashions were the most delicious around. He will best be known for his gift of gab including debating anyone on any topic, his love for being outdoors and walking several miles a day, his ability to talk to any and every person he met on those walks, his delicious chicken dumpling soup and booyah (which he made for The Bar and sold to people by the pail), his financial finesse and advice, and his resourcefulness. He was known to reuse almost everything he owned. In 2005 his dream of having a cabin in the woods came to fruition when he built his place in Lake Tomahawk. He was involved in every aspect of its construction, from clearing the trees from the land, helping pour the foundation, and even building the garage. It was truly his refuge and second home, and he spent about half of his time up there. This gave him the time and place to fish, which was one of his most passionate hobbies. He fished almost every day when he was up north, and his family was provided with the fruits of his labor- bags and bags of frozen fish. In recent years, he discovered a new passion which was making maple syrup. He and Linda would toil from dawn until dusk tapping trees, collecting the sap, and boiling it down so they could bottle that sweet, amber colored goodness. He loved giving it to his family. On a Sunday evening, August 12, 1990, he met the love of his life, Linda Hyde. That chance meeting led to a long and love-filled 36-year relationship. He welcomed Linda’s daughter Christine into his life and his heart and was a supportive dad throughout her life. It’s often been said by all of Jerry’s siblings that Linda was the biggest blessing in his life and was the best thing that ever happened to him. Jerry would have agreed. Survivors include his life partner Linda; his daughter Christine; his siblings Mary Reckelberg, Sarah “Sally” (Carl) Riemer, Allan (Lynn) Dorner, Claire (Edward) Augustian, Julie (John) Renier, Jane (Mark) Hermans, Denise (Edward) Kinjerski, Lori (Ken) Willems and Lynn (Gary) Holly. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Julia, brother-in-law Adolph Reckelberg, and other aunts and uncles. Friends may call 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at St. Mary Church, 1412 Main Street, Luxemburg. Closing prayer service at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Bob Miller. Born on June 12, 1957 in Sturgeon Bay, WI, Mark was a lifelong learner with an eclectic career path. He initially attended college for Mortuary Science, before spending many years showcasing his mechanical skills at C&W Auto. In a testament to his drive, he later returned to school to become an X-ray technician, serving patients at Aurora Health Care in Sturgeon Bay until his retirement in 2020.

While 2019 brought the challenge of a cancer diagnosis, Mark faced it with his trademark resilience, going into remission in 2022. Outside of work, Mark was most at home in his garage, often with the music of KISS playing in the background. He was a master tinkerer who could find a use for almost anything, and nowhere was more evident than in his legendary Halloween display. Known to the community as "Rankin Manor," he spent countless hours "bringing to life" new ghouls and creatures to delight and spook the neighborhood.

With all this, the thing he loved the most was being with family. He would learn to play songs on his guitar just so the grandkids could sing along with him on camping trips and he never missed a sporting event or activity the grandkids were in.

Mark never met a stranger; he could strike up a conversation with anyone and had a supernatural ability to find the perfect movie quote or song lyric for any situation. If you spent five minutes with him, you were guaranteed a laugh.

Mark is survived by his devoted spouse, his high school sweetheart, Kathy Rankin; his children, Jesse (Ann) Rankin and Chelsea (Bob) Bittorf; his siblings, Pat (Vicki) Rankin, Cindy Lesperance, Tanya Olsen, Mike (Mikki) Rankin; his mother-in-law, Beatrice Bellin; his four grandchildren, Kane, Layla, Olivia, and Ava; and many more loved relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wally and Georgia Rankin; his father-in-law, Gene Bellin; and his beloved grandchildren, Emma, and Violet.

Friends may call Friday, March 20, 2026 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home. All friends and family are invited to a celebration of Mark's life that will continue Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Institute Saloon from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

In accordance with Mark's wishes, cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Mark's honor to Door CANcer, Inc. (www.doorcancer.com), reflecting his strength in his battle against cancer and his love for his community.

"You want the best, you got the best."
