Judge Moody R. Tidwell, III

Judge Moody R. Tidwell, III of Sturgeon Bay, WI died Thursday, April 2, 2026 of natural causes.

He was the loving husband to his wife of 55 years, father and grandfather. Moody was born February 15, 1939 in Kansas City, MO. Moody lived in Oklahoma, Virginia, Japan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. He graduated from Fairborn, Ohio High School in 1957 and Ohio Wesleyan University and where he was active in athletics and student government. He graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.

After service in the U.S. Coast Guard, he attended American University School of Law where he graduated with a Juris Doctor of Laws, then George Washington University where he was awarded a Master of Laws degree in 1974.

In his long legal career Moody was the youngest Solicitor in the U.S. Department of the Interior where he was responsible for an eleven-billion-dollar program of some of the major government construction projects at the time including the largest hydro-electro power plant ever built at Grand Coulee Dam, a massive desalting project in Saudi Arabia, and the St. Louis Arch. He was awarded the Secretarial Gold Medal for Excellence in 1981. As a close personal friend and confidant of Secretary James G. Watt, he also was Political and Policy Counsel to the Secretary.

Moody also taught law and edited several law journals. He was legal director of the Mine Safety and Health Administration. He was licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and the Supreme Court of the U.S. He also served as Corporate Secretary to KECO, Inc. in Kentucky.

In 1983 Judge Tidwell was named by President Reagan to sit on the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, one of the oldest courts of the country. Judge Tidwell's Judicial Appointment was confirmed by the Senate on March 13, 1983 and he became a prodigious adjudicator of western water right disputes, Indian land claims, and 5th Amendment land seizures by the government. It was in the latter area that Judge Tidwell had his greatest impact. He ruled that when the federal government utilized private property, even for a short while, the landowner must be reimbursed. His opinion, upheld on appeal by the Supreme Court, forced federal agencies to change the way they seize private property. Another of his opinions was adopted by the Department of Justice as its guide for fraud litigation. His published opinions fill a five-foot bookshelf. Judge Tidwell went into senior status in 2002.

In 1993 Moody created a non-profit foundation to support his efforts to offer conflict resolution at senior political levels in the Republic of South Africa immediately after the first free elections in that country. He created a network of senior political, business, legal, and scholastic affiliates in South Africa to whom he could turn for advice and support. Many of those individuals benefited from his conflict resolution efforts. The program was a success; President Mandela, at one point instructed the Ministers of his government, if asked, to cooperate with Judge Tidwell. Former president and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, FW de Klerk, asked him to draft the land reform provisions of the new constitution and, after leaving office asked Moody to join with him to teach the people of sub-Saharan Africa how to create and live in a democracy. In such role Moody served on the Board of Directors of the F.W. de Klerk Foundation. He visited South Africa 27 times over the following years to continue his services and meet with many of the friends he made during his efforts on behalf of that nation.

Moody lived in Sturgeon Bay, WI. He was preceded in death by his wife Serena, the love of his life, and their son Gregory. He is survived by his son Jeremy and his wife Terri, his daughter-in-law Sylvia who Moody always described as the best thing to happen to this family and his two wonderful grandchildren, Nicholas and Bianca, all of Sacramento, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, Major General Moody R. Tidwell, Jr. and mother, Dorothy.

Moody was a great and good man who leaves a wonderful legacy for his children and grandchildren. He had boundless curiosity and was a recognized philatelist who enjoyed his award-winning collections and exhibits well into his later years. By his very nature he was a man of warmth and charisma. He bought grace and diligence to all of his life's assignments and rendered distinguished service in everything he ever did; as a sailor, lawyer, foundation executive, federal judge, and most importantly as a devoted husband. He made friends wherever he went. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many. He will be greatly missed by his family and multitude of friends he made throughout his life.

It is with sadness we say goodbye to Moody, but with great joy we celebrate his life.

A celebration of his life will be held at Huehns Funeral Home (1414 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay WI 54235) on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m. Moody will be interred in South Carolina with his wife Rena.

Mary B. LeBrun

Mary Beatrice (Hutchison) LeBrun, 90, of Brussels, died Monday, April 20 after a short illness with family at her side.

Mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend – Mary will forever be remembered for her devotion to her family, her sharp wit and keen ability to find humor in every moment of every day, as well as her superpower: To make each person in her presence feel as if they were the most special person in her life.

Mary was born Sept. 20, 1935 in New London, WI, the daughter of Bernice (O’Brien) and Alton Hutchison. The fourth of nine children, Mary grew up on the family farm and graduated from New London High School. During high school and immediately after, she worked as a nursing assistant at New London Hospital. She then studied for and received a certificate in cosmetology before briefly working as a stylist in Green Bay.

She married Raphael (Ray) LeBrun on Aug. 24, 1957, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London. They started their family living in a Quonset hut in married student housing while Ray studied vocational education at Stout State College in Menomonie.

They settled in Door County in 1961, where they raised their seven children in a beautiful spot on the bay that has been and continues to be ground zero for large family gatherings. Mary worked for many years in the 1980s and ’90s as manager of the All-Canada Shows, traveling to major cities throughout the Midwest. She especially enjoyed traveling to Canada to meet with key event exhibitors. Earlier, she coordinated adult enrichment classes for the University of Wisconsin Extension, served on the Southern Door School Board, volunteered as president of the local American Cancer Society and organized a Girl Scout troop in Southern Door.

Mary had a strong faith in God and was a member of St. Louis Catholic Parish in Dyckesville, as well as St. Francis Catholic Church in Brussels and St. Mary of the Snows, Namur.

Mary and Ray enjoyed traveling to England, Ireland and Hawaii as well as visits to family throughout the U.S. One particularly memorable trip was with her sisters to Trois-Rivières, Quebec, the birthplace of their paternal grandmother Lucinda “Sadie” Bechard. She also enjoyed day trips to northern Door County with her sisters, daughters, daughters-in-law and friends. Mary loved flowers and enjoyed tending her beds of roses, lilies and perennials.

She was an avid reader, sometimes reading two or three novels per week, and was a longtime member of a neighborhood book club she organized called Women Who Walk on Water. She knew the rules to countless card games and loved to play with family and friends. Mary found humor in everyday life and loved to write poetry and stories based on real-life incidents. When Ray volunteered with the Knights of Columbus in Green Bay and sold tickets to the annual Packers Bishop’s Charities game, she submitted a humorous piece in a contest about why she enjoyed attending Packers games (in high heels and pearl necklace) and won a 1960s World Championship football signed by the Green Bay Packers.

Often, when a community or family event needed organizing, Mary took charge, typically also took the microphone and had everyone in stitches. Every year, family and friends delighted in receiving her annual Christmas letter, which she wrote for more than 60 years.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, side kick, straight man to her humor and the love of her life, Ray, who died in 2022. In recent years she dearly missed Ray but continued to spend time at home enjoying her children, grandchildren and many friends, often in large and boisterous gatherings. Since her health declined in the past two years she relished precious one-on-one time with her adult children, who kept a calendar and took turns staying with her at her home. In the last weeks of her life in the hospital and at hospice, she kept the doctors and nurses on their toes with her quick wit, pausing to take a serious moment only to tell someone how much she loved them.

She is survived by seven children and their spouses: John and Kathy (Leege) LeBrun, Eau Claire; Margaret LeBrun and David Allen, Sturgeon Bay; D'Ann (LeBrun) and Peter Jackson, Sturgeon Bay; Robert and Jackie (Devos) LeBrun, Green Bay; David and Becky (Dorsher) LeBrun, Sturgeon Bay; Darrin and Mary (Meyer) LeBrun, Wausau; and Jaymi LeBrun and Daniel Scollan, St. Paul, Minn. She is survived by 13 grandchildren and their partners: Katie LeBrun, Joseph LeBrun (Adam Bronstad), Nathaniel LeBrun (Madison Fry), Raphael Allen and Michaela Moy, Samuel and Amy (Maniola) Allen, Callie (LeBrun) and Chris Kolarik, Riese LeBrun (Julianna Schneider), Veronica LeBrun, Bryce LeBrun and Braedyn Bosilovatz, Jonathan LeBrun, Anna LeBrun (Connor Darrow); Matthew and Kailey (Blatz) LeBrun, and Sean LeBrun. She is also survived by five great grandchildren: Oliver Kolarik, Cecilia Kolarik, Carey Bosilovitz LeBrun, Raphael Bosilovitz LeBrun and James LeBrun. Also, “international” grandchildren Fouad AlKhouri and Nicole AlKhouri. She is also survived by siblings: Tom Hutchison, Dr. Margaret Hutchison, Bill and Darlene (Harvey) Hutchison, Judy (Hutchison) and Bob Fischer, Nancy (Hutchison) Schlafer, and David and Kathy (Kelley) Hutchison. In addition, she is survived by in-laws: Dorothy (LeBrun) Euclide, Eunice (LeBrun) Pozza, Marilyn (LeBrun) Gillis, Don LeBrun and Jan Schneider, Mary (LeBrun) Gandt and Ned Benedict, Gloria (LeBrun) Robertson, Roger LeBrun and Diana Hayes, Joann (LeBrun) and Steve Madson, and Samantha Keenan. “Aunt Mary” is also survived by 69 nieces and nephews and many more great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Roberta (Hutchison) Prunty, Betty (Hutchison) Balthazar; and several in-laws: Sister Doris Jean LeBrun, Ann (Makowski) LeBrun, Linda (Kooyman) LeBrun, Joe Pozza, Jerry Gandt, Jim Keenan, Jim Prunty, Frank Schlafer, Marian (Rulseh) Hutchison, Norman Balthazar, Tom Tennesson, Jim Euclide and Larry Gillis. Also preceding her in death were three nieces: Carla Robertson, Rebecca (Madson) Leach and Laurie (LaMarche) Carlton.

Mary was very proud of each of her children and grandchildren and loved them all deeply. They will treasure the memory of her annual Christmas socks, singing birthday calls and funny texts.

A visitation will be held from Saturday, April 25, 9 to 11 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, New London, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Most Precious Blood Cemetery in New London, followed by a luncheon at Bean City Bar & Grill, New London.

Grace Elizabeth Lindner

Grace Elizabeth Lindner, 77, of the Town of Sevastopol, was called Home to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, March 17, 2026, at Ascension Sacred Heart Bay Hospital in Panama City, FL.

Grace was born in Vignes, in the Town of Clay Banks, to Lawrence Alexander Mackey and Myrtle Ann (Moore) Mackey. She spent her childhood in that close-knit community, attending a one-room schoolhouse and growing in faith at Tanum Lutheran Church. Those early years shaped the kindness, resilience, and strong values she carried throughout her life. Grace was proud to be a part of the first freshman class at the new Southern Door High School in 1963 and graduated with the class of 1966. She later continued her education, studying business administration at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for one year.

On November 30, 1968, Grace married Ronald Jacobson in Sturgeon Bay. Together, they shared more than 20 years of marriage and were blessed with three children: Matthew, Dirk and Sara. Grace embraced motherhood wholeheartedly, creating a home filled with care, warmth, and steady support. During those years, she was also an active member of the Jaycettes in Sturgeon Bay, where she formed many friendships that would last a lifetime.

Grace was never afraid of hard work and took pride in everything she did. While raising her family, she worked as a cashier at Pamida in Sturgeon Bay for 10 years. Many also remember her friendly face at Andre's Restaurant on the west side of Sturgeon Bay, where she worked part-time as a waitress for nearly a decade. She had a natural way with people. Her pleasant personality, genuine kindness, and attentive service made her a favorite among regular customers.

Her longest and most meaningful professional chapter was with Door County Memorial Hospital in Sturgeon Bay. Starting as a nursing assistant in 1982, Grace's dedication and strong work ethic led her to a role in patient registration, where she eventually became supervisor. She remained there until her retirement in 2012 from Door County Medical Center (formerly DCMH), leaving behind not just a career, but many valued friendships and a legacy of care.

Grace found love again and married Daniel Richard Lindner on October 8, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. Together, they enjoyed traveling and making memories, especially on trips to Germany and Austria, Cancun, and adventures out west-experiences that brought her great joy in her later years.

Grace had a special way of making everyday life feel meaningful. She was a wonderful cook, lovingly known as the "queen of leftovers," and her tater tot casserole will always be remembered as a family favorite. She was a founding member of a local book club, where she shared her love of reading and friendship. She also enjoyed crafting and knitting, often creating thoughtful pieces for her family and home. In more recent years, she found joy in diamond art, tending her vegetable garden, and making jam from her homegrown grapes-simple pleasures that reflected her creative spirit and love of sharing with others.

Grace's love and presence will live on in the hearts of her husband, Dan; her three children, Matthew (Beth) Jacobson of Sturgeon Bay, Sara (Mark Fischer) Jacobson of Minneapolis, MN, and Dirk Jacobson of Sturgeon Bay; and her beloved grandchildren, Kendra, Jamie, Rachael, and Neleah. She is further survived by siblings-in-law, Paula Rogall of Hales Corners, Jo Anne (David) Flynn of New Berlin, James (Betty) Lindner of Greenfield, Michael (Barbara) Lindner of West Allis, and Joan Lindner of Wauwatosa; along with many nieces, nephews; other relatives; and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Nye and Kathy (John) Nelson; brother-in-law, Kenneth Lindner; and other loved ones.

James Hamilton Walwark Jr.

JAMES HAMILTON WALWARK JR. September 15, 1933 – April 1, 2026

Jim Walwark, a resident of Oak Park, Illinois for over fifty years, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, in Norridge Illinois, with his daughter, Alison, by his side.

He was born at home in Edwardsville, Illinois to James Hamilton Walwark Sr. and Gladys Anna Mae Miller Walwark. Jim was raised in Belleville, Illinois and graduated in 1951 from Belleville Township High School where he was in the Little Theater Group and a member of the National Thespian Society.

That fall Jim entered Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He was a member of the Southern Players, Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, The Arnold Air Society and was the 1953-54 Junior Class President. He remained with SIU’s AFROTC for the full four years and was named Distinguished AFROTC Graduate. Jim received his B.S. in English and Education, 1955, and a Masters in English, 1956. Jim entered the United States Air Force as 2nd Lt. Navigator in September 1956, taking training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio with assignments at Ellington AFB, Houston, Mather AFB, Sacramento and Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. He retired from active-duty January 15, 1959, and by the end of the month he had begun his first semester teaching English at Oak Park-River Forest High School in Oak Park, Illinois.

Simultaneously he was in the AF Reserves and was honorably discharged as Captain in January 1968. In 1967 Jim helped create and administer the Alternative XP Program at OPRFHS - an experimental effort in open education, which advocated and implemented a closer personal relationship between teacher and student. Jim’s students in the XP Program considered him to be “a teacher who has an obvious interest in us as individuals.” During his tenure at OPRFHS, Jim was actively engaged in additional course work: small group interaction, etymology, humanities, and learning disabilities. In 1983 he utilized a one-semester sabbatical to travel the U.S. and Europe to investigate local educational resources. He was a part of the first Adult Evening Program as well as the original Evening School Diploma Program. For many of his earliest years at OPRFHS he taught Summer School. In 1985, Jim received the Outstanding Teacher Award from The University of Chicago. His students had cited him for "possessing an undying motivation and determination to inspire students to achieve, and to convince them that “every experience is worth writing about.” Jim’s students admired him for “his calm and humorous approach, facing insurmountable odds with a smile and a little chuckle, determination and patience” and for “the dedication, tolerance and care” he had for his students.

After his retirement from OPRFHS in 1992, Jim took his writing theories to adult communities by starting the Scribbles Group, encouraging his new student demographic to let hidden talents emerge by writing of experiences in a casual, free-flowing manner. His love of teaching, his desire to work with everyone who approached him for help in experiencing the skill and thrill of writing, and his respect for and love of reading history’s notable authors, spilled over for many years into another leisure time pursuit: that of being a docent at the Ernest Hemingway Birthplace Museum in Oak Park.

Jim and Polly joined Unity Temple twenty years ago and were for many years, active and engaged members. Jim served as a Pastoral Associate, then the name for the team that provided a listening presence to those in need. “His warmth and compassion were visibly evident, and his inviting and welcoming manner was a gift to all those around him.” Jim will be forever missed by all those who knew his gusto and his hearty laughter.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Polly Andrews Walwark; his children from his first marriage to Annette Baldwin: Alison Walwark and Bruce Walwark; grandchildren Louisa Kwasigroch (Nick), David Walwark Jr. (Marija Zimkute), James Walwark, Maxwell Noto (Caitlin Sciackitano) Elliot Walwark (Karrigan McKinnon), and Claire Walwark; great-grandchildren Louise & Vivian Kwasigroch and Ignas Walwark. He is predeceased by his son David James Walwark Sr. [d.2017] (Louise Gruenberg) and his brother Dale Miller Walwark [d.2024] (Penny Walwark).

A memorial service to honor the life of Jim Walwark will be held Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m. at the Unity Temple Universal Unitarian Church, 875 Lake Street, Oak Park, Illinois. This service will be live-streamed and recorded for viewing on Unity Temple Unitarian Universalist Congregation's YouTube Page.
