Margaret (Marge) Naze

Margaret (Marge) Naze, 92, passed away in the love and comfort of her home, fulfilling her hearts’ desire on Saturday, May 24, 2025. “Thank you, Jesus” were her last words spoken. Marge was born on October 24, 1932, in New London, WI to the late Tony and Vera (Haack) Bultman. The family first moved to Kewaunee, WI next to Casco (Hillside Palace) and lastly to Algoma, purchasing a home including a bar (Cherrio Bar) later known as Bultman’s Bar. Apple and cherry orchards were added to create the “famous” Bultman’s Bar and Orchard. In later years Marge’s heart was thrilled when brother Tony purchased the orchards. Morning coffee with Tony was a highlight. Marge began her elementary schooling at Pleasant Hill School within walking distance west on the highway. Her younger sister, Jeanne, insisted on going to school with her at the same time and did! They graduated together 12 years later from Algoma High School, class of 1950. After graduation, Marge began working in her uncle Harold Haacks’ office in Madison and later returned to Algoma to accept an office job at the newly built Algoma Memorial Hospital, along with a former classmate, Mary Lou Knudson (Dettman). Marge married the late Robert Naze, Sr. in 1952 and continued working at the hospital until the birth of her first child, Brian, in 1953. Over the next five years, five girls were born, followed by the birth of a son, Robert Naze, Jr., which included a big “yippee” from Brian for finally having a brother. Kevin was the last born of the eight children. In 1967 when all the children were finally in school, Marge took over the bookkeeper position at the firm of Miller, Pies, and Blazkovec. She continued at the law office until accepting the bookkeeper position at Algoma High School, also serving as secretary to Jerry Thielke, school superintendent, until 1980. Ray Fulwiler hired Marge at Wisconsin Label Corporation in 1980, (later known as WS Packaging Group) where she worked in customer service until her retirement in 2008 after 28 years. Marge was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 236. For many years, she was often seen carrying the flag in parades or selling poppies for the legion’s fundraiser. She was honored on January 20, 2022, for 50 years of service (as of 2021) and remained a member totaling 54 years. As a member of St. Mary Church in Algoma, she belonged to the Rosary Society and for several years served on the finance committee. In addition, she tended bar at Bultman’s Bar and later at Hotel Stebbins. Marge was a long-time volunteer at the Algoma Visitor Center and continued as an active volunteer at the Kewaunee County Food Pantry for over 25 years until 2024. She was extremely passionate about spending time visiting residents at the Algoma nursing home and assisted living centers. She loved being with people, sharing her warmth, kindness, time, and genuine caring. Her constant thoughtfulness and unselfishness to everyone will be remembered always. Marge loved her road trips near and far to see her children and grandchildren (and great grandchildren visits); too many precious occasions celebrated with family to mention. Whether Marquette, MI; Pardeeville and Portage, WI; Ft Myers, FL; or New Richmond, WI; where the first four children lived or the last four children in Algoma and Casco, she was filled with joy at each gathering. All celebrations and get-togethers near or far were cherished beyond words. Special memories include Marge’s 50th and 70th birthday parties held in her honor. Oh, the love, laughter, and stories shared! For her 50th birthday party, Marge was given a set of luggage and her first plane ride ever! Accompanied by her daughter, Kris, with the destination Ft Myers, FL where Kay lives, they stayed with Kay, and Florida was never the same! What a celebration, which included a visit to Disney World. She traveled to Mexico with her daughter, Lisa, and traveled all over the USA and Spain with her brother, David. These special trips were talked about often and so very fondly remembered with big smiles, each and every trip was cherished. Her greatest blessings and joy were family. She loved them “all to pieces.” Marge will be missed beyond words and lovingly remembered by her eight children: Brian (Linda Purvis) Naze/Marquette MI; Kris Soderman/Sarasota FL; Kay Naze/Ft. Myers FL; Lisa Leahy/Hudson WI; Karen Naze/Algoma WI; Patti (Dave) Donart/Algoma WI; Robert Naze, Jr. (Pam Walter) Naze/Casco, WI; and Kevin Naze/Algoma WI. Fourteen grandchildren: Natalie Forester; Dustin (Brittany) Soderman; Summer (Austin) Rentsch; Ericka (Kyle) Rude; Sara (TJ Phillips) Leahy; Jenna (Justice) Harvieux; Rachael (David) Harnois; Kayla Donart; Casey (Chris) Rogers; Cassandra (fiancé Tyler) and Allison Naze; Karina (Alberto) Rodriguez Toro, Anthony (fiancé Emmy) Naze, and Nikki Naze. Thirteen great grandchildren: June Forester; Stella and Jameson Soderman; Morgan, Sydney, and Emilia Rude; Julian Leahy; Tate Harvieux; McKenna, Finn, and Liam Harnois; and Sundai and Kingston Vig. She is survived by sister, Jeanne DeDecker and brothers, David and Tony Bultman, Jr (Theresa); along with many, many dearly loved and precious nieces and nephews. Marge was proceeded in death by her parents, Tony and Vera Bultman; sisters Rosie Meyer and Cathy Antonissen; first-born grandson, Nathan Donart; in-laws Lee DeDecker, Carol Bultman, Dawn Bultman, John Meyer, Joe Antonissen, Fritz and Betty Naze, Marion (Naze) Thielke, and very special friends/neighbors Red and Edie Vandervest – known as the ”King and Queen of Ahnapee”. She was also proceeded in death by Xavior and Helen Naze and Robert Naze Sr., father of her eight children. Marge immensely treasured her special friends Pat Marquart, Audrey Tebon, Carol Nimmer, Kitty and Sara Fulwiler, Greta Blonairz, Dan and Marci Seiler, and many others; she loved spending time with all of them. For all the friends of Marge and friends of family members, Nancy Novotny and Joan Captain, AJ and Norma Bonnell, Larry and Mary Hyde, Tanda Lienau, Mary and Ned Noah, and Maggie Raymaker who often visited and brought delicious dinners and treats along with your sunshine, prayers, and precious time, we thank you. Jean J. (Koessl) Hill

Jean J. (Koessl) Hill passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer at her home in Sister Bay. She was a woman of faith who loved Jesus as her LORD and Savior and shared that same love with her family and friends. Jean was born in Sister Bay, the only child of Joseph and Alice (Nordeen) Koessl, on November 25, 1938. She attended Appleport School and graduated from Gibraltar High School in 1956. Upon graduation, she attended Bethel College finishing her teaching degree at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. At Bethel, she met her future husband, Lyle R. Hill. They were married June 18, 1960 at First Baptist Church in Sister Bay, and shared 44 wonderful years together. Much time was spent traveling in the U.S. and to Israel and Monaco to visit family. Lyle and Jean spent a few years in Michigan as teachers and then returned to Door County where Lyle taught school in Sturgeon Bay. Jean spent several years raising her family before getting back into teaching by co-founding Peninsula Day Nursery. She later became the Director at Northern Door Children’s Center where she expressed and shared her great love for children. In the summer months, Jean and Lyle ran and further developed the family orchard. This place held a great fondness in Jean's heart as it was where she grew up and was also where she and Lyle raised their three children: Beth, Jody and Randy. Together, the family shared a camaraderie of working together through the seasons to include tree planting, pruning and harvest. In the Autumn, Lyle and Jean often traveled with loads of apples to Michigan and sold fruit at roadside stands and farmer's markets. In 1980, they joined together with four other couples starting Northern Door Cherry Corporation and ran it together until 2004. Jean loved every season and all aspects of the cherry orchard. She worked tirelessly during the harvest with whatever needed to be done. Her hospitality always shined but especially during "cherry season" making sure that all were fed. She loved to cook and bake and would bring meals out to the orchard crew. She combined her love of cooking with her love for cherries and apples by developing recipes and publishing two cookbooks, "Cherries Galore" and "Apples Everything" with her daughter Jody. This project led to many good memories in creating, tasting and making recipes in the kitchen where Jean spent so much of her time. She froze and canned many kinds of fruit to be able to share with others year around. Jean was active in missions and created many long-lasting friendships with missionaries. She worked with the Door County internationals program, BRIDGES, and again, provided international students a "home away from home". She had a real love for young people from here and around the world. She lived her life for the LORD as an example to others with her life summarized by Ephesians 2:8-9 - "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." Surviving family includes her children, Beth Hill of Los Angeles, CA, Jody (Jerry) Littler of Sister Bay, Randy (Heather) Hill of Bonduel; two grandchildren, Jakob and Jana; “adopted” aunt, Lois Seaquist of Sister Bay. Preceding her in death was her husband, Lyle in 2004; her parents; and “adopted” aunt and uncles , Shirley (Dave) Maltby, and David Seaquist. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2025 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Mark Billington officiating. Burial will be at Little Sister Cemetery beside her husband. Friends may call at the church Thursday evening, May 29, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Jean's memory to First Baptist Church for missions or Bridges Ministry (2622 S Bayshore Dr, Sister Bay WI 54234); or WRVM Radio station (PO Box 212, Suring WI 54174). There, he met fellow Elementary School teacher Susan Lindholm who taught just across the hall from him. They were united in marriage on June 19, 1965 at South Side Swedish Club in Chicago, IL. Jack followed his passion for art, and switched to teaching art for the Crystal lake School District. He was a member of the Crystal Lake Teachers Association. Jack retired from teaching in the late 1970's. Jack and Sue opened an Art Gallery in the lower level of a building on the ferry dock in Gills Rock, in northern Door County, WI, in 1971. Timothy D. Herlache

Timothy Donald Herlache, 66, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, passed away on May 14th, 2025, at home surrounded by family, after a bravely-fought battle with cancer. Tim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, and will be missed dearly. Tim was born on November 14th, 1958, in Sturgeon Bay, WI, to Donald and Audrey Herlache, the third of six children. Tim began his schooling at East Maplewood School in Southern Door, before the family moved to Sturgeon Bay. There, he attended Corpus Christi grade school, and then graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1977. He attended NWTC the following year, where he earned a degree in small engine and chassis repair. While in high school, Tim met his future wife, Holly Ullman, and they were married in 1982. Although their marriage ended, they remained friends and great parents to their two children, Dustin and Jessica. Throughout his high school years, Tim helped his father Don by commercially fishing on the ice in the waters of Green Bay. Tim also worked at his father's shop, Herlache Small Engine. Tim loved the work at the shop, but after taking a new part-time job, realized he had found another passion: firefighting. Tim’s professional career at the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department began in 1979. He climbed the ranks and would later attend the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland, and went on to become Fire Chief in 2003. Tim loved his career in firefighting. While deeply dedicated to the professional aspects of his job and keeping his crews safe, Tim also took great joy in investing in the youth of Sturgeon Bay through various outreach programs. There was always a smile on his face when kids (especially his own) would visit the fire station, or get to climb on the fire trucks, or get to hear the firemen do a presentation at their school. He was also heavily involved in guiding the new city building and fire headquarters when it was constructed in downtown Sturgeon Bay. Tim retired in 2016 after 37 years of service. After “retirement” Tim refused to slow down, working at Ace Hardware in Sturgeon Bay, which he thoroughly enjoyed, as well as various other odd jobs. Then Tim met a beautiful woman named Dawn Thiry. Right from the start, it was clear that they complimented each other perfectly, and thus their love story began. They were married on July 22, 2022, and together they enjoyed spending time outdoors, socializing, traveling, and visiting each other's families. Anyone who knew Tim would tell you that if you needed anything, he really would give you the shirt off his back. If anyone ever had a question, he was the man to call. Tim's hobbies were helping others, deer hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with friends and family. His absolute favorite time of year was the Wisconsin gun deer season, but any time he could be out holding a fishing pole was a close second. He did it all: ice fishing, fishing in Canada, fishing locally for perch, walleyes, or whitefish, and in recent years, fishing with his grandkids at “The 60.” Another notable mention would be Tim's lifelong love for the property left to him and his siblings by his parents, "The 60" in the town of Gardner (Southern Door). Tim devoted much of his life to bettering the property by planting trees, managing the forest, and even improving a pond and stocking it with fish. Tim loved to hunt and camp here, and he truly made it a great place where family and friends could hunt, fish, camp, ride ATV's, and even dig for "treasure" from days gone by. The property would not be what it is today without his efforts. Tim will be dearly missed by his wife, Dawn; his children, Dustin (Lauren) of Luxemburg, WI, and Jessica (Tim) Kenney of Pulaski, WI; nine grandchildren, Evelyn, Liam, Theodore, Finnian, Charlotte, and Declan Herlache; Kallah, Harper, and Timmy Kenney; his mother, Audrey; his siblings Daniel (Susan) Herlache, Bill (Vikki) Herlache, Bonnie (Daniel) Bauer, and Dave (Carrie) Herlache; many other nieces, nephews, and friends. Tim was preceded in death by his father, Donald, and an older sister, Faye. A funeral service will be held at the Forbes Funeral Home on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 8:00 pm. A visitation is scheduled from 3:30 that day until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Door CAN Inc. or the Sturgeon Bay Fire and Police Honor Guard. A special thanks to Dr. Hogan, Dr. Jaz, and the team at Froedert, who gave us all the gift of extra time with Tim. We are so grateful to the whole team at Unity Hospice, especially Katie and Laura, for taking such good care of Tim at the end of his life.

Steven Papacosta

Steven F. Papacosta February 23, 1961 — January 28, 2025 Steven Francis Papacosta, 63, of Green Bay, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, surrounded by his siblings. Steve was born to the late Gust and Rosemary Papacosta on February 23rd, 1961, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Steve had a tough life, but he had no regrets, and he never complained about his circumstances and health - he got the most out of it that he could. But life didn’t start out that way. He was a Steph Curry in grade school -siblings, friends, and cousins were always impressed with his acrobatic basketball shots. After a knee issue prevented him from playing after grade school he excelled in academics and became a high school Valedictorian. Steve immersed himself in music (huge Beatles and Bob Dylan fan) owning many harmonicas and guitars in his lifetime. He was appointed to the Naval Academy and graduated as a math major from Lawrence University. But during the years after college his schizophrenia and the voices that came with it were just too strong – even for him to control. He needed a heavy dose of medication each day to keep the voices at bay – but he hated the dulling effect on his thinking. So the next twenty years he tried to reduce his medication on his own; however, each time he thought he found the right balance the voices would keep coming back. It was a struggle for him every day. During his last twenty plus years he had come to accept his medical condition and made the best life possible. During those years he admittingly smoked too much, but if anyone deserved a vice it was him. On many weekends he would come over for lunch or dinner to watch Packers, Brewers, and Bucks games with family. He always enjoyed choosing the meal, hearing the latest about his nieces’ and nephew’s lives, and coaching Alex and Nick in math at the dining room table if someone needed a patient math tutor. But the most memorable times were just simply driving back and forth from family and listening to old and new music and listening to his musical insights. He was mentally sharp all of the way up to his death. There were many times Steve was the phone-a-friend to answer any family details from our times growing up. We would just put the phone on the middle of the table with the speaker on and he would just answer all the questions as if he was sitting next to us in the room with family members. Steve is survived by his brothers, Andrew, Gregory (Tracy) and sister Mary (Tom) Delay; nieces Alexandria Papacosta and Britney (Devon) Johnson; and nephew Nicholas Papacosta. To honor Steve’s memory, a service will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sturgeon Bay, on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. There will be a gathering at Stone Harbor Resort, Sturgeon Bay, for family and friends to continue the celebration. Anyone is welcome to join. Steve would want to thank Unity Hospice and the nursing staff at the Jack and Engrid Meng Hospice Residence for the wonderful care and compassion provided to him and his family. “I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way, I promise to go under it” (Bob Dylan, Mr. Tambourine Man).

Then, they welcomed their second son, Jerry. In 1985, Carol and Gerald moved to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Carol and Gerald enjoyed following their sons’ school activities – especially sports and Jerry’s football games at Lakeland College. They were also avid Packer and Badger fans. Carol worked for the Jellystone Campground franchise office in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, for over 20 years. Carol also worked part-time at the Door County Treasurer’s Office, as an election poll worker, helped children in the Head Start program, and for Don Wiggins Architecture. Carol and Gerald loved to travel, attending the Superbowl, Rose Bowl, Kentucky Derby. They enjoyed extensive travel to points of interest in the U.S.A., many enjoyable vacations in Mexico and the Caribbean Islands, and a great European tour. Carol accompanied her brother Bill and his wife Betty to France to attend the beautiful wedding ceremony of her niece, Kathy. During these travels, their business careers, as well as their everyday lives, Carol and Gerald met many interesting people and made many friends. These friends Carol considered her treasures. Carol always loved to sing. This was a trait she inherited from her mother and dad. She sang in the choirs of Holy Trinity (Casco), Holy Name of Mary (Maplewood), Saints Peter and Paul (Institute), and occasionally for holidays, special events, etc., at Saint Joseph’s (Sturgeon Bay). Her choir family was very special to her. Carol’s greatest treasure was her family. Though small in number, it was huge in love. The Gerald Wagner family always celebrated events and holidays together. What special memories those are. The special love Carol and Gerald had for each other was evident in the way they lovingly cared for each other as old age presented its difficulties. We thank God for the gifts He gave us. Carol is survived by two sons, Tom (Tammy) and Jerry (Tracy) Wagner, two grandchildren, Chris Wagner and Carrie (Cody) DeClark, three great-grandchildren, Joslyn, Johana and Liam DeClark; sister-in-law Sally Wagner, nieces, nephews, and grand dog Briscal. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Gerald on Feb. 6, 2025, her parents, father and mother-in-law Edward and Louise (Schmelzer) Wagner, brother Bill (Betty) Brozek, sister-in-law Jean (Eldor) Eggert, and brother-in-law William Wagner. The family would like to extend thanks to the office of Dr Tomasz Michalski and his staff (particularly nurse Laura) for the outstanding support given Carol and Gerald through the years. To our “extended family” at Pine Crest Village who cared for them with compassion. To the “angels on earth” from Unity Hospice who helped us all through these difficult months. And the members of the church choir at SS Peter and Paul who became such a huge part of her life. Funeral services will be conducted at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute at 11:00 am Thursday on May 15, 2025. Burial will be in Forestville Town Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:30 am until the time of mass. Forbes Funeral Home is serving the family.
